  • In this video, I'll show you how to find the (horribly designed) AC drain hoses on the BMW E60 / E61 vehicle. I did this to try to correct intermittent water "spitting" out the vents, but didn't definitively find a problem. I believe (hope) that the blockage was only partial, and that blowing compressed air up the drain lines removed any debris / dirt from the internals of the drain lines / flaps / valves. If you DO have a total blockage, you'll likely have a "sloshing sound" (from water trapped in your AC / heat box inside your console), as well as the water spitting behavior.

Found out that my issue came from the drains under the hood. I removed the cowl to get to them and cleared them with a water hose. No more water in my vents ever since. Now I can blast my ac/fan at any speed.

I've driven about 2000 miles since I did the job in the video, and the right vent is spitting a little water again, so I suspect the problem could easily be what you found (can't believe that water is accumulating the "AC box" inside the dash after blowing them both out). Thanks for the input - I'll check that on my car as soon as I get a chance.

Hey Mark. I'm trying to do this today because I'm getting a little water coming out of the vents when I turn on the AC and set it to a high level and also a little water on the passenger side carpet. I will let you know how it went.
