Welcome to the Hobb Emotional Support Group. This was sooo much fun to watch! I only have the Fitz and Fool Trilogy left. The intensity, the emotional gut wrenching character dynamics hurts so good. Prepare yourself it’s going to be a wild, tragically beautiful ride. I’m here for it! Great video Andrew!

Having read all of Hobbs for the first time over 20 years ago and reread the 9 books in Fritz’ story every 5 years or so, I am SOOOO glad to see so many new fans! This would make the best fantasy TV series ever, I really, really need to see that happen! Maybe seeing all the love these books get will finally motivate the right people to finally do it!

I finished Royal Assassin last night and started reading Assassin’s Quest today. It just gets better and better! I think I’m going to binge-read all of Hobb’s books in a row, with one of the main reasons being that we are going to learn more about the Fool. I LOVE him! I think he’s one of my favourite book characters of all time.

I see you just got around to a video for the next book a few days ago, so I’ll be watching that soon (jumping right into Royal Assassin now, will only take me a few days). But I’m disappointed you’re not further along! Bravo! This is a great review to the start of a marvelous series by Robin Hobb.
Your 'spoiler filled format' is awesome. What a fabulous way to review a good book. And everything from Robin Hobb is good... (wait, what am I saying?) I mean to say that everything from Robin Hobb is, in my humble opinion, of course, masterful.
Now, I recall the last time I read Hobb about 4 or 5 years ago, The Fitz and the Fool Trilogy... oh my, those wonderful, wonderful books... I love them and they umm.. 🥺they... 😢😭oh never mind.
I do hope that you absolutely enjoy your immersion into the portentously sublime world of Robin Hobb.
I'm inspired. I'd been thinking about re-reading Hobb’s for a few weeks and now I'm definitively going to read them again thanks to you and your brilliant review.
    Gratitude. 🙏

I absolutely love this video. I've read the entire series and she is truly the QUEEN of fantasy. Also, as she lives right down the way from me, I get to see her at signings and such around the Seattle area. She is such a wonderful person in real life. It's strange to wonder where all this desire to inflict pain on her characters comes from. You will continue to love this series, I suspect, all the way through to the end!

Great book recap. You are turning into such a great story tell. I can tell how fantasy as a genre sparks fantasy in your mind as it should. That is my definition of fantasy. Great job and keep up the great work. Your have a great strength of storytelling yourself as you tell the story of the book. In my opinion don’t worry about spoilers while reviewing these older books. Your passion, sadness and joy come across beautifully. I also just love your joy of actual books.
Books themselves are beautiful tangible art. I tried kindle etc but it took something away from my joy of reading. Keep up the reviews of these beautiful books as they themselves as works of art, not just their contents. Because of you i have bought 35 broken binding books including my favorite erikson book , Deadhouse Gates, which in my opinion can be read as a standalone without reading Gardens of the Moon first and a mire accessible read). I have ordered the copies the core 33 discworld books. I will be rereading them again (mine are trashed from rereads and a lot given away) and try to be kinder to the actual books themselves because I tend to be rough on paper backs. After the second read typically they are just about trashed. Thanks for introducing me to broken binding.
Hopefully they will do a full malazan commemorative set. Let us know if/when that happens. I don’t want to miss out. And as they say over the pond (from my your side of it) Cheers!
    “Merry Christmas, everyone. “

Hello from Edinburgh, Andrew. Fellow Scot / Fantasy-reader here.
I finished the trilogy a few months ago and it's absolutely my favourite thing I've read. I'm the kinda guy who NEEDS to have his heart stamped on during a story. Hobb definitely kills you, OFTEN during Farseer. So glad you've begun this journey, and definitely looking forward to hearing your voice your trauma when ye read the Royal & Quest.
My friends and I are gonna buddy read, one-per-month; The Liveship Traders Jan-Feb-Mar in 2024. I can't wait to read another story set in the same universe.

I just finished this book a few weeks ago. Just like you I plan on reading book 2 sometime after Christmas. Not sure I can handle the emotional turmoil along with the fun & stress of the holidays. I swear your video was a mirror of what I went through. Nosy’s death gut punched me, then to get another dog whose name isn’t Nighteyes…I just knew. My dog, Kimi, is usually on my lap while I’m reading. I hugged her and cried into her fur several times. Every time I screamed at the book my husband would ask if I was truly enjoying it. Uh, yes, NO, well yes. Fortunately he’s a reader too and just nodded his head knowingly. I finally finished the Wheel of Time after 25 years of on and off again reading and rereading so I decided now was the time to start Realm of the Elderlings. The start was great, looking forward to the rest of the journey.

Realm of the Elderlings is my favorite series so I'm really enjoying seeing the beginning of your journey. People were right to warn you but my description of Hobb is that she rips your heart out, stomps on it a few times, and then gives you a long hug whispering that everything will be alright. Her characters don't escape the emotional and physical trauma of what happens to them but there is joy in watching them persevere and find joy in life regardless. I like your vlog style with spoilers but I have read the whole series several times so nothing is ruined for me.

I finished Royal Assassin a year ago and it broke me. I did read a couple chapters of Assassin's Quest but something happened in Royal Assassin that sent me into a deep depression and I couldn't finish it. Maybe I'll be able to return to the series someday.

"And people were saying that I should be worried... How could they be worse??"
    😬🫠
My fan theory is that Hobb's characters are so great because she explores psychological themes in each series. As you have already identified, I think this trilogy is about trauma and depression. But it's not just a good description of the experience, it's a study if the effects they have on us, our relationships, and those around us, but with a pretty inwardly-focused perspective, which is developmentally appropriate for a child like Fitz. Other series explore other topics, or the same topics from different perspectives.
Hands-down my all-time favorite books. Can't wait to see your other reviews.

Yeah, the first one is a lighthearted romp compared to what’s coming. I’ve read the series twice and it’s among my very favorites, probably just behind Malazan.

I’ve read this trilogy and the Tawny Man trilogy and I don’t know whether to praise Hobbs or curse her! I suppose that in itself is high praise.

My main thought while watching this vlog was: "Oh you sweet summer child, you are not ready", hahaha. Hobb is quite tame in this first instalment, so you better get some tissues ready ;)))
Very curious to see how you are going to enjoy the rest of Farseer, especially considering the fact that you mentioned not loving the slower parts while travelling, and that becomes a BIG focus in the later books. Hopefully Hobb will have fully hooked you at that point and you're just along for the ride. Happy reading 🤩

I have only read the first 3 but they were excellent. Outstanding character development. I don't care that it's slower paced. To me, it's like savoring a good meal.

I finished royal assassin and omg it was amazing, harsh and addictive :O Apprentice's was a 4 stars for me but Royal's was easily a 5 stars (specially because of the last 100 pages) :O :O I'm now begging Assassin's Quest and I'm so afraid !! I read the prologue and I was "oh no Hobb you can't to this.... but I'm here for it" :O :O :O

The ending of Royal Assassin is one of the widest things I've ever read, I think I spend the entire trilogy crying haha. My favorite character is definitely Nighteyes

I made my bf read it on audible a bit too long since the last time I read it and it’s so sad that I don’t remember half of what happened so I can finally discuss and rant and rave like I wanted to back when I first read it as a teen. His impression though is hilarious. He hates how dense Fitz is. 😂😂😂 he seems to enjoy the rest. I started on the first audiobook finally after getting a new phone, so hopefully I’ll be able to catch up all the way to talk to him about it. 😍😍😍

You can't do that. I read the sagas ten years ago, I've got a big shame's pile of "to read books" and now, with this video, I've got to read them again. No, you definitely can't do that. Thanks for the content anyway. 😉

I've read the whole series. They are great but I can't reread them. It's too painful. Having that much pain inflicted over so much time with so little respite is a form of masochism I won't repeat. Reading them is like a test of courage, a trial of character. I won't willingly undergo it twice.
