Vin Scully was a great man and a gift from God to all of us. May we all try to be like Vin everyday. As a Lifelong Dodger fan he filled my life with so many great memories. My Grandma listened on her little transistor radio to Vin. My Grandparents saw the Dodgers at the Colosseum in 1958
I can sit hear and listen to the great Vin and practically see the games or whatever he talked about. I am so very grateful to have grown up listening to the very best, Vin Scully
The man is truly a great basic person who loves life and baseball! We need more of this type of person in our society today! Thank you Vin! Stay well !
When asked if people will miss him, Vinny replied, "They're going to miss me for a little while ... I'll give them a year, and a year from now, younger people will say, 'Who is Vin Scully', and that's ok, I don't mind that at all". Boy was he wrong! 6 years later, and everybody knows who you are, and has missed your mark on the game, and will continue to do so. Thanks God for RUclips, and video recordings. RIP Vinny!
Vin Scully is God's greatest gift to sports broadcasting. Arguably, at the height of his popularity in the 80s when he was also the main baseball announcer for NBC, I was producing a local radio sports call-in show and tracked Vin down to the Dodger's road hotel in Atlanta to see if he'd be a phone guest on our sports talk show at some point. He answered on the bathroom phone while taking a shower --- he thought I was his son who he was expecting to call. I was young --- he could tell. He was extremely nice and asked if I could give him 20 minutes and call back. He did the show the next week...on the phone for at least 30 minutes taking calls from listeners, etc. All the people I "tracked down" over the years were not always nice. None were nicer to me than Mr. Scully who was at the top of his profession at a time when Pat Summerall, Keith Jackson, Dick Enberg were at the top of the heap. The ultimate class act and the very best baseball broadcaster who has ever lived.
How can anyone forget Vin's classic play-by-play at the trainwreck in NY when Boston's Don Buckner bobbled the ball that gave the Mets the win in 1984? Easily one of the top 10 broadcasts in sports history.
@@johnnada586 No difference. The other guys were on the same level in my estimation of it 4 years ago and now. We interviewed the other 3 as well. Summerall and Keith Jackson more than once. Jim McKay too. They were all great. All understood what it meant to help out a young guy coming up in a middle market as they had reached the pinnacle. A half dozen others who were just below them in success, I guess you could say, were not as friendly off the air. There must be some correlation
Visited Dodger stadium last year on holiday from Scotland....what an amazing stadium, loved the tour.....now a Dodgers fan........will be back 2022....!!
As a Mets fan It’s very special to listen to his call of Game 6 of the 1986 World Series announcing the famous “ Bill Buckner” incident with another baseball broadcasting legend Joe Garagiola. At the time in 1986 Vin was 57 years old and who would have thought he would still be broadcasting 30 years later. Thanks for the memories Vin in not only MLB but the NFL as well🙏❤️
The one disagreement I have with Vin is that bringing a transistor radio to the game was indeed a tribute to Vin. My first Dodgers game was in 1966 when I was 5 years old and my Dad & Uncle took me to see Koufax pitch (their way of babysitting). I noticed everybody had a transistor radio including my Dad & Uncle. I asked my Dad why everybody had a radio and he said: “So we can hear Vin Scully paint pictures with words that are better than what we can see with our eyes.”
Gosh. Even at a press conference with questions being fired at him, Vin the orator extraordinaire takes his time and tells stories which have everyone in the room and on TV riveted. Simply the greatest on-air personality I've ever heard. Miss him so much.
Many memories of Vin calling the game while i laid in bed with my baseball glove in between the mattress getting the leather worked in. God Bless Vin Scully. A true treasure I will forever miss.
I can remember the first time I heard Vin Scully's voice it was 3/31/98 and it was on TV but not in the way you might think it was in a video game didn't think much of it other than nice voice (his video game commentary was very basic until his last appearance in 05 it became a little more in-depth) and I said to myself I got to hear this guy more so I ordered the MLB extra innings package and from the first live broadcast I heard I was hooked and every year since I've ordered either MLB.tv or MLB extra innings his descriptive ability is one-of-a-kind (as a legally blind man I felt like I was in the seats at dodger Stadium) i've lost count of how many nights in the last 10 years or so I could put a Dodgers game on my computer turn the monitor off and still feel like I was watching every second of it here in Massachusetts he has made for a lot of late nights for me but I wouldn't have it any other way it is very sad that he's retiring but I wish him nothing but the best love that man
It wasn't the big moments, those were epic, but the late nights in the dog days of summer when I lie in bed as a kid and fell asleep listening to Vin...that is what I miss the most. Love You Vin
Growing up in Los Angeles in the 50s: sunshine, Disneyland, the Dodgers, Vin Scully on the radio, didn't have to work for a living: I didn't know how good I had it.
Vin -r God Bless you! You are the example of how to live life. Incredible. Had the awesome chance to see a ballgame at Parc Jarry in Montreal - so wonderful!
VIN.... IS DA ....MAN!! No one better at helping baseball fans...." LIVE" what we were hearing on da radio!! His CALM.... but... HIGH BASEBALL I.Q. inspired VOICE..... made US ( the LISTENER )... feel as though we were right there in the BROADCAST BOOTH sitting next to him!!
Huge thanks for sharing this. I was listening on the 10 on my way to the mountains and got sidetracked trying to help some people in a big accident. Got back in the car and it was over. Thought I'd never hear the whole thing. Right on!
Vin made my life better, thank you. It is the greedy Time Warner and Dodgers that I will never forgive for how they robbed me of a last few years of perfection.
There's an underlying general tone of disrespect (or maybe just ignorance) from most of these reporters which I do not care for. Vin, classy as usual, answers every question with respect.
What a consummate pro. I pray that I'm that sharp if I reach that age. Melodious voice and an anecdote for every question. I personally wish he had continued and "died" with his boots on. That said, enjoy your retirement with your family. Slán agus beannacht Uinsean!
When Vin was talking about Kirk Gibson I was thinking about a game with the Dodgers and Padres when he mentioned the word fertilizer when someone was cussing.
Joe Davis is replacing Vin??? The only one suited for that role was Charlie Steiner and Rick Monday with Kevin Kennedy taking over the radio. Vin is the voice of the Dodgers and Charlie is the radio voice of the dodgers. What a terrible mistake this organization has made. Not only did they ruin is for us with the Time Warner contract, but now they hire someone who, in my opinion, isn't the suitable choice.
If there were ever a time to let patience and optimism win out over pessimism and criticism, it's now. Here's a young man who is working hard trying to make his way in broadcasting and has now been offered his dream job. Sound familiar? Steiner and Monday and their decades of experience between them will now be the old hands in the booth, and Davis will be the "kid." Davis has a vastly different style than Vin, but who doesn't? He also belongs to the new generation of broadcaster, which is also vastly different not just than Vin's generation but than Monday's and Steiners, which makes sense because Davis isn't even 30 years old yet. Who knows how it will work out, but just imagine if no one had given young Vin Scully his chance to sit in the booth with one of the all-time greats and try his hand at it.
even though it was different ownership, I’ll never forgive the fact that Ross Porter got thrown out on his ass in the middle of the night after looong time loyalty in 2004. Steiner is well and good but he’s a bore, Porter had a unique voice despite being critiqued for giving out too many statistical facts, which if you look at today’s game decades later- it’s all based on spewing irrelevant statistics
Joe Davis does a great job. No one can ever replace Vin Scully. No one is expecting that. There will never be another Vin Scully. He is a talent for the ages.
one of the greatest, arguably the greatest, i hate it when people like vin "thank god" for their accomplishments, it cheapens their talent and commitment to something that was simply handed to them, in vin's case i don't think he's really that religious, i think it's just his way of being humble, of course he could have just said he's been incredibly lucky or very fortunate, but an invisible deity chose him? please, take credit for what you accomplished vin, you can afford it for all you've done for the game. of course, i'm pretty sure the game and people like me will always love the way you put the fan and the game ahead of your own accolades and simply gave us your vast knowledge of the game. a real class act and the game is better because of people like you.
I am a non-religious person also. Normally, when people cite God as their "leading light" I can smell hypocrisy from a mile away. But, of course, Vin was just as genuine with his relationship with the Catholic faith as he was with everything else in his life. If all Christians were exactly like Vin, heck, I'd probably be one too!
Vin Scully, thank you for pure greatness may u RIP 🙏🏼 🙏🏼😪😪
One of the best ever, great human being too.
There will never be another Vincent Edward Scully 🎙💙💖💔
He will be forever missed 😢 November 29, 1927 ~ August 2, 2022
HE DIED 😭
The best way to describe this great man is “All class all the time”
Vin Scully was a great man and a gift from God to all of us. May we all try to be like Vin everyday. As a Lifelong Dodger fan he filled my life with so many great memories. My Grandma listened on her little transistor radio to Vin. My Grandparents saw the Dodgers at the Colosseum in 1958
I'll always love you, Vin. Thank you, God, for blessing us w/Vin Scully!💕
I remember going to Dodger games with my dad and bringing our little baseball-shaped AM radio with us to hear Scully's calls. Will miss him!
that's adorable
I can sit hear and listen to the great Vin and practically see the games or whatever he talked about. I am so very grateful to have grown up listening to the very best, Vin Scully
As soon as i hear his voice i get teared eyes. 🥺
The man is truly a great basic person who loves life and baseball! We need more of this type of person in our society today!
Thank you Vin! Stay well !
"' The Greatest Dodger Ever ""
Yes sir!
I am grateful that the Big Dodger in the Sky gave unto us this talented, genuine, classy, honorable man that is Vin Scully.
When asked if people will miss him, Vinny replied, "They're going to miss me for a little while ... Just curious , what is the difference between "at the top of his profession " and " at the top of the heap " ?

Ooops...Bill Buckner
John Nada- it was 1986. But I get what you’re saying!

Thanks for posting this press conference. R.I.P. Mr. Scully, you were one of a kind!
Thank you Vin for blessing us dodger fans with your golden voice !!!!! Dodgers win for Vin all the way to the World Series !!!!!!!!
AND WIN THE DAMN THING!!!
Vin Scully is always a classy man, every minute. I miss his broadcasts so much that I watch these RUclips videos over and over. God bless you Vin.
THE GREATEST...NUFF SAID!

The best ever.my dad and I spent many memorable nights at the ballpark and we always had our transistors with us. Such precious memories

Sharp as a tack. R.I.P. Vin.
We Love You Vin
thanks for the memories
It just ain't the same game without you Vin. Dodgers fans will never forget you.
Thanks for posting. From a Tigers fan, and a fan of Ernie Harwell, Vin Scully and his spirit was the last bastion of baseball on the radio.

This guy's stories.....Wow
Alway thought Campanella & Vin were the hearts of the franchise. No 2 guys were more important.

who the fuck would dislike this video?
6:42 He's the G.O.A.T. and he still remained humble. God rest his beloved soul 🙏
Vin Scully is the greatest
Had to be weird talking to him in person. Must’ve felt like your TV transformed into a person and started talking to you
ALL OVER THE US /// WILL MISS HIM
I’m really gonna miss you vin
Vin is a legend
One of the great things about Vin was his intense focus on the game in front of him. He rarely wandered from that focus.
Absolutely the G.O.A.T OF ALL TIME 🎙R I P VINNY IT STILL HURTS

He speaks so passionately about his subject his face slowly becomes rosier ,just saying ,let it be remembered as well his co-ruler-wasChick Hern☺️
GOAT
Was at his last game at Att park. Special moment I'll be able to tell my son about. Nothing like baseball and the greats who made it great.
i wonder theyll create a movie about him, called "Vin"
He was 89 here but his voice was that of a 40 year old man .
I see there are 9 Thumbs Down ratings...seriously??
