As a kid growing up in the 1960's I spent many days and nights listening to Dodger games on the radio in Phoenix, long before we other sports teams here. I'll never forget the wonderful magic of listening to Vin calling the games and what a sense of being there at the game as his wonderful voice came over the airwaves. Those are priceless memories of a simpler and better time that I will never forget, and Vin will always be a part of them. I was never lucky enough to attend a Dodger game, but I was at every one.

Did you ever watch the Sunday night episodes of Mission Impossible on TV? I am a Born & Raised San Franciscan, whose favorite sportscaster was Lon Simmons. While I was NEVER a Dodger fan, I always thought Vin Scully was a great announcer. I remember watching M.I. one night, as a kid, and the background sound was that of a baseball game. It was Scully doing the call and I said to myself, "Hey, that's the guy from LA" and I thought how cool it was.

I grew up in Los Angeles listening to Vin Scully for nearly my entire life, sixty years. When he retired in 2016 I soon began to realize how privileged I was to hear him call Dodger games, the others are good but Vin Scully is the da Vinci of baseball broadcasters. Listening to his radio calls was like theater of the mind, he could bring you right down onto the field as if you were there watching the game in person. Nobody comes close to his gift of making the game come alive. I recall a day game years ago he was calling on radio, it was a real bright day and players were having a lot of trouble picking up the ball on pop-ups and fly balls. Later in the game after a number of dropped and misplaced balls Vin says “balls are dropping like rice at a wedding”, come on who says that. Also, something fans may not know or realize about Vin Scully is his incredibly deep knowledge of the game. I played baseball as a young boy and followed the game closely as an adult however, I learned more about the game of baseball listening to Vin Scully than from any coach, player, book, film or any other source about the game...he is immensely knowledgeable of the macro and micro aspects of baseball. He would often refer to the "game within the game", the time when a pitcher needs to watch and keep a runner on base and from advancing while also needing to make the pitches to get the batter out. Vin Scully educated and enlightened me about baseball to a level that causes me to appreciate the game today in ways that I don't think I could had it not been for him. Thank you Vin Scully, I am forever grateful for your contribution and love of the game of baseball.

Vin Scully, was Dodger blue, and multi sportscaster. He was first and foremost the voice of "The Dodgers", no one can ever replace him or his voice.

I can remember the first time I heard Vin Scully's voice it was 3/31/98 and it was on TV but not in the way you might think it was in a video game didn't think much of it other than nice voice (his video game commentary was very basic until his last appearance in 05 it became a little more in-depth) and I said to myself I got to hear this guy more so I ordered the MLB extra innings package and from the first live broadcast I heard I was hooked and every year since I've ordered either MLB.tv or MLB extra innings his descriptive ability is one-of-a-kind (as a legally blind man I felt like I was in the seats at dodger Stadium) i've lost count of how many nights in the last 10 years or so I could put a Dodgers game on my computer turn the monitor off and still feel like I was watching every second of it here in Massachusetts he has made for a lot of late nights for me but I wouldn't have it any other way it is very sad that he's retiring but I wish him nothing but the best

In my humble opinion, baseball announcers should live forever.
Having lived in different states,Illinois,New York,Pennsylvania,I had the great fortune to listen to Jack Brickhouse of the Cubbies,Lloyd Petit of the Blackhawks,Phil Rizzuto and John Sterling of the Yankees,Marv Albert of the Knicks, and Harry Kalas n Whitey Asbourne of the Phillies and Gene Hart of the Flyers.
When they are no longer calling the games thats when you really miss them.
God should let them live forever.

You called my name in my imaginary game ...as I stood for a moment and knocked the clay from my cleats...
Eric Underwood Class of 81 Downey High school CA...
Of course it was two out bases loaded and down by 3.
Batter up! God bless you Vin Scully...
You knocked it out of the park!

We are losing these great men too frequently now. My own father will be 93 in a couple of weeks and I wonder who will step up for the love of the game? Who will be honored by the youth of today, having given them a positive escape from the insanity of the world today? Rest in peace Vin Skully.

Sic years and more....and I still cry for this entire speech. The only celebrity I've ever cried for or ever will. The voice of all my summers since I was a little boy. I grew up, times changed, people came and went out of my life, children born, love ones lost. And Vin was always there. A constant, something true and genuine. I miss him.

Even in school during the postseason, the PE teacher would come on the intercom with the score. (Dodgers 2 Cardinals 1- before Clark ended the 85 NLCS). Those days were fun. Listening to Vin, Ross Porter, and Jerry Doggett on KTTV-11 back in the day.
