Not sure if you said it BC I'm doing planty things while watching but one thing that can cause fungal infections is misting esp if you're heavy handed and it ends up pooling on a leaf. The only time your leaves should be getting wet or damp is of there outside where the wind and sun will evaporate the water quickly or when you're cleaning the leaves 🤷🏼♀️
what you said about the stuck leaves make sense, so I went to have a look at my healthy looking syngonium with 2 stuck leaves and voila! mealybugs. also the sticky stuff is normal for some plants, check extra floral nectarine if you are interested. From my experience, after bringing home a Philodendron (or any Aroid) purchased from a plant store, or bought online (shipped/delivered), and it happens to have a new leaf growth that has not yet unfurled or partially unfurled, that new leaf will remain 100% unfurled. Then sometimes (not always), the next one will also be unfurled. If that second one also does not unfurl and there is a third one already coming out, then I cut off both the first leaf (did not unfurl) and the second one so that the third would unfurl (100% works since the plant now focuses its energy on that newest leaf growth; and not struggle further; plus, the plant has already acclimated to its new home, and is not stressed anymore). If the second one unfurls, then consecutive leaves unfurl as well (again, from my experience 😊); and I just cut off the first leaf (did not unfurl).

this is so thorough, but so straight forward! THANK YOU!!!!!! I'm a baby plant parent and I'll be keeping this video saved so I can reference back to it! I got a little excited about my plant journey and I ended up with a small jungle before i could finish typing all the plants into google😅 so this is so invaluable to me, thank you again :)
Most difficult thing I did today was try to find a spot in my ZZ to put the water meter thing in. Like "no I'm growing here, here to, stop it!" It was a 2-3 on the meter in the spot it allowed so it's had a beverage now. Perhaps it wants Perrier or something carbonated since it's my diva plant 🤣
Such a comprehensive video, such invaluable information, omg, I feel so great now and way more equipt now to understand my leaves, hi from Trinidad and Tobago 🇹🇹 😊😊
What an amazing video! Can I add one more question? I noticed my Philodendron Brasil has been putting out smaller leaves in comparison to the leaves it had when I brought it home. It’s well fertilized and is not rootbound. As it’s a climber in nature, I’m thinking that the small leaves are due to how long the stems are getting, so maybe it doesn’t feel “comfortable” putting out huge leaves. Does that make it sense? Do you have any other guesses? Thank you!
I have a curry leaf baby plant and I'm noticing one problem since purchased, curry plant bottom leaves tip starts browning and I don't know why? what's the cause of it? Anyone can help me out to understand this and prevent this? I water and fertilize it regularly, so that's not the problem ig
Best advice I ever heard with a trouble plant that you’re almost done with: chuck it off your porch. I can’t tell you how many plants I thought were done, that I was done with for sure.. throw them outside and even in winter time and they GROW. It’s nuts. Try it.
I put a Begonia outside because I was done with it. Shockingly it did well in the Texas winter 😂 I did bring it in during our icing....n wow she started throwing out new growth like crazy!!
I was very excited when you mentioned brown tips and yellow leaves but then it was yellow first and brown later, i have an issue but its the other way around, my marantha kerchoveana is getting brown tips, then yellowing from the same spot until the whole leaf is yellow. Im glad I can rule out lack of humidity though! Ive been considering it but never actually bothered to check their ideal humidity 🤦 turns out my humidity should be just fine (we're currently sitting at 68%)
I have also experienced my plant pushing out another leaf before finishing to unfurl the previous leaf. It’s a baby white princess philodendron in my greenhouse cabinet that stays well above 80% humidity, so I know it didn’t get stuck due to lack of humidity. The stuck leaf and the one after it were smaller than the previous and I think it’s because I moved it to a different shelf that had less light. So I moved it back to where it was and I’ll see if the next leaf is bigger and unfurls without issue
I just discovered your channel and it’s awesome! You have so much knowledge and great presentation skills. I only wish I had found you sooner as I may have been able to save some plants.
My mind is spinning 😂 I thought the norm is if the tip of the leaf is crispy brown that means you aren’t watering enough? I think I may have to rewatch this segment 22:00.
I Hhad som leaves turning yellow on a philodendron. I took some tiny cups and tied it up higher and stuck it's air roots in them with a tiny bit of diluted water and fert. The yellow went away. But temporary.
I left a philodendron micans in my backyard for a little too long when i was unsure whether it had pests and when i brought it back in, it went into shock, and its leaves curled. Either that or it was heat stressed. Should i cut off all its leaves to help it restart or should i leave it alone?
This is the best video I've ever seen on leaves and their problems!! Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. It was especially helpful seeing the pictures along with the explanations of the leaf problems. Thanks again!! 😊
OMG this video is sooooo helpful and informative!! I got the answers to the questions i have had for ages! I have a small collection of calathea and some of them are having brown tips all the time however flowering at the same time so I know they are actually happy. Thank you!
Thank you so much! Just discovered this sticky stuff on my Calathea, Analque. After examining for pest several times, and finding no sign of anything, I was stumped. Then I watched your video, and realized that this is exactly what my plant is displaying...and after reviewing my watering journal, and listening to your explanation of water stress, I am sure that that is what I have here! Thanks for the banner that you added that said that calatheas can exhibit these symptoms as well. Super helpful to me. Thanks a million; your videos are top notch!
I appreciate that you all appreciate the time and effort that I put into my videos, and more importantly I appreciate that they are helpful to you all💚💚💚
I have an Elephant plant water was coming out of two leaves and I saw powder fungus on the same leaves. I do not understand why water was coming out of its leaves. What does it mean? Also, I sprayed my plant with hydrogen peroxide, soap and water solution. I NEED HELP!
just adding this here: my Calathea plants few months after they had been moved to Lechuza Pon got brown spots around the edges which in time managed to dry out the entire plant. I lost several Calathea due to this type of substrate but I don't want to remove it due to the flies which appear on the normal soil/compost. Any piece of advice in regards with over-fertilized soil? Thanks!

My elephant plant was doing guttation but there were brown circle and it started turning yellowing and drooping. Also, there was white powder on my baby. I sprayed her with hydrogen peroxide mixed with dish soap and water. The leaf looked like it was healing but I cut the leaf😢. Did I do the right thing?
Hi. I have pandan plants and kaffir lime that have some problems. The pandanus amaryllifolius has 4 small shoots stemming out from the mother plant. The mother plant is healthy but the all the leaves from the shoots have yellow blotches on them. I don't know what is wrong with it. The kaffir lime lost all the shine and the leaves are starting to yellow. It also has random brown tip. About half of the leave is brown. The top soil is dry but the moisture meter indicate the middle and bottom of the pot is moist. Although the leaves are browning and yellowing. The kaffir has 5 new shoots stemming near the base of the plant. I don't know what's wrong with it. Please help.
It’s hard for me to say without seeing the plant. I do offer video call plant doctor services via my website if you would like to book one. That way I can see the plant and ask you questions to help get to the root of the problem: www.alohaplantlife.com/plant-doctor
When it comes to stuck leaves; especially on those humidity loving philodendron put them in a overly well draining mix like pon or straight perelite and vermiculite or whatever and water them almost daily. It will simulate the rainfall as if it was under another big leaf. It atleast that's what started to work for me 😃
Hiya, I have a lady of the night plant, it started to have white and brown spots, they look really unusual, do you have an email address so I can share some photos l? I really don't want to lose my plant. I really appreciate your help
I have some tiny cuttings a friend gave me of monstera swiss cheese (I dont know how you call it) that is getting weird, the leaves are getting weak and losing its pigment pls help how can I send you a picture of it?
What about blisters on a leaf? Bought a Chinese Evergreen and after a couple of days noticed a blister on one of the top leaves. I cut the leaf off. What causes this?
I have a hibiscus i spray the pesticide to kill the mealy bugs and after it looks like dying all the leaves look curly what should i do to help it living pls tks romina from malta
I bought a gorgeous, huge orbifoloa and I washed it and set it outside not thinking and it turned grey and almost all died off in a matter of hours 😮🤦 I now have 3 orbifoloa because I couldn't let her die and bought more just in case 😂
New leaves smaller for the last 5 months with lower leaf on each stem turning yellow. (Philodendron) feeding 9-3-7 maintenance dose of 1/4 to 1/2 tsp per gal each feeding. I'm feeding all my plants the same. Slow growing plants are not doing this. So I'm wonderingbif it needs more. It is actively growing 3 ft tall. With numerous growth points. It is in a chunky substrate so there is no nutrients in the potting mix. Tons of new growth while 1 leaf at a time at bottom turn yellow blotchy at first then solid and soft...bottom of plant is now bare for about a foot. Thoughts? Last winter in the same window so not a light issue.
@AlohaPlantLife it's a Burle marx it's in a South East window, indirect in early am til about 9ish then filtered light for 4 to 5 hrs, then indirect again til sun goes down. Summer it was on a shaded porch behind a sheer curtain. Exsposed to very bright sun behind the sheer from about 1 to 3. It did grow slow when it was on the porch. A lot Less light. Took off once I brought it inside. But stil produces small leaves. I'm wondering with the extra light and growth I should up ferts. Everywhere else I read about burle marx sais it's a slow feeder. I checked out the roots and they are very healthy. So it's not root rot. My theory regarding more ferts is based on the idea that if I'm feeding other plants that are very slow growers with less light needs the same dosage, wouldn't it make sense that an actively growing plant that's 3 ft tall and getting more light, should be getting more ferts?? Also the burle marx is still a juvenile. So it's still very much in that weird curled stem phase of growth. Unlike more mature growth that does not have the weird curved stems. My thought process is that they are trailers by nature first til they reach something to climb. Being in a pot it is unable to form roots from the air roots because it's already vertical. If it was horizontal crawling across the ground it would have the opportunity to have numerous roots growing from its growth points which would more efficiently take up nutrients. But since it's vertical it's relying on just the roots at the base. I think it takes a lot more energy. But I have been afraid to dose more. What are your thoughts on my theory?
Thank you so much! This exactly the detailed information I was looking for! Saved that video and next time a leaf seems weird I’ll come back to it :) Have you ever considered doing a video like that about roots? Btw my pilea has slightly sticky leaves sometimes (!) but she is fine and thriving. I never thought about it as I’m still very new to the plant thing and these weird looking leaves could have had whatever weird texture, it wouldn’t have surprised me 😂 I was just like … oh, okay, this plant is sticky. 🪴
I have a root video on my list just haven’t gotten to it yet (I have a whole notebook of video ideas so it’s a lot lol). I’ll make a note to bump it up the list💚
Root burn or leaf burn (just want to make sure you meant root)? Root burn, no. I the only thing that would potentially burn your roots are things like fertilizers, perhaps some pest sprays if too much gets down in the soil, things like that.
My ctenanthes have been doing that “sticky leaves” thing every summer, I think they don’t like the heat 🤔 Talking about sticky leaves: extrafloral nectaries, especially on philodendron!
Very interesting video, but still i can't understand what is happening with my peace lily. This is my 2nd one. The first died from over watering i think, so am trying less watering this time every 7 to 10 days maybe and i fertilize every other watering. I have it 2 months now and the symptoms are: brown tips and sometimes with a bit of yellow, the new leafs are very soft and turn brown, new leafs never unwrapping. To summarize the entire peace lily is very soft and turn brown with a bit of yellow.
Great video, this is one for the archive! For me leaf tip browning was caused by my hard water. I switched to reverse osmosos water, and wow! They are looking beautiful, ever since then all leaves tips that have grown have not had it, not on the spider plants, or the areca palm, I'm so happy. (I just bought a 5 gallon jug and refill it for 25 cents per gallon 1x a week)
When I've got pothos and monstera they all "cried" the first week or so. The only plant I have that still cries is my philodendron Brasil and I don't know why BC I forget to water it until it's super light 😬 it's growing like crazy. Maybe it's sad I forget it. 🤣
I wish humidity was the issue with the defective leaf births! Ive been at 70 percent all summer and lost several pink princess leaves and bipenifolium leaves. The only thing I can think is if in nature they would likely be born in the actual rain to help lubricate the leaf sheath. I don't catch them at often as I used to in order to spray them and help the leaf be born, cuz I'm now an unregistered plant midwife 😳 when I was first coddling my plants I always caught them IMO it's a sign that not all hybrids should've been released when they were but money spoke, so at have plants that can't figure out how to keep themselves alive and that don't have stable variegation, making them doubly difficult.
For stuck leaves, a tiny drop of detergent or even soap free wash applied by the tip of your finger around the sheath above where the leaf has bulged out, then a drop of water to spread it slightly, wil make the leaf pop out almost with no further help. And no damage, unless it ws bulged too far and already split the stem. Just like a stuck ring on your finger😂. Love your videos and your generosity sharing your knowledge. Greetings from Central Queensland, Australia 🤗.
One other quick thing, I noticed upon close scrutiny of my beautiful plant that on those that had sticky stuff on the undersides, the plant has teeny tiny spots where it looks like the green color has just faded...doesn't look terrible, but it is there, where it was not when I first bought the plant, and this coloration does not exist on the newer leaves.
I was always told that yellowing but moist was overwatering and brown but crispy was underwatering. And if you get to the brown crispy stage and you water too much then your prime for root rot.
I’m a newbie and learning about plants. This video very helpful. I have an app on my phone that I diagnose problems with and any speck of brown (app says it brown spot of leaf rot). I pluck those leaves. Is this the correct thing to do?
Those apps are awful. I’ve tried all of them out and they all always diagnose everything as overwatering, underwatering, or pests. If your brown spots are rot or from a fungal or bacterial issue then yes remove them
So not all brown spots are bacterial or fungal? I guess that is what I was asking. Should I be plucking these leaves when there is a brown speck on them
One thing on the sticky leaves topic: some kinds of philodendrons produce nectar out of their leaves which makes them sticky and the plant does it to attract ants in the nature to help protect the plant. My philodendron pedatum does that for example
Thanks for this, Im designing a resort in the Philippines and I have hundreds of plants that im trying to learn how to take care of 😅 its so humid and hot here that you really have to stay on top of disease and critters.
? Not sure I understand your question. If you’re watching the video, you will know that it’s about plant leaves and what it means when they develop various issues, as the title of the video also indicates.

Ermagawd...this video is pure gold! I am going to watch this several times so I can take all this valuable info in...saving it to my favourites too 😊 🇨🇦 fan ❤
Glad it was helpful!💚💚💚
this is so thorough, but so straight forward! THANK YOU!!!!!! I'm a baby plant parent and I'll be keeping this video saved so I can reference back to it! I got a little excited about my plant journey and I ended up with a small jungle before i could finish typing all the plants into google😅 so this is so invaluable to me, thank you again :)
TYSM for this deep dive plant video! My tower garden was suffering until now lol
Glad I could help!💚
Most difficult thing I did today was try to find a spot in my ZZ to put the water meter thing in. Like "no I'm growing here, here to, stop it!" It was a 2-3 on the meter in the spot it allowed so it's had a beverage now. Perhaps it wants Perrier or something carbonated since it's my diva plant 🤣
Such a comprehensive video, such invaluable information, omg, I feel so great now and way more equipt now to understand my leaves, hi from Trinidad and Tobago 🇹🇹 😊😊
Hi! And so glad it was helpful💚
It’s nuts. Try it.
Probably not in Canada …. But uh thanks for the advice lol
I put a Begonia outside because I was done with it. Shockingly it did well in the Texas winter 😂 I did bring it in during our icing....n wow she started throwing out new growth like crazy!!
Loved this video thank you ! I was having Drea withdrawals 😂
I appreciate your hard work you put into your content thank you 🙏🏻
Lol! Thank you💚
I was very excited when you mentioned brown tips and yellow leaves but then it was yellow first and brown later, i have an issue but its the other way around, my marantha kerchoveana is getting brown tips, then yellowing from the same spot until the whole leaf is yellow.
Thank you and welcome to the planty fam!💚
My mind is spinning 😂 I thought the norm is if the tip of the leaf is crispy brown that means you aren’t watering enough? I think I may have to rewatch this segment 22:00.
I Hhad som leaves turning yellow on a philodendron. I took some tiny cups and tied it up higher and stuck it's air roots in them with a tiny bit of diluted water and fert. The yellow went away. But temporary.
Great stuff! I’m definitely going to save this one so I can refer back when problems strike.
Glad it was helpful!💚
Your videos are top notch. The best videos out there you know an amazing lot about plants
Thank you!💚
I repotted my Philodendron silver sword and all the leaves circled up and are dropping. They are looking really sad.
And I thought that relationships were complicated.😅

So glad I could help!💚
Another absolute gem of a video from you!❤ my plants thank you so much, lol
You are so welcome!
No. 1 leaf damage cause for me is moss poles tumbling down like dominoes 😄
That would certainly do it 😂
Saved! What a wonderful video! Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!💚
A lot of research and time went into this video, thank you so much for taking the time, it was extremely helpful! Appreciate all you do!
I appreciate that you all appreciate the time and effort that I put into my videos, and more importantly I appreciate that they are helpful to you all💚💚💚
great video! definitely a keeper for future reference! you are one of my favorite Utubers!
Awe, thank you so much!💚
I have an Elephant plant water was coming out of two leaves and I saw powder fungus on the same leaves. I do not understand why water was coming out of its leaves. What does it mean? Also, I sprayed my plant with hydrogen peroxide, soap and water solution. I NEED HELP!
Water coming out of the leaves is what’s known as guttation. It’s caused by a water imbalance and is the plants way of expelling excess water
This summer temp is inbthe 40° it's been 44° for the past 10 days
just adding this here: my Calathea plants few months after they had been moved to Lechuza Pon got brown spots around the edges which in time managed to dry out the entire plant. I lost several Calathea due to this type of substrate but I don't want to remove it due to the flies which appear on the normal soil/compost. Any piece of advice in regards with over-fertilized soil? Thanks!
I just released a video on fertilizer burn a few days ago Conquering Fertilizer Burn: Lessons Learned from My Stupid Mistake

Always glad to help💚
I have a few plants that have these pin prick size yellow/white dots. Like one or two dots on maybe 4 plants. I don't see pests and I can't figure it out. I fertilize them. What can that be? These are tropical plants in my greenhouse.
Are you on Instagram or Facebook and could send me a pic? @alohaplantlife
Without seeing a pic hard for me to say. Sounds like you might be overwatering though
Philodendron leaf meme 🤣🤣🤣🪴
This is such a good video.
Thank you!
This is the video I have been looking for!! Many thanks!! Love from Spain ❤
You're so welcome!💚
When it comes to stuck leaves; especially on those humidity loving philodendron put them in a overly well draining mix like pon or straight perelite and vermiculite or whatever and water them almost daily. It will simulate the rainfall as if it was under another big leaf. It atleast that's what started to work for me 😃
Hiya, I have a lady of the night plant, it started to have white and brown spots, they look really unusual, do you have an email address so I can share some photos l? I really don't want to lose my plant. I really appreciate your help
You can email at contact@alohaplantlife.com
I have some tiny cuttings a friend gave me of monstera swiss cheese (I dont know how you call it) that is getting weird, the leaves are getting weak and losing its pigment pls help how can I send you a picture of it?
You can send me a pic on facebook or Instagram @alohaplantlife
What about blisters on a leaf? Bought a Chinese Evergreen and after a couple of days noticed a blister on one of the top leaves. I cut the leaf off. What causes this?
Are you on Instagram or Facebook and could send me a DM with a pic?
This video is so good! Very helpful 👌 I love it! ❤️ 👏
I'm so glad!💚
I have a hibiscus i spray the pesticide to kill the mealy bugs and after it looks like dying all the leaves look curly what should i do to help it living pls tks romina from malta
It probably just had a bad reaction to the particular spray you used. It should bounce back if that’s all it was💚
I bought a gorgeous, huge orbifoloa and I washed it and set it outside not thinking and it turned grey and almost all died off in a matter of hours 😮🤦 I now have 3 orbifoloa because I couldn't let her die and bought more just in case 😂
I am trying to save my tomato plants as well as my roses
What type of philodendron is it? What direction is the window facing?
@@AlohaPlantLife yayyy thank you so much! 🥰
STUCK LEAVES: For me, it seems if I bump up the watering it helps these leaves along. After all the plant is taking in resources for "two" now.
Can your Alocasia plant get root burn while under grow lights?
Root burn or leaf burn (just want to make sure you meant root)? Root burn, no. I the only thing that would potentially burn your roots are things like fertilizers, perhaps some pest sprays if too much gets down in the soil, things like that.
Thank you so much. I've been starting my home plant collection and using picture this, but some of the diagnostics can be vague.
Soooooooo vague! Happy to help!💚💚💚
@@AlohaPlantLife it is!! Why?? Thank you for being you.
My ctenanthes have been doing that “sticky leaves” thing every summer, I think they don’t like the heat 🤔
Talking about sticky leaves: extrafloral nectaries, especially on philodendron!
That sounds like overwatering, but hard for me to say for sure without seeing it.
@AlohaPlantLife I will change watering from 10 days to 14 days and I will place it in a more sunny spot, because now not much sun see it.
I don't catch them at often as I used to in order to spray them and help the leaf be born, cuz I'm now an unregistered plant midwife 😳 when I was first coddling my plants I always caught them
IMO it's a sign that not all hybrids should've been released when they were but money spoke, so at have plants that can't figure out how to keep themselves alive and that don't have stable variegation, making them doubly difficult.
This video is absolute GOLD!
Thank you!💚
For stuck leaves, a tiny drop of detergent or even soap free wash applied by the tip of your finger around the sheath above where the leaf has bulged out, then a drop of water to spread it slightly, wil make the leaf pop out almost with no further help. And no damage, unless it ws bulged too far and already split the stem. Just like a stuck ring on your finger😂. Love your videos and your generosity sharing your knowledge. Greetings from Central Queensland, Australia 🤗.
Brazilian Skipper butterflies are the caterpillars that cut and roll Canna Lily leaves. Gotta treat them all spring and summer
Except when new leaf right
I was always told that yellowing but moist was overwatering and brown but crispy was underwatering.
Should I be plucking these leaves when there is a brown speck on them
@@melissaalexander1042 Not all brown spots are fungal or bacterial. If you’re not sure what’s causing them then cut them off just to be safe
Is this about you or the plants?
? Not sure I understand your question. If you’re watching the video, you will know that it’s about plant leaves and what it means when they develop various issues, as the title of the video also indicates.
@@AlohaPlantLife The video shows more of you and not the plants.
@@madelaine3209 Thanks for clarifying. I show plant examples throughout the video, but my video style on my channel isn’t full on voiceover. I really need an answer I’ve been researching so much recently why my plant is losing green healthy and new leaves. With dead ones like 12 leaves a day. it’s an English. Ivy has indirect sunlight and gets watered one times a week.
