I agree, proportions are critical in styling. I think every woman should show her waist, rather than tent over it. It doesn’t matter what one’s weight is, it’s always much more flattering to show the feminine shape than to obscure it with a big, boxy, long top, dress, etc. I know because while I’m slim now, I wasn’t in my 40s and 50s and the best thing I did then for my wardrobe was to get rid of all those big shirts, tunic tops and tent dresses. It made me look so much taller and thinner that I wondered why I hadn’t done it sooner, I suppose it’s because tunics and long, full tops were still in style and I just hadn’t realized that wearing them was what made me feel bad bout my figure. Thinner or fatter, I always show my waistline now, even though it doesn’t have much definition, I’m a rectangle shape. Plus, several men have told me “it’s all about the curves and softness, not the size”.

You are the best Chi! I have been changing my whole wardrobe based on your advice . I have a few maxi dresses and skirts . I wear platform nude color tennis shoes with the floor length maxi’s , the tennis shoes are so comfortable and add height ( 3”) for me . I can’t wear high heels .
I have also been purchasing some really nice clothes from your petite clothing shop . I appreciate your explanations as to why the looks work for us petites.
    Thanks !

5'2"115-117 lber here and I love my maxi dresses and skirts. So flowy, easy and comfy and I get many compliments on them when I wear them. It sure beats hiking up my pants after every time I bend down, which is A LOT!

I like having some prints in my wardrobe, too. But one of the many reasons I avoid those mature brands is the large scale of the prints, they just overwhelm my petite frame and face (the same for their accessories- they’re enormous). Mature-brand prints are often out of style and in too-bright colors for my soft coloring, too. Prints are tricky, we should be picky! Like you, I prefer ankle-length maxis over floor-length, not only are they more flattering, they’re much more practical. Regular sizes are always too long on me and even brands I like that carry petites, like Banana Republic, don’t offer all items in petite sizes. I mostly do my own hemming and alterations, but not for my silk items, I don’t have the patience or skill to do a good job with this tricky fabric. You always have the best styling information on YT, Chi, thanks!❤

Ankles aren't always the thinnest part. One of the reasons I only wear ankle length is because - due to medical reasons - my ankles are as swollen as my calf and the hemline hides that (believe me, flesh flowing over the sides of shoes which don't come large enough to really fit the swollen area is NOT a pretty sight).
Sometimes long hemlines are there purely to HIDE certain parts of the body for very good reasons.

I'm 5' and 90% of my summer dresses are maxi length A-line. I stopped wearing knee-length - only midi and maxi ones. I don't feel comfortable in mini length.
Also, because of bunions I don't feel comfortable wearing heels in the summer, only Birkenstocks or other types of flats, and I also can't wear V-toe shape. Don't care - in this case, feet comfort is much more important for me than looks. I find X-straps most comfortable for shoes.

I hate how designers and brands are always pushing those high necklines, they rarely look good on anyone. I don’t show any cleavage, but I do want to show my skin and shape above there, it makes a huge difference.

    • @daphne8406

And you would think they would be more modest or covering if you have a larger bust, but a high neckline only makes my bust look even bigger 😑 I also don’t show a lot of skin but a V-neckline looks best on me 🤷‍♀️

I have a few different neutral-colored cardigans and similar "open sweater tops." Like, lightly woven and very appropriate for spring-fall. This allows me to consider those sleeveless dresses and tops without worrying about my arms. Hope that suggestion helps!

It is the same thing as in interior design. Always take the eye UP. Rather wear statement earrings than statement shoes ! Keep the shoes plain and possibly matching your bottom clothing.

What’s weird is that in the 1920s flappers wore relatively short, dropped waistline dresses and even short, not slim girls seemed to look good in them. Maybe that was just in films, Hollywood. ;)

What? I heard the opposite with print size: the smaller and more numerous, the brain will tend to count and find More, and thus you will appear to BE more. Larger, fewer prints means less of our bodies (slimmer). Were you not the one to teach us that in earlier videos?
