      DAMN RIGHT! Even though, the song is referring to the emotionally powerful saga of our very own Sophocles "Oidepus the tyran" (It is well known already, that Jim was a lover of ancient Greece, and that his grave bears an ancient Greek motto - Rummors have it, that his father, the admiral, was indeed, by origin, a Greek guy, himself) nevertheless, it fits perfectly into this movie, and it's atmosphere, and ethics! Eh...and in the bottom line....since everything one way or another, always rotates around our country (Greece), Vietnam would not be any different, anyway! Ho Chi Minh, faught in Greece as a junior leutenant, within the Anamite colonial corp, of the French army, during the first world war ... one of the highest decoraded heroes of north Vietnam (...and personal friend to both Ho as well as to general Giap himself, was the Greek Vietminh Mr. Sarantidis, whom I personally know! He faught during the French Indochina war) and even Copolla himself, is of mixed Greek / Italian origins (...words from his own mouth, in the Greek television, back in the mid to late 1990s)! Therefore....yes...why not? "The end" suits perfectly in this great movie, which yes.... I agree too, that it's THE VERY BEST, of all the Vietnam war movies, to date! Greetings and much love from Greece....

    • @theonemesis5217
      @theonemesis5217 2 года назад +2

      Yes, even though it would be even more appropriate, if this song would be attached in a movie about the ancient Greek tragic mythological figure of Oedipus, because that what this song is all about, and not about the war in Vietnam! And I'm sure that good old Jim would have loved that alternative even more, as he adored our country (...Greece) a lot! And yet....Jim and Francis ford Coppola, were both of partial Greek origin ( .... Copolla admited so, in an old interview in the Greek Tv)! Additionally (... and in order to involve Vietnam into all these, as well) lets inform others out there, that in fact, Ho Chi Minh, did serve within Ahamite troops, in Greece, during W.W.I, as a junior transport's officer, and he was posteed at the Town of EDESSA, in northern Greece (... outsie the city of Salonica)! Therefore...in an odd twist... this "Greek retrospect" did made it's circle (...in conjuction, with this old mastepiece) after all!

    Coppola made this epic song immortal. This is an eulogy to the Vietnam, Sixties, Flower Power movement, hippie-era, madness of politicians and president troughout the whole war, experiments with human minds and souls, trough LSD tripps and pot, and the horrors of all sensless wars of that time. Horrific and beauteful, at the same time.

    It really is eerie how well that song matches up with the movie. Even the Oedipal interlude of the song works perfectly for the killing of father-figure Kurtz, by a son-like protégée.

    It's a pity the scene at the French compound was completely cut from theatrical release. The French colonials give the US soldiers a bit of a history lesson of how the conflict started and how the US got involved... It seems that wasn't interesting enough for audiences... It's been restored in the Redux version.

      also Coppola himself said it shows how the further down the river they go the further back in time they go , til they get to Kurtz's heart of darkness if you will , which is completely primal , like a pre modern society itself in the jungle , comepletely instinctual base level humanity. Coppola really is a genius

    One of the great films of all time. What a terrible shame that Coppola released two later versions that put back in a load of rubbish that he originally edited out. He was right first time - the original release is by far the best.

      IMO most of the add ons to Apocalypse Now really bog the film down, for me sometimes less is more, the only extra bits of footage that really works IMO are the scenes where Kurtz is reading an excerpt from Time magazine to Willard about the Vietnam War and it concludes with Kurtz sardonically quoting it saying “Victory is in the air.” And he asks Willard who is caged up like an animal, “Can you smell the odor of victory soldier?” and also the scene where Willard asks Colby what he feels when he kills someone and his answer is “Recoil, I feel recoil when I pull the trigger.”
      And also there is the deleted Monkey Saipan scene which IMHO really should have been restored to the film far more so than the French Plantation scene or Willard stealing Kilgore’s surfboard.
