I was at Le Parc de Sceaux for that Great Concert with Nick Lowe opening, than came Van Morrison, Santana and Bob Dylan with The Great Mick Taylor on lead guitar. French singer Hughes Auffray was invited by Bob at the end ! I took some photos of the Show !
Thanks so much, Bjørn - a brilliant, but much under-rated ( unknown?) Bob Dylan song, with the legendary Mick Taylor (one of my hero John Mayall's greatest protégé) contributing his unique brand of strumming. Not only that, but unbelievably, (the late great) Ian McLagan on keyboards too - when Small Faces were my favourite band prior to John Mayall. An absolute treat. Never knew these guys played with Bob Dylan. Mind-blowing.
As a Christian and Bob Dylan lover, this takes me into strong intercession for him. Oh how He Loves you Bob. a you hear that voice calling I understand completely, I can never get to far out that He doesn't call.. ❤
Thankyou, .thankyou, thankyou Bjørn. Wondrous music! Magnificent Bob. I saw one gig on this tour, I was at Wembley Stadium in London. Mick Taylor's guitar solo... WOW! ......................... ■Bob Dylan (vocal & guitar) ■Mick Taylor (guitar) ■Ian McLagan (keyboards) ■Greg Sutton (bass) ■Colin Allen (drums) PS: ■ Carlos Santana (guitar) played for Bob on the finales of each performance.
This may be the best version of this song. No longer a waltz, it rocks. Should've been included on Real Live, the album that documented this tour. Classic Stones meets Dylan!
This is truly an amazing cut. Bob has played with more great musicians over the years than most people probably know. Always recreating his sound with the finest musicians in the world. Thanks much for this.
"Every Grain Of Sand" bob dylan In the time of my confession, in the hour of my deepest need When the pool of tears beneath my feet flood every newborn seed There's a dying voice within me reaching out somewhere Toiling in the danger and in the morals of despair. Don't have the inclination to look back on any mistake Like Cain, I now behold this chain of events that I must break In the fury of the moment I can see the master's hand In every leaf that trembles, in every grain of sand. Oh, the flowers of indulgence and the weeds of yesteryear Like criminals, they have choked the breath of conscience and good cheer The sun beat down upon the steps of time to light the way To ease the pain of idleness and the memory of decay. I gaze into the doorway of temptation's angry flame And every time I pass that way I always hear my name Then onward in my journey I come to understand That every hair is numbered like every grain of sand. I have gone from rags to riches in the sorrow of the night In the violence of a summer's dream, in the chill of a wintry light In the bitter dance of loneliness fading into space In the broken mirror of innocence on each forgotten face. I hear the ancient footsteps like the motion of the sea Sometimes I turn, there's someone there, other time it's only me I am hanging in the balance of the reality of man Like every sparrow falling, like every grain of sand.
''There are artists Who can wrest us up & place us into themselves; Into their work. These are the One's Who Continue to wrest us up... Even beyond their Appointed rests in peace.'' -gilpin 12919
This, like the version on the official Bootleg series box set 1-3, is in 4/4 time as opposed to the 3/4 time of the actual released version, and it fits the melody of the vocal line so much better. If you haven't heard that version it's worth seeking out, it sounds very relaxed and sincere, and you can hear the sound of a dog barking in the distance at one point. Real down-home style.

Who can explain it? The lyrics is nothing more than a stupid vicars' sunday preach, music is rather simple, but altogether it rips my flesh and makes me weep. Bob, you are a genius!
That Vicar got himself a Nobel or something for writing like that ? This is about his own revelation about his role and duty on earth which he talks about in an interview and in his bio.
Marcin Dąbrowski I see it as the struggles that we all encounter throughout life. When one awakens to the reality of our part in the plan we are able to put things into perspective. We all awaken at different times and unfortunate some don't at all.
Lame and ultimately pointless though it may have been, Dylan's "born again" phase is made worthwhile by this song alone. One of the greatest modern American poets, and this is a good example of why.
recognition of god is lame and pointless? and yet great American poetry isn't? no matter how bad the former or how good the latter, it is god's hand which rules, not poetry's .... (Dylan knows) ...
'Slow Train' was decent, but 'Saved' was possibly the worst album ever recorded by an artist of Dylan's caliber. 'Shot of Love' was just bland, not terrible, IMO.
Jimmy Calhoun saved had a lot more good songs than shot of love covenant woman is superb & what can i do for you features the best recorded harmonica solo's by bob dylan
Love Mick's addition on this song. It even seems to energize Bob's vocals as the song progresses.
Mick Taylor on fire!!!
Whoa! Mick Taylor sounding like himself circa Rolling Stones '68-'73!!!!!!!!!!
I was at Le Parc de Sceaux for that Great Concert with Nick Lowe opening, than came Van Morrison, Santana and Bob Dylan with The Great Mick Taylor on lead guitar. French singer Hughes Auffray was invited by Bob at the end !

I was at this concert - outside of Paris -back stage passes -
I thought I was in heaven. Will never forget it, a true highlight in my life.
This is an outstanding, soulful vocal by Bob and lead guitar by Mick Taylor...thank you !

An absolute treat. Never knew these guys played with Bob Dylan. Mind-blowing.
This is history of rock'n'roll ... and it must be in all schools since 3-4 years old .
As a Christian and Bob Dylan lover, this takes me into strong intercession for him. Oh how He Loves you Bob. a you hear that voice calling I understand completely, I can never get to far out that He doesn't call.. ❤

You`re welcome :)
Mick t puts a lil "winter" riff in there....
Ian McLagen!!!!! Keyboards!
Small Faces, a band before their time. RIP, Ian McLagan. Thanks for pointing this out Craig.
I saw the Wembley concert on this tour, too. I don't remember Mick Taylor playing with him, though.
he's been his lead guitarist on the whole 1984 tour
Bill Goldman Yes, it was Mick Taylor, although Carlos Santana guested on many tracks on that date.
@@ApocalypseKurtz Charlie Suntana. Built his career on Peter Green plus assorted unnecessary percussion.
I YOULOVE
I never understand why Mick Tailor loose his time whith the Stones.Aniway he's a brilluant guitarrist. Abaut Dylan all is said yet. Wonderful.
cuz the Stones are garage band hackers, and Taylor is a great.
Stop to try boy, it's too dangeroos for your brain
Wallflower Bob Dylan

a shot of love sucked but except fro this song but slow train comin' & saved were 2 great albums, doesn't take a christian to see that
