      +Robert Masterman Ya its something i have always wanted to do,,, and I have long admired the skill of chaps like John ,,,, Yes I suppose i could afford a lathe ,,, but its the years and years it takes gaining the skill and experience to machine such parts,,,,, one chap said to me remember buy a lathe is the easy bit,,, the hard bit is watching the scrap bin fill up before you ever get usable parts,,,,

    Was the valve timing off? Steam engines normally start with maximum torque from a dead-stopped condition and shouldn't need an assist to get going.

    • @haroldpearson6025
      @haroldpearson6025 6 лет назад

      It's a single cylinder and prone to getting stuck on front or rear dead center. On a traction engine you can get over this problem by taking it out of gear and rolling the flywheel/crankshaft past DC by hand. This is not so easy on a locomotive!!

    Please put subtitles. I couldn't understand a thing they said because of their strong accents, and I am a native English speaker. If I am having problems, imagine how it must be for anyone for whom English is a second language.

      I'm sorry to hear that Bruce, you're the first person out of 156,000 viewers who didn't understand what was being said,
      I must say that I am surprised that you couldn't understand a word that was being said, considering that the people who were speaking were simply speaking English with a Welsh accent.
      Unfortunately, I cannot add any additional sub titles after processing this video,

      Поскольку его восстановление было только что завершено, необходимо выполнить еще несколько настроек, чтобы он работал правильно ... Спасибо за ваши комментарии.

    Imaging you begin building this and the technology is obsolete when you're finished. I'd be pissed.

    How could this have possibly taken 14 years to build?...

    • @robmasterman
      @robmasterman  7 лет назад +9

      It took that long because John made most of the part himself, each one engineered to precise measurements, and as a hobby, you take your time to get it right. These are not mass produced machines.....Bob
