Mama or Cancer should be reacted to songs by My Chem . Honestly i didnt hear this until last year but their live performance is one of my favorite go to's now and i typically love heaviet music
So many don't understand that the parade is death then to even to get that the reason death is coming as a parade to take him to the afterlife is because a parade is his favorite memory wow
Gerard Way told us to be the saviours of the broken, the beaten and the damned, and that misery and hate will kill us all-lyrics like this gave us all the stubborn determination to get through everything the next decade and a half has thrown at us.
Dude, I'm 56 and was a jazz musician through out high school and missed all the rock music. I've been rediscovering it since the 80s. My granddaughter introduced me to this song while I was sitting and mourning my wife in 2016. I burst into tears at one point but assured my granddaughter that she did good and listened to it again and again. Now one of my favorite songs.
57 year old guitarist who somehow missed these guys when this was released. Discovered them more recently through my daughter and can't stop listening to them. By the way, if you get the chance to see them live, their live show is AMAZING!
I grew up listening to classic rock, and the most mainstream stuff. The first song I ever chose for myself to add to my mp3 player was Boulevard of Broken Dreams. I didn't get into My Chemical Romance until 2012 or so, and I was graduating high school by then. This album was the first I ever bought, specifically for this song.
this song deff hits hard, i cant listen without crying. the amount of death I have had to deal with has been a heavy burden but this is a song that hurts and helps at the same time
That marching snare outro hits different when you realise that section of the drums is the temptation to let go and join the Parade. And it's the last notes we hear as the song fades away.
But isn't it inevitable? That idea that you're eventually going to join the Black Parade, and that we all have the responsibility instead to resist the despair that comes from everyone we know and love joining? If anything that fade-out sort of represents to me the Parade leaving with your loved ones, but you resisted the despair and let them go in peace.
I was 16 when this group dropped this. Im 31 now. Still this hits me. To add a little. Two years before this song came out my father passed away. At the time I didn't know what I felt about the situation. I wanna say these guys helped me somewhat.
You nailed it when you recognized the black parade was death. The whole album centers around the idea that when you die, death appears to you as your most powerful memory in order to ease your transition into death. You analyzed it perfectly. The characters most powerful memory was that parade when they were a child. The whole album tells the story someone's descent into death and him looking back on his life and coming to terms with it.
@@ChristopherJames1993 Right. That cancer patient that's looking back on his life as he's descending into death. You might wanna learn to look deeper into things than just the surface level before you try telling someone that they're wrong. Look at interviews with the band or just use your own lyrical analysis. They literally say what it's about lmao
I'm 34, this song is the bohemian rhapsody of my generation. Brian may performed with MCR at reading and leeds in 09 and also confirmed the level of anthem of this song
MCR is my absolute favorite band of all time. I'm a 40 year old mom so it didn't come out during my teenagehood. Now my oldest daughter loves this band too so we bond over it together.
I'm glad to read this kind of comments cause I feel like MCR's legacy was left in good hands and still goes from one generation to another. I'd do the same thing if I had a kid, you're doing great!!
Goddamn.. I cried watching someone watch this for the first time and understanding the power behind it and appreciating how epic this is when this is so nostalgic and close to my heart.
A lot of people how called this the “Emo ‘Bohemian Rhapsody.’” And with the complexity of this song I can appreciate the comparison as a fan of both bands.
Brothers Mikey (guitarist) and Gerard (lead vocals) Way, were the heart of this band. Gerard live was a force of nature. He is now a comic book writer and creator of The Umbrella Academy.
My Chemical Romance: Gerard Way - vocals, Mikey Way - bass, Frank Iero - rhythm guitar, Ray Toro, lead guitar, Bob Bryar on drums. The album of the same name was a concept album (and you are definitely right about performance!) Each of their albums have a some kind of story to them. Three Cheers from Sweet Revenge was the album before this, bangers all the way through. You HAVE to check out Mama, Liza Minelli has a feature! It's wild and it's awesome.
You definitely started with their best song first, but I still highly recommend checking out Helena and Ghost of You. Side note I would've taken you for an elder millennial. I know I'm technically an elder millennial even if I feel more like an xennial (definitely not gen x).
also considered best song of 2006 not 2009..... Oh and I have decided to bring my daughter in to do the reactions to Helena and Ghost of you THANK YOU!!!!!
@@OldSkuleNerd more death to come then! Helena was written about Gerard's grandmother who passed and how he wasn't/didn't spend as much time with her in the end as he could have. Her name was Elena, but people called her Helena. I believe that info is right. Can't go wrong with Revenge era MCR!
@@OldSkuleNerd did you ever do those reactions, because I haven't seen them in your uploads? I ask specifically, because Ghost of You is my favorite MCR song
Great reaction! People are going to suggest their singles (understandably), but I'd highly recommend House of Wolves and Mama (both from The Black Parade). Ideally, listening through the entire Black Parade album would be amazing but I know it's a difficult reaction to listen through, edit, etc. Also, each of their albums sound way different from one another. Black Parade is definitely their most "rock opera" album. Thank you for this- MCR was a big part of my adolescence and is always fun to listen to.
Honestly this. Their singles are great but their albums definitely turn into masterpieces when listened to as a whole, since they all tell some kind of story (The Black Parade just happens to have the most clear narrative). Not to mention that the *worst* MCR song would still be a pretty solid single by a lot of other bands.
I'm 63 and this was my most listened to song of 2022! Had teens when this came out and have early 20's now. Band from college '78-'82 that are classics now and continued to be open to new bands until my 4 kids listened to their fans. Now instead of birthday gifts, we all go to concerts on my husband and I. Three times 2022-23 for Falling in Reverse.. We even went to MSG for A7X with FIR for our anniversary. Welcome to the Black Parade is on practically all my playlists. You might enjoy The Umbrella Academy series written by Gerard and Mikey Way, the lead singer and the guitarist (brothers). You're not old, just catching up.
This old school girl missed it to lol. I was to caught up with 80s rock and Nirvana. I have only just discovered My Chemical Romance through my daughter. They have led me to discover Thirty Seconds to Mars and Silverchair.
Man I don't think I've ever seen anyone pick up on the thematic elements here as fast as you. You're absolutely right - according to Gerard Way (the singer), the idea of the song is that when a person dies, death comes for them in the form of their fondest memory. In the case of the Patient (the name of the character in the bed), that was his dad taking him into the city as a kid to see a parade, hence why death comes for him in the form of the Black Parade. My personal headcanon is that this song can also be interpreted in a way to be about 9/11. "The bodies in the streets," the imagery of the skeletal walls of destroyed buildings, and of course the fact that MCR formed in the first place after Gerard Way personally witnessed the collapse of the WTC towers (as he happened to be in Manhattan that day) all lend credence to that idea IMO.
I agree with all of the recs here. House of Wolves Mama Helena Ghost of you I don't love you You might even like I'm not okay. Amazing reaction! Thanks!
This is maybe the first reaction to the song that understood the meaning of both the video and song on the first go. I don't judge people that didn't get it (I certainty didn't my first listen) but it's so refreshing to see someone just get it.
I was going through a very strong depressive state and MCR's music and Gerard's lyrics were better than any therapy, all the anger, sadness or any problem I had went away when I euphorically sang these songs. That music don't incite something negative as many said at that time, it was a medicine for many mental disorders. They helped me a lot, I am strong now.
I mean, if we going down the My Chemical Romance hole. And trying to understand the message they sent, we gots to go with: Helena. The entire Black Parade album is all worth a listen. And their second album is super creative in the instrumental stand point. But my other recommendations would be: Mama, Famous Last Words, it's not a fashion statement it's a deathwish, Sleep.
Great reaction. My sister used to have some of the words tattooed on her arm. We played this at her funeral 10 years ago. I love the song but it’s an anthem that also makes me cry.
They're headlining the Aftershock Festival this year in Sacramento, along with Metallica and Limp Bizkit. My Chemical Romance was probably the last band I listened to in 2000 - 2010. After that I just lost interest in rock and metal, until BAND-MAID and BABYMETAL came along.
This reaction had me smiling so hard, it genuinely felt like I was hearing it for the first time which is crazy because I’ve heard this song hundreds of times, I skip it a lot nowadays because it’s so familiar. Watching this had me hearing things I’ve literally never heard before in the song. So cool. Also you were so spot on with the symbolism in this! It’s not super covert in it’s metaphors or anything but you even picked up on the “best memory” bit and that’s great!
Fun fact: whenever I wake up hungover after a night at the bar when I haven't bothered to wash my makeup off before bed, I always make the same joke. "Oh no! I fell asleep in my eyeliner and accidentally joined the black parade!" Also, I am really happy you enjoyed this. It is definitely the millennial Stairway to Heaven.
There are many biblical aspects in most music I listen to. I am Christian so that’s generally the music I connect to. In the Bible it also mentions trumpets sounding in the end which some could interpret as a marching band cause why would it just be one instrument? There is also teaching in the Bible that death is sorrowful but should also be celebrated for they go to be in heaven with God. I love finding Christian themes in secular music. Also, this WILL be playing at my funeral!
I listened to this song, over and over, after my mother passed. It's pure, raw emotion, beginning to end. It still manages to drag a few years out of me every time I listen to it. You nailed it, man. Good reaction.
Glad you keyed in on the guitar playing, there are so many tasty little phrases and licks they weave through the rest of the music, and ties the songs movements together. "Are they gonna escalate?!?" Oh yeah, they're gonna escalate
Amazing reaction!! Fun fact: a lot of the drums were actually recorded by Frank (Cheech) Iero Sr (The rhythm guitarist's father) who is an amazing drummer, and especially plays jazz songs
Sorry to chime in but i do believe Bob recorded the whole record from their time in the paramour mansion all the way to the final studio sessions. Problably Franks dad played on Danger Days when they didnt have a full time drummer anymore or maybe all the way back to bullets, Matt the first drummer want very good at keeping time.
@@TheFortressofficial Bob did record TBP, but Frank's dad did additional percussion for welcome to the black parade. He, among Linda Pricolo, Donna Lee and Donald Way who did additional vocals for mama, are credited in the album. Bob demoed a couple of Danger Days songs, but it was John Miceli the one that recorded the tracks for the album and I believe Dorian Crozier recorded 1 track
I keep coming back to this video after all this time because it's one of my favourite reactions. This was THE jam back in the day and this dude gets it. Still one of my favourite songs
You should do reactions to the black parade album which this song is part of. It tells this story of "the patient" who is dying from cancer and his struggles and so on. My favorites are "welcome to the black parade", "dead!", "I don't love you" and without a doubt "famous last words" that one is a banger!
There are a few songs that just make you stop and you drop your jaw as well as get chills simultaneously when you first hear it and this is one of them.
This is still my favorite song. First time I heard it I was driving down I-75 near Tampa and it hit me hard. Cliche as it might be, I want this song played at my funeral.
Thank you for the reaction, I literally started listening to this song yesterday and just loved it. I didn’t understand the meaning behind the song at first listen but your analysis definitely let me appreciate it better
lovely lovely reaction!! you really understood exactly what it was about and i love that, and i relate to you heavily about discovering rock and metal so late - last few years have been a musical journey for me but it's amazing that you can experience things at any point of your life! rock on dude!
I was a bit older than most MCR fans when this hit.. but my Dad died a couple of years earlier... and several other people around me died also.. this song spoke to me... there is no age for good music... and there is no style.
2000 to 2016ish tons of bands emerged and it was a great time to be a rock, punk, alternative, progressive, among other rock fans🤘🤘🤘. I would even bet this was the era in which Guitar Center became the massive entity it is now.
In some countries. During funerals there is this sort of "parade" when the deceased is transported from the church to the graveyard. And I think the Black Parade is referring to that.
I was a 90's goth as a teen, so the emo phase wasn't something I was into at the time. I hated MCR, which I got over, but I could never deny that this song was amazingly written.
3:16 we come here to see your reaction, not the video. 99.9% of us are here to relive the reaction to the first time hearing songs but we cant if we cant see you ❤❤
I went here knowing I first heard it in 2006 when I worked in Spain as the much younger guys I shared an apartment with used to play it all day and night. It certainly did my box in when he said 2009 when I'd returned to Scotland the year before???🤔
I've always looked at it as the black parade is the way the dying man sees death because as a child he has that comforting memory of his father and as he's dying that comfort is given form by this black parade so others might see all their family welcoming them or others may see something like a great memory coming to welcome them
I lost a very close friend to a sudden death situation... within one week this song was released. It b became my Dale anthem. I still cry when I hear it. It's too bad you didn't get to see their Welcome to the Black Parade tour.
So glad my boys kept me up on so much good music in the 90s to now! I don't know all of it but I know a lot of these ! The three of us scream this song in the car together!
holy shit, you got the concept on your first try! :o you should be very proud of yourself because most reactors don't catch on this quickly. MCR has plenty of good songs, but i think you should check out "House of Wolves" (as other commenters have suggested) and "This Is How I Disappear"

Amazing reaction!! Fun fact: a lot of the drums were actually recorded by Frank (Cheech) Iero Sr (The rhythm guitarist's father) who is an amazing drummer, and especially plays jazz songs
His father was one of the last people to see John Lennon alive
@@magggmae really?? wheres the proof ive literally never heard this anywhere before
@@heyjude6680 there’s a community news article about it.
I keep coming back to this video after all this time because it's one of my favourite reactions. This was THE jam back in the day and this dude gets it. Still one of my favourite songs
It takes so much air. So much.
This song is electrifying.
This makes me so happy to watch. Thank you for this.
lovely lovely reaction!! you really understood exactly what it was about and i love that, and i relate to you heavily about discovering rock and metal so late - last few years have been a musical journey for me but it's amazing that you can experience things at any point of your life! rock on dude!
I've watched this reaction near on 10 times now and I still enjoy your reactions lol
I was a bit older than most MCR fans when this hit.. but my Dad died a couple of years earlier... and several other people around me died also.. this song spoke to me... there is no age for good music... and there is no style.
The dynamics are awesome... going from punk-marching band, to straight punk rock, back to marching band...
This song gave comfort to anyone who's grieving.
ITS NOT JUST A SONG, ITS AN ANTHEM!!! DAY OF THE DEAD PARADE!!
2000 to 2016ish tons of bands emerged and it was a great time to be a rock, punk, alternative, progressive, among other rock fans🤘🤘🤘. I would even bet this was the era in which Guitar Center became the massive entity it is now.
Dude! I freakin love watching your reaction! I’m older as well (40) and my 4 year old is absolutely obsessed with this song
In some countries. During funerals there is this sort of "parade" when the deceased is transported from the church to the graveyard. And I think the Black Parade is referring to that.
I missed this too, just heard for 1st time at beginning of Clerks 3. I can't believe I missed this song!!!
Love this reaction. MCR is amazing at creating emotion in their videos and music. Should definitely check out ghost of you and famous last words.
If you haven't seen "Northern Downpour" by Panic at the Disco, please check that out
Lol the song is so iconic you can recognize this song with a single first note. 🤙🏽
I was a 90's goth as a teen, so the emo phase wasn't something I was into at the time. I hated MCR, which I got over, but I could never deny that this song was amazingly written.
yeah i totally missed it by dismissing emo as a kiddy thing back then
3:16 we come here to see your reaction, not the video. 99.9% of us are here to relive the reaction to the first time hearing songs but we cant if we cant see you ❤❤
By the way, Speeding to MCR? That's Na na na na. Based on the True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys comic by lead singer Gerard Way
I went here knowing I first heard it in 2006 when I worked in Spain as the much younger guys I shared an apartment with used to play it all day and night. It certainly did my box in when he said 2009 when I'd returned to Scotland the year before???🤔
"are they gonna escalate?"
u can bet your ass sir.
Best reaction to the song I've seen so far.
Easily my favorite reaction to this song. Really enjoy this channel
I’ve watched a lot of MCR reactions and I think you are by far one of my favorites
I've always looked at it as the black parade is the way the dying man sees death because as a child he has that comforting memory of his father and as he's dying that comfort is given form by this black parade so others might see all their family welcoming them or others may see something like a great memory coming to welcome them
Still my favorite reaction to this song/video. And I followed through to the additional reactions you did on the drummer, great stuff.
Wow..didnt think you had missed this too? Good, good..lots of good songs out there that we need you to do a fresh reaction of 😁
I lost a very close friend to a sudden death situation... within one week this song was released.
This is perhaps the greatest reaction of all time....
Really love how in depth you went with what you got out of the song.
You nailed the message and your not even Emo!!
I also love that you made the video larger than yourself. That’s a class move.
The Black Parade album is my favorite of all time. The subject matter, the crafting of each song, just beautiful.
the Best during it's time❤
My favourite little catch in this banger is the xylophone.
one of the anthems of rock music, especially of the 00s
holy shit, you got the concept on your first try! :o you should be very proud of yourself because most reactors don't catch on this quickly. MCR has plenty of good songs, but i think you should check out "House of Wolves" (as other commenters have suggested) and "This Is How I Disappear"
Somehow I missed this one, but I also wanted to note that 5 months ago you had 8470 subscribers. As of today you have 44.2k. Well done sir lol that’s crazy 🖤🖤
The whole album is an amazing story my friend.
What an amazing reaction! I loved watching you listen to this incredible song. The essential lyric in this song about death is 'we'll carry on'.
That's because Jason Alexander is a phenomenal drummer. He's an icon in the east coast scene. Look at him in the suicide file
I was 9 years old when this song came out. I'm now 24 and I still get chills when I hear it.
I am around the same age as you are, and I can tell you this whole album is amazing.
This is the Bohemian Rhapsody of my generation (26 years old)
I sure hope it gets played at my funeral. 26 now and who knows what life is left. MCR have always been one of my favourite bands.
So many people don't get these video or song...you nailed it. Great job. If you can handle it, Listen to Cancer by MCR. Have a hanky handy. Lost my dad to it, and I can't listen to that song often.
