I managed to beat you by a whole four months, having bought my first sailboat at the age of 59 and eight months. I now live on her full time with my dog Echo. This year we hope to reach Cuba.
You guys are AWESOME 🎉. Bloody well done !! I am 55, in far northern Sweden and have bought an Albin Vega, the 27ft little brother to yours. Been fixing her up for a year and a bit now in my front yard. So very glad to have found your channel !!
Well done Sean and Victoria! We moved from London to Cornwall when I was 62, and like you, bought a yacht and learnt to sail. Wonderful, a dream come true; looking forward to following your adventures. Great idea keeping the episodes short, very digestible; super editing, lovely music! ⛵️🍾❤️
Hello I am so glad I found you on RUclips I’m 65 in I am living full time in a caravan driving around but miss the sea so much, and thinking of a buying a sailboat, and now when I found your canal made me more sure to go for it happy sailing . 😊😊❤greating from Sweden
never too old. I started at 70. Bought a land based dried out clinker. while working on it to make it a single hander. I read books on sailing. Now on my 11 th boat.
Good for you guys!!! I just turned 70, and I just turned down a ridiculous amount of money for my boat…because I would not be “complete” without her. Enjoy every second of it!! Well done. You have discovered an ages old manner of transporting yourself that is pure magic.
Great job! We started sailing at 60 too, 8 years ago. Best thing we ever did. Utter madness, unexpected costs and consequences but all worth it. You have to have something challenging to absorb yourself with, in older ages. This does it for us too. Good luck!
Well done guys. May you both have safe and wonderful adventures together. I am 57 and just started sailing and loving it. I am looking forward to following your journey and starting my own. New subscriber…
Really inspirational guys. 55 next year and hoping to fulfill my dream of owning a sail boat of my own. I will be following your journey with interest. Happy sailing
Hello from Michigan, USA. Congratulations! I just found your channel and will be eagerly watching your adventures (subscribed). I'm an "early bloomer", learning to sail last summer at 59. I turn 60 next month. I purchased a restored 1964 Pearson Commander 26 which I sail single-handed. The experience has been extremely rewarding. Good luck and happy sailing.
Moved from London to the Midlands onto a narrow boat - 7 years later I'm thinking we might like to move to lumpy water - think I'm going to like this channel! 👍
Yes! I have so much planned for life and some of it will fully be happening from 60 and beyond! Go you for jumping in and inspiring others! At the moment i have only driven barges and powerboats, but sailing is coming one day!
FINALLY Someone whos like minded. I purchased a small 17ft boat to learn on. Then its off for a larger one to sail in the blue. Easy sailing dreams on my end mostly Bahamas.
Good luck to you! Bravely done👍 Beautiful swedish sailboat, one if the most successful. We also started sailing late in life and its a great thing to do as a couple.
That was a great vid n informative beginning.. even in the 1970’s up to mid 80’s so many new things to learn n experience.. I could just feel your inner thots n experiences. Nice share you two. Cheers 🥂 Nick
Cheering you both on from New Zealand! My husband is 65 and I’m almost 60. We live aboard our Hans Christian 33 and are planning on beginning our circumnavigation next year. Just loved seeing the thrill ( and fear!) in your eyes! I remember our first time leaving the dock for a wee motor on the bay too…exact same feelings! 😆 Go YOU! 🥳🥳
Greetings from the brit in california. Well you have one more person watching you now. I have been watching barry and tales of a old seadog from the very start. All the best to you both. cheers andy
Brilliant. I learned at past 50. One of the best things I ever did. Now my wife and I have Coastal Yachtmaster certificates. We sail bareboat monos and most usually catamarans with family and friends and love it. Don’t have my own boat yet but hope to at some point. It’s such a great feeling of freedom to be out there. Enjoy!
Very cool... I am 56 and aim to get a live aboard soon and spend the rest of my days sailing. I can already sail... but mainly racing dinghies. By 60 I hope to have made it to the South Pacific. My only comment... you are very brave to have gone for something without a sugar scoop... no way I am clambering up.
Great stuff for us “oldies” I admire your courage and enthusiasm early on in your boat ownership. Those shots of the sea and the cliffs, (or the crumbling cliffs, as I call them ) brings back many happy memories of my time around that area. I hope your adventures always bring you joy and happiness as you embark on your new way of life. I for one, am certainly looking forward to more videos from you, especially from someone who doesn’t have the courage and fortitude to do what you both are doing. Best wishes and fair winds to you both.
Sean, well done. If we wait for " the right time", sometimes it never comes. Granted, boats cost money. I have been sailing since I was 11 ( 1962) . I think for those with limited money, you star with a small boat, maybe an older coastal cruiser and see how that goes. Also, a great way to see if sailing is something you may like, a sailing club, that has boat for members to use. Good luck. jeff
Brilliant to find someone to follow in my age bracket. Just moved to the Lymington/ Christchurch area and hope to start sailing before the end of this year.
I'm 60 as well and I'm trying to do the same thing. It's something I've wanted for quite some time but it always stayed on the back burner for one reason or another. I guess I felt that I'd get to it eventually. A few blinks of an eye and suddenly I'm 60. In the meantime, I'll live vicariously through you and try to learn from you.
Well done well done! I started sailing more like when I was 6 than 60, but at 65 moved aboard full time, but my wife was 60 at that time, so we all made a huge change to our lives. Looking forward to watching you discover the joys of sailing. And some of the opposite! Best wishes.
Well done. Great looking boat. I am 63 and have a Challenger 36 mast head sloop here in Port Moresby. I race most weekends with the Royal Papua Yacht Club. Greatly admire you both for taking up this thing that has been part of my life since I was a small boy sailing P Class yachts in Wellington, New Zealand. I hope it all brings you much happiness and fulfilment. 🐟 😁
Just fabulously inspirational, thank you. We are a little older, and have sailed for a little longer, but you have really fired me up, thank you. The Albin Ballad is a great design...... I too will follow your experiences so have subscribed..........
Great first episode. My wife and I are of a similar age and bought our first boat (a 34' catamaran ) in 2021. We're based in the Solent. You're right about the steep learning curve but take it easy and you'll get there! Subscribed :)
Glad I found you, I will go along for the ride. I bought a boat at 60 as well and the last couple of years have been amazing! I'm wondering if you will repeat all of the mistakes I made. I sail on San Francisco Bay and the California coast on a Freedom 36. Cheers!
Did this last year in the pacific northwest at age 50, I've now owned a San Juan 24' for a year and a half about, I sailed as a teenager but I never was in charge of a sailboat, I've had small boats my whole life but no sailboat, my first voyage was across the puget sound to an overnight anchorage about 10 miles, my son and I sailed upwind on a near freezing march afternoon, anchored at a secluded bay over night, and came home the next day downwind. I've loved having it ever since, but no great voyages yet, just a bit of exploring around the San Juan Islands.
Looking forward to following your adventures. We purchased a 46 ft catamaran last year without knowledge at 53 and 54 years of age!! Yes, what were we thinking??? We have so much to learn too, but hope to sail from Australia to Europe in 4 years time. May see you on the water one day.
OMG - I love both of your enthusiasm! What a beautiful thing to do! I've been off and on boats my whole life - yet just this year I've started learning how to sail for myself. I've always loved being on the water - just the best. Many hopes and blessing for you two as the days go by!!!
Great episode sailing ⛵️ thanks for sharing amazing stories sailing ⛵️ Fear winds and good luck sailing. Greetings from tropical paradise island Kauai, Hawaii.
We need a community - I started at 64 by buying a 38’er and thought I was unique. It turns out there are loads of us, & we’re happy, enthralled & actually quite good at this thing called ‘sailing’.
So cool to see you getting going! We did the same thing in our state of Hawaii during COVID as well. Been out 30 times over the past couple of years and will sail the Hawaii Islands then head across the Pacific!! We started a bit younger than you guys at 55. Aloha Marshall and Carol
Very cool. I'm in my mid 50's and looking at boats right now. Taking my classes this summer and I hope to have one before next summer. Congrats to you two!
Gray choice. Sailing is a great activity for us seniors. It’s a great physical as well as mental activity. I applaud your decision and efforts Thanks for sharing
Well done guys, you have picked a great boat and she will look after you. So lovely to see your enthusiasm and your wife’s obvious excitement. Lots of great FB groups to help with any problems a d probably one for the Albin Ballard. Fair winds and I’m subbed now so will look forward to following your adventures. I’ve been sailing for many years and now own a Rival 32 in Chichester. Andy UK
Hello , we did the same in 2019, me never had set foot on a sailboat. Two years later 2021 we sold our house and a lot of other stuff, sailed from the northern archipilago Öregrund and enter the Med in March 2022. Here we are going to be for another couple of years and then we will see. We have no regrets not even when it is not great and a lot of work. The lovely moments makes up for it all. Be safe and fair winds.
Bravo! I have been sailing on and off for 30 years but never had my own boat or any consistency to build up cruising skills. I turn 60 in August and my early birthday present was a week long sailing school to get my coastal cruising/bareboat chartering certifications. We may try chartering and boat share clubs first before buying. For me the sailing part is easy, it is the DIY maintenance and mechanical systems work that is scary! Ok docking can be scary too. Worth practicing docking and picking up a mooring ball as you noted. I have subscribed and will follow along.
Welcome to the sailing family! It does not matter how long you have sailed, 50 odd years in my case, you will always be able to have a new "learning experience" invariably in front of an audience. Don't be afraid to ask questions then remember to evaluate the replies until they make sense for the way you work.
Good for you two. I love the lines on that boat. I have a vega 27. I hope your backs better than the 27. What dinghy and e propulsion did you get. Thank you im following at 66yrs old. Thank you

Putting our first boat in the water next Monday, Im 69 and 'bricking it' to be honest. We plan a week's shake down cruise then a 150nm trip from her current location where we bought her to her new moorings in Chichester Harbour. it brings to mind the saying "so much to do, so little time"
I managed to beat you by a whole four months, having bought my first sailboat at the age of 59 and eight months.
I now live on her full time with my dog Echo.
This year we hope to reach Cuba.
Watching this at 34 with awe. Love the documentary style so much more than the “influencer” style that’s much more common. Instantly subscribed!
I've just retired at 70 and one of the many things I'm planning to do; is to try sailing . I'll be following your journey for sure.
Passed my Day Skipper this year at 63. Look forward to following your experiences!
That's inspiring to this 57yo!
You guys are AWESOME 🎉. Bloody well done !!
I am 55, in far northern Sweden and have bought an Albin Vega, the 27ft little brother to yours. Been fixing her up for a year and a bit now in my front yard.

Good luck... Good to know I am not alone. I am 56 and trying to get out of here as soon as I can... aim to sail slowing round the world.
Lovely. Well done. Looking forward to more.
Good luck to you! Bravely done👍
Beautiful swedish sailboat, one if the most successful.
We also started sailing late in life and its a great thing to do as a couple.
It doesn't matter when you start as long as you do. I have already passed 60 years sailing and I still love it. Fair winds always.
Came upon your site today Start Sailing at Sixty, bloody awesome. Cheers to you both and happy sailing! ⛵

The Ballad's great little boat. You've probably seen the Sail Life channel with a superb restoration of a Ballad, but if not take a look.
So cool to see you getting going! We did the same thing in our state of Hawaii during COVID as well. Been out 30 times over the past couple of years and will sail the Hawaii Islands then head across the Pacific!! We started a bit younger than you guys at 55.

Very cool. I'm in my mid 50's and looking at boats right now. Taking my classes this summer and I hope to have one before next summer. Congrats to you two!
Lovely first video just subscribed. Looking for my first sailing boat at 58

Turning 57 in a few weeks and i'm desperately trying to get to where you are now! Watching with great interest!

Just subbed cause it looks like it’ll take me that long to buy a boat too, lol.
At 60 I took on a “free” project boat. Haven’t sailed yet. Still looking forward to getting out there.
Fantastic; I’m excited for you both.

저에게도 큰 힘이 되었습니다. 50대 후반이지만 저도 시작하려고 합니다. 좋은 영상 기대할께요~
Exciting channel. Looking forward to more episodes. Can I suggest a playlist called 'From the beginning.' So we can binge watch. ;-)
Good on you guys... Hopefully one day I can do the same
Good for you two. I love the lines on that boat. I have a vega 27. I hope your backs better than the 27.

I've been sailing over 20 years,on my third boat and even now I some times think " what the bloody hell are you doing out here?"
But once you're hooked,that's it,game over!
Omg im 59 tomorrow looking at boats now in perth Australia
Do it. Boats and sailing, on the sea, it is awesome, challenging, and satisfying if you follow good safety practices.
I hate to break it to you guys, but you're in your SEVENTH decade... Don't ask me how I know! ;-) Looking forward to following your exploits, as I also did my Day Skipper this summer, but will be confined to short breaks in the Med I think.
Putting our first boat in the water next Monday, Im 69 and 'bricking it' to be honest. We plan a week's shake down cruise then a 150nm trip from her current location where we bought her to her new moorings in Chichester Harbour. it brings to mind the saying "so much to do, so little time"
