FATAL Truth about Deep Sea Fishing...Catch Clean Cook (Snapper)

- Опубликовано: 5 фев 2025
- Today we head deep into the gulf of Mexico to target the many snapper species found in these fruitful waters. We encounter red snapper, yellowtail snapper, mangrove snapper and various grouper. When you see fish exploding to the surface they are full of air and barotrauma is the culprit of this phenomenon. We are joined by Nick from the Return em Right a non profit conservation organization.

What an awesome day out on the water! Thanks for having us and letting us demonstrate another option for helping fish we can't keep survive release when suffering from barotrauma. Not every fish will make it, but we like to give each one their best shot!
Vik seemed angry
Thank you for such a great device
When you scooped that snapper up,with no net, that was awesome, You do have a good presence on camera. You should be in more videos with maybe some other RUclipsrs like Bluegabe. You might actually make his videos enjoyable for a change. Or JoeVT. He is a good guy, but he could definitely learn something from you because he does act a but like a know it all. Love his channel and he does educate, but sometimes it's just a wee tad sanctimonious and you could point out something to him. Great job. I subscribed to,your channel.
@@flight7fiddy742You noticed that too huh? Lol. Glad it wasn't just me.
Delicias
Mutton couldn’t resist the octopus jig! Thanks for an epic trip Viktor!
This was one of Vic's best videos yet. Great content, great production and editing, good cast of characters and the recipes are always the icing on the cake.
my favorite youtube fishing channel by far, nice to see all the couples together enjoying the food. well done
Vic, I can tell you are putting in TONS of work into preproduction. It's paying off!!! Great content.
Great trip from Marco. I moved from Miami to Naples in 1960. The fishing was great caught many big snook in Big Marco Pass. Loved the grilled yellowtail recipe. Your chef buddy really creates some outstanding dinners.
Excellent, clear video of those beautiful fish ! Really nice camera work! Man would I like to be there…who wouldn’t.
Your buddy that's a professional chef is so humble!! Awesome video
I worked on an 80' custom Viking with an enclosed bridge, extended fuel tanks and all sorts of other custom stuff, but that was based in Marco Island. We would run out to the gulf and fish for 2 or 3 days or run to the keys, gas up and head towards Mexico amd fish about 50 miles off the coast of the Yucatan peninsula. Then turn around and head back after about 5 days. We would catch so many grouper, snapper, marlin, dolphin, swordfish and our favorite was key west grunt or grey grunts. I loved fishing off Marco Island.
Wow, What a cool company. Amazing people give away products to ensure more fish survive. I took the class and was eligible for the free descending devices. And they will be used! Thank you
Thank you for being a part of the Return 'Em Right community!
Boca Raton native 61 years on digging your channel I’ve been surf fishing here since six years old I hope to see you on the beach one day that would be cool
Great to see Jaimes again! Wish I lived near wherever his restaurant is going to be!!!!!!!!!
My son idolize you, and he watches you every day all day long when he is not in school! We live like 2 hours away. Are you ever open to meeting my son, we always go out fishing at Sebastian Inlet!
Awesome!!! We just tried followed this plan for dinner tonight with some snapper from this weekend and it was awesome!! My wife loves that everything is a catch and cook. She also loves that she makes me cook it. But thanks for making them easy to follow. We really enjoy the videos.
amazing catch and cook! This is one of the best one’s yet.
Love it bro, there is no better feeling when you hookup these big boys. I enjoyed you and Ryan together fishing alway challenging each other. Take care from the tiny island in the Caribbean St. Maarten.
Awesome brother
You’re the best fisherman I ever seen 👍🏼
Hey vick, I know you guys do a lot of cooking at home but if you’re over this way fillet up a few fish and bring them over to Cocomos on Marco for dinner. I promise you won’t be disappointed.
LANDSHARK I LOVE U DUDE NEED MORE CONTENT EVEN IF ITS NOT UR always amazing quality viedos i just need more of you in my life !!!! pleaseeeee
Im as jealous as you are happy, with all those jumbo mangos and yellow tails lots of good eating there guys. How about dropping 1 or 2 off at my house, its been 3 years since ive had a fresh caught fish,LOLOL.!!! I GOTTA GET OUT THERE!
Watched this video a few days ago and saw the hose technique for scaling fish, thought "wow, what an idea". Caught some crappies through the ice this morning and thought I would try scaling them your suggested way. Worked great but my wife is really pissed, I guess I better wait and use that method in the summer outside.
I love when Chef Yames comes to the channel and cooks!!
#1 CCC channel
Here in Alaska, every boat in salt water is required to carry a deepwater release device of some sort.
Here in florida if you are fishing for deeper water species you need one.
In the Gulf of Mexico it's required to have EITHER a venting tool or descending device on board (I think you should carry both) when fishing federal waters for reef fish and in the South Atlantic it is required to have a descending device when fishing for snapper/grouper in federal waters. With that said, many anglers still don't know what descending devices are or how or when to use them... and many anglers don't know how to vent properly too. Hopefully we can help with that!
Ahhh, you’re in my neck of the woods….The Gulf Coast.! This ought to be an exciting trip. I learn so much from you. I’ve seen you guys cook so many snapper dishes and they look incredible. I’m kind of picky with the texture of fish. I told my husband I think I want to try it. You and Brook are my inspiration. Great video as usual, Tfs. Have a great afternoon.🤗
I'm not sure if you read these but I am so happy you have had few more recent videos that were not a month or two apart I LITTERLY CRAVE YOUR FAMILIES VIDEOS ( not in a weird way) thank you
Over the years I’ve watched catch and release of out of season species, and it make me question why you would fish for an out of season fish. I’m not talking about incidental catch, but intentionally fishing for an out of season species just doesn’t fly.
Many anglers don’t have the ability to properly release fish. I’ve see many sport fisheries ruined, so for me it doesn’t hold water.
I really liked your showcase of the descending tool/gear , That was very impressive. That seems like an excellent solution for successful live release of incidental catch.
Best fishing channel ever. Love all the teaching tips. I learn a lot from you. Thank you so much. Keep teaching us
Excellent fish I’m going fission with this captain excellent video I appreciate Nick Nick needs a channel :-)
Thts awesome thanks for giving the fish another chance great video
I'm from Jamaica and y'all inspiring me to go fish 😢
So I’ve heard arguments about venting ur fish, that it punctures their swim bladder so it can no longer inflate and swim up so there’s just a bunch of dead snapper grouper etc at the bottom of the ocean
Venting fish does work when done quickly and properly. However, there is a lot more room for error putting a needle into a fish close to its organs. What some studies have shown is that fish will often stay along the bottom a little longer and recover for a few days prior to resuming normal swimming/feeding behavior
Awesome fishing 🎣
I have cancer and have never fished in the ocean... thank you for showing such great times .. thank you
I hope it isn’t terminal so you can go yourself
I will never go
@@pittroadsixzeroseven i cant never afford to go .. all my money goes to pay my bills .. and I have a LOT of them ... but thank you
Always great to see Chef James!!!
We're in Pompano Beach, right near your home port. I'll be beach fishing for the next week, and may hit the pier. Wish me luck!
Nice fishing ,15 lb test, even better. Winner Winner fish Dinner . Filled up your cold well.
PRO TIP FOR PIN FISH FOR BAIT!!
Put two pin fish on a hook and they’ll bang against creating a bunch of vibrations and noise. Obviously if you’re in a super active spot like this you don’t need to do this. BUT if you’re having a slow day or fishing in the flats or new area it’s a great way to get hits. It’s worked for me for years!!
Those ... Sunglasses...are fire ! ... Blake love Costa Del Mar shirts .
Com'on LandShark... How about answering some of your Subs comments??? We respect that.
dude no one taking about that massive mahi that swam over top of the red grouper when they descended it
I think that's actually a nice king mackerel!
You and the fish guys needs to collab ifykyk
Yet another home run video Viktor and B 🤜🤛🫶💪💪
Sometime when you don’t want to anchor use a 3 ounce white bucktail jig with two trailing hooks pinched on. Put the jig hook through the head of the ballyhoo even with his eyes, bury the other two hooks in his belly. Cast out in the direction of your drift over your spot. Sweep up off the bottom and drop again. Pull around and repeat, no anchoring, easy peasy. Try it
We chum for blue fish in jersey the same way you are for yellow tail except we are anchored up
Thanks Nick!!
Awesome fishing!
Love your videos my brother 🔥🔥
Much appreciated!!
I would do anything to fish one day with this man.
@Text-Landshark-Outdoors 🖕🏽
Nice super big fish
Great video
My jaw dropped when I saw that mangrove 😮
Really wonder about the mortality rates with these devices
It varies by species and depth, but a study from 2021 that tagged red snapper with electronic transmitters that were released in 120' found that roughly 87% survived when descended. Another mark-recapture study from this past year showed 2-3x higher survival rates (or recapture rates) for descended red snapper and red grouper than vented ones
Love your videos
5:32 how is that descending device calibrated to release at 100ft? Is it the pressure or is there a line you have hooked up to it or what? Really neat tool and I like it a lot!!!
I love Grover’s!!! What a stud!
Yooooo love your videos
Great video 👍🏽💙 that kid from moving weight looks so much like my Italian children and friends that it ain't funny Victor, is he Italian? Anyway nun ti preoccupá 💜🇮🇹
Nice one 👍🏻
🙏Wow...... just amazing 🙏
That bait, was that Sarpa salpa? a Hallucinogenic fish
Used those 4 years ago in Alaska, work better then the needle
What a great day and catching awesome fish and so refreshing do not be getting sharked
Yo from your boys in SAN DIEGO CALIFORNIA USA 🇺🇸
Looks like you were on a cape horn 32. What did you think of the boat? I am trying to decide between that boat and the contender 32.
you flip your fish every time you cook it on the grill? i typically just grill it skin down and find the results amazing
What a day 🤙👏
What happened to Brooks fish that was ripping line?
Look so nice! I really like fishing best,
omg nice pop in at the end MOULSSIEEEEEE is back moving weight baby he looks tired as all hell musta been fishing all day with cheif!
Insane day out there!
What a good spot 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Oh My Golly Gosh!!!!
Those snappers we’re definitely on steroids cause they were MASSIVE!!!
I honestly can not get over how big were!! 😳 xxxx
Do you have a recommended setup for deep water jigging? If so, what do you recommend and do you have a website where I can purchase it?
I have NEVER experienced a bottom fishing trip like that in the Gulf!!! Were you South/Mid/North Florida Coast? I think it is safe to ask that question??
Barotrauma looks agonising
Is that a legal hook for Florida Gulf waters?
"Gulf of Mexico
Atlantic
State Waters
On board a vessel, must possess and use:
Non-stainless steel, non-offset circle hooks when fishing with natural bait
Dehooking device
NEW: Descending device or venting tool rigged and ready for use (effective April 1, 2023)"
I prefer to use a weightless hook on the pinfish, yellowtail don't go after them to begin with, and sometimes the jighead scares away the bigger mangs
Chef has a teardrop tattoo because he killed that dish. Looked great
Greetings, seniors, please let us follow this fishing trip through the video
I have never seen a fish with it’s stomach out of it’s mouth
Then a shark comes to eat the released fish😂
best fishing
What’s to keep the sharks from grabbing the fish you send back down?
There's nothing stopping them besides the fact that the fish act differently on the way down. Sharks are most often attracted to a struggling fish that is vibrating and fighting for its life. The fish aren't acting that way upon descent. We send a camera down with 90% of our drops and haven't had a shark eat one. It's certainly possible, but far far less common than you would expect. There's an ongoing study releasing fish with GoFishCameras and descending devices across the Gulf of Mexico and only 1 out of 464 fish were eaten off the device by a shark and one other was eaten by a dolphin shortly after release (preliminary results).
We need Yames' info please!!!
Alright who is the internet sleuth that can tell me what knife chef is using at 32:20
That mutton was magnum size 👀
and it floats belly up a couple miles from where ur fishing 😂
I knew the R word was coming, lol.
Them: How much click bait do you want?
No one: Yes
Yes sir
Brother hope you're doing okay!
Is there data on fish tagged and vented? Or is it the usual bs?
Water pressure
open year-round in the gulf for red grouper
Red grouper closed on July 21, 2023 for the rest of the year in the Gulf of Mexico due to a quota closure. That's why we had to send those fish back down!
myfwc.com/media/20441/quickchart.pdf
Hey its Adam and Anica
I like going after big black grouper, they are such hogs to drag out of 100ft of water.
The reason I ask this is because you need some alligator videos
Needs to be limits on big mangroves,it's called depleted fishery
A stock assessment (SEDAR 75) was actually done on Gulf of Mexico Gray Snapper (mangroves) this past year and the stock is not undergoing overfishing nor is it overfished. The spawning stock biomass was much higher than needed to support maximum sustainable yield. To sum that up, mangrove snapper populations are doing great in the Gulf and a solid option for a sustainable fish to eat. With that said, we did not keep our limit and released some too.
