@zMarkv bro I knew someone would come at me with this. For what I do, and I how I like my instruments to play, the Les Paul out of the box is not stable enough as a platform. It can be made to be, and some models are. Also people use guitars with inherent issues all the time just because that's what they dig. I love Les Paul's, I'm just not going to own another Gibson lp unless it's a less plus
@zMarkv haha, we're actually more on the same page than I thought but I'll say this: I've never had to do anything to a Parker, Paul Reed Smith core or s2, suhr, carvin, or Charvel Japan aside from truss rod and saddle adjustment. I am a bit biased to strats and strat derivatives. Lol
@zMarkv yeah fretwork on the SE's is not bad but definitely waaaaay inferior to what you see on s2 and core. and for some reason they just cannot figure out how to cut the nut slots correctly. every single SE i've come across has had the issue. easy fix but still, like, come on. Haven't played any since they started putting Paul's signature on the headstock though, maybe they finally got it down
Its the exact same case with the same construction and specs, its just much easier and more economical to outsource it. Means they can spend more resources making the actual guitars in the USA
I have owned 100s of Gibson les pauls from the 50s too now I have too say the 2020 Les paul is one of the best modern Gibson les pauls made too date , Gibson really up there game the neck feel is second too none , nut work is tight , simple electronics and great finishes , solid bodies and sound great ... I picked up a Michael Kelly CC50BB used from Sam Ash. Really nice case, guitar looks amazing and....?.......... It plays like butter with a very wide tonal range. It is amazing! The only issue was a loose output jack nut. Neck...Perfect!!! Gibson, get your QC in line already, you've had enough practice.
An excellent review which clearly demonstrates. That there are still problems with quality control. Having fret buzz on the G string is unacceptable. I would be disappointed if I had the problem. On a medium priced guitar. Never mind a premium priced signature model.
There should be no issues on a guitar this price, and 2 holes where they messed up the drilling for the pickup surrounds, that is ridiculous. And I’m a less paul fan 🤷🏽♂️
For $3k I want Slash's top hat, Slash picks and two groupies... Buying a "signature" anything is because you want to emulate your idol, sound like your idol and feel like your idol.

Yeah, a Chinese made case for a USA Gibson is a buzz kill. The Canadian cases are made really well. Not sure about the South American made ones, though.
I saw the felt washer under the screw on the 2019 I just got in. It was made on September 19th 2019 according to the numbers. I looked because of your videos. It’s an Unburst standard 60’s. It also came with what must be one of the last Canadian made cases, I was happy about that.
I just watched the video again. I noticed the bridge is a Non Wire ABR-1 bridge. Turn the saddle of the G string around, so that it is more centered in the middle of the bridge. The buzz is coming from the saddle intonation adjustment screw not having enough pressure to hold it in its slot. Since it is a Non Wire bridge, the tension from the string holds the saddle down. Because the G string saddle is so far back, there is not enough pressure holding it down. Try to remember where the G string saddle has the string seated. Try to put the string slot back in the same location it was, so you don't alter the intonation. Just spin the saddle around, and adjust it back to where it was.
For a player needing just one nut slot raised; one can twist up the fiber of a q-tip, slide it in the nut slot, put some super glue on it, and use a utility knife to recut the nut with more clearance once the super glue dries.
Trogly...time stamp 9:49... As an expert in wood finishing, I can tell you this "Weird" spot is a contaminate on/in the wood that caused it to not except the stain evenly with the rest of the wood. Another example of the slipping quality control at the Custom Shops.
The latches look excactly the same as on my Gator case. After a few years they start falling apart and unlatching randomly. I honestly don’t think that is good enough for a $3000 guitar that will need protection for decades.
Given all those issues with QC I reckon that it would be worth the $500 but not $3,000. If I received that guitar for the asking price I would reject it immediately.

Roughly 20 yrs ago I bought a flood damaged wine std husk. Using spare parts I put it together. It was ghastly but great. Eventually had it refinished to match the wine burst customs I'd seen in Gibson posters. Turned out amazing, & prob still in the tri-state area Trogly. When I start to wish I still had every guitar I've let go, I look at Trogly's content (check out his old content if you haven't already). Austin you've had some beauties brother. I have no doubt you'll prob bag an Aldo Nova, McCarty LPs, and even that damn North Star (assuming George didn't make it up.)
Say what you like about Gibson, but they never fail to disappoint when it comes to quality assurance, no matter how much you're paying. I have two Gibbos - both great but both flawed, and both too expensive for what they are. I love them both - but that's it for me. The value for money and quality just ain't there when compared to their rivals - and they have so many rivals now. Sad that a dealer sees such lack of attention for the price as par for the course.
Hi Trogly, have you ever review a LP with the Bangal burst? I am really liking the new Gibson Custom access in the Bangal burst WOW looks incredible and what is your opinion of the 498T and 480R pickups.Thank you.
The SLashbucker pickups really shouldn't be understated in any reviews! It is a HOT Alnico pickup that doesn't sound like an Alnico-II on the market, including the Slash Signatures. I've played 'em all, and the ones in these Slash Standards sound the best.
Here's what the slash standard strikes me as. A budget guitar with probably a $500 license payment or something to slash. Budget is relative, but it's not slash's guitar. The custom guitar has duncan alnico II pro pickups in it (which I don't like, but slash does). Gibson got stingy and decided that they would make their own imitations for slash's standard offering (which is more like a franklin mint replica at this point because it's becoming nothing like what slash uses). How do you offer a guitar for $3000, claim that your own pickups should retail for $175 each (maybe more) and then turn around and tell people that you don't want to put a set of duncan pickups that retail as a PAIR for what you try to retail one of your own pickups for - anyway, how do you take those facts together and tell people "hey bro, you have to go up to the custom level to actually get one with the pair of pickups that retail for half of what we try to retail ours for. At 3 grand retail, we can't put duncan pickups in a guitar when they're in $800 korean guitar. It's just unaffordable". None of that makes sense, except to say, it doesn't appear you're getting what you're paying for when you buy a gibson. Also, why worry about selling chinese made cases now? Parts of the pickups used in the custom shop guitars are from china, so why worry. They have a lot of debt to pay - we're being farmed along the way (I've owned 15 gibsons, and still have two, lest I be harpooned as being one of those folks who plays cheap guitars and doesn't ever buy gibsons). if you're going to spend 3 grand and you want a quality guitar, what do you do? buy a used collings. At least it sounds like the tailpiece is aluminum, but that's not too much of a boast, either - it's on pretty much every tokai that costs more than $1000.
Did you check the string clearance at the first fret with a feeler gauge? If not you may wish to consider adding that feature to your videos ... I bought a 2017 Gibson Les Paul Custom Shop Black Beauty which had 2 thousandths of an inch off too low that caused slight buzzing at the first fret noticeable when hitting the strings harder as an open string. Gibson factory spec nut clearance tolerances are easily searchable online and easily measured.
Is it worth 500 bucks more? Of course it is! Because uhhh... ummmm... it has skully on the front of the headstock! Oh wait, they dont do that anymore? Its on the back now? Thats not that cool. Ok well it has the special pickups thats cool right arent they worth 500 dollars? No theyre not? Ok i give up, these guitars not worth 500 dollars more than the standards!
And I agree I'd only buy a slash signature if the skull is in front and it's an AFD or special November burst finish I mean it's a waste of 500 just for a finish u can easily slap better Duncan's in it
Compared to the Standards these are overpriced. However, these are a steal compared to what some of the older versions of the Slash sigs go for on Reverb. You can find some around the $2500 mark but most are $3500+ now and there's no guarantee the one you want will be available at any given time.
@@Aarlog I guess it might be worth buying just to sell it later for more. Since it is a slash special I can't see the price going down in the future only up.
Looks like great guitars, but does confuse me the direction of the bridge. Is there some advantage on the direction of the screws on the bridge? Or does the direction mean something and what does it effect. I've viewed them both ways, not sure what this means.
Your videos are a highlight to my day! If I had to guess that g string issue is the intonation wire vibrating. It probably sounds normal if you hold a finger against its screw while picking it. My les paul standard has a loose wire often if the screws arent rotated just right.

My Schecter which costs a whole third of this guitar, was manufactured AND QC’d better. Shame. All the good Gibsons have indeed been made in the yesteryears.
Check the nut on top of the machine head and make sure its snug tight. Ive got some new gibson were the nut is loose on the machine head and causes a string vibration. Hopefully case doesnt have the virus. Lol.
I would crap myself a little if i saw these "MINOR FLAWS" I got to the screw holes and the fret nib, then they can't cut a nut...and wondered if a human had even inspected this thing. I can't risk paying twice as much as i have for any of my dozen guitars, and getting this thing. I can't hear any more excuses. Not looking at the mistakes doesn't make them go away. I have ordered 6 guitars sight unseen and all 6 were under $350. I had zero "small issues", or "mistakes". 0! Yes that was a bit dramatic, but....Damn. I still love Trogly and admire his work and persona.
Trogly, I’d like to hear your feelings about the binding on Gibson guitars where the seam lies against the finished neck/body. Many guitars have a smooth seam but Gibsons tend to have a slight ridge. Is this something that is just expected on Gibson guitars due to the hand scraping process, or is it a flaw I have just noticed lately?
those PUPS sound AMAZING. To bad about what seems to be a bad G string nut cut. At least it does not come through sounding off when it is plugged in? The red vermillion looks MUCH better here than in even Gibson's own pics. I would absolutely rock it.

Gibson has been hard at work for many years now to exactly replicate the sound that was made from a cheap replica guitar that was trying to replicate a Gibson... 🤔 So if someone would have given them that guitar before the band recorded with it. Culd be that the nut isnt cut at an angle front to back at the tuner side. It shuld be a bit lower. It culd be the spring inside/under of the ABR saddle.
Screw placement might be because it's a signature. Where his screws are. Bodies mass produce albeit different paint and specs. Just a program fit to spec. Throwing it out there. Keep 'em coming. Nice work.
Hey Austin! I think that the extra holes on the cavity of the switch are because even though they pre drill them, when the assembly guy starts putting the guitar together just puts the plastic cover on and screws it without checking to allign the holes from the cover to the pre drilled holes. I'm guessing that because half the holes are painted and finished an the others are not.
7:47 do you have any idea why that fret looks like its pulling up the wood? if this was an issue Im sure you would have caught it, but it looks like something is wrong with it.
This fret buzzing is totaly unacceptable. When you try a Gibson at the store, take your time. Bring a fret rocker and check all frets. Make sure that the nut is at the right height and that there is no fret buzing. Check how straight the neck is. Try the guitar with clean sound. Fret buzing can be masked with a lot of distortion. If the fret buzing is due to the fact that the bridge is so low that the strings are almost touching the frets, then raise the bridge just a little. If problem persits, tell the seller to send the guitar back to Gibson. But it's after that, that scares me,,,is Gibson realy gonna do sometning with the guitar or are they simply gonna ship it to a different store ???
I have the Epiphone Slash "Rossa Corsa." It came with Seymour Duncan Alnico II Pro pickups, which are the main pickups Slash records with and endorsed by Slash. This guitar costing over triple essentially has Gibson copycat of the Seymour Duncan pickups, but not the real thing. It seems kinda lame. I think a blue burst like that would look really good
Have you ever found a Gibson LP with no issues.....I haven't
The bad G string would be enough for me to send it back.....Even though I know how to fix it.
Your lessons are beginning to show....getting much better.
I love the aesthetics of LP's but every single Gibson Les Paul I've owned has had some issues that kept it from being reliable as an instrument
Lol
So how do you fix it?
@zMarkv yeah fretwork on the SE's is not bad but definitely waaaaay inferior to what you see on s2 and core. and for some reason they just cannot figure out how to cut the nut slots correctly. every single SE i've come across has had the issue. easy fix but still, like, come on. Haven't played any since they started putting Paul's signature on the headstock though, maybe they finally got it down
I'm guessing there was not supposed to be a black screen from 5:16 to 5:23 so I figured I'd let ya know. Great video! Cheers

My 2020 60's Ice tea is absolutely beautiful and weighs 9.2 lbs solid body my go too guitar now .
Pretty wall hanger, at that money you could get 6 Korean guitars with SD pickups which play perfect out of the box.
Ikr? Those holes looks ugly... messes up the sound too..... what are they thinking???
@@doffendoffenson4917 Yea for real, that guitar belongs in the trash.... its useless because of the little holes nobody ever sees.

The old latches are real brass, the new ones are brass color plated metal of some sort...so sad to see.
Yeah, a Chinese made case for a USA Gibson is a buzz kill. The Canadian cases are made really well. Not sure about the South American made ones, though.
Are the cases for all models made in China?
If I paid for one of those, I would expect it to be flawless

That riff section was very well recorded.
I saw the felt washer under the screw on the 2019 I just got in. It was made on September 19th 2019 according to the numbers. I looked because of your videos. It’s an Unburst standard 60’s. It also came with what must be one of the last Canadian made cases, I was happy about that.
If it were $1000 I would forgive the little things wrong, but not 3k

Your an awesome dude Austin, I dig all your vids. BTW your playing has really improved
great demo trogly! your best yet. good playing, and I can totally hear the slash tone from what you played.
For a player needing just one nut slot raised; one can twist up the fiber of a q-tip, slide it in the nut slot, put some super glue on it, and use a utility knife to recut the nut with more clearance once the super glue dries.
Loved the montage of the guitar as you played!!
I ordered a November Burst and can't wait for it.
Given all those issues with QC I reckon that it would be worth the $500 but not $3,000. If I received that guitar for the asking price I would reject it immediately.
At just under $3,000.00 map. It's not nit picky.
Lowering your expectations, and saying "oh well" justifies Gibson and their sloppy QC...
I'm tired of settling for sub standard Made in America quality.

I got a PRS Tremonti SE for £500 new. Build quality was flawless and came out of the box in tune and totally playable. Have never needed to tweak it. Amazing guitar. Why can't Gibson do this at the prices they charge?
I just wrote on here that I had a Tremonti se that really impressed me. Awesome neck. I dont care who endorses a guitar, I care if it is good. High five PRS SE.
Thanks for the review. Not a Slash guy myself but the guitar looks and plays nice. Have a great rest of the week.
$3000, not the quality you’d expect for that money
Say what you like about Gibson, but they never fail to disappoint when it comes to quality assurance, no matter how much you're paying. I have two Gibbos - both great but both flawed, and both too expensive for what they are. I love them both - but that's it for me. The value for money and quality just ain't there when compared to their rivals - and they have so many rivals now. Sad that a dealer sees such lack of attention for the price as par for the course.
They seem to be banking more on their name then their quality these days.
Your slider shots are looking great!
Gibson slash buckers are worth more then the Duncans..... also gibson makes a better pickup then seymour duncan.
Vermillion burst looks awesome!
I'm still mad about the Slash seller & the Luthier .GRRRRRR..

Thanks for the coverage of this model. It is interesting to see how a signature model evolves over time.
This guitar should be called "The Slash Paul"
Excellent analysis thank’s mate !
I hope you answer back. Are you using the Deluxe Reverb solid state? I was looking at them and was ready to pull the trigger.$ I'm speaking of the " open box" $780.00 celestion speaker 12" model. Thanks in advance...Jerry
Lol.
I would like to see you demo and review the Fender Eric Johnson Strats. I recently bought one and find it incredibly versatile and well-made .🤟✌️
I was done with Gibson a while ago. Just find a cheap LP copy you like the neck profile of and mod it up, it will be a fraction of three grand.
Nice review, thank you 🙏🏻 good luck
I would crap myself a little if i saw these "MINOR FLAWS" I got to the screw holes and the fret nib, then they can't cut a nut...and wondered if a human had even inspected this thing. I can't risk paying twice as much as i have for any of my dozen guitars, and getting this thing. I can't hear any more excuses. Not looking at the mistakes doesn't make them go away. I have ordered 6 guitars sight unseen and all 6 were under $350. I had zero "small issues", or "mistakes". 0! How can the Grand Daddy of all that is guitar expect us to just say thank you may i have another sir! That is a car for my kid! Keep your candy and give me quality.

Gibson would have said that it wasn’t made from the same premium materials. Blah blah blah. Also something about their quality of pickups. Blah blah. (which B.T.W. are late 70’s early early 80’s alnico 2 Pro Seymour Duncan’s)
and of course that the electronics being used were inferior to their current products on sale. And of course that it didn’t sound as good as one of their own true blue LesPauls. 😂
But then now today we pay more for that inferior guitar sound....so....yeah.
It just further proves that actually nothing is worth anything significant until everyone wants it. Then it becomes “valuable.”

I personally would send it back but that's just me and I would tell them to keep it, double screw holes the ruff plastic plate and there is no way I would put the scratchplate on this guitar, damage on this is not on, you would not expect this on a car, A Gibson is around 38 inches long that is not that much to look over in the factory, Gibson has a long way to go and I would sooner have my case made in Canada than China, but a Great video very enjoyable

Screw placement might be because it's a signature. Where his screws are. Bodies mass produce albeit different paint and specs. Just a program fit to spec. Throwing it out there. Keep 'em coming. Nice work.
I wanted to ask if you ever did voiceover for Time& Temperature?
