The true peak episode of anime. You really can't top this, this storytelling is everything. Thank you Yukimura and everyone on the staff team for crafting it the way they did.
I feel so bad for people talking shit about this season While it’s literally so well written Sorry that it’s Vinland saga and not „how I ended up being a wending Maschine in the Viking world“
I’ve seen like 6 reactions to this episode and every single time my eyes start watering, this story and characters just hit too deep. Vinland saga is definitely peak anime
This is a story that speaks of many things and morals. All of them are based on "The three main pillars" that the series deals with: Life, love and death. Vinland Saga is more than a viking story, it is a story about living.
It speaks to people's desire to be in a peaceful place without slavery and oppression and where they can be happy. Given the time period the story is set in, it's quite sad but also hopeful because you see the characters express the desire to live together in harmony and that balances out the sometimes rather grim elements the story presents to the readers.
Amazing episode. When Canute asked thorfinn “who did you take after” he was actually referring to how thorfinn took on askeladds mannerisms and “eloquence”. In the manga he also says “you sound just like askeladd”. I love how askeladd lives on as an important character that basically birthed these two characters
@@raec5426 I know that but most these reactors think Canute is genuinely curious who he took after so they assume Thors. But if you realise it’s a rhetorical question and Canute already knows it’s simple. I think the anime made it vague to make the watcher really think about it
« You are a beautiful man », Canute also used the word « beautiful » to describe the sun, the snow, the mountains… that are love, which is the opposite of a Viking. About AOT and Vinland Saga, Isayama and Yukimura did an interview together few months ago, Isayama is a fan of Vinland saga and he read Yukimura’s first manga called « Planetes » when he was in high school😄
13:50 the music the scenery, thorfin and einar shaking hands and calling each other brothers after all they've been through it's so beautiful, for once we cry from happiness in this anime.
Not just anime or manga , it’s a true masterpiece of fiction itself. If people truly understand its philosophy it can completely change their lives for good.
This is the only time i’ve cried due to pure beauty in a show, with the visuals and story all coming together in this episode. just amazing with the execution
Yes, Thorfinn was kind of raised by Askeladd, from whom he learned a lot, including the gift of eloquence of which Canute was speaking about. A gift that now Thorfinn is using to deliver his father's ideas. As for the real Thorfinn Karlsefni and king Cnut the great, there are no historical records or Norse sagas noticing their encounter. This doesn't necessarily mean they never met, however. So, you are free to think they might have somehow crossed their paths, although Thorfinn, the real one, is described as a merchant, not as a warrior.
Canute was referring to Askeladd when he asked who Thorfinn took after. They made it cryptic as hell in the anime for a reason I don't understand. In the manga, he straight up says "You sound like Askeladd.". Askeladd's key feature was eloquence. If Thors had that trait, perhaps his life would've turn out a lot different. That's the key feature that makes Thorfinn the finished article. Thors said on the ship he died on that he needed his sword because he was not yet a master. Eloquence is what Thors lacked to be a master and demonstrating enough eloquence here to persuade the king to not take the farm using nothing but words is what finally turns Thorfinn into the man his father wanted him to be and it's a trait he learned from Askeladd. Canute never met Thors. He wouldn't know if Thorfinn took after him or not.
Yeah a good example of Thors not being eloquent was when he couldn’t explain his feelings Helga about thorfinn when he was leaving. Also he couldn’t really explain to thorfinn why killing and war is bad. Current thorfinn has a great way with his words that definitely come from askeladd. Throughout season 1 he was complimented as the guy that is “good with words”. Current thorfinn would be able to explain to anyone even vikings why killing senselessly is a bad thing and I have no doubt he will be able to explain it well to his kids.
It's something that is never really explicitly expressed in the anime, but becomes fairly clear, Thorfinn is a man with two fathers, Thors who made him and instilled an ideal in Thorfinn, and Askeladd who raised Thorfinn into a man. Neither man was perfect, each only had partial mastery of being a true warrior, but combined they make a man like Thorfinn.
It's probably just "show, don't tell" what I like about "Who do you take after" is that one can immedietly say from his father but looking at Canute's PoV, the answer is obviously Askellad. From storytelling standpoint, what it means is that both Thors and Askellad influnced Thorfinn a lot. And also Askellad has such an amazing impact that birthed both Thorfinn and Canute that made them the way they are right now.
Yeah I really dont understand people who thought of Thors...Thors? Eloquent? He never managed to convey what was in his minds in a clear way Not to Helga, not the Ylvia, not to Thorfinn and not to Thorkell. That Thorfinn speech was 100% Askeladds eloquence... damn even the pose with the head tilt and the crossed arms screamed Askeladd😅
If this doesn't win as AOTY, Thorfinn should at least win as best protag. The voice acting, score, songs used for this season were outstanding, too. They deserve recognition!
I'm fine with it not being aoty. It's a stacked year and it has nowhere near the popularity of other shows. However, i don't see how this won't win best drama
@@luceafarul5740 I'd love for it to win Best Direction too, the way some of the episodes are directed is breathtaking. Not to mention all the anime-only scenes e.g. Garder's final moments added so much more to the series. Shuhei Yabuta and his team really _get_ the story.
Vinland is truly special. It's a series that doesn't excuse violence for violence in the name of warped and selfish "justice", it tells the beautiful story of men of war fighting the real war that humans have to fight, the war to find peace within themselves and each other. Thorfinn's arc has been incredible and imo has made him become one of the best protagonists in the medium of anime, a man with conviction to fight for true victory even if he has to put his own life on the line without raising a finger or clenched fist to convince people of that. This show never needed action to make it a compelling narrative, it told it from the heart of the author and characters that ground it beyond what we usually see in anime. I truly believe we need far more slow paced seinen like this and pray for the days we get a Vagabond adaptation. Been an incredible journey Teddy and I've loved watching what you've got to say and feel about it.
Berzerk (1989) went on to inspire vagabond (1998) then they both inspired Vinland saga (2005) and they all inspired attack on titan (2010) these manga are all legendary and they all take from one another but are all legendary for their own aspects.
4:46 Oh, this reminds me of S1 episode 19, when Canute confronted Thorkell, he joined him and after that, Askeladd was laughing too, because he was relieved that his plan was finally working and then he completely devoted himself to Canute, because that was the king he was looking for to serve. 7:07 i was thinking on Askeladd though, because of the tone of Canute's voice and how he phrased it, it sounds like Canute knows that person and how smart Askeladd was too. 10:48 Did you realize it? He didn't wake up screaming like before, he's finally found peace in his mind, accepting all the burden of his past and moving on. 16:29 Remember what Roald (Snake) said before? He was ashamed of using his real name, because of the things he did in the past... Shouting it to Einar and Thorfinn has a beautiful meaning now, he's prepared to change, that's why we see him working later (17:37) even when he hated it a few episodes before. 18:23 Even if the translation is not exactly like that, i'm pretty sure it's a call from S1, not just for the title of episode 1, it was mentioned by a few people through that season too. This show is amazing and i love the fact you liked this episode so much, Teddy
Yep he was talking about Askeladd for sure, the ideals are Thors. But Thors never was eloquent, he was a great man but a man of few words. Askeladd on the other hand is slick af with words.
@@rodvincetolosa9386 he was a man with few words but those words hit so different. “A true warrior needs no sword” “you have no enemies” “somewhere not here”, they all hit different because he’s HIM
@@marti9734 I know, I agree that Canute meant askeladd. But that’s one of the charms about thors. His lack of eloquence made him such an enigma. Like no one understood what he knew.
Both Thorfinn and Canute were real people. But their relationship is fictionalized in the manga. The scene with Canute trying to stop the waves was real... but the historical version was to tell a lesson to his vassals about humilty. Canute pious nature and his wise actions as king are also historical.
Only 2 kings in history were called "great" by others than themselves and Canute was one of them the other was Alfred of England and both for being great politicians
I don't think that is true. Only 2 kings in English history were called great - Cnut and Alfred. Some kings/rulers were called great posthumously, some gave themselves the title, and some were called great during their life time but not later on.
Season 2 wasn’t much of just entertainment as much as it was a message that’s really well written and expressed, I respect the mangaka, I’m excited for the journey to continue.
I really wish this was the season finale. I don't know what the next season holds for us but I think next episode could have been pushed to the first episode of a new arc. This was such a powerful episode and I loved the ending montage and how it matches the season premier.
The thing with Vinland Saga is that it can never be such a giga popular anime like Kimetsu because the general public is not willing to get so emotionally invested in a story and their characters. While Kimetsu has a very amazing emotional journey, the general public can just enjoy it because of the flashiness/colors/animation in fights and be satisfied with that. Animes like Vinland will literally have you pause your life after an episode just to process it. Simply beautiful.
I've been watching anime for a long time and I could see that anime in general became more popular as those kind of show like demon slayer, naruto, spy family and so on appeared. it's just what attract people I guess, but they are missing out on very good emotional show.
tbh, i only started watching Vinland Saga it's because you started watching it. and ur right, anime that target adult audience don't get that much hype. anyway. good episode good reaction, have a nice day Teddy.
@@teddymechetoSeinen will never be as hyped as shounen, mostly because the people that are actually interested in deep/mature and phylosophical themes are the minority in the anime/manga comunity. I prefer seinen even though I'm only 19. Of course most of the younger audience likes shounen more because it's targetting them. The disapointing part is when the majority of the adults prefer shounen over seinen which is supposed to targeting them. I'm really sorry for those adults who can't appreciate the works of more mature adults (while I doesn't even consider myself an adult but legally I am). I can only hope that future generations will be more mature as they become truly adults, but as I see on the internet I don't see how it could happen.
As for history books, Thorfinn and Canute never meet in real life. Is just lovely how the autor mix fiction with real life events, Thorfinn became my role model.
What the anime didn't mention is that Olmar became the head of the farm because Ketil become so depressed over loosing Arnheid that he couldn't manage the farm. So Ol,ar sold half of the farm, too probably because of Sverkel's warning that too much wealth causes calamity that Olmar experienced first hand. Also with loosing 100 men it's easier to manage a smaller farm I believe, and now as you could see he himself works on the fields, too. This shows that Olmar matured not just in his words but in his actions, too.
Some centuries later, the power of the king of England reached "the New World," including Vinland. People still had wars and slavery there. This reminds me of the last sceme of AOT.
One of the best reactions to this episode I think we all agreed what teddy said in the end of the reaction, to me Vinland saga is top 1 anime and I’ve been watching anime for 13 years the most underrated anime
Its hard for me to rank this and the previous episode. I just put them together, and it is probably my peak of all anime as well. I think the best way to describe is is genuinely beautiful.
it doesnt get hype because most people fail to see the beauty in the mundane. plus people need some age/life experience to fully appreciate/comprehend what thorfinn has gone through. but if the story is as good as this, it doesnt need hype :)
In terms of recommending this show to AoT fans, I'd say that can depend on what they enjoy AoT for. Some just watch it for the action and/or mystery from seasons 1-3. If they have been really enjoying season 4 then yes absolutely they will love this show because that final season is where the philosophical elements of the narrative come into full focus and it has turned former fans of AoT away who don't like the true meaning of it.
by the "they never interacted with each other this season", were you talking about Olmar and Thorfinn? because they did, remember when Fox told Olmar that to become a man you needed to kill someone and they tried to kill Thorfinn.
They never "interacted". Olmar never talked to Thorfinn directly until epsiode 23, and when Thorfinn talked to Olmar in that earlier episode the only thing he said is that he can cut him down, to wich Olmar never gave an answer. In that episode Thorfinn mostly talked to Fox, not Olmar.
I mean Vinland saga is really famour right now too, but what merch should you buy from the anime? :) Farming equipment? Weapons dont comply with the Season 2 moral
It's very unlikely that they met in real life... Thorfinn was born in Iceland, also lived in Greenland... did he travel to Europe?? Who knows? but even if he did why would he have gotten an audience with the king? Cnut was very important, almost an emperor
We need quality over quantity.. we dont need edits and all if the fan base us going to be kids who dont understand deep emotions and character development..
Kids these days understand better than I did their age and I really enjoy the edits that's why I mentioned them 🥲 it's part of what keeps me in the fandoms like I wouldn't care about haikyuu anymore or aot as much if it wasn't the edits that keep coming in in my fyp on tt
I think the main reason for Vinland Saga to be not that popular, is the pace. If Dragon Ball would come out nowadays, nobody would watch it, because it would be waaaaaay to slow paced for the TikTok generation.
Yeah, unfortunately a decent amount of people couldn't appreciate S2 to drop off because of slower pace and less action. Some of those people may revisit now they can binge the season with it over.
Demon slayer isn't for kids XD, it's expressly designed for a teen to adult demo, it has alot of adult themes beside the blood and gore, but also adult design elements for both Male and Female appearances XD
@@teddymecheto unfortunately in Japan the age dynamics for age setting of shows and mang is different, so technically it's not for kids. After it's been localized to other regions it's new age ratings is presented on its streamed or site information. Vinland Saga Rating TV-14 USA Demon Slayer Rating TV-14 USA In Japan 13 is no longer a child or underage, they are considered a teen.
@@brenon45 I mean idk but to me it's very much targeted at kids 😂 no hate whatsoever they showed the same kind of stuff when I was a child/teen on tv but I can see how the target demographic is the exact same as it was 15 years ago
@@teddymecheto not disagreeing with that, grew up watching Cowboy Bebop and Big O for prime examples and reading plenty of manga in my younger days, the age rating in different country's are quite different and have been adjusted over the years, some shows and movie used to be rated for 10 year olds but now say 15+ for the same.
I grew out of typical shoonens. Demon Slayer doesn't really speaks to me anymore. I loved season 1 but at 17yo I thought it would still be better as more of a senin with heavier atmosphere. 5 years later I don't even bother because I know there will be no enjoyment for me. Visuals are top tier, music great, but story is what matters to me most now.
Teddy, this might or might not be demotivating to you, but I like the way you look more without make-up. I don't mean to say that your make-up is bad, I just don't like make-up in general. It's fine if you enjoy doing it, I just wanted to share my opinion for the statistics, so to speak. As for the popularity of Vinland Saga, I think it sits in the awkward spot of being a serious anime - people who look for serious works don't generally look for anime, justifiably so, because most anime, including Vinland Saga, is not that serious compared to other works that are out there. But then people who look for braindead entertainment or anime tropes are also dissatisfied, because Vinland is too serious for them. So it ends up appealing to a narrow demographic of people who watch anime, yet are looking for something serious, and that's just not a lot of people. P.S. I'm letting the 9:43 slide, just this time.

The last line that Pater speaks is "Someplace that's not here" Which is the title of the EP1 of Season 1, coming full circle.

I have to say it. This episode is probably the best episode of all time and definitely the best episode of the past decade.
Some centuries later, the power of the king of England reached
"the New World," including Vinland. People still had wars and
slavery there. This reminds me of the last sceme of AOT.
One of the best reactions to this episode
I think we all agreed what teddy said in the end of the reaction, to me Vinland saga is top 1 anime and I’ve been watching anime for 13 years the most underrated anime
Its hard for me to rank this and the previous episode. I just put them together, and it is probably my peak of all anime as well. I think the best way to describe is is genuinely beautiful.
What a journey this was ❤
Have to wonder who do you think was your favourite character out of people introduced in this season 🤔
it doesnt get hype because most people fail to see the beauty in the mundane. plus people need some age/life experience to fully appreciate/comprehend what thorfinn has gone through. but if the story is as good as this, it doesnt need hype :)
Thorfinn fr almost got killed in order to talk to Canute and just say: plz don’t seize the farm thank you 😂
by the "they never interacted with each other this season", were you talking about Olmar and Thorfinn? because they did, remember when Fox told Olmar that to become a man you needed to kill someone and they tried to kill Thorfinn.
This show (specially this season) can change people life
I think its only a matter of time before it gains huge popularity, its just to good
ofc they met eachother irl thats why we know of thorfinn bc alot of this happened irl
Reaction videos are what keeps me going
Beautiful episode 🎉
Best reactor for this series❤
man i can't wait till i get home to watch this
I mean Vinland saga is really famour right now too, but what merch should you buy from the anime? :)
Farming equipment? Weapons dont comply with the Season 2 moral
I'd love to get thorfinn's daggers as a prop 🤠I go crazy for acrylic stands recently and pins too. I 👏need👏 the👏 merch 👏
@@teddymecheto I mean of course, but do you understand what I am saying? The pacifist ways of season 2 contradict that a bit
ANIME OF THE YEAR!!!
It's probably because it's a historic story, people are kinda turned off by that I guess
Yeah I've seen people who said they didn't pick it up because they were just not interested at all with vikings and medieval stuff in general
You said 기분좋아?what a lovely lady❤😂
Yes! 😆
Thorfinn is 22 now, Einar is 23
It's very unlikely that they met in real life... Thorfinn was born in Iceland, also lived in Greenland... did he travel to Europe?? Who knows? but even if he did why would he have gotten an audience with the king? Cnut was very important, almost an emperor
BEST. EPISODE. EVER!!!
I’ve never cried so hard at an anime episode... peakland saga.
beautiful tears. . .🥲
I will subscribe your channel ♪
It's the best fucking show in the medium of anime (not including manga)for mature people ......might be hot take but yeah true
teddyyyy how are you? how's everything going
Askeladd is clearly the best character of all anime. I want to be this man in real life. Hail King Lucius Artorius Castus king of Cymru and Britannia.
I'm reading the manga, you still have so much to see, believe me
Mashle magic and muscles
Thorfinn is 22
I know people who dropped it in this season cuz there is no fighting and action . I guess that is why it's not that popular.
Peak Fiction.
Classroom of the elite Season 3 got announced for winter 2024
Ill never understand how somebody cant like season 2
I wonder how many people turn pacific after watching this series.

It's shonen which is 13-18 meaning kids
@@teddymecheto unfortunately in Japan the age dynamics for age setting of shows and mang is different, so technically it's not for kids.
After it's been localized to other regions it's new age ratings is presented on its streamed or site information.
Vinland Saga
Rating TV-14 USA
Demon Slayer
Rating TV-14 USA
In Japan 13 is no longer a child or underage, they are considered a teen.
Got me too
Peakland Saga
He's 22
And then spanish inquisition did things UwU
Peak fiction.
wait how old are you again?
Old af 😂
Peakland saga
Aot will soon not be ur fav anime believe me :P
Nah they could literally turn into aliens and I'd be happy with the ending
