As a fellow homebound old fart (53 and disabled veteran) I feel your love for Frieran. If you haven't seen them, all of Violet Evergarden is absolutely amazing and as a combat vet physically hurt to watch. March Comes In Like A Lion has the same kind of indomitable spirit feel that Frieran has... a kid whittled down by life to practically nothing takes what little he has left and uses it to build a new everything for himself playing a board game professionally in modern day Japan. And if you ever want to ugly cry uncontrollably the entire "Rascal Does Not Dream Of..." series is extremely well done. As for fantasy I really can't say enough about Mushoku Tensei and Re:Zero. Both published within a few months of one another they are the source material for 90% of all Isekai trope filled anime that has come since but it isn't their fault they did it first/best and got ripped off by a million other writers. Last recommendation is to take care of yourself and enjoy the time you have my dude.

Frieren managed to do what I love most of all; build an amazing world in an amazing setting. It is told from a different perspective than what we are used to. This is not a hero's journey, but Frieren's life. She is powerful, but not the most powerful. She can fight near any battle, but she is not invincible. We've yet to see her lose (the clone losing doesn't count) and she is just completely casual about her power. She doesn't rub it in anyone's face. She is a wonderful main character. I have grown to love her design - from her appearance, to her skills to her general behavior. Everything about her is wonderfully delightful to watch. She is 1000+ (could well be much older as she was a youngish child when Flamme found her and is hardly much more than twice as mature physically than she was then - meaning if her aging is linear maybe she's 2000), but only now starts her emotional development. She was only outwardly stunted emotionally speaking, but clearly had love for her master Flamme and it affected her deeply as she passed. Given that she used the Flower magic with a serene smile on her face when first meeting Himmel meets she clearly had emotions, just unable to word them or act out on them. So only now is she starting to understand others and will very likely by the end end up more like the Monk, Kraft. Very human. More so than Serie.
I am holding up hope that they make season 2 in not too long. A couple years at most.

Many of them from connection of the action director tooru iwasawa and connection from animation producer yuuichiro fukushi. They especially bring bones ACE animator, yutaka nakamura for that scene alone.
And also another cool behind the scenes thing, Episode 9 was directed by first timer episode director but famous animator, kouki fujimoto. If you don't know him, he work on many series but he gain popular through his work in chainsawman and jjk. For this episode he become the director of the episode for the first time of his career. He also animate many scene on the episode. One of the reason he do that mainly because he's been a huge fan of the series, and frieren is a series that he wanted to working on the most. I think he'll comeback for more episode later

Ey man, don't want to sound like a wise ass but it's not pronounced "free.. ren" but like one word, more like "freerun". It's German for "to freeze/freezing". Actually all names are German and are pretty on the nose for most characters ;)
    Frieren - (to) Freeze
    Fern - Remote (far away)
    Stark - Strong
    Himmel - Heaven
    Heiter - Bright
    Eisen - Iron
    Flamme - Flame
    Linie - Line
    Lügner - Liar
    Qual - Torment
Nonetheless the greatest show of this year. Along with Evan Call's awesome soundtrack!

I’m glad Madhouse is back on the scene ! Lots of my childhood animes were produced by this studio ^^
On the other hand it’s a shame all the nasty rumours around Mappa because their animation is undoubtedly awesome. I’m grateful for their popularization of 3d and rotoscoping use. In the 2010s I watched the anime Aku no Hana and fell in love with the animation. But that wasn’t the case for everyone else. Years later studios (like Mappa) have greatly improved these techniques and I’m glad people appreciate it now. Really a shame

“How to live in the present”, I love shows that explore daily life and the little things and the important things in someone’s life. Not too much embellishments, just how it truly was. Similar to Studio Ghibli type films in which they find beauty in the little things of everyday life, things people would say are mundane. Frieren explores Frieren learning to appreciate life, even if it’s just a “mere 10 years to her”, she didn’t think much of it until she started to notice all the importance in her time spent with her friends and doing what she enjoys. It’s in moments where we take the time to appreciate the beauty in life no matter how small that we can open our eyes and experience new things, leading to new found happiness and fondness. Frieren is also about memories, “appreciate your memories”, in which her memories include her friends and acquaintances and things she love. And Frieren says to appreciate it all, appreciate time, the journey, the people, friends or acquaintances, hobbies, the little things, and you’ll learn from them and they’ll make you happy and make you better. Just appreciate life, the time you have, and everything in it and the experiences. I know the anime isn’t finished yet, but it’s just incredible, these are the types of series I love :)

Madhouse still has the connections it pulled to produce One Punch Man Season 1. They also adapted obscure stuff like No Guns Life. I can always rely on Madhouse to adapt niche manga (Though MAPPA did that with Dorohedoro too).

I just turned 38. I have no idea wtf I'm doing now. I'm happily married and we won't want kids, so I need to figure out what's up pretty quick. Working full time forever isn't the call I feel. Idk. Anyways. Good video. Thanks man.

Well honestly most of the credit for this goes to the mangaka for creating such an incredible story. It’s great to see though that Madhouse still knows how to give the proper care to such an adaptation, and pulled out all the stops to turn this into a masterpiece.
I wouldn’t say though that Madhouse hasn’t made anything great in recent years. There’s Sonny Boy or A Place Further than the Universe. This is just their first production in a long time that’s getting massive attention and being called a masterpiece (because masterpiece source material) after they seem to have focused on originals.

In some episodes, like the Stark vs dragon and Aura arcs, a couple of days felt long because there's some serious problem happening and the heroes need to do things to tackle the situation. But in other episodes like episode 11, the time just skips into months or years just because of how "mundane" the activities they did in these episodes.

Madhouse? I thought Redline had taken them out (an incredible passion project movie btw!). It's good to see that they're still making content. I watched Frieren recently after searching for something similar to Mushishi and even more so 'To Your Eternity', another great Anime. For those who liked Frieren and who haven't seen it, I highly recommend it. Both deal with the theme of immortality, but Frieren feels more relational focused. Frieren reminded me a bit of the elves from the Lord of the Rings and Tolkien's human-elf relationships and the trials and beauty of such. I'll have to check out Violet Evergarden someday.

As a 1990 kid watched anime since early young, AOT was the first almost perfect anime for me from the plot, music, character development, and theme. I though once AOT ended there will no other anime would give me a masterpiece feeling such AOT, but I was wrong. Frieren anime gave me the same vibe, and now I won't be disappointed after AOT ended. Though I know season 1 only consist 28 episodes but I don't mind to wait for next season.
Is not like other anime is meh, Death Note, Steins Gate and Anohana (also Nichijou if minus story plot) is really best anime for me before I watch AOT. But they have the story but not some element that could satisfied me like AOT & Frieren.
