MANDARIN AND ALMOND SYRUP CAKE WITH A DARK CHOCOLATE GANACHE RECIPE
    Ingredients:
    400g unsalted butter
    760g caster sugar
    6 clementines
    Grated zest of lemon
    560g ground almonds
    10 medium free range eggs
    200g plain flour
    1. Preheat the oven to180C. Lightly grease a baking tin with a springform action.
    2. Place the butter and 600g of sugar into a mixing bowl and gently combine the ingredients until incorporated. Add the zest. Fold through the ground almonds.
    3. Add the eggs gradually as the machine is running scraping down the sides regularly. Add the flour and mix until all the ingredients are combined.
    4. Place the cake into the oven and bake for 50 minutes. Check with a skewer to make sure that it comes out clean.THis indicates that the cake is baked.
    5. Just before the cake comes out of the oven place the remaining sugar and juices of the lemon and orange into a saucepan and bring to the boil. After about 10 minutes remove the saucepan from the hob and brush the cake until all the syrup has absorbed into the cake.
    6. Leave the cake to cool completely before removing from the tin.
If you wish to make the cake even more special then ganache turns this into a showstopper!
    7. Put 250g of butter and 450g of good quality dark chocolate into a bowl with 2 1/4 tbsp of honey and a teaspoonful of cognac. Place the bowl over a saucepan of simmering water and allow the ingredients to melt. Do not allow any water into the bowl.
    8. Pour the ganache over the cooled cake and allow the icing to stand then garnish with edible flowers such as marigolds or nasturtiums.

RASPBERRY ROSE ANGEL DREAM CAKE RECIPE
    Ingredients:
    120g self raising flour
    250g of granulated sugar
    1/4 tsp of salt
12 egg whites at room temperature
1/4 tsp of cream of tartare
    2 tsps of vanilla extract
    2 tsps of rosewater
    1. Preheat the oven to 180C
    2. Sift the flour, half the sugar and salt and set aside.
    3. Whip the egg whites until foamy. Add 1 tablespoonful of water, cream of tartare and vanilla essence and whip into soft peaks. Add the remaining sugar a little at time until incorporated. Continue with another third and then the remainder of the flour.
    4. Transfer the batter into a 10 cup tube pan. Run a knife around the batter to rid the batter of any large air pockets and smooth over the top. Bake for 30-40 minutes or until the tester comes out with moist crumbs.
    5. Turn the pan upside down to cool.

Because the Brits are self depreciating, Americans are self projecting. Neither are right or wrong, just different cultures. The Brits pull all down, usually with humour - although not very funny, and in spite of many Brits admiring Americans more than they would like to admit. It’s complicated. Julie does a great job at embracing the differences.

There is absolutely nothing like afternoon tea. Not only is the food delicious, but it makes you feel so unbelievably special. Some years ago a new boss invited the department to afternoon tea at a rather smart hotel. We all felt that it was the best thing that had ever happened at work the day we got our invitation.
As it was at a smart hotel, we were looked after by a rather superior type of waiter, who nonetheless made us feel that we were, perhaps in the home of someone wealthy. It was a truly delightful experience.
However, glorious as the food was there, I've had afternoon tea in small tea rooms (a rather old fashioned idea these days), decidedly rundown cafes at garden centres, in the middle of a glorious rose garden, and many other places, and always the food has been sublime. There is something about the variety of finger food available that never disappoints. The gentle clink of a beautiful cup returned to its saucer. The smells from bowls of jam. Even the texture of the, as was said in the video, cheap white bread, goes to another level. Everything is a delight for the senses.
If you are creating a bucket list, then add afternoon tea to it (and don't eat lunch the day you have it, so that you can try everything!).

Important tapestry and oil paintings info.
    Hi Julie and family.❤️🌞
Beautiful, fabulous day here in Florida.
Tip #1. As you mentioned, it's very expensive to clean portraits and tapestries. We have cleaned a few pieces of tapestries. The best way to clean your tapestries is to work from top to bottom only in the direction it was woven. You should use only water, absolutely no cleaners. Use only white cotton rags like old white t-shirts cut into squares, dip in cool water. Once you start cleaning, continue cleaning and if you have to stop, mark with soft tape where you stopped with nail polish, so you know where you stopped and continue cleaning from top to bottom, the entire tapestry before you start the second cleaning, as you will have to clean until the white cotton rag looks clean. Do not go over the tapestry if the water is dirty, complete the first cleaning as the water will be very dirty. Do your cleaning where you have the tapestry so it can air dry and you see the difference as you go along cleaning. It's very important to continue until it's all done before you start the second cleaning and the third cleaning and the fourth cleaning, until the rag looks clean. Use cool water on the rag while cleaning and do not be tempted to put anything in the cool water while cleaning. Use a soft toothbrush for the details like the face expressions or any corners and keep dipping in the cool water to take the dust off. Use only cool water, never warm or hot water and you will have a brand new tapestry. When wiping, the pressure of your hand should be a soft wipe, not too gentle as you do want to take the dust off. Remember to stay in the direction of the way the portrait was woven. You can do the same procedure for oil paintings, but you do not want to use cool water, you want to use only baby oil and very gently clean the picture with a white cotton rag, like an old white t-shirt cut in squares and very little baby oil. It works great on antique furniture as well. You will be impressed of the result, not to mention it's beauty.
    🌹💐

We love to go back to England to visit our family there. I am totally charmed by the humble but so infectious energy exuded by Julie . You have definitely acquired the very English attitude of self-deprecation (in the best possible way) and therefore led us into a great new world of knowledge of the British way of life. William’s enthusiasm is unparalleled and I love it when people get so passionate about the reasons why and how things are done and in this instance, the restoration of Iford Manor. The afternoon tea ritual is an English experience everyone should partake, and what a pretty set up with the edible flowers, cheese and chive sandwiches and the ‘Angel’ cake! This made my day! Tut-tut Julie...where were the dessert forks for the angel cake? ;-) What an amazing restoration of that beautiful cloister building ~ I'm not surprised it achieved a major restoration award x

Beautiful job Julie! This was my favorite estate/garden visit to date - and what an amazing job they did on their (very technical) renovation!
The tea was just lovely. I love yuzus and using their juice and rinds. (They're an East Asian version of the lemon, but have a very elegant flavor... when you can get a hold of them.) For anyone not in England and wanting afternoon tea, the Ritz-Carlton's in the US (and around the world) offer a legendary afternoon tea with warm homemade scones, tea sandwiches, artisanal pastries, Devonshire cream, a seasonal fruit spread and of course, fine teas. (They even have a Teddy Bear tea area reserved for kids to bring their bear and have tea, along with their parents, or grand parents. It's very cute on the occasion kids are there all dressed up, behaving nicely, having teas with their Teddy bears.)...although the family and staff did a beautiful job preparing your tea!

What a beautiful place !! Having an afternoon tea there will be terrific & something to remember by for decades !! I know bakers do decorate cakes with flowers everywhere in the world ,but I freak ...as I don't want the pesticides in my foods ,or cakes !!! Like you ,I always choose edible & organic pansies to decorate salads 🥗& sandwiches, cakes whenever using flowers ! 👍💜🥁🐉🎵🎤🎶🍰🎂🥧🧁🫖🍵☕🌿🌺🌹💕💞

I'd like to say, I love your RUclips show much more than the Smithsonian show (though it was very good). Feels as we are experiencing a more personal and intimate tour. Also Julie, you seem much more relaxed and natural in this setting. I look forward to many more episodes.

It's A Wonderful Building to Restore. Typical Design of a "Roman House" 🏡. The Columns & Outside Corridors would provide shade from the Sun 🌞, and Day Light for the rooms of the House as there were No Outside Windows, the lack of Outside Windows provided more security for the occupants of the House. The sunken area would be for a Fountain⛲, a source of Fresh Water. In Rome there are many Aqueducts that carry water all around the City. One of the Major Aqueducts ends at the "Trevi Fountain" ⛲. 🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀

You are giving such a wonderful insight not just into these fantastic English homes but into the families that run them and showing the true struggles of maintaining such huge estates in a modern world. It's either figure out how to get the estate to work for itself or risk losing it to the financial distress just in regular maintenance and upkeep.
