Did you use the Metra double din kit as a base to build a mount for the Nexus 7? I'm going to do this with my 98 Infiniti i30 soon. Except I plan to mount a single din head unit where the drawer is at currently.

No I didn't use a dash kit because the stock unit was a perfect fit for the tablet, the only modifications made were to the four mounting post for the radio, I filed them at a bevel just at the base in order to slide the tablet into the space from the top, somewhat like a groove.
