I've honestly never played this one but I played TDU. It was one of the best racing games I've ever played because I felt like I was actually earning my cars rather than just unlocking them. And the fact that I had to buy more homes just to store them made the racist much more important, even if it was something so simple. And then you add that on to the vast amount of cars they had and the enormous map that was an entire island of hawaii. Timeless game. Even though the crew would have the entire us map, something still is missing from it and I don't know what it is exactly. But no other racing game has really matched that open World style for me

@@TheFurryInShambles While I absolutely agree, that the driving model is definitely better and more satisfying in Solar Crown, I think it would be sensible to expect a TDU game to finally have a proper launch after 11 years, instead of them shooting themselves in the foot yet again. Back then I would think that maybe the player influx was unexpected, the server costs would be too high to risk allocating lots of them for launch day and so on - now it's just unacceptable with how the tech evolved and how much more money corporations have now. I really hope that TDU:SC will have it's redemption arc before it will get proclaimed dead or before it loses most of the players ☹

I started replaying TDU2 again like a few days ago. I got the unofficial patch mod that fixes a lot of the bugs and adds a bunch of new cars.
The one and only inescapable bug I have is the very well documented map freezing bug. It's due to the game's rendering conflicting with newer gen graphics cards. There is a solution mod but I've read that it can reduce performance. What I've opted to do instead is to use the hotkey combo to reboot the rendering and that fixes it for a while and I don't have to close the game at all.
Now with that whole yap sesh out of the way I genuinely fell in love with this game all over again. I used to play on hardcore but this time I stayed on full assist and that combined with the handling tweaks from the unofficial patch makes for a really fun driving experience. Just today I was driving a Subaru WRX on some dirt roads on the upper part of Ibiza and that was honestly the most fun I've had in a racing game in like years.
And that is not for lack of trying, I played a bit of motorfest and unbound but the progression in those games and just other racing games after like 2010-15 in general (bar nfs heat and 2015) has never kept me interested for longer than like 2-4 hours. But when I play TDU2, or TDU1 for that matter, I can just sit there playing for hours banging out championship after championship or grinding to get that next supercar.
I remember back when TDUsc was announced and I was super excited waiting for years to finally have a full TDU experience (I never got to play TDU2 online). But they completely missed the mark in my opinion and I'm genuinely kinda pissed at them.
I was expecting a TDU2 with a different shinier map and what we got is more like island forza horizon if the car list was abysmal, with no houses, dealerships that look like futuristic space station hubs and tuning shops got consolidated into just another hub and clothing stores just missed the vibe as well. From what little I played of the demo the leveling and progression felt awful and the fact that cars are locked to levels is so bad. And what is up with the pricing? The handling was ok (coming from TDU2) and the map looks great, the cars have very high detail. But that's about all I can give it. It feels like a glorified tech demo to show off some high detail cars and grass.
I completely forgot to talk about the season pass. WHY THE FUCK IS THERE ONE?! Who decided racing games needed a season pass? Keep it for shitty FPS games. That shit feels empty and super out of place in a racing game. Like cool I got a sticker or rim or some clothing item or a fucking emote that you removed from the main list just so you could put it in the pass. Utter fucking bullshit. And all that just to have a mediocre undesirable car at the end.
I feel like this is why a lot of people (myself included) loved NFS Heat so much. It kept things simple in a genre plagued by these shitty systems. Maybe killing it's support early was a blessing in disguise?

Damn ok I went on one hell of a yap session (yap journey) there. I'm just dissatisfied with the racing game genre in general. You know it's bad when I have to play at minimum a five year old game (usually 10-20 atp) to have any fun.

No matter what others say here in the comments. I think TDU 1 and 2 are just as much fun today as they used to be. Sure, the handling takes a bit of getting used to. But you figure that out after a few races. But in terms of gameplay, the old TDU games are still some of the best games I have ever played.

I remember playing TDU1 and hating so much the racing part that I ended just cruising for hours instead of racing. It was ground breaking to have a virtual vacation in a game.
However, TDU2 never got me that much because the novelty wore off and the cringe NPCs, bad physics and bugs were too much to tolerate at this point.

I really, really loved this game. Unconditionally. I could never play it online or purchase the DLCs and I got it when the servers were already down. All that love aside, I hated the handling of some of the cars as they just spun out of control. The social aspect of the game and the incentive of trying to be a social character in this game always appealed to me and I can see how Forza Horizon and The Crew games were trying to sort of emulate that feeling.

Hello racing fans, I just felt like giving a short review of Test Drive Solar Crown:
I enjoy the game for what it is. The vehicles are beautifully modeled, the maps are large and full of life, and the graphics are awesome too. The sense of speed is also fantastic - try racing down the highways of HK or waterfront of Ibiza!
I also enjoy the return of FRIM and walking around - the latter provides you with the opportunity to interact with other players.
In conclusion, Solar Crown obviously isn’t perfect, although it should prove to be a worthy addition to your collection as well as a nostalgic thrill ride. Grab it perhaps on sale and enjoy the ride.

You see TDU too much as a racing game rather than a "lifestyle" game and satyrical of the golden youth of the early 2000's
And most problems you had were related to your hardware, it was very nice and smooth on PC

I would drive my red TTs Roadstar on the coast and just drive slowly. I would wait until sunset put on Hariba Radio and just chill. Then my friend would come on and we would go on wee road trips. We would go to The Casino. Then race together. Made friends with this random man from Finland. Then my pals charecter got plastic surgery and since the game makes your face all wrapped I took photos of him and put them in every slot in my in game house. I know thus games not perfect. But this game was just so freeing to me back in the days. Just mostly because me and that friend don't speak to eachother anymore. Just grew apart.

As someone who grew up with TDU 2 and is still playing it to this day, i can understand where you are coming from. This game is far from perfect, but it achieved some things that new games still can't, it was ahead of it's time.
I think it's very important to call this game a driving game rather than a racing game. Yes, racing was part of it, but it wasn't the focus. Even then, the variety in races was cool - speed traps, speed challenges in addition to the usual races and time trials mixed things up. Only the eliminator was quite boring and repetitive.
Plus the side quests are kinda fun and casual, you can't take them too seriously (like the story). Also, stalking that car falls under the bro code since his gf is cheating on him xD
I think you missed out a bit on the progression and how rewarding it is. It really needs some time until you can afford a super car for example, and it feels that much more rewarding when you get your dream car. The same can be said for houses, there is just nothing like buying the Yacht after you completed the story line (cause most likely only then can you afford it) or a villa in the mountains.
Your experience was compromised by the lack of online functionality, with PC online mods (as you mentioned) like Project Paradise 2 you can do multiplayer races, use the casino, join clubs, use the Community Racing Centre to upload and drive custom player races, invite others to your house, be a passenger in someone else's car, and most importantly, cruise on a huge map with up to 8 players at the same time - which is honestly the best thing you can do in this game. Sounds boring, but there is nothing like it.
Not to forget that you can open and close your roof, windows and use turn signals which is especially nice when cruising.
Also, how dare you not mention the car wash xD
In summary, maybe you'll get to try out the game online on PC. It's still quite active and getting 20-30 players per day.

Worst part of it the introduction of offroads. TDU 1 was about long drives. In this game when you decide to start from north Oahu with you Ferrari, setting your gps to south Oahu, it will take you through dirt roads to get there. And guess what? All the asphalt vehicles speed ia maxed out about 50 60 mph. So on most of your journey you will slug around. It will always baffle me how could they implemented that idea so horribly...

It was a good nostalgia trip. But the shaky camera gave me motion sickness. Definitely did not hit as hard as when I first played it.
