Now my quastion is: im 5"11 tall n i need just 3,9 inches to dunk.. earlier in my life when i was lyk 17 i could n now im just 20 and i simply can't. .. don know why! Bt maybe bcoz of the long time I've spended in europ and lyk 2 years i didnt have any training or gym just workin! Ill b so happy if some1 could now help me to get to dis level i been in earlier in my youth =d I started now again to play bball bt still cant jump dat high anymo n id really lyk to get it! Hi, why is it that sometimes i can grab the rim with one hand and other times i can only get my finger tips at the rim? Also, if i do leg exercises one day will my hops be the same the next day or do i need time for my legs to rebuild muscle?
Oh, I think my orthopedist would disapprove. The best way to train without creating heavy strain on your joints is by doing strength exercises nice and slow - then practice the technique seperately in order to get that inter-muscular communication right.
Of course you should jump - by performing the full technique with an appropriate landing on both feet. Not off just one foot! The reason I am so sensitive to this topic is because I do have orthopedic issues since a very young age and had to be extra careful with it. I am wearing an elevation of about 9mm in my right shoe - because my left leg is longer than the right one. Doing the wrong exercises (especially those that require twitchy, rapid moves) will quickly result in one-sided strain and give me a pain in my hip. When asking my fitness trainer at the Gym about how to increase my vertical he told me that there are two elements to the explosive power that is needed for jumping: 1. Strength 2. Technique. He told me that it is beneficial for my joints to do the strength exercises as slowly as possible so I really get to utilize all my little muscles and push them to their limits - the momentum should be as low as possible when doing strength exercises. He told me that I should practice the technique separately - and he recommended to simply play the game and train lunge-steps to achieve that. As for my vertical, I am 1,81m tall and can grab the rim with one hand when doing a lunge-step and jumping off both feet - I can dunk with a tennisball.

Contraction Strength (anaerob) by pushing, pulling or lifting heavy weights. 2. Static Strength (anaerob) by holding low weight. 3. Stamina (aerob) by high repetition with low weight. Then there's intramuscular coordination (within one muscle) by straining it specifically and intermuscular coordination (between different muscle groups) by performing the technique slowly - then faster until you master it. Explosiveness is a combination of Contraction Strength and Technique.
learn to walk before you run. Putting up a video of me jumping high will do you no good. Appreciate a video breaking down HOW to jump. Trust me, the "jump for height" vids are coming :)

by doing drills and learning how to properly train from a coach willing to teach you.. If jumping high came from just watching people who jump high jump we'd all be flying...
squat, too easy? squat weights hip raises on one leg lying down, too easy? hip raise weights do lots and lots of sprints if you have the facilities sprint against a resistence band plyometric jumps, keep jumping...everyday...the more you do it and wear your muscles down, the stronger theyll get, make sure to do stretches to prevent injuries and get the most out of explosiveness P.S. Peter Kraus Understandable but I respectfully, and GREATly disagree with the advice you received. No one become explosive from moving weight slow!

Yes, get dorsiflexion and jump off of your punch pad. (ball of your foot in a dorsiflexed position) You'll notice a great difference.
