That singer is laying those notes on the back of each beat...amazing...and that piano player's chord voicings are complicated, but seamless in the grooving structure of the arrangement....this is a fantastic recording
This piano player is underrated! He did a fantastic job adding a funky style while holding the rhythm together for the band!

It's not so much the actual snare as the production. They (probably very purposefully) replicated that classic 80's mega compressed snare sound.
But yeah, it works perfectly for this song. Great sound.

It's even a thicker ring mute on top of a towel or some other cloth. That's an effective and intense mute technique.
@@TheBeeFactory that's a pretty organic sound! You can get real close to that sound without any post with the right drum, tuning and dampening. A bit of a bump in the 100hz range doesn't hurt tho
Wow. Everything is just so tight, restrained, and tasty, especially Ryan's fills. A perfect match for Jennah's vocals. Bonus for the spicy chords coming out of left field.
The vocalist was sensational.
Jake is always the comfy mood pianist in every pockets and stories track. I always love seeing him and hearing him in both worlds.

This was one of my favorite Scary Pockets performances in a while. Covers of this song are overdone and tired for me, and I honestly was apprehensive about another cover of it. Most try to match that frenetic, high energy performance from Daryl Hall and it comes across as breathless and anxious -- few people can pull it off. This goes a totally different direction, and Bell's performance commits to that subdued tone. This feels like a cover that did something new with the source material.

Jennah is reminiscent of Donna Summer and how so effortlessly she sings! I remember seeing Donna in concert and in videos and how her voice just filled a venue and virtually all of the time with what seemed no effort in range or dynamics. I look forward to more of Jennah's performances!

Hi there, thanks for the information. I don't care if it's a white on a black keyboard or not. That's not the point. I don't know if I expressed myself correctly. English is not my native language. I am Brazilian. Which is to say, it's amazing how much he meets the music, and he conveys that to us in every video I've seen so far. It is evident that all the musicians are of excellent quality, but he stands out. The musical choices are impeccable. Great voices for great songs. And you know what? All the videos in this series are of extreme visual, vocal and musical quality and it makes me very happy to watch them. The first one I saw and then signed up for was this "Etta James Lauryn Hill mashup ft. Maiya Sykes & Ben Folds". I have a five year old niece Maria Eduarda and we put it in the last volume. We love and have a lot of fun. Gratitude !!!
