I wish Sebastian didn’t die. I was actually rooting for him towards the end. I feel like he realized how bad of a person he is and was finally ready to change.
What I am gutted about is, I just found out about this and the series never got picked up. I watched the Pilot and it is awesome, SMG playing Katherine lit up the whole screen. This would have differently been a hit. I wish I never found about the pilot as it sucks even more that this could have been a series. I do hope they revist this in the future, ifg SMG and Reese Withersppon come together, damn, this would be a hit series.
Latoya Collins it did but NBC couldn’t actually find a place to fit it into their schedule as much as they liked it. It was just so different from all of the other shows they had on the network. It was shopped around to other networks for a while but unfortunately they didn’t manage to have it picked up again

Then I heard the network dropped the show afraid it would be considered inappropriate because it would instantly be compared to the movie without giving it a chance. Edward Valmont did not want to give the reins to Pascal because he was afraid he would never get it back from Pascal freely. At the same time, he was afraid of firing Pascal because he thought that would either devastate Kathryn and/or would cause Kathryn to blackmail him. After all due the fact that Kathryn was Edward Valmont's step-daughter, she knew all his secrets. As Kathryn strongly implied, Edward knew Pascal would not be sympathetic to his cause and he knew he could not ever risk putting his empire in Pascal's name. Edward knew he would have to transfer his assets to someone he could trust to keep those assets and his position safe. He just did not know who until Kathryn met him at the Bay to make that proposition. Once he found out that Kathryn had no qualms in him getting rid of Pascal, he knew he would do that. When Kathryn told him he should place the company in Bash's name and that she would make arrangements to be Bash's guardian, Edward knew he had found a solution to his problems. He would feel safe knowing the company is in teen Bash's name and that Kathryn would run the company until his legal issues were resolved. He knew Kathryn had no "friends" in the Justice Department, unlike Pascal, and that she could never do anything to make his legal affairs worse. Kathryn knew that once Edward reassumed his reigns, he would keep her close to the "seat of power" so that she could finish what she and Sebastian had started as teenagers.

OH MY GOSH. Just watched the unaired pilot. This has alot of potential. If not for SMG reprising the roll it would not be Cruel Intentions. Hope this gets picked up sometime. Some networks need to cancel some bubble gum shows to get this going. again. Only negative is they used some tag lines and dialog from the original movie as well as sound track, to me this felt like they crammed too much into the pilot, to get a green light or should i say get that Cruel feeling from the original as the rest of cast members are ok. Other than that this could have been a really great show with alot of cliffhangers wanting more. Fingers crossed. For the fans always want what you cant have.
Problem with this pilot is ot was too “soapish”. I love Sarah, she was great as always, but we needed more tone like it was original not new Dinasty reboot. Let’s hope Sarah and cast will do another sequel or limited Tv series on HBO , Netflix

Kathryn in all likelihood did not as she really wanted Bash only to arrive a year or two later after she had implicated Pascal and gotten her husband out of the way as head of the Valmont Empire. Bash's arrival at that time perfectly suited Edward. He knew if Kathryn would agree to be Bash's sole financial guardian, he could resign from the company on a temporary basis without having to give Pascal the reins. Valmont simply did not trust Pascal as he thought Pascal may have had something to do with the filing of the criminal charges against him (Edward). However Edward did trust his step-daughter. He knew she would be sympathetic to his cause. Edward knew of Bash's existence the entire time. That is why he never filed a claim with the police about the 1956 Jaguar Roadster that Annette technically and actually stole from him. Edward knew Annette's abrupt departure from Manchester Prep to Kansas right after Sebastian's death could have only meant one thing. That one thing was that Annette was pregnant with his grandson. With all the drama going on in his home life, Edward thought it was best that Annette raise Bash. Edward knew Bash would be in good hands with Annette and Trevor, who Annette married soon after Bash's birth. However at Bash reached age 17 and with his legal issues, Edward knew he would have to act. He had someone cause the crucifix in Trevor's pickup to fall, killing Trevor in the process. Edward knew that would start a chain reaction that would land Bash in San Francisco. Edward knew he would have to get Kathryn on board. Edward suspected that Pascal was cheating on Kathryn with Carmen. Edward contacted Naomi, gave her a very generous campaign contribution, told her to allow Kathryn to build Kathryn's rehab center after the election, then told her as well that Pascal was cheating on Kathryn, invited her to Bash's welcoming party, told her to tell Kathryn in her own way that Pascal was cheating, and finally told Naomi to be co-operative with Kathryn when they both spoke. Edward wanted Kathryn through Naomi to know that he wanted Kathryn to be on his side. Kathryn would know that her dream project was only possible because Edward persuaded Naomi to allow that to happen. Edward knew all this would prompt Kathryn to help Edward by stating later to Edward that she would become Bash's financial guardian. Edward knew that Naomi had incriminating evidence against both Edward and Pascal. He knew he could get her to testify against Pascal but he would have to remove himself from the Valmont Empire so that he does not take the fall with Pascal. His campaign contribution may have bought Naomi's silence but he knows Pascal would have a full reign if he was allowed by Edward to take over the reins. That means Pascal would block Edward from ever rejoining the company. Edward knew this so he wanted to arrange Kathryn to leave Pascal and then take over the Valmont Empire as Bash's financial guardian. Fortunately for him, Kathryn saw the same things and she acted accordingly as she had the same plans. Edward was also afraid that Annette would not allow Kathryn to serve as legal guardian of Bash but Kathryn realized it was not necessary for Kathryn to be full legal guardian in order to become full financial guardian. Still Edward wanted Annette out of the way as he had threatened her at the party. To make a long story short, it was Edward and no one else who prompted and enticed Bash to leave Kansas for San Francisco.
Edward acted coy and ignorant in the presence of Kathryn, Pascal, and everyone else about his knowledge of Bash. He took a mouth sample from Bash and even had DNA results conducted just to show to everyone that he had no pre-existing knowledge of Bash. Why was he so accepting of Bash right after he had shown Bash the DNA results? It was because he had known that Bash was his grandson for 17 years and certainly not within the same day those DNA results were revealed.

Cruel Intentions is based on Dangerous Liaisons. In Dangerous Liaisons, the Witherspoon character dies from heartbreak.
