As always I come to the same conclusion when I watch these comparison videos…I need to get both! 😆😅
Hey y'all-- as some smart people have pointed out, this is in fact a Standard 60's Les Paul, not the Standard 50's. I'm sorry for the mixup, however, I do urge you to compare these two just the same. The 60's Les Paul has a set of the Burstbucker 61's and some different tuners, but it's still a great guitar and a great one to put up against the Slash Limited. Thanks again for watching, let me know if you have any questions! - Cooper
I thought so.
Did you ever compared a 50s vs Slash model?
I’ve got the 50s Standard and the Slash. They are very similar, but the Slash is punchier.
Played the Slash LP this weekend and love it! Such a great guitar for half price of a custom a real player guitar. I am trying to decide between the Slash LP, LP Greeney and Adam Jones LP. Need to play these others to decide as cannot afford to buy all three guitars.
I like the 50s tones better, the lower output burst buckers give a sweeter tone for me. I like them a lot, and the flame maple is more subtle which I appreciate
Thank you, Cooper! You guys do a great job. I look forward to all the great Alamo videos you put out.
The standard actualy sounds better to these ears. Much crisper top end. That unburst is a beautiful finish too.
The slash one certainly has more character to it IMO
The pick ups are amazing. I put a set in a hollow body, they’re so articulate ❤
Good video ,im a huge Gibson Les Paul lover ,I only own one Slash Custom Model *Rosso Corsa* but am considering picking up either the November burst or the New Victoria Goldtop ,waiting for reviews on that one as well ,anyways i think the Slash model is worth the extra 500 bucks in my opinion as the tonality is clearly better than the 50s model ,but to each their own ..great video !
The Slash neck is nice especially for lead guitar. Hotter pickups also. Worth the money
agree a fantastic guitar for clean or high gain. I like the Adam Jones LP as well so hard to decide! Think Slash is more versatile perhaps? Need to play all these.
Isn’t that a 60s standard in the video by the looks of the tuning keys and knobs?
Sure is. Still nice comparison Cooper.
I think you’re right. This surprises me a bit cause this dude seems to know his guitars. There is no way you could mistake the two necks. I have a couple 60s ones and a couple 50s. The 60s are sooo skinny. I can’t even play them anymore after I got the bigger ones. I have the 50s but I also have this Traditional that seems even bigger. I love it. ( no cartoons on the headstock either)
Yes, unless it’s a mod from the Gibson demo shop 🤷♂️
Very true...also, I think only the 1960s LP Standard has the real beautiful " Unburst" colour option as well as Bourbon Burst and Ice Tea. I have the Ice Tea version and it's totally unbeatable in every way.
They both sound amazing to me. I actually liked clean tones of the Slash a little better - I didn't expect that.
I stand corrected, you did play it clean! Thanks, nice demo
This is the difference between these 2 guitars:
For Standard 50's, you only pay to Gibson
For Slash Standard, you pay to Gibson and Slash.
...someone finally understood how " signatures" work. I mean no matter what Gibson you gonna buy...you still paying slash... imagine...now you even know how sponsoring works.
@@dimaermolenko98 i actually though that they costed more because people thought "hey i am gonna sound like him if i buy it", so they tool advantage of the name. I would never buy a guitar just because it's signature, only if it sounds and feels great.
@@biohazard8295well I got the slash signature but not because it’s a slash signature but because I like how the top has a lot of flame to it and the colour, and the neck
Same here I tried the 50’s, 60’s and couldn’t find the right one, so the sales guy at Gibson Garage in Nashville brings out Slash’s in a November Burst and it took me 5 minutes to say this is the guitar.
Trust me I loath all these signature guitars but it just felt so good on my hands and sounded so good and looked so beautiful that I had to buy it!!
My other guitars are a GLP Classic and a Heritage-150 🙌🏻
Request for a video, Gibson les paul standard with SD slash pick ups vs Gibson les paul slash signature.
The Slash Les Paul is well worth the money. I traded my 60s Les Paul for the slash one and I’m glad to say I won’t be going back.
The slash Les Paul is more tonally dynamic and sounds more resonant to me because of the thicker neck. I’ve played and owned many custom shop guitars and the slash Les paul is by far the best guitar I’ve ever played.
Also another pickups there, right? Slashbuckers if INM
@@maxmonaco yep, the slash models have what they were calling “slashbuckers” but are now calling Gibson custom buckers or something. I have the November burst and it’s great. I love the slashbuckers. I have the Seymour Duncan’s in another LP and had some burstbucker pros in another LP. All can be nice depending on what you like but I prefer the slashbuckers.
I love mine, the pickups are incredible and versatile
It's also more resonant thanks to NO weight relief holes.
@@AndyK.23 The new Standards do not have weight relief. I own a 60s and it's a heavy guitar for sure
Hi Cooper, really nice job. I intend to try both guitars out, but it will be a while before I am able to do so because of current restrictions. I tend to favour a slim 60’s type neck. I would welcome your opinion, is there really much difference between the 60’s neck and the Slash version. I would like to think that the Slash neck would suit me.
The pickups may be the biggest factor as a production guitar the neck radius and pickups ..the slash is darker in middle neck a lot the treble just love …especially through a good tube amp cranked…the 60’s neck is thinner ..both short neck tendon..weighty my slash anyway…it’s a close choice …the neck feel may be the factor for most..great job as always🤙🏻🤙🏻
I already own a 2017 Standard which has a AAA finish and also weight relief.(I love it)If this new Standard without weight relief had AAA instead of AA. I would go for that. I’m not a slash fan, but the AAA and choice of finishes makes the slash version a serious consideration for me.
It's a tough guitar to say no to!!!
Great demo 👍👍
Thanks!
I got the appetite burst and don't regret it one bit, its heavy as hell though
@@BossTweed69 Hi Boss, good to hear you have no regrets. Can you tell me your impression of the neck. Generally I prefer a slimmer or 60’s type neck. I’m just hoping this neck will not be too fat for me. Your thoughts would be appreciated. Because of the COVID restrictions, it may be a while before I get the chance to try one. Many thanks
I have the November Burst and I LOVE IT!!! I do not play like Slash but the guitar is epic
What's your opinion on the neck? Is it much more thicker than the proV's? Or other Les Paul models??
After owning the slash LP for a year, yes it certainly is worth it.
Picked up the Slash Vermillion a couple of days ago, sounds great, neck is really comfortable sort in between 50s & 60s. Stunning looking guitar worth the extra $500. Plus I think the Vermillion and Anaconda are limited runs where as Appetite and November are not.
I bought the Appetite yesterday, plays like butter and looks incredible, looking at th 50s 60s models they had cosmetically its a no brainer and I dont like pickguards so Im happy not having one
Even if there are not a limited now, I think that after years they will be kind of limited generally and have much more than 500$ difference
i am getting a slash ...i am not a slash fan ...i was told they are just a cut above a standard there for i will go the extra mile for the AAA top the klusson style tuners and the better pick ups...i can always change out the truss rod cover
I did and I'm very happy I did. Although, the anaconda burst with the black pu rings and knobs would be nicer with the pups covered. I ordered chrome covers.
I just bought tha appetite amber one, reasons I’ve went for the slash one was because I prefer proper flame tops alot more and I think they look better without pickguards, the neck seems to be better than the others and I’ve seen so many people that have tried these say that there is something special about these
I bought the slash model it’s crisp and much hotter than the other but it will tell on you if you bobble. The other has a more blended sound not the rusty razor sound.
Play and buy what you like and feel
I love Les Paul guitars, I play a lot of 80s stuff, 90s as well as classic rock and some drop d stuff as well as cleans. I'm looking for that 50s thick neck but I want pickups that can do the metal thing when I play that stuff. So far the Slash is what I'm looking to get. I have an LP classic and love it! But I also want one with the 50s style neck but for the music I play the Slash seems to be the best option. Also great video!
Did you get the slash?
Further Cooper besides 60’s reflector knobs I think correct me if I’m wrong the maple tops on the Gibson standards are AA flame Slash model is a AAA triple flame ..so aesthetically the slash gives more flame affect however I’ve seen some nice AA standards that look AAA…it’s all good it’s a big investment for most of us but …it’s a Gibson Les Paul.😊
I just picked up that vermillion red model. Love it. Really feels right...
Think I like the standard better.
I have the slash Victoria I like it a lot I had the standard 50s and I like the slash a lot more I think it sounds better and is easier to play.
Just ordered the Slash, November burst. My first Gibson. Going to a Gibson from a Schecter Diamond series. Fingers crossed.
How did you like it, 5 months later?
@@Smart-Alex Love the Gibson. I think it came with the action set a little low for me, but what a difference. The 22 fret Gibson is good for me.
The fret spacing on my 24 fret Schecter was difficult for me. I don't have long fingers.
That's a 60s standard in Unburst. Not a 50s. I bought one, took it back to guitar center. I didn't like the flat spot on the back of the 60s slim taper neck. I have a Slash in Anaconda Burst. Love it!!!!!
No one talks about the jumbo freats . That's the best thing about the Slash LP
I've got a Slash custom shop and the AFD, but mostly play 2010 Standard. There are differences, but for the extra cash, not really worth it in my opinion.
It's a money making machine, especially for Gobson, the AFD a class example. Supposedly a ring of 600.. then came the custom shop, then the aged and signed. All chambered first weight relief, so not a true copy of a Gibson copy by Kris Derrig. And again, my opinion only, I think the build quality of build has gone down, factory set ups are a joke.
The Standard ! to my ears anyway.
I'd say the Slash one for serious potential collector value and resale in the future
Why buy one when you can have two for twice the price? It’s tough to replicate the neck pickup sound on the Slash model.
So the second one is 50’s or 60’s? 🧐
Gibson Standard seems better. I think you should have played several phrases and then switch to the other guitar and back and forth. It would have made for better comparison
ty for the info...based on that I"m going to buy one of these tomorrow , the gib/slash sunburst.... shall see
Um......Cooper this a 60s standard
Compare neck slash 7:12 50s 8:32 bridge slash 7:46 50s 9:19
I'm biased against signature models. Why be someone else when you can be yourself? I also like Gibsons with traditional builds and finishes. So, 60's for me and a $500 savings.
The Les Paul is essentially a signature model.
I’m planning on getting the slash model for the tone more or less I love the way it sounds plus it looks nice too
You do realise that plenty of people myself included have bought this guitar for reasons that don’t include a signature model, my 1st reason is I like a lot of flame on the top and I also think that looks a million times better without a pickguard, so I won’t have predrilled holes in this one, also I prefer the hotter pickups and and thirdly I think the neck is better than on all the other standard models
@@jmdyt3626 You do realize I'm speaking for myself and not the whole world. You don't need to defend your purchase to me.
@@festushaggen2563 I’m just saying why there’s a difference that’s all
I have a 60s standard unburst . I love it
I wanna know if these are long tenon tho. Slash’s guitars have always had a long tenon joint
What amp are you using?
something i wish someone would explain to gibson: i do know how change pickups. i do not know how to fill a pick guard hole, paint a pick guard hole and then clear cote a pck guard hole. i am sure i am not the only one who feels this way. give us a choice.
the slash model supposedly uses more resonate woods then the regular standard also the binding should be a little thinner on the slash model and has slashes c shape neck profile .. of course slash pickups and some have 1 piece bodies if you look hard enough you can find them on both models the 2 piece will be more stable over time ... I have the new 60s Ice Tea and love it well done Gibson ruclips.net/video/OgQjIjUdMtc/видео.html
Did you use any pedals ? Thanks
Problem with 50s standard is it’s low notes. They’re not as crisp as (the god of Les Paul) 1959 Gibson.
The problem with slash standard is it’s got someone else’s name stamped on it. Makes You feel like such a fan boy.
Problem with both new 50/60s standard is dogshit pickups. Slap a nice set of boutique PAFs on there an you're good to go
Wait I’m confused….. is it a 50’s or a 60’s ???????
Can we get a slash sig vs Greeny video?
Slash model seems to have a lot of tone options.
Thats the standard 60's not 50's
You‘ve had a 60‘s.LP Standard there in the test-Look😂😂
Standard sounds better to me.
the slash one is nice... but not worth the price... should be 1K less... I am getting an e 2 esp... should be just fine.
The 60’s has a warmer tone, so it just depends on what you like.
I wouldn’t buy any Gibson made after 2007 but that’s just me. Quality is hit or miss.
The 60s sounds sweeter on it’s own, but the Slash is designed to cut through the mix. 60’s will sound better in a bedroom, Slash will sound better in a live band. One guy below said he couldn’t hear a difference. Either he was listening on a potato or has wooden ears.
@Michael Zh 😅
Yes. Extremely important.
50 is my favorite guitar fpr blues rock. Slash better for hard rock
I paid the xtra..
I got the 50s. It’s brilliant. And it has no cartoon on the back of the headstock. If it was only the truss cover that wouldn’t be too bad. You could toss it in the G file. I’m not sure that’s a 50s std tho. It looks like a 60s to me. I have 5 LPs and happy to say no Slash cartoon ones among them.
Standard better value
I don't think the sound difference, which I didn't hear any real difference, is worth an extra $500. It would only be for the difference in Finish, which again, I don't believe is worth an extra $500, especially since the guitars are so expensive to begin with.
The slash also has a AAA top. The 50s doesn’t.
Looks like a 60’s not a 50’s
Not a standard 50s dude.
Standard wins
Why does this get reviewed with a Fender amp? Makes no sense.
❤
wish you would have demoed this with no pedals, play it raw and let them go toe to toe
SLASH LES PAUL sounds like good
