It was a perfect episode for Christmas, it really was a Christmas tale, not an episode on Christmas day with Christmas bits added on. It was beautifully constructed, original, moving, and thoroughly engaging. It was brave, as it took a chance with KJ's acting, but for me it will always be the best Christmas episode. Heavenly vocals from KJ.
The thing I loved most about the Doctor's companions is that they were never perfect. Rose was a poor shop girl who never really saw herself going anywhere since she gave it up over a mistake. Then she meets the Doctor and is able to show that she is loyal and brave and that she would do anything, even if it meant destroying herself, to save the man who saved her. It killed her to finally leave the Doctor, but Rose never gave up hope that they would be together. Mickey was a mechanic who didn't really know what to do when a crisis occurred, but did his best to support Rose anyway. He ended up finding a new home and learning that he was brave and able to save others. That he didn't need to be clever or something spectacularly different in order to do the right thing. Captain Jack was a coward who was used to figuring his own way in the world - and was usually ignorant of the havoc he caused when he left. After he joined Torchwood, however, he learned that sometimes you need to shoulder responsibility and face what's coming with open arms. Martha was a POC medical student who was frustrated by how her parents always fought, and hoped that one day she could find someone that be with forever. The Doctor came, and although he liked her, he never realized how much he meant to Martha. But she didn't care. Martha walked the entire world and saved it, and, most importantly, realized when enough is enough. Donna was a temp from Chiswick who was used to being put down and scoffed at, as if she were a nobody that time would forget about. Her sassiness was her only defense, but it only worked so far. When she met the Doctor, Donna saved his life and learned that she was beautiful and brilliant and amazing, simply because she was Donna Noble. Amelia was a little girl forced to live in a adult world, always waiting for the childhood adventures that would never come. Then the Doctor came and showed her that the world is wonderful and dark and mysterious all at the same time. She learned that you are never too old for a Imaginary Friend, especially one as incredible as the Doctor. Rory was the third wheel his entire life, completely over looked by the one he loved. When he finally got his chance, Rory ended up dying, but proved that true love is something death itself couldn't stop. He waited for centuries for Amelia, and when he was reunited never stopped caring for her or loving her. River (Melody) was the killer who was determined to take fate into her own hands. The man she was destined to kill became her husband, and River fought to protect him and her parents, even though they never knew who she was. Her pain and suffering is equaled only to the Doctor's, but she doesn't care, so long as she can have her mad man with a box. Finally, there's Clara. The Impossible Girl. What little girl doesn't dream of a knight in shining armor whisking her away? But no matter how hard Clara tried, no matter what she did, or said, she always ended up in the wrong place at the wrong time. In the end, she had to be the knight and face the dragon. And, ultimately lose. Thank you, Doctor Who. You taught me that even the greatest heroes and heroines aren't perfect. And that's OK
You have overlooked the Doctor's most loyal and constant companion, without whom his journey would never have been possible: Idris. Though given humanoid form only once for a brief time, she loved, protected, and helped the Doctor as no other could. Idris is as crucial to the story of the Doctor as the Doctor himself and she is as ageless as he and, arguably, more wise, for she took him not where he wanted to go, but to where and when he was needed. Idris was much more than the TARDIS; she was "The Doctor's Wife".
It will always have a place in my heart because this was the last Christmas episode of Dr. Who i got to watch with my grandfather. And the message here was what grandpa always told me. Love is blind and eternal. As long as you love and are loved there is no end. Just a new chapter in life and eventually all who you love will see you again. In this life or the next.
yeah but imagine this while listening to the song, a lemur is dancing in front of ya while screaming Booyaka Booyaka lala chilli papaya yakikkty yak yak the rat ate the cat the rock popped the toad
My favorite thing: He came by to see her every year. With the Doctor. She's always saying "Doctor"... but her last time out, she noticed how mature Cazran (sorry if wrong) had gotten. On her last night, she had fallen in love with him. This shows story writing is amazing.
Is there anything more beautiful than this series? Seriously, all it radiates is love. The music is something out of this world, I've never heard anything more astonishing than the scores in Doctor Who.
Definitely the best Xmas special on Doctor Who. The way the old man was bitter and mean because of his father, but changed due to the doctors kindness, and love of the woman.
+TheaterRaven - You can find videos of the live Doctor Who shows, with a huge classical band (sorry for the language, lost the right words to tiredness).
Most beautiful episode of Doctor Who ever! So brilliantly written, beautiful song, and I love it when the Doctor says “See the bowtie? I wear it and I don't care. That's why it's cool.” That's wisdom. I wish people could understand that. Because people try and conform everybody to one particular style, shades of colors, how they wear what they wear. If we didn't all dress so differently and in our own way then humanity would become an ant colony. Is that what people really want? An ant colony?
I can't get through this without breaking into tears. When my dad got sick, I wished I could do anything to keep him just for 1 more day. I miss him so much
I loved this episode. It felt like a journey going with The Doctor, Kazran and Abigail, especially with this music. It felt like an entire season packed into one episode.
This, in terms of Christmas episodes, has no equal. It's actually christmassy for a start. But the plot, script and score are absolutely spot on. I watched it again this Christmas and it's aging really well too. Amazing Episode.
you missed some lines in the lyrics, the song is this this: When you're alone, silence is all you know. When you're alone, silence is all you know Let in the noise and let it grow. When you're alone, silence is all you see When you're alone, silence is all you'll be Give me your hand and come to me. When you are here, music is all around. When you are near, music is all around. Open your eyes, don't make a sound. Let in the shadow, let in the shadow, Let in the light of your bright shadow. Let in the shadow, let in the shadow. Let in the light of your bright shadow. Let in the light. Let in the light. Let in the light of your sweet shadow. When you're alone, oh, Silence is all you know. Silence is all, Silence is all around. Silence is all Silence is all around
Never fails to bring tears to my eyes. No matter how we try time never stops for anyone. But love never ends, as long as we let it into our lives it is eternal.
This is still one of my Favorite episodes of Doctor Who, and DEFINITELY my favorite Christmas Carol. I cry every time from the great writing and emotions :')
Vale deceam. The long song and this is gotta be my favourite and emotional songs at all time ❤. Murry gold and his masterpieces will be missed for ever and ever.
What an amazing voice! The song itself gives you chills. 2:52 and that key change to the powerful ending...brr...gives me chills every time I watch it!
I don't think this episode gets enough credit in the eyes of some fans. It's not perfect, but the concept, Matt's performance, the emotional core, and the song are strong.

one of my favorite doctor who episodes and a amazing beautiful song by Katherine such a amazing voice top 3 in her songs for me 1 angel 2 time to say goodbye 3 this one
The Matt Smith (11th Doctor) series of Doctor Who is one of my favorites. Of course, there are the emotional rollercoaster rides the episodes take us on, but this one - (Season 2:Episode 1) - this song I pour tears every time.
RIP Michael Gambon. One of the best single episode performances of all time.
"Nine hundred years of time and space and I've never met anyone who wasn't important."
Almost 10 years later and I'm still moved one of the best Christmas Specials I'd say.

Alex B Incredible descriptions - absolutely spot on
u forgot that jack is the face of bo too
Took me 25 mins to read, no joke
God, this was such a good episode. This was the best Christmas Special in my opinion.
rubbydubby I personally liked the Waters of Mars more.
RAREBEAR 77 waters of mars is a post-christmas episode
It will always have a place in my heart because this was the last Christmas episode of Dr. Who i got to watch with my grandfather. And the message here was what grandpa always told me. rubbydubby I love it, but Snowmen will always be my number 1
The Smith Specials were gems. Even The Doctor, The Widow, and The Wadrobe had some great moments.
No matter what we say about Moffat, you gotta appreciate the hidden motifs throughout the show that matter later. Like silence.
“And in the end it is not the years in your life that count, it's the life in your years.”
Thank you...
Jake West I love this
Jake West epic
🙏
Thanks man
This song always brings me to tears. Her voice is so heavenly.
I Get all Misty eyed now. Can you imagine this as the music for a emotive interpretive dance routine. I would be balling uncontrollably by the end!
Same here!!!! Aw, no I wanna see an interpretive dance to thing song :'( ome day I know it will be made. This song is amazing.
yeah but imagine this while listening to the song, a lemur is dancing in front of ya while screaming Booyaka Booyaka lala chilli papaya yakikkty yak yak the rat ate the cat the rock popped the toad
Same here 😧😢😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😪😪😪😢😪😢😢😭😭😭😭😪
Listen to her cover Queens Who Wants to Live Forever.. She will break your heart.
This episode made me cry so much.
Laura Bowden Same im crying right now
Did you tingle and feel it when she started singing.
So apt 4 2020😪

Her voice is absolutely hauntingly beautiful and I am so grateful for Doctor Who introducing me to Katherine Jenkins 💙
When you see someone who has lost hope gain it back again…. real tears. THAT’S Christmas!!
God how I miss Matt Smith
Same
Sophie Gale who doesn't. best Doctor without a doubt
David was the best
Sophie Gale me too. Very much so
@@amaterasu686 I liked matt more but that's your opinion
Between the gorgeousness of this and "The Long Song", I'm convinced: There needs to be a "Doctor Who" musical, or at the very least a musical episode.
+TheaterRaven Heard this performed live tonight. Couldn't help myself from tearing up.
Yesssss
+TheaterRaven The Rings of Akhaten was about as musical an episode as you can get
+TheaterRaven I would pay to see the Doctor sing for a whole episode :)
+TheaterRaven - You can find videos of the live Doctor Who shows, with a huge classical band (sorry for the language, lost the right words to tiredness).
This song is very therapeutic. If I'm feeling anxiety/scared/ nervous, just play this song and deep breathing and it calms me fast.
A nice steady 50 beats per minutes or so.
Gosh her singing is so beautiful 💘
my favourite christmas special
Peri 123 this will never NOT be my favourite Christmas episode.
so? What is? :v
I like the Trenzalore one better
Yep, this episode was beautifull.
between this song the long song and the song that the Ood sing for the 10th doctor i am starting to form a playlist of doctor who best songs.
I agree, the Ood sad song, and when they sing to him before he regenerates...magic!
Dragonking1984
vale decem is a fantastic song it was so perfect
The Ood Song is Vale Decem, which translates in Latin to “Farewell Ten”
The music of Murray Gold has brought Dr Who to a whole new level. Outstanding.
Just re-watched this one, had me in tears by the end of it. They couldn't've picked a better cast for this episode.
Most beautiful episode of Doctor Who ever! So brilliantly written, beautiful song, and I love it when the Doctor says “See the bowtie? I wear it and I don't care. If we didn't all dress so differently and in our own way then humanity would become an ant colony. Is that what people really want? An ant colony?
And yet, people 'nonconform' because 'it's cool'... and they end up more drone-like and mindless than ever.
My favourite Doctor Who episode with my second favourite Doctor
God I love Katherine she is not only beautiful but her voice is magnificent.
I can't stand Alfie Boe after what he said about her!
This could very well be a contender for the position of best DW episode of all time. Period. One of Moffat's very finest :)
This song isnțt made by Moffat
@@vestigedayz7289 I think they mean the episode
Listening to this song always helps when I'm feeling lonely... Gosh why is it so beautiful?
Jacquerel27 Take its words to heart!
+Jess Caron And add to that it's sung by a singing goddess!
All people feel lonely sometimes in their life, that is why there are pieces of music like this- to help comfort us, reassure us, give us hope.
Probably the best christmas special ever
This, in terms of Christmas episodes, has no equal. It's actually christmassy for a start. But the plot, script and score are absolutely spot on. I watched it again this Christmas and it's aging really well too. Amazing Episode.
If anyone tells me magic isn't real, I'll show them this song.
Hannah Blanchsky But of course magic is real, you just have to believe.
I like to think of magic as another form of science that not all of us can achieve yet I call magic super science
kelly wilson whitehead I feel the same about magic. Or maybe it could be what people call things when they're unsure.
just show them anything from Katherine Jenkins and if they don't change their mind... they may need some kind of brain alteration 😂
+Hannah Blanchsky *knocks your door down* Yer a Witch Hannah!
you missed some lines in the lyrics, the song is this this:
When you're alone, silence is all you know.
When you're alone, silence is all you know

When you're alone, silence is all you see

Give me your hand and come to me.

When you are near, music is all around.

Let in the shadow, let in the shadow,
Let in the light of your bright shadow.
Let in the shadow, let in the shadow.
Let in the light of your bright shadow.

Never fails to bring tears to my eyes. No matter how we try time never stops for anyone. But love never ends, as long as we let it into our lives it is eternal.
Silence will quite literally be all around the Doctor in the next episode.
I think there's really been a reason for Moffat to choose this song...
Awesome, one of the best "Doctor Who" episodes. Katherine Jenkins as Abigail in Doctor Who a Christmas Carol
I'm listening now into 2024🥰❤️
This song has been haunting me for weeks now. This must be what an angle sounds like!
I watched this episode again today, and I can say for sure that it was beautiful. Certainly one of the best Christmas Specials.
Even just seeing parts of this made me tear up...such a poignant Christmas story
This is still one of my Favorite episodes of Doctor Who, and DEFINITELY my favorite Christmas Carol. I cry every time from the great writing and emotions :')

I don't think this episode gets enough credit in the eyes of some fans. It's not perfect, but the concept, Matt's performance, the emotional core, and the song are strong.
She's an angel
Man, that song... Awesome voice... the best episode ever (I loved the flying fish! I dreamed a lot of time of them before to watch this show!)
It opens up so much and embraces.
When you're alone, silence is all you know.

Katherine is one of the best classical stars and she is stunningly beautiful
Gives me the shivers, matt come back!
I love Doctor Who and I love Katherine Jenkins. Put them together and I'm in heaven. :)
I loved this Dr. Who. They put so much into this episode. You discovered so many answers to a lot of unanswered questions.
Two of my favourite things things coming together: DW & KJ. One hell of a Venn Diagram...
In our hearts, we can - always - believe that Abigail will NEVER die...
The sense of peace and tranquillity of her voice just always calmes my nerves

one of my favorite doctor who episodes and a amazing beautiful song by Katherine such a amazing voice top 3 in her songs for me 1 angel 2 time to say goodbye 3 this one
Bitter/sweet story and song wonderfully presented. My favorite Dr. Who espisode.
The Matt Smith (11th Doctor) series of Doctor Who is one of my favorites. Of course, there are the emotional rollercoaster rides the episodes take us on, but this one - (Season 2:Episode 1) - this song I pour tears every time.
Awesome song and sound quality, "Silence Is All You Know" Katherine as Abigail, she is so pretty
One of my favorite episodes and my favorite song from the show.
Finally watched the Doctor Who special this song came from, and I'm already in love with this song.
