I'm 4'11" and 98 lbs. I wear long skirts and dresses, maxi,floor-length. I look great in them. Cinched and not cinched. It's not about height, it's about proportion. If you're short with a well-proportioned body, you can wear anything... like those super models. Don't let anyone tell you you can't wear something because you're short!
I'm also 4'11", but I'm plus size. When I was in good shape in HS, I weighed between 115-120 lbs. Even when I'm at 140 lbs, I still look good because my muscle mass is much higher than the average woman. When I got down to 105 lbs, I looked like a lollipop (my head was huge compared to my body). Not a good look! I enjoyed your video, though!
I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say it's extraordinarily rare for women to be properly proportioned to look great in everything. While I agree you shouldn't let anyone tell you what you should and shouldn't wear, there is a big difference between the same length dresses and how they are styled/worn.
I recently went shopping for dresses and the seller showed me two ankle length pieces that she thought would look great on me. I didn't shy away from trying them on because you taught me about unbroken vertical lines! I'm so in love with this length now. A much needed variation from shorter skirts!
This summer is the first time I have purchased cool dresses for summer, instead of shorts. It’s very hot and humid where I live, and lightweight dresses are much more comfortable in this weather. I’m only 5 ft tall… when I was younger I wouldn’t wear a dress that wasn’t right above knee level. But I’m retired now and am somewhat of a boho/hippie in my everyday casual life. So I wear what I want. I have several linen dresses and a large number of tee-shirt style, cotton blend dresses, both below the knee and at midi length. My dresses are very simple, but the right boho jewelry and interesting shoes make all the difference. It’s amusing to me that being older(66) and being known to be somewhat boho, doesn’t raise an eyebrow in my small, rural town. To each their own.
I never thought to tie my belts higher, thank you! I’m also relieved floor or ankle length has been fashionable this year, because I’ve always favoured that length, with a split. Or shirt dresses only buttoned to to my knee or mid-thigh. For those who can’t wear heels, a little bit of Boho style works well with a pretty brown or gold leather sandal and bag for daywear.
Great tips, as always, Chi. I really like what we called a midi-length in the 70s and 80s, they just covered the kneecap, no longer. These end at the slimmest part of the leg above the ankle and are really flattering on most women. The recent midi length is so much longer, ending at the thickest part of the calf, I think it flatters few, if any, women. I also love above the knee to mid-thigh length and ankle length. I don’t want to bother with tripping over, or holding up, floor-length skirts and dresses. As a petite, many “ankle-length” ones are really floor length on me. I wish more brands made petite lengths, I recently bought an “ankle-length” silk skirt that dragged several inches on the ground in front of me. It cost an extra $50 to have it hemmed!
HI check out Asos petite section although I have to be honest sometimes they are still too long for me. I'm 5'1" and I bought a petite maxi length dress tbh but it was at least 2-3 inches past my feet with like a 1 inch heeled shoe. It is meant to be a little long but that was a bit too long for me. They do have overall good stuff though for our height.
This was such a great video! I’ve been into dresses lately, not liking them as a kid. But every one certainly has a time/ place and for every body type as well! I’m 5’4 as well which some brands don’t see as “petite”, but I do have shorter torso and legs making most of my pants higher rise and longer by nature. 😅
LOVE THIS! I've never seen you before but stumbled on this video. At 5'2" I can TOTALLY relate! It's been years of trial & error and you taught me something NEW.. the HACK of tying up the long tshirt dress!! Thank You ! I'll check out your designs!
I needed this video!! Thanks so much, Chi! Your videos have been the most helpful to me as someone who is 5 feet. Your explanations and tips are the best ❤
Always remember you can get the hem of a dress tailored if it is too long or you want it to be a different lenght. It's quite a simple change and not too expensive but it makes an astonishingly great difference.
Absolutely (as long as the top half is proportioned properly). I took a "petite" dress in for hemming recently, and the before and after pics... wow! Like a different dress! Before: frumpy, stern, and harsh. Old. After: elegant, youthful, and fun. The crazy part... I didn't even realize just how awful it looked originally because at (almost) 5' my expectations for petite clothing are just so low. 🤭
Im 5’3 with a good pair of legs, a marathon runner as well. I either like above knee kind of sexy or full length Can be very feminine and elegant. Calf length is for stiff office look. I do not like it on myself at all. Lol!
I'm 5'1 and have been told from a young age that I should wear short dresses, now I found out that it's untrue and I'm lovong using long dresses, that fit better in my ultrafeminine aesthetic too
I'm not petite in any sense. I am 5'5" and over 200lbs, but I always look drowned in anything longer than knee length! I think it's my vertical line. it's short. I have a short torso so that probably doesn't help. Thankfully my legs are my best feature!
These tip is helpful as a short person who’s 5 feet after giving birth to my first child . I lost close to 1 inch in height when I went in for my postpartum checkup at 6 weeks. Do you have tips for short wide feet shoes to wear? I measured size 5 shoes but I can never find dress shoes with heels that I can fit in. I end up wearing flat dress shoes and going up 1 1/2 size in dress shoes but it leaves the heel’s when I walk to come out from my dress shoes.
As a short woman (4”11), I like your advice; however, as someone with ankle arthritis who has had multiple joint surgeries, I wish you would stop recommending heels. I can’t wear them medically and am constantly being told by doctors I need to wear orthopedic shoes. Heels are extremely bad for your health. They likely caused my issues in the first place and are absolutely horrible for everyone’s feet. If you could offer some styling tips that do not include heels, your channel would be more useful.
Great tips, ill have to give ankle length another try. As a fellow 5'2" apple shaped gal, I've always been hesitant. My ankles are just so teeny compared to my upper body, but I do have fantastic legs and would love to show them off. Madly in love with the blue dress at 8:28. I didn't see it on your site. And what kind of bra do you wear with that? It seems too casual for the battle of the strapless...but then, unless I'm the bride, I'm not sure the strapless is ever worth the battle. 😅
I can't wear dresses that show my knees - I'm a petite person but I've had knee joint issues since I was a teenager. My knees are thick and droopy despite everything else being thin and muscular. I have slender ankles and defined calves but my knees are a no show. I love the short dresses for everything else it flatters but my knees always take center stage in every photo they can be seen.
Thanks so much for this very informative video. I was wondering what brand the maxi black dress is? It’s very pretty but I didn’t see it listed in the description box. Thank you.
Hello! You should do consulting work so followers can connect with you and get feedback on outfits or you can make recommendations on clothing we should buy based on our height, weight, and body type. Thank you!
The link for the blue mini-dress takes me to a 404 error page. I've never been able to get on board with any kind of uneven hem or a hem on a blouse being longer in the back. For me it's the stuff nightmares are made of lol.
I can’t even wear anything but Birkenstocks lol Bunions have badly deformed my feet, superwide toe box is needed. No shoes exist like this. So I look ridiculous in dresses except hippie style I wear capris 🤦♀️🤷🏼♀️
my religion only allow us to wear floor length dress and long sleeves, but no see through, no showing too much skin. definitely no showing cleavage. i wish you give us fashion tips on how to wear real modest for people like us. ❤
As a plus sized 5'4 person - short skirts are an absolute NO. NOBODY wants to see my legs. Maxi or ankle length skirts & dresses are most flattering on my body type. They elongate my stubby lower half.
The designation "petite" is deceptive, because there are short people with narrow shoulders and defined hips, like you, and more boyishly shaped short people considered "gamines." These two types of short people look good in **radically different** things. Test for short people: If a peter pan collar makes you look hip and adorable, you're a gamine. If it makes you look like a dope, you're a kibbe romantic.
I'm 4'11 and absolutely love to wear a mini skirt. Anything longer and my body looks overwhelmed. However, at 36 I worry that society judges me for wearing a short skirt 😩

So true!! I too am short but I love long/midi dresses. Look and feel good in them
I'm 5'2, 51 kgs and have a cup size of 28F. Severely out of proportions :/ that explain how only limited clothes look good on me.
I'm just short and fat. So nothing ever looks good on me. I've been struggling so hard to lose weight to look and feel good.
I recently went shopping for dresses and the seller showed me two ankle length pieces that she thought would look great on me. I didn't shy away from trying them on because you taught me about unbroken vertical lines! I'm so in love with this length now. A much needed variation from shorter skirts!

Wow, that side-by-side to show that ankle length really does make you taller was awesome. Thank you, Chi!
Ankle length is my personal favorite dress length
Great video and good tips. How about applying these to women who are a bit older and whose waist is disappearing and have a few more lumps and bumps.
Your content is great! I am not petite but your content is still relevant. Keep pushing out great info. 👍🏾
Awesome! Thank you!
Thank you for the info! Im 5'2" and never thought i could pull off the floor length! Going to try it out xo
Glad I could help!
I am not petite, 5'7", but I really enjoy your videos and have found some really useful tips. And your videos are always so fun. Thanks. 🥰💜
You're very welcome! ❤️
I'm 5'2 and I WISH I WAS 5'7. YOU'RE SO LUCKY.

Foot issues here, can't wear any heels, so I have to be careful about the length of my dress/skirts. Right around the knee works for me.
I have a bad back and have had back surgery. I can’t wear heels at all. I’m only 5’1” and am chunky. Nothing looks right on me.
I am 4'11 and I prefer midi and knee length dresses...great video!!!❤
I wear what I like ,love maxi dresses ankle length .perfect for a 5ft 2 and a half inch me.
I'm 4' 10"...and I'll be 72 this year... I prefer knee length and also I'm short wasted bug busted...want to look curvy...how can I accomplish this?

I love dresses but now how I look in them. I’ll try again. Thanks
I love that you bring in a petite model with curves!
The blue and coral dress looks great on you! Wish I am 5’2 😢
I like your confidence 👍 you make confident other women ❤
Can't wait to see your line. Great video. I've always loved cobalt blue, so I was thrilled when you showed the complete dress¡!
Thank you so much! You can check us out at www.petitedressing.com ❤️
Have you done a video on vests, scarves, long jewelry do's & don'ts
So happy I found your channel! It’s a fantastic source for not-so-fashion savvy gals
Aweeee thank you so much!! 💖💖
Most of what you've shown is sleeveless. What if you have chunky arms? Would the look still work?
I'm 5'1 and have been told from a young age that I should wear short dresses, now I found out that it's untrue and I'm lovong using long dresses, that fit better in my ultrafeminine aesthetic too

Aweee thank you so much! ❤️
Yay! The skits are back! ❤ Love the fun energy in your video. Also, I liked the music at the end. What’s it called?

Yes. It's always short length and I am petite but with lipedema that gives me ugly column legs. 😢
Love your purple dress color!
Thank you so much! ❤️

Thanks for the video. I always check on your website but the dresses are too pricey
I adore the blue and red dresses with uneven hemlines so much 💙 sadly I'm 5'11 😭
I am 5 foot 4 and a half inches slightly over 5' 4" would this still apply?
Thank you. Great information.
You're very welcome! ❤️
I bought that buckle you suggested in another video. It keeps sliding off.
Thanks so much for this very informative video. I was wondering what brand the maxi black dress is? It’s very pretty but I didn’t see it listed in the description box. Thank you.

Some women can't wear heels for medical reasons. What then?
I can’t even wear anything but Birkenstocks lol

I wear capris 🤦♀️🤷🏼♀️
Mam I m 5'1 does a bodycon looks good on me..?
With the first blue dress, you asked what difference was. I agree with you, but I'd like to add that the spaghetti straps also lengthen you. Imo.
Excellent video 👍
Thank you very much! ❤️
What shoes to wear with calf length?
Very helpful...
Glad it was helpful! ❤️❤️
You’re the best Chi! I can’t believe petite Hollywood hasn’t snatched you up! 👠👡🥿
Thank you so much! ❤️
I'm 5,2 same 😊😊
Thank you so much
Hi Chi, please help! I have a pear shape bottom but with broad shoulders/small bust. What’s my body type? Thanks ❤
Generally, pear body types/shapes can have broad shoulders, a straight waist, or busty. You can be either a pear shape or an hourglass body shape.
