Those guys absolutely loved each other though, they were the best of friends.
What I always liked about this fight scene is that it feels real. Real fights are choppy and not fancy. This just seems like how a real fight would go down between two skilled stand up fighters. When they get hit and the pain sets in, you see it. Still one of my favorites
1:21- My favorite technique of this fight, when Jimmy wrenches Dalton's arm into that flip but he takes the landing without letting it disorient him and then kicks his leg back to counter. I've tried to do that, back when I practiced martial arts. Trust me, even with stretching, reaching your leg back that far (let alone with enough force to kick) is A LOT more difficult than it looks. This shows Patrick's dedication in the instruction he received for the choreography. It also helps, of course, that he was already an accomplished ballet dancer which you can see him taking full advantage of for the kickboxing.
Swayze also studied martial arts, I think he may have even had a black belt in Karate. The whole fight choreography in this movie was done by Benny ''The Jet'' Urquidez, who also trained Dave Mustaine of heavy metal band Megadeth (who is also known for holding black belts in a few martial arts, notably Karate and Tae Kwon Do, plus he's training in Brazilian Jujitsu)
I thought the same thing when he did it. I did okinawan karate a few years and this reminds me a little of that. It’s impossible to generate enough power with that kick to really do anything other than give you time to reassume your fighting stance.

@Zap Rowsdower I dunno 🤷♂ but I liked the “Fight To Death” scene also in Karate Kid ll with Daniel Larusso VS Chozen and the fight scene In Enter The Dragon with Bruce Lee VS Chuck Norris. That was a GREAT fight scene 👍🏽
@Zap Rowsdower Oh come on now, these guys may have agreed to make some contact, may have even taken all the tumbles & falls themselves but this is obviously choreographed/ prearranged, and not particularly well, at that.
OH yeah that's stupid isn't it? But then again she was a practitioner of saving lives. Remember? Her role was that of being a nurse. Well so was my X wife, but she would've said something to the effect of this "gut him like a pig." LOL

In that moment because it was all very fresh, she probably just thought Dalton is no better than Wesley and any of the other bad ones as he killed a man with his bare hands. That's probably how the scenario would go down irl aswell.
Benny 'The Jet' Urquidez was the kickboxing fighter who taught Patrick Swayze the the spinkicks and the high-opening kicks, but didn't just taught Swayze he taught the cast members the fighting moves including Marshall Teague who is good friends with Patrick Swayze in real life.
He studied martial arts in Houston where he was from before he met his wife. Him, his wife and his mother were customers of my mother at Prince's drive-in during the mid 1970's. They ran a dance studio less than a mile from the drive in restaurant.

This is the best "B" movie ever made. It doesn't try to be good and it's good at being bad. I especially like Ben Gazara who seems to be having so much fun playing the villain that he can barely contain himself.
lebarosky Gazzara himself stated at one point that he got more recognition from his role in Road House than just about any other movie he's done, especially from younger fans. If it created new fans of his work and got them to watch his older films, it's all good. It certainly did for me, as I thought he was outstanding in Anatomy of a Murder and The Bridge at Remagen.
I would not classify Roadhouse as a B-Movie. It did not have an enormous budget like other films in 1989. But it was very common back then for lower-budget movies to be made by big stars. It is primarily how the actors built their careers prior to the year 2000. In any case, Patrick Swayze, had already made three really huge pictures by the time Roadhouse was released: The Outsiders (a minor but memorable role), Red Dawn, and Dirty Dancing. All of these films were financially successful. Dirty Dancing was the film that really put him on the map. He was so brilliant in that movie, and it is a movie that is a generational hallmark for a reason. It is really, really good. Roadhouse made Swayze an action star. Ghost made him a super star.
The world's worst girlfriend at the end. She did nothing to help him, then goes straight to help the psychotic rather than her boyfriend, does not see if he is okay, then doesn't talk to him. She is not a keeper.
Exactly!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻she misjudges Dalton for killing a psyco that just tried to kill an inocent old man by exploting his house, and she just saw how that psycho pointed a gun to kill Dalton and even he got to shoot his boyfriend🤷🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
Love the cheesy lines in this film all about the delivery also shame Benny jet didn't fight Dalton he at the car sales scene that would of being great😊
I like how she runs to Jimmy first and tries to pull him out of the water. True physician there. And then she realizes that he's so screwed with his throat ripped out. LOL
If that was my girl, I would have dumped her right after that fight for tending to the guy who just tried to kill me rather than bothering to see if I'm alright. It's like a more extreme version of "The Sonny test" from the movie "A Bronx tale".
She's the type of "liberal" who wants armed bodyguards for herself yet wants everyone else to curl up in a fetal position and hope the cops get there on time.
Excellent directing. At the end, you see how she comes to pull the bad guy out of the water so he can sell the death scene. There's no cutaway. He's holding his breathe while being completely limp as she pulls him out. Dalton's not gonna pull him out of the water after killing him. That's why she shows up at the end of the fight even though she definitely could have gotten there a lot sooner.
Andy on Parks and Recreation (Chris Pratt) reenacted this scene and said, "Takes the esophagus out of the neck area... you can't eat. You'll starve to death""
The ONLY thing I didnt like about this scene was at the end...the so called "girl friend" IMMEDIATELY ran to the aid of Jimmy who just pretty much tried to kill everyone. She then gives Dalton this look like "I cant believe you had to KILL him". A REAL woman would have consoled her man, not care about some piece of shit trouble maker that just tried to KILL her boyfriend AND with a gun no less! Fucking THUMBS up if you agree and for REAL women!
Marshall said him & Pat agreed on beating the shit outta each other give the audience a real show, but left the faces alone cause 2 more weeks of shooting. Also that seen was the first time they ever met, they became his friends after that, that's awesome.
There's quite a lot of drama and interesting things going on in the scene. Especially the lady at the end. Fights in movies today take one hour, there's a whole army of robotic alien mega scorpions crashing into each other and you don't care one bit about any of it.
The Rock OBVOIUSLY,its a movie where else do you hear bone crunching noises every punch in real life? You get slapping noises ffs lol.And all these guys in a movie walk around like fuck all happened accept a slight cut on the eyebrow after being pummeled for 15 minutes? They would be in a fucking COMA in less than 3 minutes being hit like they depict it.
I'll never forget how bad Wesley pissed me off in this movie. But that guy did a great job with his role. LOL. He was such an awesome bad guy. Pat was whoopin' everybody in this movie. LOL

The guy who plays Jimmy is excellent, he's got some damn good moves, but always plays the bad guy loser. he was damn good in Blood and Bone. This was a good realistic fight scene, lot of knees and elbows and nothing really flashy.
Despite the film's cheesiness, you are so right about the realism. I took special attention at the wrist throw around 1:20, that's how most people would fall while resisting. As opposed to the rolls trained in martial arts clubs.
They actually hit each other. For 5 days, 5 1/2 hours a day and 72 takes. Swayed suffered broken ribs and Teague had a cracked eye socket. The log was real as well. Teague thought it was prop and it wasn't.
Marshall and Swayze initially didn’t get along while filming this but when they started working on this fight scene they found they both wanted it to look as realistic as possible, and they built enough trust to start throwing real punches and kicks. A happy ending
You can critize a lot of things about these 80s action movies, but they knew how to shoot a fight scene. Compare this the shaky cam/ constant quick cut crap we see today. This scene is beautifully shot with some clean editing. We can clearly see both characters, we know who is doing what, where each character is in relation to the other, Take notes Hollywood, this is how you shoot a fight scene!

alucard624 Hahaha. Ben is terrific in Road House. People love and remember films like this!
This movie is what "good t.v." was in the 70's. I loved it. RIP PATRICK.
Jimmy was tough as nails regardless . Gotta give him credit . Victory for Dalton but not a flawless one
Damn right. Jimmy gave him the work for a minute.
who would win in a movie character fist fight between Dalton and Philo Beddoe
@@cedricforeman1176 My money’s on Dalton
Looked to me like jimmy got his ass handed to him majority of the fight..
He only got that one round with a dirty tactic
That was probably 1 of the most epic fight senes put on film great movie
The world's worst girlfriend at the end. She did nothing to help him, then goes straight to help the psychotic rather than her boyfriend, does not see if he is okay, then doesn't talk to him. She is not a keeper.
Exactly!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻she misjudges Dalton for killing a psyco that just tried to kill an inocent old man by exploting his house, and she just saw how that psycho pointed a gun to kill Dalton and even he got to shoot his boyfriend🤷🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
Classic 80's action fight scene you don't get this now from Hollywood films its all quick cuts and CGI blood lame
Warren Prior dont' forget the shaky camera so you can't see shit... though 80s fights tended to be way overly articulated.
Love the cheesy lines in this film all about the delivery also shame Benny jet didn't fight Dalton he at the car sales scene that would of being great😊
Stratham uses that bs all the time. guy was nit as talented as Swayze
stratham should be in a roadhouse remake with fat seagal as the villain lol
John Wick baby
I like how she runs to Jimmy first and tries to pull him out of the water. True physician there. And then she realizes that he's so screwed with his throat ripped out. LOL
Damn how did he pull his throat out like that? Grip strength 100%
Pure movie bullshit. Entertaining, but impossible in real life. Still a great scene though.
It’s plot armor but still badass to this day
This still hits harder than the remake version...
Nah the remake was better
@@Ugh-r8mbahahahahahaha
What the hell is her problem?! Talk about misplaced priorities...
Right?? I've ALWAYS thought that!
If that was my girl, I would have dumped her right after that fight for tending to the guy who just tried to kill me rather than bothering to see if I'm alright. It's like a more extreme version of "The Sonny test" from the movie "A Bronx tale".
😂😂😂😂😂😂
@@billrhoasts5456 literally. after that i woukd have chose for her to die instead of wade cause atleast wade had his back
She's the type of "liberal" who wants armed bodyguards for herself yet wants everyone else to curl up in a fetal position and hope the cops get there on time.

@@valkor73 Mr Maugi? Even Google doesn't know what that means.
The fight scene here is WAYYY better than the 2024 version. Lots of kicks.
Jimmy was a much better villain too.
Not real I like the remake better
That throat rip was an instant classic.
I love how he drives slow on on his motorcycle so Dalton can catch up to him. lol
Earlier in the film, being Zen, Dalton says "No one ever wins a fight" well, tell that to the guy who's had his throat ripped out!
I love this movie, it’s so hilarious to me
Jimmy yelled after he has his throat ripped out.
I caught that too, surprised most these comments wasn't about that
"PREPARE TO DIE!" That's some fine writing on display
Love the “You are such an asshole.”
Lol Dalton is just 150% done with all this shit.
Dalton must’ve ruled the pursuit angle drill in football.
Two karate/kickboxing guys going at it. Pretty good choreography
Benny the Jet, world martial arts champion, coached Patrick Swayze and helped with the choreography. It's as if Swayze channeled Benny in this scene.
Should've had him in the fight, instead. Probably more entertaining despite sad outcome.
love the 80s fight scene music too! A lot like Lethal Weapon.
RIP God Rest UR Soul Patrick Swayze man o man I hate that ur gone from us way to soon
2:56 lmfao come on dude
2:52 maybe the inspiration for Mortal Kombat's "Finish Him!"...
And used by Rambo later on..
One of my favorite fight scenes ever
"I'm Swayze" was literally a rap thing. Both Pac and Biggie quoted it.
Honestly one of the best fight scenes ever
best fight scene ever
There's quite a lot of drama and interesting things going on in the scene. Especially the lady at the end. Fights in movies today take one hour, there's a whole army of robotic alien mega scorpions crashing into each other and you don't care one bit about any of it.
In pats defense. jimmy did pull a gun so pat was justified in protecting himself. Plus. jimmy was a jerk and bad guy
This fight scene is the reason why I watch the movie.
More action than some mma and ufc match together!!!
VIKINGODIN i hoped more u could see the humor of it!!! Fiction and real time!! But even the ufc is fixed up these days!!
The Rock Oh.
"Dalton rips his throat out!
...Now he cant eat.... he'll starve to death"
I'll never forget how bad Wesley pissed me off in this movie. But that guy did a great job with his role. LOL. He was such an awesome bad guy. Pat was whoopin' everybody in this movie. LOL
Can't deny Jimmy came close to beating him though he lost. He was Wesley's toughest goon.
@@castortroy7704 Hey! I didn't see this one! Yeah he was also a very good actor. The entire movie was awesome.
@@castortroy7704i don't think he got nowhere near close to getting Dalton. He just got a round
Roadhouse....bk in school in 90 this was the pirate VHS that everyone wanted as films came out on video bout a year after cinema release bk then....all time classic ❤
Who’s here after tonight’s episode of Squidbillies to how well the final fight syncs up? lol
I love this because it’s mostly realistic. It looks messy, blows don’t land, relatively short, and both guys are exhausted and a little disoriented.
That was the best fight on a movie ive ever seen
No, it wasn't.
Well yeah I've seen better fights since then
what's your opinion of every which way but loose & any which way you can. Philo Beddoe had some good fights plus he would whoop Dalton ass
U know it's amazing how actor's can play fight with our hurting their selfs
"Damn boy, I thought you was good"
😂😂😂 he was funny
That shows all up into this point I think jimmy didn't want to have to face Dalton as he knew it was a strong possibility he'd loose (which he definitely did)
@@checmatetv7179 I thought he didn't face him until later (when he instigated the fight in the bar with his pool cue) because Wesley thought his lower tier guys could take out Dalton.
But when he kept consistently beating them Wesley realized it was time to bring in the heavy artillery.
@@danieljackson1272 True ,but you see in the bar how Wesley stopped it,even then Jimmy was already starting off getting his ass handed to him,go back and watch it again
the spinning kick of Patrick Swayze at the begging looks like a Ballet Move. 😂
1:53 is everything! 🤣
"THE NAME IS DALTON!"
He was a way more zen fighter and not a bad guy at all in Babylon 5--minus his Season 1 appearance as another character.
They actually hit each other. For 5 days, 5 1/2 hours a day and 72 takes. Swayed suffered broken ribs and Teague had a cracked eye socket. The log was real as well. Teague thought it was prop and it wasn't.
I think that's my favorite part of the fight scene. That was a bad ass move.
When was he in blood in and blood out
Best fight scene to this very day! Not other one better…
Them cheesy one liners “prepare to die”
2:55 i swear the way Swayze kicks his throatless body into the lake is a thing of beauty .
A polar bear fell on me....
This is the old fashion fight No weapons just the way of the fist and kicks
Timeless film & action. Swayze spinning back kick better than most MMA fighters.
I love the sound effects of them fighting lol
you ripped his throat out mijo
😂 💀
Marshall and Swayze initially didn’t get along while filming this but when they started working on this fight scene they found they both wanted it to look as realistic as possible, and they built enough trust to start throwing real punches and kicks. A happy ending
It's always cracked me up for some reason at 0:41 when Dalton gives Jimmy that little grin.
bax323 Dalton gave him that grin to say "yeah...I'm beatin' that was right now!"
💯 thought I was the only one lol
@@MRBANKS16He got salty asf😂
You can critize a lot of things about these 80s action movies, but they knew how to shoot a fight scene. Compare this the shaky cam/ constant quick cut crap we see today.
This scene is beautifully shot with some clean editing. We can clearly see both characters, we know who is doing what, where each character is in relation to the other,
Take notes Hollywood, this is how you shoot a fight scene!
