His harmonica solo is beyond redemption, because it is sublime.
These lyrics are so moving. And not only does Dylan have the bravery to address what many folk are afraid to talk about, he is also brave enough to address what they are afraid to think.
Beautiful.....your getting Dylan....nice to watch!
Thank you for DYLAN!!!
Long Live Bob Dylan
I’m a life long Dylan fan and I love your channel / show. To watch someone hear these songs for the first time is a lot of fun, and then there’s your commentary. Fantastic, keep up the great work.
You nailed it; Bob is the best to ever do it, end of story.
One of his best lyrics ever! Written in one sittit with nothing being changed afterwards.
One of the best songs ever!
This could be possibly one of the most beautiful songs I've heard.
This song is so beautiful it's almost painful....It is a modern hymn.
Written in 1980-1981 time Period
Possibly the most profound use of scripture that relates to all of our everyday life's experience
Bob Dylans first signing to a record company was at Columbia as a harmonica player using the name "Blind boy Grunt".
Fantastic song 👌
A stunningly beautiful spiritual song, it is one of Dylan's best, and rings deep and true in every note.
Quite possibly a perfect recording and a perfect song. The reality of man and the reality of God. Amazing stuff!
All time greatest
I’ve been with Bob Dylan since 63 the first time I heard chimes of freedom I froze ,I could not believe a young guy could write stuff like that!
You get it, my man! Enjoy exploring the huge planet of Bob Dylan!!!
Tangled up in blue - Bob Dylan
Any list you see of the greatest songwriters, go to number one and Bob Dylan's name is there. You can take it to the bank.
Bob Dylan has been with me thru my life since the 60’s, his words have accompanied me thru the toughest and most joyful parts. LONG LIVE Bob Dylan….. Thank you
I enjoyed your commentary. Dylan is a special person, a special writer and a special singer. He is the best.
Great to see you vibing out to the harmonica solo,.. Awsome eh.. Perhaps as well as Bob has ever played the mouth piece
Listen to any Dylan song and come away amazed....in the late 1970s I thought I was the only young guy that liked him, most of my 17 year old friends were into disco. Anyway I knew he was a radical and a genius right away. Listen to song..."everything is broken"
A most Beautiful Song..
One of the greatest songs ever wrote… period.
And personally I feel his best harmonica.
Deeeeep, deep stuff.
How does he do it just pull amazing lyrics and amazing verses out no where, time and time again
First time to hear this...one of his very best, perhaps THE very best. Thank you for exposing our awareness to this piece. True poetry, his imagery is exquisite. He's such an empath in his writing; I can understand his behavior in person to person venue. He needs to protect that vulnerable soft heart.
Deep? This somg and some of his others are why he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature. Well done.
Your face said it all with this song. There are several gems among his Christian albums, but this is my favorite from that era. I've always loved the “temptations angry flame” line. I’m happy you noticed it. Speaks to something that is universal to every human that has ever lived.
A great line. My favourite is “I am hanging in the balance of the reality of man”.
Not a Christian song, a disguised jumble of sensitive, emotional sounding, confusing lyrics that neive born again's fell for and called Christian. No Christian message here; from the man who said he belonged to "the church of the poisoned mind".
Like every Sparrow falling
@@stephenbiggins9114 the bride of Christ has a desperate need to free God from the box of her theology -the word of God is not the Black ink on the white page that is what we call scripture - the Word of God is Spirit -the spirit spoke the word to Moses and the prophets - in my humble opinion scholars and theologians have a carnal understanding of scripture - this is why the Apostle John says we have all been given the spirit of Truth you need no man to teach you - it is why pull tools the former pig and Idol worshipers in Corinth that they had received the spirit which knows the mind of God and they had the mind of Christ which is to know the things that God gives FREELY - it is why Jesus said call no man Rabbi or teacher cuz you all have one teacher he was referring to the Spirit - Jesus who is the Eternal Word said the flesh profits nothing my word is spirit my word is life
Love your reactions and how you appreciate the lyrics!
Such a beautiful song
One of my faves TY
I had to smile at your enjoyment of listening to this song which matches my feelings about it, too. I remember, vaguely, of Mr. Dylan mentioning some people didn't think he should play the harmonica. People without souls, I imagine. I am not a religious person but I feel religious when I hear this song. And I am so grateful to the world for recognizing his greatness for which he has received every award that can be given to him BEFORE his death so he knows the love of the whole world.
He is a spirtual man.
The title song "Shot of Love" is more significant now more than ever. THANK YOU!
One of the greatest lyrical compositions of all time.
he is the best of all time period
Wilburn you know your music. Love your videos
The very old name for a harmonica was "Mouth Organ"
best Dylan reactions on RUclips.
Masterpiece
Emmy Lou Harris covered this song beautifully. Well worth a listen. And Dylan's "Most of the Time" is an amazing love song and also worth a listen. Thanks.
I would love to see him react to the Emmy Lou Harris version too
Liz Wright does a good cover too of every grain of sand
DYLAN is a great singer one of the best, his voice in Lay Lady Lay, the first time I heard it, wow blew me away
Dylan caught grief when he went electric. Then he caught grief for going gospel. People wanted to hear the hit songs from yesteryear. They were not thrilled to hear these new christian songs. But he continued to forge his own path and endure.
I'll suggest 'Forever Young'. Beautiful music and thought provoking lyrics.
Forever Young and Baby Let Me Follow You Down from The Last Waltz
The harmonica is called a mouth organ for a reason…
I have this album but I had almost forgotten about this song. I don't even know what to say. It never sounded better. And the harmonica - Whoa! Like you, I was blown away by it. If you'd like to hear Dylan doing country songs listen to something off his "Nashville Skyline" album. And I would also like to highly recommend "Brownsville Girl" and "Moonlight". You seem to be as impressed with Dylan as I was some 50 years ago and continue to be. Great reaction.
Brownsville girl is OK. But listen to Danville girl it's a better version before it was over produced it's raw a beautiful masterpiece
Brownsville Girl was my favorite song for about 3 years. Your reaction to Bob's lyrics is precious.
Beautiful song! I was blessed to have seen Dylan duet with Patti Smith on this track at the Electric Factory in Philly back in December of '95. Goosebumps!
Interesting your correlation between the organ and the harp: I have heard it called the "mouth organ" by some much older, city-based blues musicians I've run into many years ago.
I was at that show too. Amazing.
It was Dark Eyes that you saw him duet on with Patti.
@@kingoftheseamusic that's right! My bad!
LOVE HIS GOSPEL SONGS,,SO HEARTFELT AND RAW,,,
I saw him preform this in April 2022 it was so beautiful
Hey Wilburn..have ya ever caught a Dylan show live..
It calm me listening this song like talking to god
Cool review. Dont hear this one much. A great older song of his is 'Boots of Spanish Leather'
This song has always been one of my favourites. the beauty of the lyrics are sublime, its like they are ministering to your soul, but for me its the Harmonica. The lyrics bring you to your knees, but the Harmonica Prays your Prayer with you and cries your tears.
Yes, that is exactly what is does. Beautiful comment.
To me this song has always had a gospel vibe to it I have told my closest friends and family that I want this song played when they are laying me to rest, but on a Lighter side you should do Tangled Up In Blues next and Its Not Dark Yet is another must listen
Me too
Beautiful song
harmonica also known as the mouth organ
Check out “When He Returns” and “Precious Angel” from the Slow Train Coming Album
the first song i learned on guitar
This is one of his lesser known albums with two of my favourite Dylan songs on it - ‘Property of Jesus’ and the bluesy ‘Trouble’. But I had almost forgotten this track! thanks for reminding me and for all you are doing in the Dylan space.
i beg you to keep going!! this man,i tell you,i used to not like his music or voice, but as i grew older and lived a life,he hits home man!!
This song is going to be played at my funeral - not too soon, hopefully.
My favorite Bob Dylan song from his "Christian period". Unbelievably beautiful. The lines: "I hear the ancient footsteps/ like the motion of the sea/ sometimes I turn there's someone there/ other times its only me.... Wow. In those few lines Dylan poetically describes to perfection the way God appears to come and go in our lives, but in reality never leaves us.
I'm guessing somebody has probably told you this already that he won the 2016 Nobel prize for literature for his music. Amazing stuff overall and specifically Every Grain of Sand.
On his "Gospel according to Dylan" Albums, check out "when he Returns" off Slow train coming album
"Changing of the Guards'' and ''Ain't Gonna Go to Hell for Anybody" from this Gospel era are at the top of my list also....
Nice choice. It's nice to see such a great song be appreciated. Thanks
Ring Them Bells and Precious Angel are great companions to this song
I’ve listened to him forever. This song , along with Beautiful Boy, so often bring me to tears. Perfectly recorded n sung. Divine harmonica!
U might like his recording of Pretty Boy Floyd he did on Folkways’ Woody Guthrie tribute album
MOST OF THE TIME.
Check out his 3 “Gospel Period” Albums - Slow Train Coming, Shot of Love and Saved .. lots of gems on these Records
"positively 4th street" one of my favorite bob dylan songs
"desolation row" as well
Thank you thank you thank you what a wonderful gift to wake up to this morning. I am very thankful to hear someone react to my favorite Bob Dylan song, you really plumbed the depths of the song in your reaction, AS you can see I was not wrong on this song and Dylan. I am also not wrong about Tom Waits and that is a new rabbit hole you need to go down, I think you are going to love him the way you are coming to love Dylan, Dylan is my favorite songwriter only Tom Waits is a close second to Bob. but in the present great great reaction and many thanks.
Dylan sung about real life experiences. That's why no two songs are alike. They are all varied. Not formula, not imitations of other songs.
I like that most of Dylan's Christian songs aren't trying to push you to believe what he does, they're just about his own experiences, or how he see's the world through his faith. A couple of other artists who have some really good original Christian songs are Carrie Underwood, and Amy Grant. This song's harmonica parts are the best I've ever heard. The lyrics, well that's just Bob Dylan being the master wordsmith throughout his career. The man only writes great songs.
The song "Most of the time" would be good for you to react to
Love it too! This song will play on my funeral. There is a bootleg version that he released which is really Good aswell. I really recommend it.
I've always said this song has the most beautiful harmonica solos ever done - especially the outro. "BlindBoyGrunt' - is one of the best harmonica players of all time -
Gorgeous.
I saw Dylan 3 times, once in 1980 I a small 5000 seat venue about 90% full, in the middle of his gospel period. He had 3 gospels singers come out first and it was thumping loud gospel lol and my friend and I and the girl I hadn’t seen since school and I were able to get seats 2 rows out about 15 feet from Dylan when he came out. He did his whole catalogue, never preached a word and his on core was a 3 song acoustic set of old songs. Had maybe 3 of his Christian songs. He was not overtly there to preach to anyone. He let his songs do the work. All 3 shows were different, all stunning, the last I saw was 1988 when he toured with Tom Petty…
The demo version of this song is also amazing.
I suspect if u were to hear Blind Willie McTell, you'd have your next favourite Dylan song
Completely agree. Blind Willie McTell would blow you away, Chod!
@@timpindar which is the better version though? The bootleg series 1 or the bootleg 16 one? I prefer the former personally. Its a great great epic song
@jim78 so do I. The Bootleg 1-3 version is magnificent!
Dylan knows human nature all too well
Check out the live version, it is even better. I find this "Christian conversion" part of Dylan's life the most regretful, but at least it produced some amazing music.
You obviously understand it at least about as well as anyone does. Thanks for reminding of this one.
Harmonica is also called 'mouth organ'
In the bitter dance of loneliness
If you really wanna hear Bob spit some lyrical rhymes. Read and listen to "its all right Ma" (I'm only bleeding) and look at how young he was.
He already has
I love this song as well. Some other great Dylan songs from the 80's - Jokerman (Bob doing Reggae!) Dark Eyes - One of his saddest songs, and Series Of Dreams - one of his most inspiring songs.
Lovely! If you wish to hear more great harmonica (not as soft, but still great) and lyrics by Bob, check out: Mr. Tambourine Man, Desolation Row or Love Minus Zero.
January has been a deep dive on Bob Dylan music. I've heard many songs from him that I haven't heard before. Have you ever thought of having an artist of the month?
Not much to add to what you and the other people who have commented have said other than thank you for sharing your exploration of Bob Dylan’s incredible art. It’s almost pointless to recommend a particular Dylan composition. Just grab his catalogue, close your eyes and choose something. You will not be disappointed.
Bob Christian day's ❤
Dude, if i could make any suggestion for you at all it would be the amazing live version of 'What can i do for you' by dylan. The video on youtube is titled 'What Can I Do For You Toronto 1980'. It's the best dylan live performance every recorded on video. It left me speechless so many times.
Vocally, this album ranks second from bottom in my Dylan collection (which is complete). Bulottom spot takes "Good as I been to you". That was the hardest vinyl for me to track down in the 90s. And I still can't stand it.
Dylan is such a good singer. But his vocals on these two albums give me the creeps.
Shot of Love is considered the last half of his 2 1/2 Christian albums. A lot of the imagery is biblically-based "Master's Hand," "Every hair is numbered," "Every Sparrow Falling" (Mat. 10:29-30), and "Every Grain of Sand" Psalm 139:18. Grains of Sand also refers to Gen. 22 when God promises Abraham his "descendants as numerous ... as the sand on the seashore." At this time Bob was exploring his Jewish heritage and his newfound faith in Christ. The 80s are considered the lowest point in his musical career. Many fans stopped going to his concerts when he started preaching the gospel on stage. Similar to his Folk to Rock transition in the 1960s footage with "Ballad of a Thin Man." Dylan also toured with a few Black Gospel Choir singers as his backup vocals.
☮️💜
Try spirit on the water
Blind Willie McTell. Mark Knopfler on guitar and Bob on piano.
I love your station because you don't play the same songs they do. Masters of War!
This song and recording is so perfect and awesome, I’m surprised Dylan included it on the album. (Dylan fans joke).
😂
How do I do a suggestion and support this wonderful soul who gets Dylan?
Bob Dylan & The Band - The Basement Tapes (The Legendary)" this is like a mini documentary. Very informative. Something you may find interesting.
"When I Get My Hands on You - Lyrics by Bob Dylan & Vocals by Marcus Mumford" this is a song from the basement tapes, in case you're interested. This song brings back nostalgic memories, my grandmother would play this song, when she was missing my grandfather. He was retired military.
