    I really appreciate the drawings you did on your leg for both the bones of the lower leg and the supporting ligaments. Visuals make a world of difference!! I sustained a grade 3 sprain about 10 days ago. I did go to an Ortho for an assessment/evaluation. Your video helped me better understand my injury and what I might be looking at going forward - much better than the orthopedist. Thanks so much! 👍

    What do you mean by:”make sure no ligament is torn”.
    I sprained my ankle during grappling comp., no stepping out on in or anything, but my opponent jumped guard from standings during tried to drag me down, and so my shin bone kinda just blew out away from my ankle and did a backward twist almost. I felt it crunch from my ankle and under my foot, to about 10 cm up my shin.
    Got it xrayed and no broken bones, but I couldn’t even put any type of pressure on it for 16 days! Took me 3 weeks to somewhat walk again!
    I went to my own doctor 9 days after the initial injury because I was told to do so, and she asked me why I was even here, if there was no broken bone on the X-ray, because she couldn’t do anything anyway about it. She didn’t even touch it. Guess it might have been too swollen to do so, but there is defiantly torn ligaments! It’s 2 mo after, and I’m still somewhat impaired, especially mobility wise, as it still hurts, but even putting pressure with my fingers up my shin where the crunching were happening, hurts...
    So I ask again, is there any protocol for torn ligament i should be doing or considering?
    Best regards

      Sorry to hear this happened to you. I’m in a similar boat: 3 months into recovery and my ankle kinda hangs and I just started shuffling around with a splint & shoes. I was using a boot and crutches for the first 2 months. Would you mind sharing what your recovery timeline/experience was? It’s so hard getting answers and being a dog walker, I need to get back to walking or figure out if I need to just give up my business and do something else entirely 😢

    This Ankle Sprain Treatment video is light on treatment details. Yes, there’s info on how long to rest/protect the injury. But where are the demonstrations of the rehabilitation exercises? How do I break up scar tissue? How do I get chronic swelling down? What are the best ways to stretch the tendons and avoid RE-injuring?

    • @DrTomBiernacki
      @DrTomBiernacki  4 года назад

      ruclips.net/video/0yBrkVUgMkY/видео.html the even longer guide!

    • @DrTomBiernacki
      @DrTomBiernacki  4 года назад

      This is personal observation but the key is making sure the injured leg is not tighter. Scar tissue is not what people think it is usually, it's not something that needs breaking up but more tight muscles(especially gastrocnemius and soleus) in almost all cases leading to increased over pronation in that limb

    • @DrTomBiernacki
      @DrTomBiernacki  4 года назад

      There are different foot types such as a high arch foot which can roll more easily leading to instability va a flat foot that is more subtalae joint pain. We usually find the chronic aspect is not a continually damaged ankle ligament but overpronation due to persistent soreness. That being said ankle instability and laxity is also a major concern in some people.

    Jarred my left foot a couple a weeks ago...whilst cycling.The chain slipped a cog...and left foot slipped off the pedal and hit the road sideways.At first I had tremendous pain that shot all the way from my foot to my hip.Continued on my journey thinking no harm done.Several hours later after I went to bed ...pains started shooting down my leg...to just above the outside ankle..I fell asleep for about three hours.
    The pain was severe enough to wake me up.Cramping shooting pains continued for the following week...usually at night...and went right into bone.Don't Dr.Google these two words bone pain+night!!!
    I convinced myself that this was due to new cancer from my prostate.I found you channel because I was trying pinpoint why my three middle toes lost feelings (L5)..an found your exercise to stretch the peroneal helped reduce the spasms...so much appreciation and thanks for helping me find as solution.

    ive been going through so much pain these last 3 weeks after i rolled my ankle under me and my knee twisted out . the pain started in my knee and now is throughout my leg, bottom of my foot, side of feet, top of foot, toes sides of knee, center of knee, above my thigh, yet my doctor insisted its a contusion but the ER doctor said it was a sprain but another urgent care doctor said i should follow up with a specialist. Ive been on muscle relaxers and pain meds but everything is bad right now. my doctor said a week in that i should walk on it and that made it worse.. but I'm hopeful that it will heal ok. I have CRPS in my arm/hand so I'm terrified its going to spread to my leg. I also have numbness, tingling, and my foot gets cold its not good

      Man how are you?
      I’m a basic CrossFit guy, with a football background, sprained my ankle 23 days ago. It totally seemed like and easy case, the ankle was swollen but no bruises or bloody marks. However, i rested 3 weeks and now that I came back to walking, I can’t do it cuz the feet hurts. I wonder is it cuz I’m outs of shape due to inactivity or it’s ligaments damage?
      Should I work through the pain?
      It also swells at night.
      I can’t walk, skipped 2 weeks of uni already, so depressed now ….

      We are experiencing the same problems, I've had an operation last year March, but still there's no progress, I'm taking strong 💊 everyday. I was even admitted to the hospital last week for 5 days due to pains, but my orthopedic referred me to psychology, then yesterday 29 July 2024, I went to another orthopedic, he asked me to do xrays and MRI scan, the xrays results come back with comments of Periarticular soft tissue swelling, and MRI says, inflammation and torn anterior talofibular ligament, next week I have to do a second operation on the same ankle. I'm very angry with my orthopedic who didn't listen to me for more than a year when I was complaining about the pain and swelling on my ankle.

The boot I was given was too heavy. It pulled on my injuries and caused more pain. Now my just wrapped in Coban tape. I’m just curious is there’s a light weight boot. Thanks.

    I've had "twisted ankle' pain since the middle of 2020. I didnt sprain it per se but I was trying to work on middle splits, so foot was in the "twisted" position, soles down, toes forward. its constantly sore, but I can walk on it fine and if I roll my foot on the curb in your typical sprained ankle scenario while walking, it doesnt hurt at all. but I couldnt possibly roll it slowly as if to do middle splits again without pain. Its very bizarre. I will purchase an ankle brace and see if this cures my problem, I appreciate your videos.

    • @DrTomBiernacki
      @DrTomBiernacki  5 лет назад +2

      Not specific to you, and definitely seek treatment with a specialist, but shin pain can frequently be a strain of the posterior tibial tendon. Hey Kory, How is the ankle coming along? I believe I had a similar injury Complete ruptures of ATFL, CFL with 4 other complete partials in Deltoid, avulsion fracture, bone contusions and nerve damage about 5 months ago. Things are coming back, start to run again 2-2.5kms (1-1.5miles) still getting bruising and nerve pain, just wondering if you found any more research online you could share?

    I feel like I'm below a grade 1. I definitely rolled over my ankle on that uneven surface, but there's no swelling, no pain when walking or even going up the stairs. Very occasional stinging sensation in the ankle.
    I have sprained it before (over a year ago) and it swelled. Does it mean this time it's mild? Or are the tissues so dead they can't detect the damage? Recommendations on rehab timing and exercise?

      It depends how it is injured, how seriously and what the continued problem is.
