    Hi Jeffrey.
As a publisher of virtual instruments and banks (mainly for Kontakt), we try to offer updates to keep our users happy. Our biggest problem is a lack of feedback from musicians. In fact, it's very difficult for us to know what's going wrong if nobody tells us. So please, continue to give us (editors) your opinion and feedback. While others ignore it, some try to listen to their users. Don't give up.
Thank you for your videos, it's precisely thanks to musicians like you who explain at length and in detail what goes right and wrong that we can move forward.
    Cheers. 👍

Great video! I've never subscribed to any sample libraries or daws for the reasons that you mention here. Being somewhat new to the world of synths and music production. I like to keep my library small and slow growing, as I easily get overwhelmed. Heck, I haven't even checked out half of the plugins and sounds in Ableton 12. Eitherway, I've actually gotten rid of almost all of my entertainment subscriptions. Got no video streaming going on, just have Spotify (which I'm slowly moving away from as I'm building my music collection). And it's a freeing feeling, I find it nice to not have access to everything all of the time, leaves more time for music/reading/hobbies. And all those small subs really eat away at your wallet.

The p.c. I'm using to record my music and my clients' productions, has been the same since 2009 with only minor hardware upgrades and it runs on Windows XP. I run Adobe Audition for multitrack audio recording, Wavelab 3.0 for mastering and no MIDI. I only use 4 hardware synths plus real instruments (guitars etc) and all of the above work flawlessly for the last 16 years. No MIDI, no VSTs, no subscriptions, no feelings of entrapment, no fear of losing what was never mine and, most importantly, no money unnecessarily spent.

That's really amazing. You sure are saving money. I always liked XP, very stable. Thanks for the comment.

    Yes, I agree with you.
Although the subscription model can be useful to some people, this whole trend could easily make people spend loads of money on all sorts of subscriptions, without ever owning anything.
The big difference of owning is that continue using that product is no longer dependant on the available monthly budget in order to keep using the product.
Life isn't always predictable, and anyone who's using a subscription for professional use, it means that those tools may become unavailable to work.
Although that's not so important for anyone who only uses them as any other hobby (like myself), I still stay away from subscription models on virtual instruments.
Just like hardware synths, I prefer to have/buy it.
I spend the money once, and I don't think about it ever again.
Just because there's a new DAW, sample library or hardware synth, it doesn't mean that I need it! 😉
I don't need dozens of libraries, I only need those that work for me, and that I also put the effort on learning how to get the best out of them.

Just getting a chance to watch.Wonderful episode as usual.Since you mentioned hardware hopefully you are at NAMM to see the BX1 from Behringer.Imagine that with a built in stereo sampler, at final launch, which has state of the art sampling for the time with ability to upgrade the technology.
    Best wishes as always.

UVI Falcon also has a one-time purchase option for their sample libraries. They have some really good stuff.

    Very interesting topic!
I'm on two of the better value subscriptions around, the kilohearts and melda ones. I heartily agree that "subscription only" is bad for consumers and to be avoided wherever possible (although sadly there's a trend towards subscription based online services).
I also think you're bang on with supporting companies who run things favourably to consumers. I will happily spread the word far and wide about companies that go out of their way to be friendly, for example Toneboosters is exceptional value for quality plugins, let alone the gracious unlimited time demo etc.

There is the matter of necessary compatibility updates, especially for Macs. If you close off your computer and stop updating anything in it yeah you could use it for a while, but anything you update in it will cause incompatibilities with other things. There’s also the matter of keeping the company in business, so they’re there to host it when you need it to download it again on a new computer. This wasn’t strictly necessary when plugins & sample libraries were small enough to fit on cheap physical media, but those days are mostly gone. Hardware units are not without maintenance costs as well, and you risk being down for months while you seek out parts or expertise to repair them.

Agreed. We've all updated a DAW or O/S just so we can run something new that sounds good. Thanks for the comment.

Also I just got a notification from Microsoft that Microsoft 365 cost have just gone up on a per month and yearly basis. Fortunately for my clients I have found an alternative of Microsoft office full version with the plus version for $29 for three licenses. If I were to stay on Microsoft 365 after just a few years I would be paying them around $500 for my wife and I, and now we're going to pay $29 for those next few years for version Office 2024 which will last a good long time.

My solution is simply NO to sub. That's it. Simple for me and helping everyone to rebel that nonsense sub-only model.
Totally agree with you. I made music on my dried out guitar, on iPhone, now 4 analogue synth I totally ...... the point I learned and enjoyed life a lot on a way.
.... and haha I have Adobe DVD CS .... .that was last time I used it LOL

Spitfire doesn't fix most of their products. Noise, out tune samples, mismatched velocities or round robins. also they screwd up LABS making it for profit and subscription. Having one player for library makes everything messy and slow down the workflow. Platforms like sine, soundpaint or musio are way more efficient. Also they mute and delete criticism. Really dislike them. Orchestral tools has the best model: you can buy a la carte each instrument from a collection, every time you buy it detract the price from the collection and they continuously update and fix player and samples and the quality is way superior. A squeky chair is not a feature is a bug.
