  • A conversation with Lars Frederiksen, guitarist of Rancid and frontman of Old Firm Casuals and Lars Frederiksen and the Bastards. In this episode, Rob and Lars get deep into multiple topics including stories of his rebellious youth, his journey to becoming sober, his views on today's political issues and "conspiracy theories", plus tales of being on tour with The Ramones, some Rancid touring highlights (and disasters), as well as what led him to record his latest solo album, "Victory".

Great show! I watched Lars on Zetro a few months ago and in both cases wished the video/chat was longer! Great stories from you two, and as a fan of this counterculture for 35+ years now, it's great to hear stories from people like Rob and Lars referencing loads of other bands and defunct venues that we grew up with and loved.
I saw Body Count in 1992 on their first proper tour. Pro-Pain, DRI, and Exodus opened. Jesus christ it was an amazing bill. I was 17 and about 5 years into punk and metal culture. This show in particular had a major impact on me and Exodus was the most metal thing I had ever seen on a stage in person before. This was during the Force of Habit period, approaching the twilight of metal's fi$cal heyday. Little did anybody even know at the time that these days were ending. I am glad to jave caught the last 5 years of the 80s and early 90s when a lot of bands, although veterens, were still younglings in their prime.
I saw the 1996 Lollapalooza tour with The Ramones and Rancid and remember it like yesterday. I still have my ticket and full page jumbo ad/handbill from the weekly regional music paper. I bought a Grateful Dead skull logo sticker in the parking lot. I don't even like the GD but I still have that sticker on the case of my 1985 Ibanez V and when I see it on there it reminds me of the day I saw Rancid and The Ramones with Soundgarden and Metallica later that night.
DMC would be a great guest. Eclectic music fan, also the first true rebellious album I ever purchased with my own money was Raising Hell when it came out on cassette with the green label. After that I found AC/DC, GNR, Sex Pistols, and the Less Than Zero soundtrack. Then The Misfits and Black Sabbath. This whole journey was within 18 months. Between age 11 and 13 I went from listening to Whodini and Billy Idol to Anthrax (Disease) and Suicidal's How Will I Laugh Tomorrow album. And I blame Run DMC for all of it and gratefully thank them for it.
Bands like Agnostic Front, Cro-Mags, The Exploited, Body Count, The Dead Kennedys, and Discharge will never go away. All of this music is as relevant now as it ever has been. Some of it is prophetic.
Thank you Rob and Lars for the great entertainment.

The new trap scene kinda is the new Era of punk. It was all started via free diy social media platforms like SoundCloud and RUclips. On pirated studio programs, with stolen mics lol.

Great interview! As much as Lars fights it, he's turned into a goddamn hippie! 🤣
In all seriousness, it's nice to be able to relate to some other dudes with the same mindset (and sobriety- on year 21 now) who came from the same time and place as me. Thanks for this video

Cool to hear from Lars. I dig Rancid. Saw em in 1996 at Lollapalooza. On a totally unrelated note the new Vio-Lence song that just dropped Flesh From Bone kicks ass. Can't wait for the EP to come out in March. Easily my most anticipated release so far this year. 🤘

Holy crap "sheer heart attack" is what did it for me. I heard that song in my dad's vinyl around 10 years old and I listened for years to hear something like that. Then when I was 12 I heard Date Rape by Sublime and got into punk rock. I know Date Rape isn't the punkest song out there but it was my gateway

shit Lars is a cat guy. great video bravo guys and a big thank you to Lars Rancid influenced me a lot (the concert with the ramones just magnificent) and I'm not talking about "radical roots" but I must say that "to have and have not" and Skunx I feel find so much in this song. I hope to be able to see you at hellfest 2023 good luck for the future

Yeah. A lot of the SoundCloud rap (which is losing popularity for lyrical rap again) has that aggressive and unapologetic 1-2 minutes per song punk energy, so it’s always funny when punks diss SoundCloud rap. Lol. Then people complain that they rap over beats and “don’t play instruments” when it was cool for punks to not know how to really play their instruments 🙄

sending garbage into space would cost a ton of $$$$, pollution is carried out (in large scale examples) with the motivation of spending as little as possible or raking in maximum profits.
