I used 8 inch long jam screws because I live in the City of Atlanta.
Good point RICK... tradition screws provided simply do not provide enough support.. pretty easy to kick moulding off :)
FYI when the inside door knob lock is vertical it should be locked, horizontal, unlocked. Check All other door knobs and you'll find this is true. Yours is the opposite. (not correct)
Thanks Shirley :)
There's two rings that came in the box and the instructions aren't very clear on what there for. I can't figure out what they do. Anyway, good video. Thanks!
YOU are most welcome ,JACK :)
I had the exact same issue. You're video was a lifesaver. Thank you!
Hey James, YOU are most welcome my FRIEND :)
Thank you so much. This video was so much more helpful than the Schlage installation videos. I kept getting stuck with the same issue of the deadbolt not turning all the way to lock
Hey CONNOR, Thanks for watching my FRIEND :)
Just installed this knob and never had a Schlage with the feature where the door unlocks after you turn the inside knob. Had to make sure this wasn’t defective. And now I know. Guess it’s been a while since I had to put one of these on. They seem to last a lot longer than some other brands. Good vid, good install.
Yeah, it takes some getting used to :).. I hope this one lasts a good while. I will probably go with kwikset from now on.. I had a door handle w/ deadbolt installed on my door. A few years later the door handle fell off... they replaced it .. A great company that stands by their lifetime warranty :) Thanks, Duke for the feedback! I appreciate it. Have a good one, bro : )
Is there a way to undo that option? I want mine to stay locked. I have a special needs kid that I’m trying to keep inside and not running into thr steet
my outside piece doesnt snap in place, it just falls out. no idea what im doing wrong
hmm.. screws should hold it in place I think
@@ETPCYT it probably would have if my door was the right size LOL turns out the door i had was too narrow for the kit to begin with
oh wow..
why you change the lock on your door ?
Other one was getting rusty.. it was a cheap one :(
Tell me why am I having a problem what the hack I'm doing wrong the top lock ok but the bottom won't lock I'm turning to the right and left it just will not lock and I'm not helpless BROAD i put in lock before.
it locks but this particular doorknob unlocks it when you turn it.. so open the door.. lock it then try to turn the outside knob.. it shouldn't turn but the inside one will turn and unlock your door
Yeah, I don't like that the doorknob doesn't lock from the inside, and the screws and lock placement is different than most doorknobs. The screws were difficult to install due to the weird angle, and the Schlage directions were pitiful. Thanks so much for this, I would've persisted until the screws were damaged.
that's the old style you are installing which was easy. i just tried installing a new design.....LOL what a POS. About to punch a hole in the wall.
Hey MATT.. lol WHY do they mess with a good thing??? I understand the frustration.. just punch a pillow instead of the wall.. may not be as satisfying but easier to fix :) Take care BRO :)
Exceptional Helpful! Liked your heads up on deadbolt shaft placement, using original faceplates, etc. Thanks so much. Now to my door👍
YOU are most welcome my FRIEND
Great video, thanks for all your effort in making it.
Thanks so much :)
We installed the same set. Our door locks when the knob is horizontal just like in your video......WHY?? I could not figure out how to fix it. The knob should be vertical when the door is locked. Please help! I cannot find a video that helps..
Maybe this one is designed to be horizontal when it locks?
I was never able to lock from inside for months. My wife was "suggesting" I call a locksmith. At the 11 minute mark in your video, I saw how you turn the metal 360 degrees. Viola. Fixed. Now may wife thinks I am a genius! THANK YOU!!!
lol I am happy this helped YOU my FRIEND! Good working figuring it out :)
At time mark 7:24-25 of the video, where you snap the outside of the dead bolt into place, what were you doing with your right hand that is not shown by the camera angle ? I am having trouble with mine snapping into place and wondered if there was something that needed to be done inside the mechanism to make that happen.
Hey Tim, as far as I know.. (it's been awhile) I just used that hand to help push a little harder for it to go into place.. I hope this helps
@@ETPCYT I figured it out. Thanks for checking back.
Awesome. . I got all if it right but the Dead Bolt. . didn't realize I had to turn the internal mechanism to the right till it stopped.. .Thank you.
You are most welcome, Paul! Have a blessed day my friend
MEN DON'T READ INSTRUCTIONS! TAKE HIS MAN-CARD AWAY!
nooo... please.. :( hehe
NEVER BUY F SERIES SCHLAGE IT'S A BAD LOCK LIKE KWIKSET STAY AWAY FROM SCHLAGE F SERIES AND KWIKSET
now YOU tell me :P
Thank you… I was having the same issue, I was getting mad… you fixed it!!
Great! :)
Thank you very much. It is very helpful to "debug" way to install the lock. I encountered the same issue.
:) YOU are most welcome, SMYRNA :)
Thank you so much! I couldn't have done this without your video. The only addition I would make is that if the middle piece is too short, there's an adjustment to make it longer. I almost scrapped the whole swap out. Phew!
Hey Melissa, good tip.. THanks for that .. I will try to mention that next install I do :).. I always leave something out
what have a single cylinder lock on a door that has a window? someone could break the window and turn the latch
true true.. I figure if someone is desperate enough, nothing will keep them out of your house.. (drive a truck through the front door?) This will just hinder the thieves of convenience . Take care my FRIEND :)
From the bottom of my heart, thank you. I don't have a father anymore, nor do I have a boyfriend right now. I really needed this help.
I am sorry for your loss... I am glad I was able to help in a small way.. Have a blessed day :)
I am trying to install a Schlage doorknob without a lock and I am really struggling to get the screws that hold the knobs together lined up correctly. Any tips?
hi LINDA, I like to push one through.. while holding that side of the door handle flush to the door.. then line up the other handle and you should be able to see the screw end and guide it into the hole.. only screw it in a little .. then get the other screw in the same way.. then tighten them up.. I hope that helps :)
Why the hell do the printed instructions say, "Do not use the key" ? Poor technical writing.
Agree.. companies need to invest a little more in their instruction making department.. some are confusing at best :) take care BRO
Ok so I just have the door knob install. The problem I am running into is that the front knob wont turn. And as soon as I close the door it locks on its own. What am I doing wrong?! I don't want to have to carry my keys with me everytime I go out to water my plants
hmm..I am not sure what is wrong there.. it sounds like maybe a piece is in upside down.. I will take a look at mine and see if I can help..
Great Video Sir! Didn't even use the directions. Thx for going through the trial and error for us!
lol YOU are most welcome.. And thank YOU :)
Great video. I was looking to see if the popping open feature was normal, and looks like it is. Can’t find out what the benefit is for having it like that tho. I don’t like that
yeah.. I think I like unlocking it manually better than this way
Is there a way to make it lock on the inside and not open when you turn the knob? My original ones on my house do that but the new Schlage ones I got open when I turn the door when it’s locked
hmm not that I am aware of.. I think thats just how some are made.. I could be wrong...
I just installed the new one and I got to take it back in the morning I got to take it off. The plate on the knob the screws won’t hold it in place it’s popping off with ease. And yes they’re the right screws. Plus the plates aren’t sitting right.
odd, did you try rotating the plate and then putting it back in place?
I can’t get the long screws to line up with the holes on the key side. Help!!!
try pushing one screw all the way through.. you should be able to look in from the side and see the hole it can go into.. then gently hand turn the screw until it is threaded just a bit.. then get the other screw in the same way.. I hope it helps
Maybe they need to extend the bolt, it has 2 sizes, instructions show that.
I’m trying to install mine but the key will not unlock my know what can I do?
..that is odd.. I am not sure what would be the fix for that... I would take it back to the store and exchange for one that works? It should work
Awesome video! So I have run into some instant snags, the door hinges attached to the wall simply look they are attached to the wall and will not come out. The metal pieces are literally shoved into the my wall, any experience with this? I can’t install the new pieces until these come out. Thanks.
First of thanks for the comment and the compliment, James :) That is quite odd... I have never encountered any hinges that were not simply screwed into the door frame (and hopefully studs behind that). I am taking a shot in the dark here but is it possible that the hinge was attached at a different angle (for what ever reason) and the molding put on over the hinge so it appears as if it was shoved into the wall? That is the only thing I can think of.. I mean you would think it has to be screwed in somewhere and maybe that is just hidden? I hope this helps, Buddy. Have a good one. Let me know if you figure it out. It will help others with a similar situation :)
I need a door knob for the street entrance door of the house that doesn't have the twist lock inside, so I can only open it with the key from outside, what's the name of those kind of door knobs?
hmm... a one way handle? or single sided door handle? one sided dead bolt....
@@ETPCYT I'll try to explain it easy, the outside door where I live (the door to get in the house from the street) it have a deadbolt and a door handle, so the only way to lock it from outside it's locking the deadbolt outside with the key, but people that live in the house, they leave and just close the door and don't lock it, so I need a door system that when the door gets closed, it automatically locks and the only way to open it's with the key, like the door knob from the video but without the twisting lock from inside.
Great video. I tried the Schlage website for installation instructions, but YOUR explanation is MUCH clearer. Thanks!
Hello John, I appreciate the positive feedback! Take care!
I have the same issue with the dead bolt
This seems to be a fairly new design.. my house isn't THAT old :)
Thank you this helped me.
Happy to help out Ryan! Have a blessed day
Thank you sir very helpful !!!
:) you are most welcome, BRIAN :)
We had a totally different lockset, BUT, the deadbolt was the same, with this problem. Once we installed it, we could lock the door but then not get the key out. We could only lock it on the inside IF we had the key in the door outside. What's up with that? So we went to the college of RUclips and found your vid. The part about turning that piece that connected the inside to the outside of the deadbolt 180° and reinstalling was the solution. Whudda thunk? Thank you so much for posting this video - with YOU having the same basic problem we had concerning the deadbolt.
Glad to help out my FRIEND ! RUclips is always my goto source too lol
You should have the bolt extended when you insert your cylinder.
Good tip, Thanks so much DAVID :)
Thank you so much! This helped a lot!
YOU are welcome, RENEE :)
And it's schlage not slade.
yeah my bad :)
Thank you so much!!
Hi YVONNE!
Excellent video. I just installed the same set with identical door swing. The only problem is that to lock the deadbolt from the inside, one has to turn the knob to the left (towards jam) but to lock the knob also from the inside, one has to turn the knob to the right (away from jam). Tried everything to try to change the directions on the door knob but no success. Very frustrating and it’ll take a while getting used to as all the other Schlage combo in the house lock in same direction, twisting towards the jam.
hmm that is odd..
very frustrated! How in the hell do I pull apart the door knobs to install? They came attached out of the box.
Yesss!!! Help please!!
Nobody seems to have the answer to this
Very very helpful. Followed you step by step and everything was dead on. Made the install a breeze!
Awesome! I am glad this was useful :) have a great new year :)
Im jealous of your impact wrench
It definitely makes things easier for sure :)
Lights and shadows... How do they work?
light shines.. an object blocks the light creating a shadow
Thanks bro. I wonder why I had extra pieces
lol no problem my friend ;)
I just installed the same one and I was a bit confused that I could open it from the inside even though I thought I had locked it. I guess it’s just a new feature?
Yeah you have to be a bit careful not to lock yourself out. But if your house was on fire and you needed to get out quickly it is definitely a bonus.. :) have a great day and thank you so much for stopping by my channel!
I installed one and thought I was losing my mind. Not sure about this one.
R Cooper ha. Nah. You’re all good.
Doing it backwards? Lock & knob in 1st
not sure..
@@ETPCYT I am a finish contractor and you do it the other way in case you need use your latch against the strike to mark it w/o the plate should you need to chisel it to fit. Yours was fine however the last ones I installed required I use a 1” Forster bit and chisel the strike to fit.
I also use a roll around bench with tool holders and storage ?
After 4 or 10 u get sore!
@@zephyr1408 Very good tip my Friend! I do appreciate the extra knowledge from a pro :) I am definitely not the best at stuff and I am grateful for every bit of extra help :) Have a wonderful holiday season :
@@ETPCYT well I am just a guy who fixes stuff and builds. God Bless , Merry Christmas.
You did it wrong.
I do appreciate the tips :)
Why couldn’t you use the matching bronze strike plate?
The cut out of the frame was different.. The bronze strike plate was about an inch longer than the original.. I would have had to cut out more of the frame to make it fit.
ETPC EPIC TIME PASS CHANNEL Could you have done that anyway or did you just not have a chisel?
Hello, Kieran, I don't happen to have a chisel. It is an easy job just didn't have one available. Take care ;)
Trace with a sharpie and use a heavy duty box cutter like knife and score and shave it until it fits.
Don't quit your day job, that video is nearly useless. Too much unnecessary talking.
Hey, GREGORY, Thanks for the advice my FRIEND. I appreciate the input and I will endeavor to improve :) Take care!
@@SandiRemedios1 Thank YOU SANDI :) Have a wonderful day :)
Must not be if he has 70,000 subscribers troll. Helped me and others install theirs. How's your liver doing ? 😂
You’re rude. The video helped me and I appreciate it.
Kwikset is better
Thanks for the opinion :) I appreciate that. I have a kwikset on my front door and it is nice :).. I think more expensive too :)
It's more pricey because it is higher quality
@@ScantPear That seems to be the case with most items :) Thanks again.
