I actually watched Star Wars in chronological order first bc I didn't know/remember that Episode I was made AFTER Episode VI, and therefore I fell in love with Star Wars WITH The Phantom Menace. I could never understand the hate the prequels got. Yeah they are not perfect but they are better than many people give them credit for, and I still hold them near and dear to my heart and love them.
Episode 1 through 6 plus the clone wars is easily one of the best stories ever told. I couldn’t imagine myself skipping any of them. I could never understand why some people think prequels are detrimental to the OT. The fact that they made Anakin’s sacrifice so much more tragic and meaningful justifies their existence
Andrew Lambert I heard someone talk about how his acting, seeming bad at times, fitted his character, who had been through so much and was confused and felt out of place in the Jedi or whatever, he comes across as cold, but I see where your coming from
@Andrew Lambert In AOTC Hayden didn't perform very well, paired with those awful lines. However in ROTS I think he did a great job, and I think he redeemed himself in that movie. And to be fair I can't really imagine any other actor play Anakin.
His whole acting was one of the many reasons the prequels failed he just didn't portray anakin the way he should've his acting was terrible and he deserves what people say he did a bad job and ruined the back story of darth vader Even the clone wars anakin was way better
@@Kingdecca George Lucas said he portrayed him perfectly. It's just that people don't like the character. They say he's whiny, of course he is frustrated with no real outlet. They say he isn't what they pictured, well if they remember Darth Vader was always meant to be viewed as pathetic under the mask ever since ROTJ. If these people and you stopped for one second to consider his circumstances you would realise he portrayed him very well. Very precisely.
He did though. They never really went deep on exactly how palpatine is alive again. I've only seen it once but didn't he say something like he's died before? Anakin did fulfil the prophecy as far as I'm concerned
Jessikah Thurmond Hayden Christensen was a fine role for Anakin. The true failure was how George Lucas wanted to portray Anakin that was the problem. He was always complaining and being arrogant when Anakin is so much more than that
The first two movies dont even focus on anakins turn to the dark side. Then the last movie wanted anakin to look good but its supposed to be the movie that shows him becoming darth vader. Along with bad writing lifeless dialouge and incoherent plot, it doesnt matter that the prequels have original ideas. I hate the prequels.
I think people hate the prequels because they had too many nostalgic memories with the original triology, but kids born during 1997-2005 hold a lot of nostalgic value for the prequels and prefer those movies over the original triology
I have always thought of Star Wars this way, wich is why I love episode III so much. I even typed an essay about how Anakin's story is a Greek tragedy with him being the tragic hero. Thanks for the vid dude now I can tell people I'm not the only one who thinks like this :)
@@aminoor6257 its his opinion bro. U like it (i guess) i like it (except ep.1 it was kind of slow and boring just my opinion) he didn't like it end of story.
Except for the dying in childbirth part. Its like George Lucas forgot that it was said in the original trilogy that she died when Leia was a small girl........
Huge fan of the prequels. However, I did not watch any Star Wars until after the prequels were made. Revenge of the Sith is my favorite Star Wars film.
Revenge of the Sith is the best star wars movie. and the empire strikes back is not the best movie ever made. the best movies are made by wes anderson, such as The Grand Budapest Hotel, or Isle of Dogs.
@@fundhund62 Objectively, the original and the prequel tell different stories, and both are equally good. A lot of the prequel haters are just nostalgic, for me, I saw the prequels when I was 10, and I'm still fascinated by the world building and the characters. The prequels tell the story of the fall of a republic, the decay of its institutions, and how one of the greatest villains in cinematic history manages to rise to power by manipulating all parties. The scope is just bigger than the original, the prequels are a gigantic expansion to the entire universe, and they introduced Star Wars to an entire new generation.
@@moviegeekman1666 Return of the King men ! I mean, I love Star Wars and Endgame was correct but seriously... A better climax than that is impossible ! Episode 3 has still a very good climax, but the best... No. And Endgame climax is good, but because the Russo brothers aren't very good directors, the film lost himself in the battle and you just don't understand what you are seeing.
Revenge of the sith is my favorite star wars movie. It shows the downfall of a great man. We see why he becomes the way he is. It adds emotion to Darth Vader
As a 20 year old who grew up on the prequels I can tell you that alot of my generation looks at the prequels and clone wars like the original trilogy and Episode 3 is like our Empire Strikes back. I never understood the hate for the prequels or even the actors, I think if the romance wasnt a main part and the lovey dovey bs was shortened it would've been adored alot more
@@bigboifatboy5993 Most people who grew up with the prequels prefer it. Most people who grew up with the original trilogy prefer them. We are all influenced by nostalgia...
The Clone Wars really show how great of a job George did on setting up a truly epic world full of heroes and villains and political intrigue. If only his dialogue in the movie had been better maybe more people would be looking back fondly on the prequels now. And if Padme's death hadn't been so lame. =/
Personally I love the prequels, and none of the actors should've been harassed like they were, no one deserves that just for a role in a movie. And granted while the attack of the clones' romance scenes were a bit jarring at times, yes, but nonetheless I still love the film
@@bauer0788 Honestly, what the sequel actors got was kind of tame compared to what the prequel actors got. Not saying ANY of it was every deserved, but the effect on them was clearly worse in the prequel era
@@watchforever1724 It isn't just a "lol". What happened to the sequel actors, in most cases, was not even comparable. None of them had their lives marked. None of them (at least yet) have changed careers. None of them were minors, either. If you ask me, the fandom has only gotten less toxic over the years. More people are realizing and calling out the terrible behavior. There are is a simple reason why everybody is saying the fans are getting more toxic: The media THEMSELVES took part in the bullying when it came to the prequel era. Now, they just disagree with the other side, so they paint them as "toxic" while ignoring their own, and arguably MORE TOXIC actions.
@@colonelstarsandstripes5379 It's my opinion so don't bash me please, but the prequels were a planned out trilogy and thought through. The sequel trilogy wasn't really planned and was made up as the trilogy progressed. The force awakens is in my opinion the best sequel film. The last jedi ruins lore and TROS is rushed.
@Sir Handel I grew up with both (Ep1 came out when I was ten), and the prequels are objectively terrible movies. How do I fit into yours and @Elite Fishy's brilliant theory?
I actually really liked the prequel movies as a kid. I would get up every morning to watch the phantom menace on dvd. I can't really think why I liked it so much as a kid, But It really helped me appreaciate the original trilogy and started my adoration for the series. People always say how bad the prequels were but I think if it weren't for the prequel movies. Fewer Kids today would enjoy star wars
I was in 4th grade when Phantom Menace came out. I was so disinterested in it, that I didn't see episodes 2 or 3 until I was nearly done with high school. And even then I only went out of my way to watch them because I was home sick from school. I didn't truly become a Star Wars fan until 2015.
Litterally everyone loves revenge of the sith. Edit: I made this comment to prove to a friend that star wars fans hate each other more than anything. Comments proved me right, argument started right away lmao.
@@MMMatth Every character is a idiot. Anakin's turn is utterly confusing, Padme is insufferable. Fight scenes go on for too long, Bad Dialogue, bad acting, General Grevious isn't really a character, the whole film is basically always a blue screen, and Palpatine's plan is also really dumb.
I love how much new lore and world building the prequel trilogy brought to the table. I always point out that the OT took place out in the ass end of space, while the PT showed you a much larger galaxy.
Loved your perspective of the prequels. The comparisons to actual history and mythology were quite entertaining. I already saw the similarities between Palpatine and Hitler and the Roman Empire/Republic but you gave a much more in depth analysis of the whole thing. ROTS is my favorite film of all time and I love the prequels. They actually have a way more thought out and detailed story than the originals.
@@monke1599 Well, what about the Wookies of the first trilogy? Or Jabba the Hutt and his obnoxious minions? I think that as Jar Jar appears very little is not as annoying as the first trilogy minor villains and filler characters (Wich are really annoying XD)
Some of those are extremely petty and superficial complaints signifying small mind oppressed with irrelevant minutia. Really if you are companying abut quality of camera you are scarping rock bottom of frivolous shallow bitching. Other complaints are on anther hand ridiculously false. Main characters of Anakin and OB1 had massive arks and character development, pacing is actually excellent, i would complain only that some combat scenes get a bit to long on multiple viewings, but otherwise rest of the moves are paced exactly as needed to establish the setting, characters and circumstances they are in. It is your problem you suffer form ADD and cant' concentrate on anything for a significant time. And Jar Jar Binks is one of the greatest and most original villains ever created in history of cinema, it is only that most viewers are to stupid to perceive his actual nature.
"If you wanna keep being condescending and insulting you can count me out of the conversation." Never counted you in as you had nothing to comment on other then frivolous superficial trivialities.
You explained this PERFECTLY. Can’t believe I’m stumbling upon this now. A huge mistake of the sequels is they pretty much ignored these films. Aside from episode 9s.... “villain” 🤦🏾♂️
Watch Mr Plinketts review, he goes over why. I don't think it'll make you hate them if you live them. I like plenty a bad movie with potholes, nothing wrong with that.
@@annnee6818 There's a reason why Mr. Plinkett/RLM's reviews aren't looked at very lightly by the prequel fanbase. Let me make this clear. Let me be as mature as I could POSSIBLY be. *I don’t “hate” RedLetterMedia.* As content creators, I respect them. I haven’t watched their videos on the Prequels (I refuse to), but I have heard enough about them to know that they are informative and educational videos that tell us why the Prequels don’t work on a filmmaking level. I can agree with that slightly. I’m willing to admit that dialogue scales from asinine to mediocre, the editing feels claustrophobic and less concise than the originals, and characterization (while not bad in my opinion) drives the plot to ludicrous points that could have been resolved much better. I could spend an entire day taking apart Attack of the Clones piece by piece and show you why it doesn’t work with any basic narrative theory. RLM ultimately did the one thing that everyone in the fanbase had wanted: reach a verdict. Before 2009, perception of the prequels was EXTREMELY divided, and it was unclear which side had the better point. RLM took all the negative complaints and made sense of them; they compiled all that hate into one video (with a length that I approve of, btw) and were able to filter it through a rational, fair, and funny standpoint. So, in that sense, hats off to you, Stoklasa. But…I can’t forgive the fanbase that RLM fostered. If you’re reading this and are apart of this fanbase, that’s fine. I don’t mean to insult you individually. But I’m taking issue with the fanbase you contribute to, and being a bystander to this carnage is absolutely despicable. So let’s begin. RLM is known to make tons of insults in their videos, which is equally balanced with a really well thought out analysis. But the way they use those words is different to the fans' use. Where Stoklasa is being funny, the fans are being serious. See, allow me to break down why RLM’s use of those insults works on a mass-appeal level. There’s another RUclips Critic that I enjoy. His name is JobbyTheHong, and he is an immensely talented…toy reviewer. His style is incredibly similar to RLM on a surface level. Jobby’s style of comedy usually involves self-deprecation humor and antagonizing his audience, which would normally seem offensive and rude. But Jobby’s style also has him wearing a malformed Batman mask and a thin undershirt, complete with a shaggy-haircut and exposed boxers (he also has the creepiest grin if he’s trying). He’s presenting himself as a low-life who hates what he does, and he uses that with exaggerated editing to essentially say that his opinion is probably different than ours. He’s encouraging a sense of disbelief that encourages us to take what he says with a grain of salt. When RLM makes similar antagonizing jokes, he’s trying to showcase how much of a low-life he is and how his opinion isn’t the defining arbiter of all things movies, but that style doesn’t detract from the points he’s making. But the problem with that style is that it also encourages hatred or a general sense of stupidity. Coming back to JobbyTheHong, Mr. Hong had created a running gag in his videos…the Swivel Gag. As a toy reviewer, obviously Jobby has to complete the basic convention of the articulation test, where the reviewer fiddles around with the toy and tests the strength of joints and how poseable the figure can be. When he does those segments, he likes to emphasize when joints “swivel” by aggressively rotating the joint in question. It was a funny gag that emphasized how Jobby was fetishizing something so small and nonsensical that highlighted his low-life status. But the joke, once meant to only be a joke, began getting out of hand. Fans of the channel began to shitpost the “Swivel Here” gag all over related channels to the point where Jobby himself had to take responsibility for his fans’ stupidity. Eventually, Jobby had to abandon the joke altogether…the joke that he felt defined his sense of humor and the joke that he poured so much effort into…reduced to an embarrassment. It’s the next of kin to the Pickle Rick and Szechuan Sauce craze that occurred with the release of Rick and Morty Season 3; fans started going apeshit over something so simple and stupid that they began using it as a means of harassment. RLM’s fanbase is no exception. Good, valuable, and insightful points of constructive and satirical criticism amounted to people insulting and offending each other over subjective opinions individual to the viewer, as if RLM’s points were meant to be taken seriously. And while they certainly were, those watchers ultimately missed out on that grain of salt that RLM gave us. But the difference between RLM and Jobby? RLM hasn’t taken responsibility for the fanbase’s aggression! They’ve only encouraged it! That’s not acceptable, Stoklasa! You’re one of THE faces of online movie critics, possibly the only credible one since the Nostalgia Critic was proven to be an asshole, so why are you sitting by and letting people harass each other ENDLESSLY? And the way this has impacted other RUclipsrs is increasingly disturbing. Spoony’s quote of saying the Prequels haven’t been bashed enough is only a microcosm of this toxic environment that RLM had a hand in creating. Linkara’s response to a vocal prequel lover named Kurvos is proof that prequel hate isn’t as trendy as RLM had once made it out to be and is actually quite serious. For the latter argument, I bring up a case where TGWTG commenter "Kurvos" was told to die for liking the prequels, and when he defended himself, the site’s creators said he was bluffing! Granted, I have heard things about Kurvos and that he was a…bit of a drama queen, no offense, but if someone was saying he should die for having a different opinion, IT SHOULDN’T BE TAKEN LIGHTLY. Linkara’s response is the worst of them all, honestly. He talks about how Kurvos should “grow some nuts and deal with it” and completely denies that someone told him that he should kill himself for liking these movies. I can’t believe this…one of my idols, one of my inspirations fell to the hate in Star Wars and ended up saying something COMPLETELY OUT OF LINE. Can you imagine if Linkara had said this to *Ahmed Best?!* The Ahmed Best that nearly took his own life because of the intense hatred for a character that, quite frankly, pioneered motion capture before Andy Serkis could take it by the rains, and was played by Best with such an indiscernible passion?! You might as well go make fun of the fact that Jake Lloyd suffered several emotional breakdowns and was recently admitted into a psychiatric ward because of the intense bullying he was dealt! But no. Keep dishing out the insults. Jake Lloyd and Ahmed Best should ‘be burned at the stake’, ’they haven’t been bashed enough’, and people don’t tell you to die for them except when they do. Why? ‘Because it’s the Star Wars Prequel Trilogy. We can make fun of them as much as we want because RLM backs us up. After all, it’s not like the crew of these movies are actual people, right? And if they are, it’s only the internet and people aren’t harmed by the internet, right?’ *THIS!* This is why I refuse to even touch RLM’s work. This hatred may be the handiwork of the fanbase, and Stoklasa is more than probably innocent in all this, but when a toy reviewer has more professionalism than you and your friends, there’s seriously a problem. It's why I refuse to watch his content. I don't want to fall to the hate others have fallen to. So! RLM, if you’re reading this, thanks for being insightful critics. I may not agree with you about the Prequels, but you boiled down opinions into facts; facts that as a prequel fan, I can accept. But please be MORE than insightful critics. Be inspirers, be role-models that make smart and genuinely funny parodies…instead of living in your own parody or the fans’ parody of your parody. But to the group of RLM’s fans that have weaponized their videos, I have no sympathy for you.
Plinkett's review is bullshit. I'm working on a rebuttal and reaction to those smears to show why they are. Now with that said the Prequels are flawed imperfect films.
@@JuicyTobacco Thank you :) that took a really long time to write. What's also really funny is that I’ve heard many negative things about RLM’s take on the Sequel Trilogy, with seasoned fans saying that the videos are bad, unfunny, and just not as well made as the first three. I can only imagine what those fans think: *"this new set of Plinkett reviews is just annoying to sit through because it is so lame and so half-assed after three amazing works which I enjoyed so much (even if the third one wasn't quite as good as the first two)."* Oh…the irony.
14:32- Luke and Anakin parallel each other in how they deal with truth, Anakin comes to accept the lie that he's irredeemable and that the tyrannical Empire is the best option for peace in the galaxy while Luke initially believes the lie that the Jedi are perfect and that his father died an incorruptible force of good to later accept the gray truth and is able to redeem Vader/Anakin due to this.
It’s funny, because I was born in a time between the sequels and prequels, so I grew up with the original 6 and always loved them and considered them all a group of 6, even though I know that they’re separate
I also grew up with all 6 of the Films. Episodes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6. They all play a huge part of my childhood and I never understood why the Prequels were hated, I don't think they are as objectively good as the Originals, but I personally still think they're good movies. George Lucas' has never been great with dialogue and that's really one of the only issues that the Prequels have, saying that I've seen videos that defend lucas' "wooden" dialogue if you so call it. The whole point of the Prequels objective was to build upon the lore and foundation of the Originals which they did perfectly, they were supposed to show the traumatic and difficult life of Anakin and how he was manipulated, not trusted and ultimately turned to the Dark Side. We got see the cool galactic conflict of the Clone Wars. The political aspects of them were always interesting to me, even now as a young adult I find myself actually sucked into it more. The hate Hayden got for his portrayal was undeserved, you see him in Attack of The Clones as an immature Teenager who has been told to not feel emotion who of course is very emotional and doesn't understand and hates why the Jedi are supposed to be emotional, his whole creepy vibe with Padme is precisely because he has no idea how to talk to women because he's been raised to be this monotone person who seeks no emotion even though he very much does. When his Mother dies, you can see the sadness, rage and hatred boiling through him, a feeling that only people who have losed loved ones will understand. He begins to blame Obi-Wan and himself and he starts to think and mentally believe he can become the greatest Jedi ever to save loves ones from death. In Episode 3 we see him as a mentally struggling Young Adult, at this point in the timeline he's already lost Ahsoka, a padawan which was wrongfully expelled from the order by the Jedi Council that didn't trust her, like the Council didn't trust him. I understand this is CW Lore and it built upon Anakin but I personally believe it's one of the many things that justified his turn. Here we see Anakin seek's Palpatine's comfort as he always had, Palpatine the only person that truly believes in him and he manipulates his feelings as he can sense them. All the dreams he had of his Mother, he now has as about Padme. He knows he can see things before they happen so he begins to panic, he doesn't want to lose the love of his life so in doing so he snaps, he begins to realize how the Jedi are responsible for a lot of bad things which they were. So when Palpatine tells him there's a way to save his wife from certain death, he listens, he ends up turning to the Dark Side. He completely snaps and doesn't care if the Jedi were Men, Women or Children. The most heartbreaking thing was towards the end when he eventually is suited up as Vader, who Palpatine tells him in his anger he killed her which was a lie and ultimately the last glimmer of hope he had. The love for Padme is what turned him to the Dark Side, now he sees he has nothing left so he spends 20 years under Palpatine as he is the only thing he has left until he realizes he has a Son and a Daughter. His feelings of love return after 20 years now for his son and when he see's Palpatine killing his Son in Episode 6, whom at this point he already realized he was technically indirectly responsible for Killing Padme who had powerful feelings for. He makes the right choice and furfills the prophecy of the Chosen One. This is what Star Wars was all about, all 6 of those movies was about the Tragic fall and Redemption of Anakin. Luke was the cataclyst for Anakin furfillign the Prophecy, he was The BALANCE because he wiped out the Jedi and THE SITH. Lucas in my eyes was a genius when you think about the story he crafted. Star Wars was never just about lazer swords and politics and space battles, he said it himself, it's a space opera. It was about Family, the Skywalker family. Anakin, Padme, Luke, Leia, Shmi. Something Disney didnt really take on well, something Disney through down the drain completely ignoring the point of Star Wars. Making Palpatine Return, making Anakin's redemption in Episode 6 completely pointless.
Revenge of the sith is 10000000000 times better than the force awakens, heck Force awakens and last jedi make Phantom menace and attack of the clones look like perfect masterpieces. the disney trilogy should never have happened, unlike the prqeuels they aren't naturally occurring, they were contrived as a business strategy to make more money out of the franchise, thats why they are so poor, there is literally no creativity, originality and realism in them, they are fake movies, the real star wars are episodes 1-6 both clone wars series, rogue one and rebels, but force awakens and last jedi did not happen, they are terrible fanfictions.
+Hyperrunner You could've made episodes 7-8-9 following Lucas' outline for the trilogy. Unfortunately Disney fucked him off and Kathlyn Kennedy is shit at choosing directors. One is a cockless coward with no imagination and the other, a pedantic bootlicking smartass who things subversion equals content.
I recently rewatched all 3 of the prequels this week and I have to say I really enjoyed them. I had not seen Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones for about 10 years and since I was a kid back then, I thought I was going to hate rewatching them now I'm older but I was pleasantly surprised. Jar Jar didn't really bother me that much (I used to find him hilarious as a kid) and I could look past a lot of the cheesy dialogue. So yeah, I still love the prequels :)
@@manz7860 me too. Anakin risking his life to help strangers. Jake Lloyd portrays Anakin's purity and innocent like no other could. I really enjoyed his acting.
A Self-fulfilling prophecy in a tragic character study where the protagonist is gradually undone by subtle manipulation, appealing to his own desires akin to Shakespeare's greats, Othello and Macbeth, amongst the backdrop of a corrupt Senate and Jedi Order riddled with tension creating mystery after mystery riddled with espionage as you witness an elaborate chess game unfold, watching the pieces fall where you already know they end up resulting in the outbreak of an epic space war. The music, cinematography, aesthetics and action alone could sell this trilogy never mind the mythology, lore, story, complexity, depth, characters, relationships and overall brilliance. Nuff Said
@Darth Vader I personally think stories are what matters. Unlike the sequel's witch even saying they have a bad story is an insult because you can't even call those movies stories. They are that bad.
Visual One Studio Idk man... i think it’s just due to the execution George gave that made people not see the secret brilliance behind the Prequels at first.
If it wasn’t for Star Wars and similar series pushing so hard with CGI, we likely wouldn’t have the advanced CGI we have today. Besides, no special effects age well. Certainly not Lucas’ fault. He was ahead of his time
the PT cgi hating is pretty much the same for all movies with CGI. people hate cgi. but not me. i think CGI works in PT coz it showed more planets. unlike the OT and ST (except cloud city) which feels like it was made on earth planet.
Episode 3 has more practical sets and effects than the entire original trilogy combined. These movies has way more practical sets and effects than people think.
I love that Prequel defenders constantly have to make clear that their defence of those deeply terrible movies are just their opinion, because they cannot actually put a good defence of them. One would have to be very stupid not to realize that if you say something and it comes from you, it's your opinion, you don't have to tell me in every sentence, people. The fact is that people only like the Prequels because of nostalgia.
Mutiny Is The Best Map Ever The prequels aren’t terrible though, but they do have some terrible things in them. Return of the Jedi was kind of flawed too bro.
@Mutiny Is The Best Map Ever I love how you say prequel defenders can’t put up a good defense of them while prequels haters have invalid reasons for why the prequels suck
And yes, prequels were great. They get us great world of the Republic and Jedi, told the arc of Anakin Skywalker which gets more sense to OT. And they did the univerce more serious and mature. Of course, the epic star battles and saber fights...If you don't like it because of stupid reasons (Jar Jar, midichlorians, love dialogues), it is such your problem. Without George would be no Star Wars.
When I first saw the Prequel films, I loved them. As I got older, I did recognise their problems, but because of their redeeming qualities, I cannot hate them. I was invested in the narrative. I was keen to see how Anakin Skywalker turned into Darth Vader. The Prequels helped to expand the lore of Star Wars, and I am happy with that. I was born in the 90s. I've been a fan since I was 2 or 3 years old. The first star wars I ever saw was probably Episode IV Special Edition on VHS. There is a lot I love about Star Wars, but there is a lot to talk about.
This is really good Morgan :D Very well thought out and interesting. I enjoyed the prequels, especially Revenge of the Sith. If I ever finish my Darth Vader video I'll put a link to this in the description...remind me if I forget :)
@@maffy715 Qui-Gon's influence had a huge impact on Yoda and Obi-Wan even Luke, you can see it with Qui-Gon's "Keep your focus here and now where it belongs" to Obi-Wan foreshadowing by Yoda to Luke that he isn't grounded in the present in ESB
Yes many people are very jaded and Jar Jar didn't help his character is too foolish. I believe Darth Jar Jar could have been a thing at the start, Or he was meant to be the new 3PO but 3PO humor is not slap stick.
No, it's the other way around. The Prequels are terribly written, incompetently directed, blandly shot and have acting that is awkward and mechanistic. People like them do it because of nostalgia, not the other way around.
LeXyZ ROTS is just as bad as the other two prequels and the the expanded universe and Disney canon the original and sequel are the only good Star Wars movies
Anakin is my favorite character in star Wars, For a multitude of reasons. Not only do I find that I can relate to him, but the one famous line of Yoda is basically Anakin in general. When he was a little boy as a slave on tatooine, he was afraid, filled with fear. He showed great anger to the sand people when they killed his mother, and hate towards obi wan in their battle on mustafar. And as Vader, he was always suffering. Always
Kyle Phantom the sequel trilogy is a rehash of the same status quo as the original trilogy. I would just want a movie series with functioning jedi order. I mean we could do multiple jedi knights or a functioning jedi order, and that's what I am interested in at this point. Or just play the now discarded video games.
I thought the prequels were great - they really tied the story together and showed how Anakin became Vader in mostly elegant fashion (and the prequels got progressively better). I like the originals as well but they are a bit dated. RoS may save the sequels but so far I've not been as impressed.
I disagree as the phantom menace is not about Anakin and is completely unnecessary and boring except for duel of the fates while attack of the clones anakin is already evil but revenge of the sith is good
Pumpy//RonaldRump_ I was sorry for Qui-gon. Oh and don’t forget John Williams! The prequels have wonderful tracks meanwhile the sequels give nearly no tunes you can remember.
No Yoda’s quote “hate leads to suffering” it means internal suffering the people you hate don’t care that you hate them it’s a suffering within yourself. And Anakin’s hate did cause his own internal suffering.
I think the entire line was "fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering". His fear of death for his loved ones is the reason for his suffering. Just a thought. :)
Blair Waldorf-Bass But it actually went both ways: Anakin’s hate toward the sand people after what happened to his mother led to them suffering (physically) as well as him (internally)
This was awesomely done. I like explanations and movie clips as examples of well said thoughts and definitions. even music in background, theories, and abstract seeing on these series. For lots of them i haven't thought about. I would like to hear about any movie that could have some explanations as good as this one. Respect!
Thank gawd for this video, finally a sane review that it organizes everything I try to tell people. Are these movies perfect naw but there definitely not shit like everyone else says. The good out weighs the bad. I've always noticed the deeper themes but most people only noticed JarJar for 3 movies even though he's only really in episode 1 for like 15min.
Thank you for this video! It expresses exactly what I feel when I see the Prequel Trilogy. And the six movies are together a VERY GOOD STORY... And a COMPLETE one! I don't need Disney's Star Wars to enjoy Lucas' vision. For me, the story ends with Episode VI (but I can still enjoy other SW supplementary stories, as Clone Wars and Rogue One).
I think people get too hung up on their disdain of Jar Jar and all the CGI in the prequels to actually give them a chance. I watched each of the prequels in the theater upon release and enjoyed each one. This is in spite of Jar Jar Binks, a very cheesy though necessary love story, and the over use of CGI. The story telling was and is incredible.
Daum son that's exactly what I thought of Anakin as well...! That he in a way was the Star Wars version of Lucifer! Some kind of very powerful yet arrogant individual that eventually gets consumed by his power and will to dominate, falling into darkness, getting ''cast out'' and turned into Satan/Darth Vader!
I must say you're wrong. The Prequels are good and a part of Star wars. And yes Episode 3 is lit and also episode 2 is very good. Episode 1 ist just horrible. I'm annoyed during the whole damn movie.
I think the original trilogy are superior films, in terms of technicality as well as storytelling. Though I still like the prequels, as much as they are flawed.
Oh yeah people argue that palpatine coming back negates Anakin's sacrifice, that's not true Anakin DID bring balance to the force it just wouldn't be permanent a new conflict would always arise
@@ryanbarth6691 😆 Rey, having never held a lightsaber, beat Kylo in Force Awakens. She must be a goddess or something. Now she somehow has force-healing ability out of nowhere and easily kills the most powerful Sith ever with his own lightning. Palpatine could have easily stopped shooting lightning to not kill himself. In Revenge of the Sith he intentionally lost to Mace Windu in order to influence Anakin to turn to the Dark Side. 🙄 JJ Abrams then craps all over George's creation by having a Palpatine take the Skywalker name.
Oh and fun fact: When Palpatine learned that Anakin was the chosen one he was utterly surprised because he hadn’t sensed any force potential in the boy when they first met
The prequels are good movies, anyone who says that they are terrible, clearly hasn't seen too many terrible movies. The reason the prequels get shit on so much is because the original trilogy is a great set of movies, so anything less than that drives some star wars fans crazy and makes them focus on all the negatives, instead of enjoying the positives. It's the same thing with the hobbit good movies but not as great as lord of the rings. The thing that pisses me off the most is when other people tell you there not good and tell you your an idiot if you think that. If a kid things the prequels are better, then people shouldn't put a negative spin on it, just to get them to change there mind. My favourite film is a New Hope and i didn't choose that as my favourite because someone told me the prequels were crap. I think it's good to talk about the pros and cons of a movie, but at the end of the day when all thats said and done, you just have to watch the movie and enjoy it for what it is. You can't keep sitting around focusing on the negative and wishing things were different. You either accept and enjoy or you just don't watch them again.
David Cunningham I remember before the prequels came out watching a program about the problems with the original trilogy. What is interesting is that a lot of the issues people critics had was similar to the criticism of the prequels. Bad acting, bad dialogue, and bad editing. In fact, there was a scene in Return of the Jedi where you clearly see Han Solo kneeling off to the side waiting for the other characters to finish their dialogue. I believe that they edited that out for the special editions. I always think of it when people mention how great the original series was. Then there is the Ewoks, I remember adults complaining about them as much as people complained about Jar Jar Binks.
Phantom menace and Attack of the clones are fucking boring And have not needed politics and trading bullshit with terrible directing and way too many plotholes Anakin and Padme talking about how they love eachother for a third of the FUCKING movie Most of the villains are bland and one dimensional I mean tell me one line you remember from darth maul If they fixed these out of the many many problems with this trilogy it could be really good
I frickn love the Star Wars Prequels heck I love all films even TFA. They all deal with shades of grey at moments but it is the ups that make SW very unique and amazing. I wish the SW fan wasn't so divided. *The Saga Code* The is no Prequel, nor Original There is only the Saga There are positives and negatives but it is the positives that make them all unique. There is Success, yet Imperfection There is Poetry, yet Originality There are Possibilities, yet Restrictions There is Imagination, yet Limitations There is Nostalgia, yet Progression I'am the one who sees value within every story. I'am the one who embraces the flaws with open arms. I understand the connection from tale to tale. I'am the lover of One Story broken into All Episodes I'am a Saga Fan.
Nice writing but what you failed to realize is that 7,8,9 will never be part of the saga. They are entertaining at best and that is all. The Actual Saga is about Anakin's life and that is all.

I’ve always loved the prequels. TPM and AOTC had issues but are still good-ok and fun to watch. ROTS is just a plain down right good film. The hate they get is from people who expected the world from George and when the end result didn’t please then they acted like they were the worst things ever.
what many people dont understand about the darkside is that there always is a reason for a character falling to the darkside for palpatine he fell out of a want to help grow and bring everyone together which ultimate became a want for power for anikin it came about as a want to protect and thus to gain more power to protect for ren it came about out of want to be like his grandfather if you notice the joining line in all three of these is the word want
@Jeremy Brown "Oppressed" what an overstatement. I think you are completely forgetting what it was like to be a prequel fan prior to 2017. Stop acting like people ran over your dog for liking some corporate movies.
@Jeremy Brown It's also pretty frustrating when sequel fans say that disliking their movies makes us "fake fans" and believe, I see crap like these each day. The toxicity is off the rails.
Facts, I see a lot of shit towards prequel fans, which I am, and even more so for the sequel fans. I really really don’t like the sequel trilogy but to bully and try to argue someone out of their preference in movies is childish.

You know what? At some point, the whoever owns Star Wars is just gonna have to do what Studio Sunrise did with Gundam and just start making stories that have new timelines and continuities. That way we can have new conflicts that don't make the triumphs at the end of previous films and stories feel pointless or negate the sacrifices of certain characters (cough-Anakin-killing-the-emperor-cough).
One thing that people hate about the prequels is the “assholery” of the Jedi Council, but that’s literally the whole point. This story was about the Jedi’s fall. If you want to see their glory age you look at the high republic comics.
@Zac Irvin I remember watching the prequels and liking them. When I was a child. And I had no taste and would pour a mountain of sugar in my breakfast cereal or a mountain of ketchup on my burger if I could get away with it. Is it nostalgia, collective amnesia or idiocy that’s causing these folks to all come out in support of movies that were widely derided in their time and have not aged well?
jcmauzé I think it’s hindsight, Since the new trilogy is debatably worse. The prequels are only bad because the writing was awful. Otherwise they (now) aren’t so bad
I think story wise the prequels are better then the OT. Dialogue wise not as much. Still good movies tho.

Agreed. ☺💜
@Andrew Lambert In AOTC Hayden didn't perform very well, paired with those awful lines. However in ROTS I think he did a great job, and I think he redeemed himself in that movie. And to be fair I can't really imagine any other actor play Anakin.
His whole acting was one of the many reasons the prequels failed he just didn't portray anakin the way he should've his acting was terrible and he deserves what people say he did a bad job and ruined the back story of darth vader
Even the clone wars anakin was way better
@@Kingdecca George Lucas said he portrayed him perfectly. It's just that people don't like the character. They say he's whiny, of course he is frustrated with no real outlet.
DilPikle 24 kinda does, in episode 2, he killed all of those sand troopers

@@fundhund62 Objectively, the original and the prequel tell different stories, and both are equally good. A lot of the prequel haters are just nostalgic, for me, I saw the prequels when I was 10, and I'm still fascinated by the world building and the characters. The prequels tell the story of the fall of a republic, the decay of its institutions, and how one of the greatest villains in cinematic history manages to rise to power by manipulating all parties. The scope is just bigger than the original, the prequels are a gigantic expansion to the entire universe, and they introduced Star Wars to an entire new generation.

Prequels are far to sophisticated and complex to be understand and appreciated by typical viewer.
And Jar Jar Binks is one of the greatest and most original villains ever created in history of cinema, it is only that most viewers are to stupid to perceive his actual nature.

dude, I saw the title and I was like YES! I think the prequels are really good, and idk why people hate them. xD
And if they are, it’s only the internet and people aren’t harmed by the internet, right?’
*THIS!* This is why I refuse to even touch RLM’s work.
Thank you so much
@@JuicyTobacco Thank you :) that took a really long time to write.
What's also really funny is that I’ve heard many negative things about RLM’s take on the Sequel Trilogy, with seasoned fans saying that the videos are bad, unfunny, and just not as well made as the first three. I can only imagine what those fans think: *"this new set of Plinkett reviews is just annoying to sit through because it is so lame and so half-assed after three amazing works which I enjoyed so much (even if the third one wasn't quite as good as the first two)."*
Oh…the irony.
Yeah I know
I also grew up with all 6 of the Films.
Wtf the prequel Movies are epic! The revenge of the Sith is my favorite star wars Movie, it is a lot better than the force awakens.
Jelte Mikkelsen No it's not
Jelte Mikkelsen I most definitely agree.
Well the entire sequels are just rehashing the same status quo as the original trilogy, and with even more lame characters.
The Prequels were the first Star Wars films I ever saw in theaters and I`m not ashamed of that fact.
i saw the OT in 1977 starting at age 10
I watched the Prequels in theaters in 1998 starting at age 32
I love The prequels
I recently rewatched all 3 of the prequels this week and I have to say I really enjoyed them. I had not seen Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones for about 10 years and since I was a kid back then, I thought I was going to hate rewatching them now I'm older but I was pleasantly surprised.
Jar Jar didn't really bother me that much (I used to find him hilarious as a kid) and I could look past a lot of the cheesy dialogue. So yeah, I still love the prequels :)
Same with me
The ending of the pod race scene almost always has me in tears and I can't quite place why.
@@manz7860 me too. Anakin risking his life to help strangers. Jake Lloyd portrays Anakin's purity and innocent like no other could. I really enjoyed his acting.

@@anduinWrynn980 Hes talking about the stupid sequel trilogy...
Nuff Said

True that love scenes and drama was a bit too long, but the battles were incredible.
Well me too. Though maybe the acting? Some of the scenes doesn’t feel natural.
TPM and AOTC are great stories told a little incompetently. Fortunately RTS is absolutely amazing
yeah the prequels and great vision and ideas but poor dialougue with a little it of dry characters
@Mustiboi Salman yep
@Fidel RMZ same. No rational reason for it. I just love these movies
@Mustiboi Salman not really. Some poor dialogue but still over all good.
@Darth Vader I personally think stories are what matters. Unlike the sequel's witch even saying they have a bad story is an insult because you can't even call those movies stories. They are that bad.
I'm going to get a lot of hate but...
Revenge of the Sith is the best Star Wars film
Julian Pesantes true comment
Agreed
I actually agree the fight scenes were lit 👌
No hating here! You're absolutely right.
Julian Pesantes I fucking agree with you!!!
No wonder so many people didn’t like the prequels, they were to stupid to realize how brilliant they were. Great video! The prequels were my favorite.
Visual One Studio Idk man... i think it’s just due to the execution George gave that made people not see the secret brilliance behind the Prequels at first.
It’s a great story but meh trio of movies.
Brian N I really enjoyed them. I'm not a film critic here but they were highly enjoyable.
The originals told a tremendously compelling story, the prequels expanded it and the sequels burnt it all up. Period.
i loved the prequels so what he used a lot of cgi he was trying to show us the world he envisioned
I don't understand the problem with cgi. The story is great
If it wasn’t for Star Wars and similar series pushing so hard with CGI, we likely wouldn’t have the advanced CGI we have today.
Lucas also used A LOT of practicals
Episode 3 has more practical sets and effects than the entire original trilogy combined. These movies has way more practical sets and effects than people think.
I love the prequels more than the originals tbh. Just having Anakin in them makes them better, imo.
@Mutiny Is The Best Map Ever just like how prequel haters like you are blinded by nostalgia for the original trilogy
Original Trilogy: Amazing
Prequel Trilogy: Amazing
Sequel Trilogy: Horrid Mess

When I first saw the Prequel films, I loved them. As I got older, I did recognise their problems, but because of their redeeming qualities, I cannot hate them. I was invested in the narrative. I was keen to see how Anakin Skywalker turned into Darth Vader. The Prequels helped to expand the lore of Star Wars, and I am happy with that. I was born in the 90s. I've been a fan since I was 2 or 3 years old. The first star wars I ever saw was probably Episode IV Special Edition on VHS. There is a lot I love about Star Wars, but there is a lot to talk about.
after seeing last jedi the prequels are looking like movie masterpieces. my fav is revenge of the sith.

He would have been a better mentor for Anakin than Obi Wan was.
Indeed
He did know better. He was probably the closest to being a true Jedi in the Prequels
@Neo's danger he's what a Jedi is supposed to be
@@maffy715 Qui-Gon's influence had a huge impact on Yoda and Obi-Wan even Luke, you can see it with Qui-Gon's "Keep your focus here and now where it belongs" to Obi-Wan foreshadowing by Yoda to Luke that he isn't grounded in the present in ESB
The only reason people hate the prequels is because the older generations have a lot of nostalgia for the original thrilogy
Isn't that kinda with the sequels as well?
Yes many people are very jaded and Jar Jar didn't help his character is too foolish. I believe Darth Jar Jar could have been a thing at the start, Or he was meant to be the new 3PO but 3PO humor is not slap stick.
No, it's the other way around. The Prequels are terribly written, incompetently directed, blandly shot and have acting that is awkward and mechanistic. People like them do it because of nostalgia, not the other way around.

Always
I worship Revenge of the Sith
I despise Force Awakens

The sequel trilogy was unnecessary. In fact its ruining the franchise.
Kyle Phantom the sequel trilogy is a rehash of the same status quo as the original trilogy. I would just want a movie series with functioning jedi order.

Same here. Love the complete Saga on Blu-ray (I-VI), Rogue One and The Clone Wars.
I love all of the star wars especially revenge of the sith
Daum son that's exactly what I thought of Anakin as well...! That he in a way was the Star Wars version of Lucifer!

I love episode 1 - 6. Episode 7 - 9 are garbage. Rogue one is fantastic
@@darthmaul3226 7 isn't garbage it is not the worst but 8 and 9 are certainly garbage
Most people are talking about the first and second not the third, the third is a masterpiece
I love the prequels, Padme and Anakin's relationship was the best in the whole series in my opinion.
yes
Agreed.
@@fundhund62 the prequels are awesome
How is it the best 😂😂
@@lukedawson4872 for starters because The Prequels are awesome

the prequels make the OT way better

The definitive ranking of Star Wars movies:
1) Revenge of the Sith
2) Phantom Menace
3) Empire Strikes Back
4) Attack of the Clones
5) A New Hope
6) Return of the Jedi
7) drawing the Death Star on a post-it note
8) Solo & Rogue One
9) watching your 5 year old play with his toy lightsaber
10) pretending passing seagulls are TIE fighters
11) Force Awakens & Last Jedi
The Dom Bomb eh, I’d put the trash Jedi even lower. I mean spaceballs is a better Star Wars movie
@@minecraftmechanic1 yeah for sure. I'm not a fan of the new Star Wars films at all. However, even if they were good, nothing would top ROTS.
Revenge of the Sith easily is in my top 5 movies all time. That film is just Brilliant to me
You know what? At some point, the whoever owns Star Wars is just gonna have to do what Studio Sunrise did with Gundam and just start making stories that have new timelines and continuities. That way we can have new conflicts that don't make the triumphs at the end of previous films and stories feel pointless or negate the sacrifices of certain characters (cough-Anakin-killing-the-emperor-cough).
MFP: Won't end anytime soon
Epidode 9: Hold my beer
I love 1-6. Doesn't matter what the others say, TPM definitely is one of my all time favorite. Nostalgia. ❤️
One thing that people hate about the prequels is the “assholery” of the Jedi Council, but that’s literally the whole point. This story was about the Jedi’s fall. If you want to see their glory age you look at the high republic comics.
No one complains about the prequel’s philosophical world-building ideas, they complain about the embarrassing execution of it all.
EXACTLY. No one states the story isn’t a compelling one at its core. That’s not enough to make a movie good, a good idea.
