This is a masterpiece of a song that is so hard to sing unless you are classically trained. So for Cheryl to song this like she did should be commended.
For someone generally known for pop music, to essentially re-train your voice to perform classical pieces is no easy feat. Cheryl did bloody well to perform this. There will of course always be haters, but one question..."Think you can do better?"...I doubt it very much.
Look guys this is one of the hardest duets ever to do, Any moron who is classically astute can pick this to pieces, this piece takes years to master and for Cheryl Baker to perform this piece in such a short space of time as well as she did.......she deserves a hand shake for that performance, good job.
Foxworth, what are you on? are you completely tone deaf or stupid, most likely both. you are listening to this on your computer, you will never get the full benefit unless you hear this live and from the reaction of the audience.........they smashed it. With regards to your comments about Katherine Jenkins, they are so off the mark, I simply do not know where to start. Katherine Jenkins may not have a qualification in teaching but from the performance I have witnessed, she is more qualified than most. Additionally I think you are a teacher Georgia, probably didn't have the balls to make a go of it in the real world and opted for the easy option of teaching. Katherine Jenkins and Cheryl Baker, put themselves out there and made it in the real world and left their mark. What has been your contribution to the real world been, I can probably sum it up in two words....F@UK @ll!
+Alan "The grimSickle" Defoe She is tone deaf? Really? have you ever watched a single opera in your life? Your pathetic arguments don't take away the fact that Katherine does not know what the meaning of song is.: 0:42-0:51 HORROR 0_0 she doesn't use correct musical vocab and is saying stuff that is just meaningless. I don't know how people think she is a great "classical star" or "opera star"... she doesn't know how to sing opera! And o I work in the opera community did I mention? you are a loaf who is an obsessive KJ fan who complains about the MUSICALLY EDUTCATED, and PEOPLE WHO KNOW ABOUT OPERA! Well the truth is: WE KNOW MORE THAN YOU! AND MAYBE YOU NEED TO LISTEN TO SOME REAL OPERA SINGERS SINGING THIS: i have a list: Start with Anna Netrebko and Elina Garanca, then move on to Anna Moffo, Joan Sutherland and Marilyn Horne, Dessay, Di Donato and etc, etc. O don't forget MARIA CALLAS! +Georgia Foxworth well these people don't know anything about opera. And they don't know what a fake KJ is and how she hides her weaknesses by slurring her runs. They only thing that I can say good about her is: She is in-tune...... most of the time :)
Almost just too beautiful for words, magnificent voices great orchestra; how simply sublime girls. I’ve played this piece over an over; will never tier of it.
This is proof there is a god . no thing like women singing when it's right .thus is majestic .I sang as a kid with all city choir .conductor Mr motley Leonard Bernstein.and Andrea Watts on piano. At Lincoln center 16 years old what time in my life .and to hear the sopranos in rehearsal oh mY god
Blimey. Only took me 11 years to find this. Absolutely stunning performance by both ladies one complementing the other. And it happens to be one of my favourite arias. Cheryl Baker is a lady of many and hidden talents and well done to Kathryn for just being one of two and not trying to overshadow Cheryl. Class act.
This piece to me is one of the hardest pieces to sing and the clarity goes without saying, absolutely marvellous and first class, they both deserve medals.
In reading these posts by viewers who both love and hate the way the two singers do this work I am reminded of the quote by Emerson: "That inexact science of subjectivity." To each their own, it seems. This was a noble effort.
Cheryl baker sang brilliantly, l would not have guessed she has never done this before, Catherine has we know is out of this world. I like Cheryl baker, she you can tell is a beautiful kind natured person and it came out in her voice. The flowers are for them both.🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
I didn't watch this series because I despise reality TV but, having been told about this remarkable singer, I genuinely regret not having seen Cheryl Baker's discovery of her outstanding talent. Cheryl if you read this - you're damned good
Well this was a programme that passed me by. Who'd have thought it? Cheryl Baker, singer of lightweight pop songs (no offence intended) coming out with this? That must have been one heck of an ambition fulfilled for her. Wonderful.
No you aren't. I loved it and the stupid comments below are just that - stupid. This is a style that would help people who don't the screechy sound of Sutherland learn to enjoy opera.
Screechy? wow you only listened to her later recordings when her voice was deteriorated. listen to the pre-1973 recordings, she sounds like a dazzling songbird with JUST MAGNIFICENT TRILLS! Katherine has never done trills in her life!
She had a few nerves and a couple of wobbles but I enjoyed listening to her . A difficult piece to sing especially when you,re out of your comfort zone and doubly if singing alongside a professional singer of Katherines status , who I have to add , did a great job in supporting Cheryl ......well done both .
I've heard better renditions of this beautiful song, but make no mistake, this was an excellent performance and particularly so from Cheryl. Very well done to the both of you.
Wow, interesting version, here in Germany, we do not know Cheryl Baker, I looked it up and wow one of the most breathtaking opera duets ever and she just made it - okay, one woman - one word, two women - two great voices.
Hey Dora! She's awesome and no amount of denigration from you will elevate you in any way. You aren't an authority, and your criticisms would be funny if they weren't so pathetic.
This is soo damn awsome, the harmonies of them are perfectly fitting, it is sooo damn unbelievable what Cheryl Baker mastered in this short time, the timing, the note, everything was perfect ❤
Well who'd have known? Cheryl Baker eh? My best memory of her is the Eurovision thing in about 1981 when she had her skirt whipped of by one of the blokes in the group. So did the other lass but that's irrelevant. 🤷🏽♀️
This piece is a big deal vocal duet you can expect a faultless performance from Miss Jenkins, naturally. But little Cheryl Baker was an absolute revelation, fabulous, bloody well done 👏👏👏👍xx
Surely this is the most beautiful love song between two women. When I listen to this music and the singers I'm just transported to a dimension I can't really comprehend but can still be enraptured by.
Beautiful. Cheryl did a great job learning a tricky part in a language she doesn't know and doing it in such a short time. The rude and critical comments below are uncalled for. I love this mellow sound better than the traditional screechy voice of Sutherland. I know Sutherland can hit the most incredible high notes but they just aren't sweet.
Linda Marek Horne was called "the greatest singer in the world" by Opera News magazine and La Stupenda was dubbed the "voice of the century." They could sing almost anything. These two girls gave it a shot, but they are not in the same league and two of the greatest voices of all time. "screech owls"? I know what a screen owl sounds like. They do not sustain notes on pitch, they do not trill, they can not control their dynamics at will, and they don't have mastery over the breath and their instruments. Sutherland and Horne did. These girls don't. You'll never hear them in opera because they lack the talent that is required. They might be hired in my company to sing in the chorus, but never for roles.
Vibrato is a natural vibration in the vocal chords that shouldn't be "used" or forced (even though some people do:P) some have an uncontrollable vibrato that actually makes their tone and pitch off b/c they can't control it. Katherine doesn't have that but she does happen to have a very fast light vibrato, that's why she's what's called a lyric mezzo-soprano. true it doesn't appeal to everyone but it's just her natural voice.being natural which im pretty sure hers is, it won't damage her voice
MICHELLE - Cheryl had a few days to learn her part and the words in another language and then sing in front of that crowd. Give her a break. Katherine told her to sing ah if she forgot a word. Who are YOU anyway?
+george zaggogiannis I really thought you were just jealous. I am sorry to say, you are right. It's actually quite painful. I don't think Cheryl is great either though. There's no better than Horne and Dame Joan.
neither of these singers are Opera singers... I'd sack the orchestra myself, they were too slow.. Saying that, these gals did a great job considering they're of the contemporary side of music. And they both look and sound amazing. Kudos you both
Nope, not professionally. I am just an opera fan, but I do have some knowledge of opera, my mother took me to opera when I was little, so I've listened a lot to it, heard many great singers live. I did take some lessons but only for personal enjoyment. I just thought of something. If you are curious about becoming an opera singer, there is a documentary here called "The education of an opera singer" that follows a young singer as she tries to make it. Here it is: /watch?v=uo2x1W5M-V8
Listen to Elina Garanca or Rinat Shaham or Olga Borodina or... BTW - if you want to be an opera singer, you should find a good teacher and ask her to evaluate your voice and see if you have it. Then you can take lessons and be prepared to work very hard and for a very small chance to make it. But you should also learn more about opera, maybe listen to some full operas, go to opera, etc.
It is the harmonies that make this song and these two nailed it.
This is a masterpiece of a song that is so hard to sing unless you are classically trained. So for Cheryl to song this like she did should be commended.

Well, look to Amira Flower Duet and yuo see it better.
Don’t agree at all and time will prove me right!
One of my favourite duets. Loved Cheryl & Katherine's rendition they blended beautifully. Two very charming attractive ladies appearing on stage.
This is one of the most beautiful pieces I’ve heard in my life!
How beautiful voices ❤❤❤
Look guys this is one of the hardest duets ever to do, Any moron who is classically astute can pick this to pieces, this piece takes years to master and for Cheryl Baker to perform this piece in such a short space of time as well as she did.......she deserves a hand shake for that performance, good job.

I'll go with that
Alan that is
Said it before and now again.....there is no room for academic snobbery on RUclips
Almost just too beautiful for words, magnificent voices great orchestra; how simply sublime girls. I’ve played this piece over an over; will never tier of it.
To all the musical experts here, I don't care what you think, I'm just enjoying two women singing my favourite duet of all time.
Not to forget they are absolutely Gorgeous Beautiful women
Ok, I am not an opera buff, just a peasant who likes good music. Maybe not technically perfect, but they sounded real good to me.
Blimey. Only took me 11 years to find this. Absolutely stunning performance by both ladies one complementing the other. And it happens to be one of my favourite arias.

I'm no expert but that was lovely! :0)
wow! Cheryl Baker Flower Duet? Very pleasantly surprsied .. well done Ms Baker. :)
Well this was a programme that passed me by. Who'd have thought it? Cheryl Baker, singer of lightweight pop songs (no offence intended) coming out with this? That must have been one heck of an ambition fulfilled for her. Wonderful.
Totally amazing Cheryl and Catherine perfect beautiful two wonderful ladies
Esta es una de las composiciones para dueto más hermosas que existen. Y estas dos estrellas lo hicieron maravillosamente bien
Am I the only one who loved this?
No you aren't. I loved it and the stupid comments below are just that - stupid. This is a style that would help people who don't the screechy sound of Sutherland learn to enjoy opera.
+Linda Marek Awww. Don't diss Sutherland!!! :(
Screechy? wow you only listened to her later recordings when her voice was deteriorated. listen to the pre-1973 recordings, she sounds like a dazzling songbird with JUST MAGNIFICENT TRILLS! Katherine has never done trills in her life!
I loved it.
I love this too
I am surprised at Cheryl Baker sounding so good.. well done Cheryl fantastic rendition😮🎉🎉
They were GREAT! Singing opera is extremely difficult, and in the short time they had to practice they were amazing.
Cheryl did such a good job and was super - she was robbed not winning this!
Beautiful. It's like being in heaven....
I was astounded that cheryl Baker could reach that operatic range. Absolutely love her! 💘
I’ve never seen this before I came here. Cheryl did an amazing job! That was sublime!
What an amazing opera!!! And they sounded great singing it!
Absolutely amazing, stunning. Bravo bravo
Fuck me! My fillings in my teeth nearly fell out after listening to that horrible horrible horrible warbling by that Katherine Jenkins.
It's not a good sign for the soprano's high notes to be completely overshadowed by the mezzo line.
emmainthepiazza but the mezzo haves a richer sound, and Katherine is a new singer (She is not that experient) so is just acceptable.
Sávio Alves yeah but the mezzo isn't supposed to be this overpowering in this duet. But Ms. Baker did a great job nonetheless.
She had a few nerves and a couple of wobbles but I enjoyed listening to her . A difficult piece to sing especially when you,re out of your comfort zone and doubly if singing alongside a professional singer of Katherines status , who I have to add , did a great job in supporting Cheryl ......well done both .
Give me loads of Cheryl Baker every time!
Well done Cheryl Baker. I didn't know she could sing like that. Katherine is always brilliant.
Cant believe 139 idiots have give this a thumbs down, for someone who never did opera before this was brilliant.
my God. made me tingle all over. I didn't know that Cheryl could sing. wow
I've heard better renditions of this beautiful song, but make no mistake, this was an excellent performance and particularly so from Cheryl. Very well done to the both of you.
Wow, interesting version, here in Germany, we do not know Cheryl Baker, I looked it up and wow one of the most breathtaking opera duets ever and she just made it - okay, one woman - one word, two women - two great voices.
this was such a brilliant program, needs to be done again. how can they say no when this happens, just so so good.
Cheryl Baker has done an amazing job.
Stunning sound, stunning blend, stunning!
Wonderful rendition by Cheryl !! A difficult piece well done !
Ohhh GOD..be merciful!!! Those women are singing wonderful. Only for that kind of marvelous things from earth I still living
Holy shit! Here I am, a million years later... this is amazing. Fair play Cheryl!
The hall used for the string instruments must’ve made it harder due to the the reverb...but beautiful performance!
Quite simply the most powerful version of this duet I have ever heard !!! Even better than Sutherland and Horne.
Hey Dora! She's awesome and no amount of denigration from you will elevate you in any way. You aren't an authority, and your criticisms would be funny if they weren't so pathetic.
Cheryl that was stunning it was beautiful ❤
Well done Cheryl! How lucky to get the chance to do this.
I really hope that this created a beautiful lifelong friendship. ❤️
Who knew Cheryl could sing like that!
This is soo damn awsome, the harmonies of them are perfectly fitting, it is sooo damn unbelievable what Cheryl Baker mastered in this short time, the timing, the note, everything was perfect ❤
Think cheryl Baker smashed this ❤❤❤❤
They performed quite well considering how quickly they had to learn this.
This is music of heaven & I love Katherine Jenkins. I wish I could meet Katherine.
porque no kay cesura in the flowerd y abaut phornofor piros yes se acabo el imperialismo vivi el brcts
Well who'd have known? Cheryl Baker eh?
My best memory of her is the Eurovision thing in about 1981 when she had her skirt whipped of by one of the blokes in the group. So did the other lass but that's irrelevant. 🤷🏽♀️

Absolutely wonderful two amazing ladies in perfect harmony Cheryl and Catherine you are wonderfully matched love it.
This piece is a big deal vocal duet you can expect a faultless performance from Miss Jenkins, naturally. But little Cheryl Baker was an absolute revelation, fabulous, bloody well done 👏👏👏👍xx
Katherine Jenkins... marry me right now. You are a FUCKING ANGEL°
Well........they chopped the bridge, good idea considering the time constraints and all that. But a pretty great feat overall.
Well done, especially Cheryl. Didn't know she was up to singing the high notes. Wonderful, both of you.
Surely this is the most beautiful love song between two women. When I listen to this music and the singers I'm just transported to a dimension I can't really comprehend but can still be enraptured by.
fucking ace!
Wonderful match! It would be great if someday this dynamic could sing the Abendsegen duet from Hansel and Gretel.
Beautiful. Cheryl did a great job learning a tricky part in a language she doesn't know and doing it in such a short time. The rude and critical comments below are uncalled for. WOW WOW WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
From a madd keen 75yo Aussie fan.
They sure sound very good to me,also
tuning was terrible throughout. Timbres utterly unsuited. Badly sung. Gross.
From pop singer to opera singer, what a leap. To be honest I think Cheryl was robbed of first place but that is only my opinion
Vibrato is a natural vibration in the vocal chords that shouldn't be "used" or forced (even though some people do:P) some have an uncontrollable vibrato that actually makes their tone and pitch off b/c they can't control it. I love this duet with my whole heart. 💜
Well KJ wobbling through that completely ruined it.
I still think Cheryl should have won this competition.
Wow, Cheryl!!!! I would not have expected that! Amazing!!!!!!!!!!
The n's shouldn't be pronounced in french. For Example "chante" And Cheryl forgot so many words...replaced with instead, an "ah".
MICHELLE - Cheryl had a few days to learn her part and the words in another language and then sing in front of that crowd. Give her a break. Katherine told her to sing ah if she forgot a word. Who are YOU anyway?
This is really interesting. What was the tv show called?
From popstar to operastar
I think Cheryl was amazing 💕
Just beautiful!
Very nice, but opera? No. A thousand times, no.
JESUS!! That was amazing!! Go on Chezza
Absolutely brilliant - superb - breathtaking - really moved me.
Cheryl did herself proud and deserved to win.
She was robbed by the British public!
Cheryl Baker was quite smooth and nice to hear, but Jenkins is wobbly as hell!
+george zaggogiannis I really thought you were just jealous. I am sorry to say, you are right.
It's actually quite painful. I don't think Cheryl is great either though.
There's no better than Horne and Dame Joan.
Dame Joan & Marilyn Horne are wonderful but take a listen to Renee Fleming and Susan Graham. Their performance is on RUclips.
they are both so wonderful, different than netebrenko and garancia, still stunning.
I am not sure it is fair to compare this to two giants of the opera world like Miss Netrebko and Miss Garanča.
I come back again and again to listen to angels never disappointed
İki seste bu an için yaratılmış ❤
wow .. beautiful
Beautiful ⚘⚘⚘
Beautiful. So so beautiful. It made me cry.
Brilliant!
Ugh. Their vibratos are so different they clash really hard.
neither of these singers are Opera singers... I'd sack the orchestra myself, they were too slow.. Saying that, these gals did a great job considering they're of the contemporary side of music. And they both look and sound amazing. Kudos you both
With some coaching this is so far the best (not necessarily so great) opera singing from KJ.
UN BELLO DUO
Nope, not professionally. I am just an opera fan, but I do have some knowledge of opera, my mother took me to opera when I was little, so I've listened a lot to it, heard many great singers live. There was no "making your mind up" Well done Cheryl

Wow she amazin cheyral
Katharine Jenkins is a pleasant young woman but she was totally out of her depth in this show. We all know who should have done that job!
Anyone listening in 2024¿
