  • Hello and welcome back to another adventure, before I start I just want to wish all my viewers a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! I hope every one is being blessed with love and joy this season and many more years to come.
So on this episode, we decided to go explore the great Toiyabe National Forest to go see the Barney Riley Hot Springs. There’s a few way to enter from depending on which terrain you choose. I highly suggest getting a OnX Off Road app to help you navigate the trail as to there’s so many turn out to be made. The hot spring wasn’t too hot, at least the one we were in which is the farthest one from the source. Definitely worth the drive coming all the way from Sacramento which is about a total of 3.5 hours drive including trail time. Hopefully yaw will enjoy some of these cinematic drone shot I made. My awesome wife got me a drone for Christmas so more cinematic clips to come. So please don’t forget to hit that like and subscribe button if you haven’t already. Till next time, keep wheeling and take care!

Yes can be challenging depending on which route you take and depending on the season.

Over the years I have did this trail a half dozen times in my 04 Tundra. Coming in from HWY 89 over Monitor pass from Markleeville. This is going downhill to the Carson river. A pretty much stock truck but doable. Recently there has been a forest fire and severe runoff/flooding. It all has changed.

Cool video 👍🏻 But I think you’re supposed to keep your head above water when bathing in hot springs. Pretty sure we have to deal with the brain eating amebas. I think a baby died last year in Nevada.

Thanks and I appreciate you for your concerns, will have to keep that in mind next time. Thankfully nothing happened but I can see that being a danger if it was to happen.

There actually is a route out on the north side of the river if you go up that canyon above the hot springs. Actually many routes out. Following the Carson river downstream on the south side. There is a switch back hill climb up to the top of the ridge that leads you back out to 395.

Yes there’s many route to choose from. I find it very helpful to use the OnX off road app to help navigate through these trails. First time we came in from 395 and that was a long drive. This time I came from 89 off airport road and it’s much quicker. Only thing is from airport road you going through a lot of steep incline and decline. Not recommended when wet or slippery.
