I'm from Brazil, and I think the preservation of this animal it is really important for the future of the biodiversity. The Tapirs are really gardeners! The florets need it. The others animals need it. We need it.
I believe that savings tapirs is very important, as is saving all animals, but I don't think the tapirs enjoy being captured to be studied. Also, I don't think that the tapirs particularly enjoy wearing those GPS collars. But, thanks for educating people, and I hope the conservation efforts are successful.
+🎵allfodatmusic🎵 Depends on why you have the animal in the zoo. Having animals in captivity can give very important information for conservation studies since it is way easier to study their behavior; specially breeding behavior.
🎵allfodatmusic🎵 Once again, depends on the zoo... I do agree there must be a lot of bad zoos out there; but proper zoos who do care and give the right conditions to their animals aren't evil. Zoos might actually be very important in conservation of certain animals, since it might raise awareness about certain species to the general public. Why do you think everyone loves the panda, and knows how bad they are in the wild; while basically no one knows that the tasmanian devil is nearly extinct?
Brian Hensley You compare a good zoo with a prison. That's a false equivalence. A prison implies that the one who's being imprisoned knows why he's being put in jail, and the consequences that brings to his life. Animals don't know they are being jailed, and they really don't care; as long as their physical and psychological well being are being cared for. Animals don't have any problems while in captivity; they have their diseases treated by specialists, they are well fed, they have enough room to do what they enjoy doing and are mentally stimulated (at least the species that need so). Of course I'm giving a example from a good zoo. This zoo can be compared more to a hotel than a prison. Animals don't care they lost their freedom, because they don't have the notion of what freedom means. You are anthropomorphizing animals too much. You are saying conservational scientists do this for the money...but do you even know how much they make? If they make enough to simply live by I would be impressed. These people dedicate their time 100% to their cause. Their work, is their life. You shouldn't feel bad that you have to kill things in order to survive. Dying is part of life; killing is part of life. Without any of these, no animal you know today would even be alive... Now suffering, that's the thing we need to avoid at most.
gps collars are essential to keep track of the numbers by conservationist and I do agree we do not know if it'll be comfortable for them, but hey we have the greatest minds out there working and improving on it,so i think it'll be okay
Fuerza patricia!
Patricia Medici's two-decade long work of safeguard Tapirs in the Amazon forests is commendable. We came to know, how these unknown mammals help to maintain the bio-diversity of our planet. We have to appreciate her work, her commitment and if possible, do some help for her to accomplish the mission.
Enjoyed the talk. I do not appreciate how the title treats us all as though we were ignorant. I knew of the tapir, not as much as she does, but nontheless I knew of it!
+Austin Johnson Thank you so much for your comment. Please visit www.tapirs.org for further information about tapirs. If you are on FB, please like our project's page: facebook.com/LTCIBrazil. Once again, thank you so much. All the best from Brazil, Patrícia Medici
This is so heartbreaking. I don’t know how a person wouldn’t give up on despair, because she’s absolutely right in her fear that she’s documenting their extinction.
I get you ...we are loosing Malayan Tapir every year ..they get hit by vehicles on the highway..I m dedicating my message to the society through my art and still am...we re having an art exhibition in April 2019. ..
Isn't the most effective solution for roads killing animals to build a natural, animal crossing landway that connects the two sides so all animals can cross safely all the time? I thought that was a widely accepted practice now for effective, roadkill minimization?
I'm all for preserving wildlife, but I don't really see how tapirs would even quality for top 100 coolest animals. There are lesser-known species that are far more fascinating.
The Blue Farmer Well the US does have one solution we can offer if you find oil in Brazil we can bomb over cities isn’t a complete extinction and simply take the oil and then leave the rain forest to regrow after all we won’t leave many people there’s always that option
As cool as Tapirs are, they are nowhere as cool as the Galapagos Pink Land Iguana, a reptile discovered in 2009 and still we only have very little information on them.
If we treat them like most of our pigs and keep them incarcerated and fatten them up and eat them then there are a lot of them and that's a good thing. Since the most important thing for an animal is that many other members of their species exist.
+ramanmono This one is the least endangered species of Tapir. It even thrives in cultivated areas as long as there is some cover to hide. This woman is just trying to get attention.
Those stickers on Tapirs... would those stickers be the answer? i think not. Maybe those stickers would increase the chance Tapirs be spotted by predators at night... Just saying.
they'll be extinct in the next decade. i always see videos like this trying to protect an animal from humans moving in. the fact is, humans ALWAYS move in. there's nothing you can do.
So I watched the whole video... and I may have missed it, but why did the woman say she was doing this? Do tapirs urine cure cancer and HIV at the same time? she did call them "cute". If she really want's to save this animal, I mean this legitly .. not as sarcasm, but maybe she should open up a tapir farm down in Brazil or where ever she wants.. buy a massive amount of land.. that wouldn't be used for agriculture, but is as close to the tapirs natural environment as possible.. and then just study and rear the animals till she's blue in the face. What she is doing.. is not wrong, but it may be fruitless. ... because like she said quote "I"m swimming against the tide".. she said people were eating the tapirs because they taste delicious.. "Poaching" ... so she should get into the business of farming, and selling cheap tapir meat... that would put her in a strong position to really do something about this problem as opposed to the angle shes tackling it from. And since Tapirs seem to be the 4x4 of the animal kingdom.. they don't need land cleared for them. Good luck whatever the case.
I'm from Brazil, and I think the preservation of this animal it is really important for the future of the biodiversity. The Tapirs are really gardeners! The florets need it. The others animals need it. We need it.
We in South East Asia, Malaysia need them too...we lost 50pcnt in 10 yrs due to road kill....I m an artist and I paints lots of Tapir issues....
This person is a soldier, fighting for the preservation of biodiversity on Earth - a cause for which we should all be fighting. Inspiring.

+Physics Videos by Eugene Khutoryansky Sure the tapirs dont like it, but its better to study and try to save them rather than let them go extinct

Thanks for this - shared on World Tapir Day and hope to see an updated version sometime soon too. Great talk and wonderful quirky creature.
I saw The Brazilian Tapir in the Zoo recently, they're beautiful creatures. Their important role in the eco-system is certainly irreplaceable.

I love the intention behind the stickers... but I feel like that will be an issue with other animals, and tapirs' ability to hide intentionally.
+Shawn Phelps Was my first thought as well
+Shawn Phelps I think it will not as these stickers only shine when light is cast on them. In the dark they don't shine at all.
Estava buscando inspiração para meu trabalho e pela quinta ou sexta vez, assisti esse video e me inspirei novamente!
Enjoyed the talk. I do not appreciate how the title treats us all as though we were ignorant. I knew of the tapir, not as much as she does, but nontheless I knew of it!
+Tibor Roussou "You know nothing 'ABOUT'" and if you ignored the search for more information on Tapirs you are literally ignorant(ingnore see?).
This could have been way longer this was a good speaker, i would like to know more about the way they live and eat and socialize. good work!

WAS THIS PORTIA'S MYSTERY ANIMAL?? 0:26
thewanderandhiscomp might have been :D
pfft Lady, we've all played FarCry. That makes us practically taperologists.
+Unauthorized Expression I was going to mention Far Cry as well.
Satchboy71
lol I wouldn't know what those things were without that game.
lol
i love you
beautiful talk and ending sentiments. love tapirs!
2001 A Space Odyssey was my first glimpse of it.
ErgoCogita same here! They're so weird and primitive and I looked it up straight away after the credits rolled.
I get you ...we are loosing Malayan Tapir every year ..they get hit by vehicles on the highway..I m dedicating my message to the society through my art and still am...we re having an art exhibition in April 2019. ..
Wow.. i didn't know such animals live in the Earth, but no that i see this video ,tapirs needs our help.
Isn't the most effective solution for roads killing animals to build a natural, animal crossing landway that connects the two sides so all animals can cross safely all the time? I thought that was a widely accepted practice now for effective, roadkill minimization?
It works for farms but not for roads, because you can't go around roads.
Eduardo Freitas go over the road make a bridge
The tapirs are rather interesting animals and it is really worth keeping them.
You are so inspiring...
I m with you Patricia ...I'm from Malaysia...
I am suddenly reminded of True Facts about the Tapir by Zefrank1.
Great speech. Thank you!
Can predators see reflection from the reflective tape?
Does she wake up in the morning, look into the mirror and think I am starting to look like a tapir?
I remember hearing somone that sounded like Morgan Freeman talk about this animal
+MassDynamic True Facts about the Tapir by Zefrank1. You're welcome.
+Gotislav Vasiljkovic yeah! that's him :)
I'm all for preserving wildlife, but I don't really see how tapirs would even quality for top 100 coolest animals. There are lesser-known species that are far more fascinating.
That's not a tapir, that is Seymour, a humble sands vendor.
She has good points but I didn't hear any solutions. Parks and reserves seem to be the only way to slow the destruction.
The Blue Farmer Well the US does have one solution we can offer if you find oil in Brazil we can bomb over cities isn’t a complete extinction and simply take the oil and then leave the rain forest to regrow after all we won’t leave many people there’s always that option
Beautiful
Tapir Was Here
Loads of people know about tapirs.
This title is a bit clickbaity.
What's a Tapir?
As cool as Tapirs are, they are nowhere as cool as the Galapagos Pink Land Iguana, a reptile discovered in 2009 and still we only have very little information on them.
If we treat them like most of our pigs and keep them incarcerated and fatten them up and eat them then there are a lot of them and that's a good thing. Since the most important thing for an animal is that many other members of their species exist.
+lovingboarding I urge you to read up on the criterias an animal must meet to be qualified for domestication
They wouldn't be existing in nature in their natural habitats which is where they're supposed to be.
simo Cora No, pigs aren't supposed to be in their natural habitats. They are supposed to produce meat. Nothing more.
lovingboarding and isn't that the saddest most evil thing one could do to a living creature?
redundant pundit Are you a vegetarian or what? What are pigs for other than providing meat?
We must respect the local culture, including their traditional food. The Indians eat tapirs forever and it never brought any ecological imbalance.
lol ?
0:25 meh. In terms of cuteness, both puppies/kittens > baby tapirs
Human Gardners are also becoming extinct, so people out there, make gardening as your hobby, grow your own food, protect animals and the environment.
Please make a video on Great Indian Bustard. Only 150 left in the world.
But the tapir is not endangered? It's open season all season on Tapirs in my Country?
+ramanmono This one is the least endangered species of Tapir. It even thrives in cultivated areas as long as there is some cover to hide. This woman is just trying to get attention.
wolves are endangered in north america and they are still hunted, people think certain animals are pests... so they kill them
Those stickers on Tapirs... would those stickers be the answer? i think not. Maybe those stickers would increase the chance Tapirs be spotted by predators at night...
Just saying.
if tapers wanted to survive so bad they wouldnt look so delicious.
+John K hahaah
I once saw a hentai starring Tapir... It was sugoi ^_^
+Ken Sama Fucking weeaboo.
Ken Sama Love it. LOVE IT. Senpai finally noticed me.
abdilahi jama On the contrary, extremeley necessary.

they'll be extinct in the next decade. i always see videos like this trying to protect an animal from humans moving in. the fact is, humans ALWAYS move in. there's nothing you can do.
Jesse Compton there are so many in captivity doing breeding programs I think they have a shot.
Jesse Compton Well there’s always starting nuclear war that’ll do it
So I watched the whole video... and I may have missed it, but why did the woman say she was doing this? Do tapirs urine cure cancer and HIV at the same time? she did call them "cute".

Good luck whatever the case.
MRSketch09 she said that they are very important to biome diversity
the solution clearly is to domesticate tapers and eat them! that way they will be common once again! and delicious
Why are they called Tapers? Cause their nose just tapers off like that...
They're not called tapers though. So...
