Time stands still when the great Vin Scully starts talking, years after his passing and I find myself still listening to him as if he was still alive and well right now. Like I said before Vinny is greatness personified at the highest level
I drove Bob Costas from his house to this event & back home. I talked a lot of sports with him, including a conversation about Vin Scully. He also asked me about how the Dodgers were doing, since I told him I’m a Dodgers fan. So those of you who dislike Bob Costas, realize he’s a decent person. He talked to me a lot, and even greater importance, listened to what I had to say. And to top it off, he tipped me one hundred dollars. That rarely happens in my profession. Maybe 2 or 3 times a year. On a side note, I saw Bob Miller by my car, and got his attention. He came over to me and showed me the 2 LA Kings Stanley Cup rings he was wearing, and seemed so nice. Him and Bob Costas made my day very special.
I was in the business 25 years, and I never approached the talent nor level, although I did do pro ball for two seasons just not MLB, of VIN SCULLY..the best radio baseball play by play announcer ever, and one of the top 2 TV BASEBALL ANNOUNCERS of all-time..AL MICHAELS on ABC's MLB coverage will always be my favorite TV baseball guy, but I would put VIN SCULLY in no worse than 2nd place for NATIONAL TV baseball behind MICHAELS.. And, on RADIO it was not even close there was VIN SCULLY and then there is everyone else.. R.I.P...
growin up in LA late 6o's, 70's and 80's with Miller doin the Kings; Endberg doin the Rams and Angels; Chickie Baby Hearn doin the Lakers (and don't forget "Bowling for Dollars!"); and Vinnie with the Dodgers......what a gift....
Yeah I agree with you there was a period in LA I knowDick embers wasn’t with the Angels too long I wish it was with them longer but yeah being an LA sports fan we had the best announcers by far in the world we were so lucky to have them and the crown of all of them was Vin Scully
@@DS-xp4jb Yeah I forgot about Drysdale he was really really good with the angel and he died too early God bless Don Drysdale great pitcher and a great announcer
I can’t count how many Vin Scully videos I have watched today honoring the man, but to hear Mussburger, Michaels and Costas talk about Vin so reverentially is so fitting. While this tribute was eight years ago it might have well have been done this evening. I was born in LA in 1961 and the passing of Vin Scully is really a touchstone for me. RIP Vin❤️.
Vin Scully is and always will be the greatest. I am so glad I grew up in the 70s and Al and Bob along with Frank Gifford where my soundtrack of my time. Listening to NFL games narrated by these guys was amazing and I will never forget the miracle on ice call. All these great announcers have the same denominator that is the great Vincent E. Scully.
we who grew up in LA should consider ourselves so blessed to have had Scully, Hearn and Miller as our teams broadcasters over the decades. I know as a kid growing listening to these icons I took it all for granted that ALL broadcasters were all the same, but, w/age and retrospect, I know i was wrong and I/we were very very lucky to have had 3 of the greatest to have ever lived calling our LA games.
exactly right, I am a huge Lakers, Kings and Dodger fan, but I grew up in San Jose, fortunately I could get Dodger and Lakers games at night all the way in San Jose, dont know how I would have survived without them, a huge part of my childhood, seemingly some of favorite memories were listening to them
A true baseball icon. Many times I have pulled into the driveway and turned the car off and sat there and had to listen until Vin Scully finish his story. What a great story teller, baseball professor and a genuine class act! There will never be another one like him again!
Thank you for posting this Vin Scully tribute. He means so much to so many. What an amazing articulate group to so beautifully articulate their personal stories about Vinny. What a treasure!
it's funny one of my fondest memories of my dad was listening to Vin calling Dodger games on the radio as me my dad would sit in the garage and listen to it on his radio. Vin was so prevalent in my early years and my love for the game of baseball.
Total greats Al Michaels, Brent Musberger, Bob Miller along with Vin, and Bob Costas. Who can forget the Miracle on Ice? Me being an IU fan, Brent with "Indiana can win it" then the clincher " Smart takes the shot". I bet we can name at least one call from each. This is priceless.
Jack Buck and Hank Stram were so great that people would watch the game on tv and listen to their broadcast, and sometimes they would refer to what the viewers were seeing.
It is remarkable that A; Michael's can boast of being there from the very beginning of Vin Scully's broadcast career from his early days in Brooklyn to today....I always wanted to be a broadcaster too. My two favorites were Scully and Merle Harmon and Bob Uecker here in Milwaukee and Curt Gowdy I liked as well...and a NBA guy named Eddie Doucette.
Costas' story was epic, crossing the country with his dad. He briefly touched on the greatest TEAM of broadcasters ever... Harry Caray and Jack Buck on KMOX in St. Louis. Until the Dodgers and Giants moved west in 1958,. STL was the western most outpost of baseball in the country, and KMOX's 50 thousand clear channel red hot watts could be heard, at night, in approximately 40 states. In fact New York was one of those states, as Costas would attest to, in that he tried to, like a safecracker, pull in KMOX not only crossing the country with his dad, but also from his driveway on Long Island before ever embarking on that 5 day trip, probably from that same car.
I’ve always wondered when the broadcasting delay started in radio. People don’t listen to radios anymore at dodger stadium like they used to and I think it’s because the radio broadcast 20 seconds behind or something like that. Did that start after Janet Jackson’s debacle or was it some other time?
Man…. Michaels and Costas are such puds compared to old timers like Vin Scully and Chick Hearn. Michaels is so arrogant too. You just know behind the scenes he bullies anyone in his way around like Chris Berman. Just look how Michaels starts his testimonial here: “I’m a guy that’s heard Vin Scully announce more than anyone in this room”. Booooo!!!!! Making it all about himself to start his presentation. That’s ego right there. To me, Michaels never looked comfortable in front of a camera. Watch him announce a prime time NFL game: the moment the camera is turned on him, he shrivels up into this nervous, uncomfortable mess. A guy like Chris Collinsworth is five times more comfortable watching when the camera is on him than Al Michaels. By now, Michaels should be much better than that.
Maybe you could fill-in for MICHAELS a few innings/ quarters, and let him get his head together. In fact, as a former pro sports play by play guy, myself..I WOULD PAY GOOD MONEY TO SEE THAT.🤣 One more thing..does he owe you money?🤑

There will never be another Vincent Edward Scully 🎙💙💖💔
He will be forever missed 😢 November 29, 1927 ~ August 2, 2022

Don was excellent.

Amen to that!!!!

Not a Bob Costas fan but his story was off the charts beautiful.
You just can't say enough about Vin Scully! Thank you! Mic'22
that’s me and my brother we had the lights off radio blasted just listening to vin scully and the DODGERS
i didn't even have to hear vin's intro... "hi everybody, and a very pleasant good evening to you all." what a legend.
I remember Vin Scully on the NFL ON CBS in the booth with George Allen and Jim Brown back in the 70s

Damn what a lineup that night. All absolute legends.

Now that’s Greatness at the highest level
A great group of announcers.

Yeah I liked Costas' story too....I remember transistor radio's too

So special these great voices honoring the Greatest voice of them all! (I can do without Costas) but none the less Vin is the GOAT!
Wow. Costas is great. He will tell you...
I used to listen to Chuck Thompson under the covers.
Bob has two rings now. Sad that Chick isnt around...
Costas is making me mist up...
Chick Hearn was the best of Basketball. I just had to say that! Mic'22
Stanley Cup Champions 2012, 2014. #GKG
I hate Costas now since he wanted to inject politics into his broadcasts. Michaels and Musburger are legends!
vin scully chick Hearn ……..period
