This era got more flak for “sounding different”, but this is better than now. Her midbelts were fire here and her mix was less chesty than usual. However, towards 2015, she started to adopt a more whiny and tight approach, which took away from the quality belts. I think that it’s unfortunate that people think that 2016-present are actually better than this era, which isn’t true (at least in my opinion). I really wish Ailee would stop PUSHING so much, it’s even worse now than ever. Not to mention, she’s taken chestiness to another level and her vowel shaping has gotten worse. I honestly hope that she gets a vocal intervention because her constant fatigue these days is honestly a result of her bad habits. Honestly, overall, you can see that her belts in quality are less consistent and it scares me tbh (compare her D5s in 2014 and now, for example). I prefer the 2014/15 vocals for obvious reasons though, because 2016 wasn’t as strong.

I’m glad you find her mid belts here ‘fire’ lol This era has lots of beautiful moments and performances and her health condition was quite good most of time despite whinny quality like from many of Don’t touch me D5s and the ballad performance with Eunji and other 2 girls. So I believe her recent D5s are better (from May 2018) but Idk which one is better overall. Her balancing mix/pushing/narrow vowel shaping always needs work

OMG finally I found a decent comment. For 4 YEARS (since the end of 2016), I was wondering why Ailee's voice sounded so different!!!!!! As a big fan who has been listening to her everyday for years and years, even the slightest change in her voice was noticeable for me. Of course, vocal nodules might have affected that, but she said she was fully recovered. I've been asking about this for 4 years, commenting under every single Ailee's performing video, hoping for experts to answer me. What you've said is what I exactly thought until now, but I wasn't sure if that's true since some people said the reason behind the change in her voice was due to her decision to change her vocalization method and some even said that she sounds much open compared to previous days. However, even when I saw some of her recent concert performances (which are 2019~2020 performances), she sounded so whiny and looked so tired whenever she belted. I don't get why she's having so many concerts when she can't even manage it. I think that's the biggest reason for her vocal fatigue. She's been having concerts every single year and I always noticed a slight change in her voice after the concerts. Especially after IWGTYLTFS era. Since that point on, her vocal technique greatly regressed (at least I believe so). I think it may have been the period when she had a vocal nodule. That change and especially her musical style change in terms of music choice were why I didn't really like her 2nd full album and why I sometimes feel so uncomfortable listening to her belts these days. I am greatly worried and believe that this must be considered seriously since it will determine her future career as a singer. When she released her 2nd full album, although it is true that lack of promotion was one of the reasons for its low sales performance, I think the music quality and her vocal regression were the biggest reasons why it couldn't have had much more recognition by people. If the song is good, then people would've still listened to them and eventually more people would've had listened to it. Why would it still stay unnoticed by so many people? Anyways, if that decisions were deliberately done, I have nothing to say. But, at least, as her fan, I want to see her perform until I die. I don't want her to end her singing career all of the sudden due to marketing failures (basically going bankrupt). Anyways, I don't know how I ended up talking about this topic, but to sum up my main point, I think her voice doesn't sound as tight and resonating as before. Rather, she is pushing to much.

I mean compare her B4 from 2014(4:20) with one from 2016(3:58). Her voice sounds so different. 2016 sounds very dark, but now, it's even darker and unstable. On the other hand, her belts from 2014 is much more stable, clean, and resonating. I prefer her voice from 2014~mid 2016

@@Jayrueine Her voice has gotten MUCH better since the concert performances in dec 2019/jan 2020 (she's stated the vocal nodule has started to shrink). Find her "When We Were In Love" performances (her newest song) and you'll see how much better her voice has gotten.

I don't know if it is actually only me who's feeling like this, but I still feel that her agility in terms of her runs or any other variations of notes seem very shaky and not as clear as her 2012~2016 era. She used to do so many interesting runs back than... Nostalgia... I agree with you that her voice got much better this year, but I think she pushes too much at the end of her performances for When We were in Love. Anyways I love her new album. It is atleast better than thelast album
