Hey Roman, saw your comment about the video tanking so far and there's something I want you to know. Your street photography guides are some of the best videos in the niche on YT. Whereas a lot of RUclipsrs get stuck in the philosophy of street photography and technical tips, you go beyond that with these real actionable guides. They're great not only for those of us who are planning to travel, but also just seeing a whole different country through the eyes of a foreigner is very interesting. Keep on doing these 🙌
Thank you! Not to worry these will be a firm part of the channel as these videos are my fav to make. The click bait tips gear crap will still be there to keep it growing
These street photography city guides are brilliant! Please keep doing them. They are so helpful when it comes to planning a trip. Love the way that you keep your photography real.
This cant be real. Days before I'm visiting Porto and Lisbon, you're releasing another Guide. Literally the same thing happened to me with your Istanbul Video. Can't wait to try out your spots again! Thank you.
Born and raised in Porto, I always get intrigued on how photographers see this city and my friend, you have captured it really nicely. Can't wait to revisit these places, I'm currently moving from a Canon 5D to a X-T3 only with a 23mm f2 (for now), I bet its going to be pretty satisfying with a new camera and mindset. Btw, those places that you recommend are just amazing! Daterra buffet its SO good!! 💚 Ps: surprised that you didn't mention francesinha! Eheh
I have been to Porto twice and agree with your suggestions, and you should add this to the list of suggestions. After seeing/photographing many historical buildings, I would switch to something modern. The Casa da Música. It was fun to photograph this building because you could shoot people interacting with it.
Great video Roman, I'm going to Lisbon at the end of January for 3 days and staying in the old town, and after watching this I think I'll be going to Porto.
Hi Roman, What a great video of a great city. Porto makes a great City Break from UK, we really enjoyed our time there and will definitely go back sometime. It's a very photogenic place and the Portuguese are lovely people. The food and wine is superb! I am a bit of Tram nut and the Porto Tramway Museum was amazing. Loving your RUclips presence! JPL
It’s a good point about street photography in Europe. I often go to Spain (in Seville right now) and I find it is often tricky as when I do get people in shot, it has caused me problems in the past (only ever had two aggressive encounters on the street - both in Seville…obviously just deleted images and didn’t get into a big argument!). It can make it tricky knowing what is and isn’t ok which I find tricky to get past. Much easier back home! Porto looks lovely btw! Been to Lisbon (loved it), not been there before. Will put on the list!
So fun to watch this one, almost describe my holiday accurately, now we have moved to Algarve for the rest of the holiday but Porto still holds the top list on my favorite places in the world!
Roman, thanks so much for this vieo. Porto and Lisbon too, are on my list to go to but this helps me so much to view the city through a fellow street shooter. Good stuff, keep it up ! BTW 7:37 girl in Red with amazing beautiful lighting, my favorite
I just got back from Porto two weeks ago and I recognize so many locations here! Love it. Yes, it was a street photography field day. Just crazy next level. Spent 10 days in Portugal and Porto was the final stop. I just finished editing our first full day of the trip last night, so Porto doesn't show up again for a little while, but I cannot wait until it does! That city was just beyond beautiful.
Super helpful and great pictures, especially in your last video! Will be there in four weeks and am now even more looking forward to wandering around Porto early in the morning. Thanks Roman!
I came across your channel when I was doing some street photography further south in Vila Real. It's a beautiful little town and a great place to re-start my street photography after a no-travel period. Your videos were really helpful to me and are the best I've seen. I'm looking forward to seeing Lisbon through your lens. Thanks so much Roman.
Oh, you went to C'alma . I work there but i wasn't there the day you shot this. Hope you enjoyed your stay in Porto. Very interesting street photography tips too !
Love it. I’d assume videos like this will do well as slow-growth burners as people find them through search over time. Who knows though… Fun to watch and hope to make it back to Portugal again one of these days.
Loved your view on my city! Don't be turned off by Winters here as they are amazing too, especially if you're by the Ocean (and yes, common sense by the lighthouses, always!). We get a lot of sunny days as well as moody ones. Many more places left for you to explore, so hope you come back again soon!
Awesome video, thank you for the tips! I'm heading to Porto soon and want to check out the restaurants, but couldn't find them on the map. Could you add them to the description? :D
Nice video Roman. I am looking forward to your videos from Lisbon as it really is a place I want to visit. I would love to ride those wonderful trams for a start.
So good to see this / just coming to the end of a few days here / as an abstract photographer I loved the city and particularly the incredibly colourful graffiti / great tips here / will look out for you in Lisbon next week!
I was stationed in Rota, Spain and I highly recommend heading down to Puerto De Santa Maria In Cadiz. Check out Discover Costa de La Luz and ask for Adrian for a local contact. So many rad spots from castles, city centers, seasides, as well as ancient cathedrals and mosques.
Great stuff, hope to get there at some stage? I'd also love to go back to Lisbon Ps: In primary school in the 60's in Ireland, we called Porto, Oporto when we were having geography lessons?
Unreal! Doing 2.5 weeks in Spain and Portugal this December and early next January. Probably won’t have as incredible weather as you did but I am definitely looking forward to it. Would you recommend Lisbon or Porto?
Really nicely done video Roman. It is a great resource for anyone who is planning a visit. Hell, I'm considering it just to eat at that vegan buffet! LOL! Beautiful footage, have a great weekend!

Hi I’m visiting Porto soon. So this video is helpful. May I know how you take videos and photos at same time. Which camera and lens you use for the video?
When taking photos of people in public places these is my rules. Portraits - Always ask permission, ask for their contact details (social media or email is fine) & give them your website or Instagram address. When shooting out in public spaces where there are people around generally you're ok so long as you don't identify anyone in the photos (unless you have their permission), there is no expectation of privacy in a public space - a good example of this would be a public event, if permission were needed to show pictures of a public event where members of the public are attending there would be none because you wouldn't be able to cover such an event without capturing random members of the public in them. It's really about common sense.
Great video again.Im sure its just me but would you be able to put the apsc(Fuji)alternative of the full frame lens mm you say just in the corner in a graffic?(33mm =50mm)Porto and Lisbon is my next location to visit. Will watch this again and make notes.
Great video as usual! When you go on those long shooting days, do you normally bring a bunch of primes and switch them throughout the day, or do you usually bring a zoom?
If I am doing a long day in one specific spot I will just bring one prime to remove decision making and weight. If it's just a few hours then I'd bring my 2 primes or my zoom
Hey Roman! I found you recently in RUclips and I am enjoying your videos so much! When are you coming to Lisbon? You will love to photograph the neighbour I live, next to Belém. I would love if I could invite you for a coffee if you have time. Anyway, I hope you enjoy. And will wait for the video of this trip. Have fun!
Thanks for the memories of our 2019 trip to Porto. I recognized a lot of the places in the photos. The Sunday market was very interesting & amazing the amount of items made of cork. Think I’ll open my photo album for awhile & reminice.Did you wipe off the salt spray from the X-T4 with a fresh water cloth after the pier photo?
Fantastically useful, thank you! I'm a bit confused though by the reference to the 24-70 zoom. Is that referring to a full frame lens, rather than what you are using on the Fuji (16-55)? BTW - I bought and love your presets. They're a great starting point for me with many of my photos. I typically put my own spin on them after applying, but they give me an interesting base.
Hi Paula, I'm not Roman but saw your query. Yes the 24-70mm zoom range he was referring to, is for full frame. I'm pretty sure Roman has the Fuji 16-55mm which is 24mm to 84mm as a full frame equivalent. . Roman's point though is you want a zoom in that kind of range. Hope that helps.
A great video as always and nice insight into Porto. Thinking of heading to Lisbon early next year for a short city break, so looking forward to your take on it. After seeing this I'll certainly look to getting to Porto as well, but hopefully for 4 to 5 days. The early morning set off on Day 1, how early was it? Thanks!
If you say 50mm Prime, is this Fuji Prime (so with crop factor, that a 50mm Fuji is more like a 85mm full frame) or is this allready in full frame translatet, so if you say 50mm you mean 50mm full frame?
Love your content, just wondering, have you shot with any other systems? I’m currently shooting Sony a7riii but I do own a Fuji x100v and I also have the TCLX100 for a 50mm equivalent focal length which I sometimes use on the Fuji. I really do like the way fuji images look and feel and the customisation with the recipes makes for a lot of fun for travel and street photography. I’m considering selling all my gear and switching to an Fuji XT4 or maybe XPRO3, the only thing concerning me is on my Sony I have the 135mm F1.8GM specifically for candid street portraits and I do love the shallow depth of field, however I’m a little torn lol. I know the whole story of gear doesn’t matter but when you have a creative vision the right gear certainly helps.
Honestly I have not properly shot with other cameras that are relevant today. I'm just not interested on trying different cameras. However from what you say, there is no point changing at all. Just money and time down the drain tbh. At least wait till the fuji XT5 that will be out next year as well as both the new XH2 cams and then make a decision. Deffo don't get an XT4 unless it is dirt cheap
