  • This is a list of all color guards who have earned a Perfect Score in Drum Corps International Competition.

90% of this video is just how sickeningly good the Blue Devils’ colorguard is.

These BD color guards are iconic. And what's crazy is, these might not be BDs best CGs. 2001 and 2003 are just insane! 2006, 2008, 2011, 2013 and 2015 are fantastic BD guards as well. Some argue that BDs 1999 CG might be the greatest guard in DCI History. Do it up Devils!!!

The high cam of BD 2017's show opened my eyes to the brilliance of BD's guard choreography. Everything that was heard by the corps was visually represented by the guard.

I'm curious. What's the opinion of contemporary DCI guard fans of classic traditional powerhouse guards of the '80s? 27th Lancers is still my favorite guard, with stunning precision and technique. Cavaliers were known for amazing feats.

I’ve been into DCI since 2013 for reference. I find today’s guard, on average, more enjoyable to watch. I think traditional guard is too militaristic for me, but I appreciate the technicality nonetheless and there definitely are a lot of entertaining moments. I do appreciate how in older shows it seemed like the tended to fit the guard to the form or put them front and center more often than they do now, where they usually relegate the guard to the back of the field. I feel like a lot of corps are sacrificing intensive marching for musicality, which is fine, so I usually rather like watching the guard. It just sucks when they’re in the back of the field during their amazing choreo and tosses while the rest of the corps is pretty much walking around or just planted in place. My favorite guard moments have to be featured where the guard is front in center or where they’re intertwined with the band, like 2011 Cadets’ opener, 2016 Crown’s opener, 2017 SCV’s closer, and most of 2000’s Cavies shows. Flag work especially is just so much more beautiful when the guard is closer together. I’m also a lover of symmetric drill, so Crown 2012 is obviously my favorite show of all time due to its intensive marching, insane music, and amazing guard (seriously they were underrated that year)

The late 70s-early 80s featured a short period of stunt guard work, some aspects of which are still seen today: equipment being tossed 10 yards or more to another performer, sometimes over the heads of the musicians. It looked dynamic, risky, and dangerous, and it seemed only the Cavaliers dared to do it.

One could say BD dominates in all captions. SCV gives them a fight for percussion and Crown doesn't go down easy in horns, but what they've put together in Concord is rather amazing. My good friend and mentor Jerry Seawright would be so proud.

SCV percussion and Crowns hornlines are better than BD. BD guard def wins tho, and I think BD have top 3 level percussion and brass consistently.

    • @totesgene

@@Sforzando_DCI A perfect score does not indicate perfection. A perfect score meerly means the judge ran out of room and had no choice to give the maximum score. It means the judge scored everyone else too high. It means the judge didn't do his or her job correctly. DCI judging is so flawed. IMO they give the placements right but giving perfect 10s is completely absurd. Perfection is absolutely impossible in any facet of this activity. A perfect score should never be given in any subcaption.

Your opinion does not change the fact that these guards earned perfect scores from DCI judges. The video poster asked out of these guards, which was the most perfect, and whether or not perfect scores should be given out.
