The easiest way by far to NOT get scammed, is to value the person you're buying from more than the bike. If the person seems 100% genuine (trust your instincts, it took millions of years to develop them), go for that bike. If the person seems slightly off even if you cant figure out why or what it is, dont buy that bike. You can absolutely sense when someone is trying to hide something, even if THEY think they're an oscar winning actor. They never are.
This is the the best fcking video on motorcycles that I have EVER seen. Dude, I had paper out and was taking notes! I'm actually going out this afternoon to look at buying my first bike (and it's off of Craigslist). Thanks a lot for all of the great info!! Subscribed.
First step make sure the vin number matches the tittle then do your inspection or you are wasting your time.. also bring a buddy with you to avoid getting robbed .. just saying
Best how to video hands down. This video is so helpful and covers a lot for someone how doesn't know a lot about motorcycles. And yes I am going to be that one person taking a note pad and checking off on everything you hit.
Othon Zamarripa I'll help you the best I can but at the end of the day this was a video about how to buy a motorcycle off Craigslist and not maintain one that you already own obviously upon buying a bike you don't know what was done when so I recommend just doing all those as soon as you buy the bike it wouldn't hurt anything or do it slowly as you can you know oil and coolant being the first to
best thing to do when you buy your 1st bike off CL is to do what i did and i went to my local motorcycle dealer/mechanic. went to the mechanic and said "hey im buying a bike off of CL and i need a pro to look at it if you could come after your shift I'll throw you some money" 99.9% they will say yes especially if you pay them good. i gave him $100 bucks and he did it...BEST ROUTE TO GO
I always thought about doing a thing where it's like "Hey man I love the bike, but I want to get it checked out. SSB near me does inspections for 60 bucks. Can we drive over there and I'll pay for the cost. If it's as good of shape as you say it is I'll take it today, if they come back and say it needs 300 in maintenance I'm taking that off the price" I've even thought about saying (only to the guys that say "my bike is perfect shape") "OK, Love it, if its in as good of shape as you say it is lets take it and you pay the 60 for the inspection, if it's perfect/near perfect I'll add that 60 back in so you aren't out any money and take it today" if they say yes and are confident in their bike, good on em.. if they are like "No way I'm not doing that" Ok... so then your bike really isn't in as good of shape as you say it is
Admittedly, I also bought my last car off craigslist without even sitting in the thing. Looked at it for 10 minutes in a parking lot. First time I drove it we were at the guys bank and I was dropping him off at the Lexus dealership after the transfer.. so so so stupid. But trusted my gut and the guy. His parents worked at the dealership so had all maintenece done there, looked it up. Only thing I've had to do was a new battery (Toyota TrueStars CCA's are crap here in Minnesota -30 week long winter bursts) and a headlight bulb.
BEST "how to buy a bike" video I have seen yet. Everyone else doesn't cover nearly as many points as this video and they just say look here or look there but never tell you what exactly to look for. Get out your note pad and take notes on this one! Good job!
Your a wonderful person for posting this video !!! I really enjoyed learning from you thank you so much ... I have been on dirt bikes but have always wanted to ride street, but honestly I know nothing about them . Thank you again I really enjoyed this please post more . Maybe beginner riding tips etc . Great job !!!
For those who find this video informative, it is. He covers most things well. That said, I feel like two important tips were left out of the pre test-ride inspection. - Before - you go on that test ride, check the tires air pressure and look for weather checking, cupping, or other tire wear abnormalities. These are clues. Secondly, use your flashlight to get a good look at brake pads, (especially the front), the inside ones can be difficult to see. While you're looking there, check for signs of leaking fluid from the brake calipers and examine the rotors for heat checking/blueing, grooves, warpage. Give the front brake lever a pull to see if it feels firm. If things check out - Then - start it up and go for that test ride. That's what's gonna save your ass out there on the road. ;)
U done a we'll job young man I'm taking notes as u got I'm looking to purchase my first street bike in 1 month. Heads up on that mileage information Thanks.
Good job on video 4 folks looking 4 a used bike that r inexperienced. Also try 2 get a friend that knows bikes 2 come along with you to view bike/ RIDE ON!!!
Only things I would add is pop the seats look for wiring add ons, sloppy connections, cut wires etc. rubber under fender sign of burn out not a deal killer but a sign of how well it was taken care of. Ask if they did maintenance themselves or took it to a shop. If they did it themselves ask what type of chain cleaner and lube they use if they can’t tell you they probably have not cleaned, lubed it. What type of oil, antifreeze they use. If they stub.e they a full of BS. If levers, bar ends or new may be a sign it was dropped. Check air filter if you are really planning on buying it, has it been changed or cleaned if K&N. And finally get a report (like car facts but for bikes), will show how many owners. Also based on gear they have will kind of tell how responsible they are, more responsible possibly took better care of it.
I had this exact bike and it was the biggest nightmare. I had to change the r/r and stator 4 times and the battery 3 times. I also had a problem with the carbs and it not having enough power. the bike lived at the mechanics. but the final problem was when I was riding and the front sprocket came off and was slingshotted in the motor case. This caused all my oil to shoot out and Im not sure how I didn't crash because my whole back tire was covered. The good news was Yamaha covered the cost because there was a recall on the sprocket nut. I would call your yamaha dealer and run your vin to see if it was fixed or not.
Tip 1 is crucial, when i bought my first bike (dirt bike) i didn't check the frame and later on i looked and it had a crack in it. I now kinda know how to weld still gotta practice more but it's a pain in the ass having to weld the bike.
your bike is awsome bro realy looks clean and knew and u seem to know every thing like if i was to get a bike i would want u to come with to tell me if this bike is worth it.
+Amazethebum thanks bro, let me know what else you interested in seeing, or hearing about, shit, since you and the rest of my subs make this channel, might as well get what you want from it.
+2WheelAddict No Problem, yeah i do i ride a Suzuki gsx600 i post videos on my instagram ( @Amazethebum ) so i dont get copyrighted on youtube. i got to buy a new mic adapter for my gopro then ill post on youtube
alright man, how long till we should change our oil - how long till should we change our coolant - how long till should we change our brake fluid-how long till we should change our spark plugs-how long till we change our air filter-please reply back asap, thanks for your time
If you not a motorbike technician, its really hard for a user to choose a good bike unless you bring them along when buying.. Drop or crash well repaired also depend on the selling value.. Normally those user seriously wanna sell off the bike will already do fully paint, some changes for those wear & tears with full overhaul.. The most important was to test ride the machine with different speed to heard the internal engine.. In the end, if you are just a user you got try luck on used machine cause nothing major you can check if you don't push the bike to proper motorbike shop you know..
Lol,it isn't. iT'S A 600 you shouldn't be torquing/high speed riding with a passenger on a 600. Not designed for passengers in mind. So it will tighten up the chain but don't be dumb about it.
Numberless Oats since ive welded together everything from racing go carts to midget sprint car frames all i have to say is yes but be careful the bike could develope a crack elsewhere on the frame and welding one without the other is like priming a mouse trap
I’m thinking about riding again after 10yrs , looking at a GSXR 600 @ 20Gs on clock or GSX 650F @ 15Gs on clock each @ $3000 , Seems that GSX 650F is more bang for buck I guess ..
You sure its fork seal oil and not brake dust? Also you can change your tire yourself with tire spoons it's crazy simple just a bit of a workout and balancing isn't an issue if you use balancing beads!
A reasonable seller should already take into account any flaws and mechanical issues when deciding on a selling price. However many sellers have a ridiculously high asking price and are hoping to find some idiot that might give them what they are asking for it.
Also if youre buying a Yamaha, they have codes that you can look up and see if the eletrical is good. Im sure you can do it on other makers, but Ive owned yamahas all my life lol. Speaking of electrical make sure all the turn signals, headlights and tailights. Look for oem, good, wiring and not Mickey Mouse type shit wiring. Look at the brakepads as well.
I wanted to know is it easy to tighten the chain? I have the same exact bike & my mechanics aren't hitting me back & I wanna learn how to do it because it seems very simple
TheLe016 thanks for the response man! Another question is it possible to do it while it's on the kick stand cause at the moment I don't have the stands that hold the bike straight up & wheels off the ground
Seller was asking over 2,000 , knowing what i know, i paid 1,600 i think ( I dont feel like digging through files to check.) I have spent close to 4,000 on it in upgrades to be where shes at today. It actually looked like shit when i got it. New fairing kit helped alot
Why would you sink 6k into an R6 w/ nearly 30k miles? You can buy a LOT of nice bikes w/ low mileage for that kind of cheddar. And whenever you end up selling it...you'll get what... $3k? Not bashing on ya, just food for thought. I would never sink that kind of cash into a cheap bike. The resell value just doesn't justify that kind of investment. Regardless of how long I planned on keeping it.
Annony Mouse 30k for these bikes ain't nothing. I ride a first gen R6 as well and its strong and it has 29k miles. I'd rather have a bike that has a lot of miles and taken cared of than a bike that has low miles and been sitting. A bike sitting is worse. I love my bike, id put more in it, resale value aint anything to me if I'm enjoying the hobby. Thats not what its about. But again you have your preferences
Tires have date codes on them, suggest replacement is 6 years. check your dates you could have tires that look new, but are 15 years old. they need to be replaced.
The easiest way by far to NOT get scammed, is to value the person you're buying from more than the bike.
If the person seems 100% genuine (trust your instincts, it took millions of years to develop them), go for that bike.

thunternsf how did it go? What bike did you get?
rip thunternsf
thunternsf me too!! Really knowledgeable guy.
Same here, I'm trying to get this 2005 Hayabusa that I saw on there for 4k or a 2006 Gsxr 600 I saw for 3.2k.
thunternsf What do I do with the title? Am i supposed to write my name somewhere?
Can definitely tell you watch CycleCruza. So many times you wanted to say "Set you up for a fucked up day" Got me laughing lol.
Did it take anyone else 5 minutes to realize the bike is in his fucking house.
What's wrong with that?
Alex Crane and your point is???
Alex Crane it's so it's not easily stolen
I'm with ya. Didn't realize till I read your comment
I like it. Best place to keep it.
"..that chain snaps and locks up your rear wheel at 100 you're gonna be sliding and having a fucked day"... LOL!
Mudder Fukker 😂 and here i thought chain slack was to allow my rear suspension to do its job.
If you don't hit anything, just slide to a stop, you will probably be fine if you are wearing good armored gear.
First step make sure the vin number matches the tittle then do your inspection or you are wasting your time.. also bring a buddy with you to avoid getting robbed .. just saying

Scared to buy used now. Jeez. Thanks for the thoroughness.
Ryan Stanberry I’d be more scared buying from a rip off dealer...

Mechanic said to himself this bike will be at my shop in a month.. Job security...
GREAT VIDEO for noob bike buying used! Buying my first bike this weekend and this video REALLY gave me that core guide at what to look for.
BEST "how to buy a bike" video I have seen yet. Everyone else doesn't cover nearly as many points as this video and they just say look here or look there but never tell you what exactly to look for. Get out your note pad and take notes on this one! Good job!
I can't wait to move out so I can park my motorcycle in my house 😂
Not a good idea, gas fumes! fumes are more explosive that the gas itself. Even an empty or next empty tank is dangerous in so many ways!
Brap Genius best part about living alone
sonny w why would you turn the bike on in the house? If you wanna get it out you put it in neutral or hold on the clutch and roll it out
Im going to lol
thank you for this video, I love how you showed each step while explaining it, I'm going to look at some bikes soon so this was so helpful
Dude, is that a Yamaha?
18:23
Lol nope, he just likes yamaha Stickers...
Im not sure, i need to peel off those stickers and have a look.
Its a Honda Civic
Eric Piekkola LOLOL i was thinking THAT myself um dood it was sarcasm duh

Best video I've seen in a long time! Dually and RZR rider myself, but looking to get a sport bike myself. Thanks for producing.
Your a wonderful person for posting this video !!! I really enjoyed learning from you thank you so much ... I have been on dirt bikes but have always wanted to ride street, but honestly I know nothing about them . Thank you again I really enjoyed this please post more . Maybe beginner riding tips etc . Thanks for the advice man. Exactly what I was wanting to know. I really appreciate it.
hey just wanted to say thanks for this video. was real helpful and informative. Will help me in the future for sure so thanks again man!
Excellent advise. Tire age is just as important as tread wear. Sport bike tires start to dry out after 5 years... and NO TIRE SHINE!
first video I watched from you. subscribed within 3 minutes. amazing info.
this video was very helpful I watched it last night and I bought a bike thanks for all the help

+2WheelAddict No Problem, yeah i do i ride a Suzuki gsx600 i post videos on my instagram ( @Amazethebum ) so i dont get copyrighted on youtube. i got to buy a new mic adapter for my gopro then ill post on youtube

You’ve got an understanding wife storing your bike in your living room. Therefore I’d buy your bike!
alright man, how long till we should change our oil - how long till should we change our coolant - how long till should we change our brake fluid-how long till we should change our spark plugs-how long till we change our air filter-please reply back asap, thanks for your time
the first thing i check is the compression or does the motor matter and what about the muffler bearing
Thank you!

Your chain looks too tight to me. Have a buddy sit on your bike and check it again.
Dar Tice man did you notice he forgot the sprocket
Lol,it isn't. iT'S A 600 you shouldn't be torquing/high speed riding with a passenger on a 600. Not designed for passengers in mind. So it will tighten up the chain but don't be dumb about it.
Good pointers man
Where's the suzuki ? In the bathroom ?
Great looking r6
Tim Barry it ain't a r6 he just has a bunch of Yamaha stickers LOL
you have a nice dog buddy.
sorry I'm new in only 15 and was looking for a sport bike or dual sport is the checking the bike the same
obv i couldnt tell what the texture was. but the fork seal oil was brake dust???

6:40 thats break dust fam
2Gunz Performance I was thinking the same thing. 🤦🏾♂️
I also took notes
Cheers mate.
What year is your bike and how much they run for? Nice bike!
Thanks 🍻
Could you get the cracks welded up by a professional welder?
Numberless Oats since ive welded together everything from racing go carts to midget sprint car frames all i have to say is yes but be careful the bike could develope a crack elsewhere on the frame and welding one without the other is like priming a mouse trap
I’m thinking about riding again after 10yrs , looking at a GSXR 600 @ 20Gs on clock or GSX 650F @ 15Gs on clock each @ $3000 ,
Seems that GSX 650F is more bang for buck I guess ..
My seller said the bike had a tree fall on it. Once I took the fairings off it had been crashed a few times.
Very good. I’m in the process I found a 07 GSXR 600 with 17k miles for 4999?
Do I need to do that for a Kawasaki 650 with only 1.5 k miles on it
I'll have two fingers of whiskey 😋
Bring a professional bike mechanic when you buy a bike or take it to a shop to get checked out 😊
I Have anger issues, i bought a bike just to rage at people in traffic. Ive only been in 39 traffic fights in 4 months!
😳😂😂😂😂😂😂😁
Also who makes your bike?
You sure its fork seal oil and not brake dust? Also you can change your tire yourself with tire spoons it's crazy simple just a bit of a workout and balancing isn't an issue if you use balancing beads!
some bikes (mostly older types) have the gears and breakside switched around ;) just to let you know...
A reasonable seller should already take into account any flaws and mechanical issues when deciding on a selling price. However many sellers have a ridiculously high asking price and are hoping to find some idiot that might give them what they are asking for it.
"Alright that raps this up, i'll probably add a part two if you're interested... Oh one more thing..."

50 bucks for two front tires on a car?!? More like 300 for two tires.
PurplePenguin probably meant to install
30$ used, installed.
nice vid
a rolling coffin xD love it
How about if theike has been repainted?
is that a honda cbr?
love this year model. I thin other Delta box series looks fucken sexy
Dope bike
Can anybody tell me what year is that bike please
How much did you get the bike for I love it. Also what is the model for it so I can look it up man!
Model is 2001 Yamaha R6, got it from his other video.
Seller was asking over 2,000 , knowing what i know, i paid 1,600 i think ( I dont feel like digging through files to check.) I have spent close to 4,000 on it in upgrades to be where shes at today. It actually looked like shit when i got it. New fairing kit helped alot
