- BEAT (King Crimson) The Sheltering Sky • 2024-10-06 • Live at Keswick Theatre, Glenside, PA
Former King Crimson members Adrian Belew and Tony Levin band together with guitar virtuoso Steve Vai and explosive Tool drummer Danny Carey for the first time to create BEAT, a creative reinterpretation of the three iconic 80s King Crimson albums - Discipline, Beat, and Three Of A Perfect Pair.
Holy moses. I've heard Robert play this, and in a couple of weeks I'll hear these guys, if I don't die of anticipation first. This ain't no tribute band, kids.
DUDE! it was an experience of a lifetime ... I saw them in Anaheim a few weeks back (absolutely magical)
No s***! This is the real deal!
So happy for Adrian. You can tell from his expression how much this means to him. They truly have something magical going on here.
he needs to be proud of himnself
so much talent
during the solo he just doesn't make any sound, leaving all the place to Steve, few are capable of that
Absolutly agree 👊👊
Pure genius magic…Utterly amazing.
How lucky are we? I mean, really - to have this experience in life. Thanks to Adrian, Tony, Steve, and Danny (and Robert, of course) for willing this into existence.
....and Bill too
Steve's work here was brilliant. He definitely did his own thing, but also paid beautiful tribute to Robert Fripp in playing his role.
He threaded the almost impossible needle of being faithful to the original yet adding his own magic.
AMAZING!! Vai takes Fripp to new levels of beauty. Cannot wait for the inevitable BEAT concert Blu-ray.
Saw this show last night in Greensburg, PA. Steve Vai was born to play this song, and took it to a whole new level. His musicianship is unfathomable.
Whoever shot this video did a beautiful job. The sound and the camara angles are gorgeous.
agreed!!
My only complaint is that the videographer was focused totally on everyone but Tony while he was absolutely KILLING it on that Chapman Stick!
@@MattKrogmeier Fair point. Sadly, that happens a lot.
Kudos to whoever filmed this. You clearly brought your good camera to the show because the video and sound are excellent.
It’s good to see that Steve Vai has not only embraced the music, he’s made it his own. What a performance!
Thanks for sharing your Film 🎥 footage. Watching from Detroit Michigan USA 🥁🎼🎶 🪘🎶🎵
Steve Vai improves the Legacy FAR BEYOND my expectations. BRAVO.
And he's 64 years old!? Just wow!
@@jerseymetalmike5111 An living example of patience and dedication to a skill, when you're one with your skill you can accomplish anything and also inspire.. I Hope that Steve Vai & Beat can record some shows live for an LP+Bluray, and create new music.. that would be a Dream.
this blew the audience away last night in Cincinnati
Always so fun to watch how happy Belew is when he performs.
So many videos for Beat concert. I think this is the best sound. So clear.
I was there and the show was spectacular. This rendition of The Sheltering Sky was the highlight for me. Just perfect.
At 9:47 watching Adrian digging the audience digging Steve. Priceless. I've got 2nd row seats for the show coming up this Saturday. i'll be right between the two of them.
This song has already changed so much since the beginning of the tour
Yes x100. Saw it in Charlotte and grown men were in near tears - seriously.
This is GREAT! I really like this version of a band. Steve Vai went into it above and beyond. Everyone, in the pocket. Audience needs to stfu at the end.
This amazing band! What a fantastic version of this song, one of the best of that era. Also the band is honing the show and it's flowing really well.
I was there, absolutely awesome show. Going to see them again in Reading, can't wait. Steve Vai is amazing 😊!!! Second rows the best!!!
lucky you are, two times
WOW!!!! When I heard Via was playing, I thought there might be a "too many cooks" feeling - but now I see he's PeRfeKt! Geneouse move Adrian!!
I couldn't have dreamed of a better balance of respect for the original band with the injection of a nice burst of new energy from the brilliant mind and hands of Frank Zappa's master of "impossible guitar parts", and "Strat abuse"! This is a sublime performance of a hypnotic masterpiece!
Hammer, Steve. Magickkkkk ! ! !
Adrian, EUROPE IS WAITING ! ! !
Es hermoso, como la improbable y luego mesiánica reunión de un paraguas y una máquina de coser en una mesa de disección 🎸🎶
KC fans knows how to listen, silently, what a pleasure
I saw the Dallas show!! They “Belew” us away!!
:p
Impresionante. Steve Vai se va ganado cada vez mas el lugar que ocupa en la banda.
I’ve been watching videos of the tour from the beginning and they just keep getting better. I wish I would have been able to tickets to both of the Chicago area shows, but glad that I get to see it live once.
Damn, Steve.
I saw the Original Disciple tour back in the day. It was life changing.
This is an Interesting take.
Wow wow wow. I have seen KC 3 times all in Boston and all in the '80s. The audio and video are excellent. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for posting this performance! I was there and I can honestly say that Vai's solo was possibly the most intense guitar work that I have ever seen. A masterful performance and an incredible show.
I was at the Beacon the previous night. Vai was a "two-headed monster"! Sometimes he played (and embellished!) Robert's parts. Other times he ripped off solos that I had previously would have sworn that no one but Adrian could have played. The whole band was just astounding.
I was there and thought the same thing. Vai was never better. And this song was the highlight for me that night.
Heard this in Charlotte, then turned to my wife and said "THIS is why Vai is here. No one else besides Fripp could do this. Belew is a genius!"
Fantastic as usual. I'm happy for the whole band to do this, Steve Vai, and Danny Carey. The fact that all of them endeavored on this very busy tour is so welcome, I never would have expected it until it showed up on my show list of what's coming. I'll be there in San Jose for the 2nd time at the Civic. Thanks to Adrian and Tony especially, I was at the Greek in Berkeley in '82 and '84.
Very beautiful / elevated live version. They were definitely on for that one.
Adrian Belew the máster of masters.
stupendously good live music!
Well earned standing ovation! ❤
Sublime
I'm going to see them in Nashville in a couple of weeks. Can't wait
Great sound quality. I can hear every detail.
Brilliant.
AMAZING !!! ❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥I will be there in Montreal Oct 17th 2024 !!!🤩🥰😍🤩🥰
The interesting thing to me has always been how much Tony Levin's stick weaves so much in and out of the "guitar lines." I saw him live twice with Peter Gabriel in the early 80s. He was in high form on that complicated instrument. It's so hybrid that you sometimes think it's the other two guys even though he is tapping bass and higher notes. This show is introducing this unique project to a new generation. It was revolutionary back then.
I pla the instrument, called the chapman stick. There are some out there who make him look pretty pedestrian on it, in a few ways. But of course musicality always wins. Hard to find a better front row of strings than these guys, all working together.
Tony was amazing on the secret world tour with Peter G… one of the best shows I’ve ever seen.
Thank you for sharing the video, for us who can’t be there. The experience must just have been fantastic.
I never understood people who would go to a concert to scream through the entire thing
Amazing work gentlemen!
Thanks for sharing this
Robert Fripp Approved 🎸🎼🎶🎤 🎸🎶🎵 🎸🎶🎵🎸🎶🎵 🥁
Thanx for posting this! Going to see them on October 17 in Montreal, I can hardly wait!!!
ab for the win
good job boys
incredible
Hope they release live recordings
Wow!
I dreamed along with from the second row
Oh man, I wish they brought this to the UK/Europe... but I suppose the alternative is we guys get Bill Bruford on tour instead
Steve Vai is so goddamn good in King Crimson!
got VIP-asses for Monday in Halifax..............Novas Cotia if you didn't know.
I have only developed an ear to appreciate this later in life so I'm glad that Adrian was inclined to make it available with a new crop of 'kids' as talented as they are. All in gest but as an ear player of guitar a lot of the interplay sounds random at times. But I certainly appreciate the skill and disscipline. Anything you want me to ask?
Wow! I think this is better than the original and better than the Fréjus live version. The extra time gives the whole theme more room to breath unrushed, and Steve's solo is both true to the intention as well as stretching into new territory. Wonderful.
Seattle in November.
Givingthanks!
I'll be there too with my sons!
two Zappas and two warriors honoring Fripp, it is sublime.
Saw them on the 6th STEVIE KILLED IT and ADRIEN at HIS FINEST!!!!!
Adrian Belew to Robert Fripp: Say, do you want to reunite King Crimson again?
Robert Fripp to Adrian Belew: No, but get Steve Vai, Tony Levin and Danny Carey and call it something else.
Adrian Belew: You got it! (cue magic).
I call it krimson, mostly to get Narberth fraggs goat. But partly cause 'tis.
❤❤❤
ho f*ck how good steve has gone now on it !
I saw them in Clearwater. It was probably one of the most enjoyable shows I've ever seen. When Belew starts making Outer Space sounds about five minutes into this song, every hair on my body stood on end. And then Vai starts making out of this world sounds a couple of minutes later. All the while Levin and Carey never waiver. Just incredible.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Indianapolis and Louisville shows coming up for me
Rush fan here. I was at the hampton beach casino show. BEAT( IN MY EYES KING CRIMSON) was amazing on stage. Listening and seeing Red is like listening and seeing first two parts of 2112 live. This version of crimson is better than rush musically but rush will always be better lyrically. Rip Neil Peart we miss your intellect and way of thinking.
There most likely won’t be any blu ray release as every show has/is being filmed and uploaded so just the cost of making a DVD is not worth it as only a very small percentage of people buy any concert DVD’s anymore..don’t get me wrong..I saw this show and LOVED IT and appreciate the uploads as well as being able to see my fave artists from the past to now on my iPad..it’s the trade off of the digital revolution
Drums sound like reflection
Wow. Not that it needs to be mentioned, the amazing work by Danny Carey. Great performance all around though. Wow. Amazing.
Yes, Carey's work was simply hypnotic.
Kinda figured it'd be a good show.
Wonder how Tony Levin feels now that he has his own awesome King Crimson tribute band.
If you have 50% of the original band, plus Vai and Carey, it AIN'T NO "tribute band"!
Its like the never heard a sustainer pickup before.
Finally Vai is doing something useful with his great talent...
If Steve can reprise great Genesis music so can Tony with the KC classics.
I think Jeff Beck would have enjoyed that.
Who is Bobert Fridge?
Sure, great. But can they do it with drums, bass and two banjos? I'd pay to see that!
🌠WHAT THE COMMENT BEFORE ME SAID...AMAZING
phewey...decent
Big fan for decades of this tune, Sad that i started to get a little bored by this version after 5 mins ,,,,,and then Vai let rip. Oh Man, Wow!!!!
I hear this is the only song they played. ....
I like this new Krimson band and hope they keep Krimsoning. Even without Norbert Fragg.
Or bull bifferd.
never understood why people talk all the way thru a music show... makes zero sense...
No work on a TOOL album for this garbage, lol.
Now I know why I never bought a Crimson album, sodding noise.
Good for you. Do you now feel seen?
Hey, cool your jets and I'll stay off your grass.🤪
Steve Vai at his Best
