Was an enthusiastic horn player in high school, now I'm in architecture school in college and no longer play. Funny how I used to watch this and adore the music, now I watch and marvel at the performance hall.
i cannot get over how amazing this group is. its absolutely unbelievable. i listen to this all the time and never get tired of it. it was actually my ringtone for awhile. :)
I am surprised that nobody has said "Three people are trumpet players" Amazing job on this recording. Definitely some of the best talent this world has to offer!
Very happy I play one! There's isn't a better instrument! I've only been playing for a couple years now and hope to get this good someday. So much fun!
I could totally play this, with about 33 hours of practice a day under the assumption that I will live to be 500...never mind...even under those circumstances I could never even come close!
They have tons of confidence and aren't afraid......Fergus talks a lot about singing before playing something. He makes a really good point with it.......the instrument is merely an amplifier....Sing the music before you play it, it helps with confidence and builds your ear for pitching correctly. Listen to lots of recordings, and take lessons with lots of different people. Not just one person as everyone has something different to offer...a different perspective.
did you notice the horn at 4:49 sorta choke on his saliva or something and slightly mess up... thats a hard section there, with a fast passage, loud and low as well. I give props to that guy for recovering so quickly!
I agree, this is as good as it gets. However, they DO make mistakes in this recording, which I admire. ALL recordings these days are edited from many many takes to get one perfect recording, and so I enjoy this performance more than any other.
I would love to hear you present those comments to that ensemble in person, or maybe post a video response of you playing it better. Oh and do it sooner than later they don't spend much time working on these pieces before they record them so neither should you!
@rugbyplayer9999 They many mistakes if you listen but they are professionals which is why you can't really pick them out. stefan made a few and so did klaus.
@@AndewMole in my experience you can see enough over the stand at normal height and also so much is communicated by just the way they play. I am sure it’s mostly just so the cameras can see the musicians clearly.
best at classic 'brassy' songs in Wagner and often used as a staple of American melodies. not useful for jazz or alternative in my opinion. They can be beautifully powerful to play, love playing it.
Ah, us horn players are only human afterall? No matter what the level, there is bound to be a cack somewhere along the line! These guys are of course fantastic and are def by far the horn gods!
Lets see: Baborak is Czech, Stefan J is from the USA, Fergus McWilliam is from Scotland, and Sarah Willis is from everywhere (Born in the USA, lived in Australia, Russia, London among others). Only half the section is actually German!
True. But nobody ever claimed that this ensemble only consisted of Germans. And does it matter? When this was recorded, all of them played in the Berlin Philharmonic orchestra.
who said anything about being mean? who said he wasn't a pro? I never argued his greatness however i was stating his tongue got slow, it wasn't a fingering issue as others had said. Though regardless of him having a professional reputation and being a very fine player it was very off for him to gesture like that. It could take away from the audience if you know what I mean.
uhm.. reading skills help. I said his tongue got slow, that isn't something you would need to comment on considering it happens to everyone and you can't prevent it, unless of course you were insinuating he never had the speed and focus to do it in the first place. thanks for acting big on youtube.
his tongue got slow sux he probably sat there for hours going over it to prevent it that or he shrugged because he didn't care and was getting paid anyways
for stating his tongue got slow for one reason or another then saying he very visibly shrugged it off? perhaps it's in your school of teaching to make mistakes bluntly obvious however my background has taught me even if you were to make a mistake regardless of why it happened you don't wave a red flag to the audience, specially in recording. I am not a professional however, that is professional performance conduct.
Ryan McGaha They do. You have to think about it. The Vienna horns only publish studio records, where they have infinite tries to get the best result. This was live. Also, the Vienna horns play almost only film music which you probably like better.

That means that you are a very well rounded artist in every sense!!

So proud to play this instrument!!
It truly is the most wonderful instrument in the world! I am so glad I did horn instead of clarinet.
生でききたい!!
すごすぎる**
Sarah Willis is my horn hero!
I am utterly shocked and have no words for such a beautiful sound and item God had made.
The 5 people who dislike this video do not know amazing musicianship.

I've listened to this 6-part series maybe 10 times and think it is one of the true gems RUclips. Thank you for posting them dflatmajor!
Oh, for a second it looked like the little section in heaven reserved for the best horn players.
I am surprised that nobody has said "Three people are trumpet players"

It's a shame more people aren't aware of the music this beautiful instrument is capable of producing!
Brilliant! Well played
Je les adore !!!
i think of the horns and this song every single day, hour, and second..
help me!
this is amazing.
Horn is an exceedingly diffucult instrument to play. This is as good as it gets.
they are virtuoso
*jaw drop* that is a smokin' tempo. that's almost as fast as the regular speed...and those scales are played by violins!
Now that is what music is all about.
Mamma mia che esecuzione!
Davvero di un livello superiore!
its very nice!
man is this awesome or what
Weltklasse

Also, why the heck would anyone dislike this? 3 people are out of there minds!

I approve of this video.

i play french horn, and they're just mad XD
Ruslan in Ludmila from Mikhail Glinka for horns in F---that is realy the best...:P
amaizing
I would love to hear you present those comments to that ensemble in person, or maybe post a video response of you playing it better. Oh and do it sooner than later they don't spend much time working on these pieces before they record them so neither should you!
that is probably the hardest excerpt in that piece.
Roman Carnival Overture is Berlioz. This is Glinka. Ruslan & Ludmilla Overture.
I love French Horns... they're so tooby.
Sorry, can't say that. The group represents people from several countries.
Where can I find the score for this?
where can i get the sheet music??! I can't find it anywhere
Eargasm
More playable tempo than London Horn Sound so the runs come out nicely. And Sarah is so sick...pedal Ebs for the win
Awwwww Herr Hauptmann
Baborak
4:46
He seemed to be a little overwhelmed.
Defense99 good thing sarah willis was playing that walk down part too
@rugbyplayer9999 Practice, practice, practice and Stephan doesn't make many mistakes although I did hear a clinker on a high note in this video.
stefan dohr could come in a pink jumpsuit and i don't think anyone would mind it if it he played that.
Ruslan in Lundmila from Mikhail Glinka for horns in F---that s realy the best ..:D:D
@rugbyplayer9999 Haha, well...look at the names though....Fergus isn't exactly German :P He went to the University of Toronto :)
@rugbyplayer9999 They many mistakes if you listen but they are professionals which is why you can't really pick them out. stefan made a few and so did klaus.
That's what i call a high register
Fucking amazing!
Wow they have their stands really low.
It’s so they can be seen on the camera. There’s no other reason to put them that low.
@@maxwellstein9953 to look at each other?

why is it sometimes French horn, and sometimes just horn?
It is the same thing but most musicians prefer to just call it horn. French horn is considered street slang.
@rugbyplayer9999 they started practicing this in their mothers womb
This is not perfect, but the sound is great !!!! french horn has the most beautiful sound from all the classisc instrum !!!
Superlative playing. but I cant ignore the guy second from right, he looks much like Benny hill. (I keep waiting for the Yakety Sax to begin...)
sooooo uh a score?
Can the horn play a lot of music?

well thats what you called: "The Power of German Engineering"
if angels play the trumpet then God plays the Frnch horn! lol french horn players are the best kissers of the brass players also!
Obviously they don't know that the French Horn is the best instrument! Must be flute players or something....
oops its ruslan ludmilla
who's 1st horn player?
You can see it at the beginning. It's the legendary Stefan Dohr.
Who is he??? Did you really ask that?😂 jk
roman carnival overture
