Hi Alex, and Emma, and Noah! Regarding Alex's observation about the stairs in castles, they were built that way deliberately. Defenders retreating backwards up the stairs, would have their sword arms (right arm) to the railing side of the stairs and have room to swing, while attackers, advancing up the stairs, had their arms pinned to the wall and weren't able to strike or block effectively, and the stairwells were deliberately narrow, so that they couldn't escape this, and could only advance one at a time, single file up the stairs, making it even easier for a small group of defenders to be able to slow their advance. (Total nerd trivial fact moment, but hope you found it interesting and answered your question)
No matter what happens, the two of you are all smiles and giggles. We appreciate being able to follow along and see all the sites. Stay safe on the road.
🤣🤣🤣 As a Gen X'er We grew up in houses with no central heating, wasn't until 1975 did my mum & dad get central heating fitted. Can remember getting dressed with ice on the inside of the windows, character building it was😁 Dublin is awesome, not a bad place to retreat back to👍❤
As soon as the drone shone panned outwards on that bridge at the Gap of Dunloe, it brought back great memories from our honeymoon there 20 years ago. We drove the Ring of Kerry and decided to get back to Killarney from Kenmare through that pass. Blasting through that one-lane road (hoping no one was on the road around curves and hills) was so much fun for my new wife and I. Granted, going 25mph through there in a Nissan Micra probably felt like 80mph, but it made great memories regardless. I remember coming out of that brush/woods and seeing that bridge and view beyond and immediately pulling over for photos. Thank you!
Awh, I'm delighted you guys got to experience some small bits of Ireland. It's a pity you didn't get to see and experience the ring of Kerry. Maybe you guys should take a trip in the summer months. Ireland is definitely super cold and damp in the winter months. I'm living in London and now craving a 'spice bag' from back home. I'm so happy you guys enjoyed them. They're so delicious. Thank you for your very lovely comments about us Irish and our hospitality. We're a lovely nation of people and always up for a bit of craic. 🇮🇪☘️
Noah is just so cute. Smiling with you. I know you don’t show him whenever he has a tantrum (hopefully that’s not too often), but he seems to be so happy with you. Love his addition to your videos.
More Ireland and more Noah. He seems like such a delightful, happy baby. I'm sure the not so happy guy is edited out and that's OK. You're a beautiful family.

Fun fact! People weren't necessarily smaller way back when. The average height actually hasn't changed all that much. For interior rooms, the short celling, door ways and small windows were to regulate the interior temperature aka keep the heat in.

For a fact, that is MY (Lori) ancestral families castle. It's so cool to see y'all here because who knows if I'll ever get to see it in person, so thank you!!!
The old transits don't have glow plugs. In the cold they can sometimes struggle to start. It's best to turn them over for 10 seconds, then wait a little bit then try again. keep trying until it eventually starts. Giving it a bit of throttle will also help fire it into life. Once started they will go on forever but getting them started can be fun 😂

Why don’t you try the Northumberland 500 road trip? Most underpopulated county in England with beautiful moorland, countryside, and miles of unspoilt beaches. Add in the quaint market towns and myriad of castles and I’m sure you’d have a trip to remember. Bring warm clothes though. 😊

When I was in my teens I did the Ring of Kerry tour with my parents. It was an all day tour with stops along the way. We were in a 15 passenger bus with a lot of older people who were very fussy about everything! At about the half way point I started to get car sick but the tour guide refused to stop (Got to keep to the schedule you know!). A few miles later I told my mom that I was going to be sick but the guide again said we couldn’t stop. I leaned forward and threw up in this old lady’s bag who was sitting in front of us! We screeched to the side of the road, everyone piled out, the old lady screamed, “My bag!” and the guide was left to try to figure out how to get the stench out of the van. Because we were at the half way point we couldn’t go back so we finished the tour with all the old ladies covering their noses with their hankies!
Sic Transit Gloria Mundi - All Worldly Glory Is Fleeting. I'll bet the travel guide and the old lady enjoyed their 15 minutes of fame. And I reckon the Travel Beans will remember the Glory of Glow Plugs on future Sick Transits!
Hey hey!!!! My first car was a 1948 Chevy pickup. A lesson from then.... Always have a spray can of starting fluid. What's really nice about older vehicles is that when things go wrong, they aren't complicated (unless they burst into flames. I hear that's tough to fix. ) I love the low-key humanness of what you do.
That looked like so much fun! I am intrigued about this place called Bruxelles, though. I am Belgian (actually, I am half British with Irish ancestry as well), and Bruxelles is French for Brussels. Years ago, I did the Ring of Kerry on a bike - twice. It really is gorgeous. But it surely seems like you made the right decision.👍 Little Noah is unfailingly cheerful - that must help your positivity to stay alive.
The campervan website says that the van you booked has gas heating. For what I'm guessing you paid if it wasn't working or not available then that's not acceptable. I hope you complained. But I'm loving that you love my country! Do come back and do the ring of Kerry - make sure you go anti-clockwise!
As usual, your video was fantastic! Noah is so much fun to watch - he's so expressive and a very happy baby. I think you could stay in Ireland with a better camper van (one guaranteed to run and with a heater). I would love to see more of Ireland, but if you're ready to move on - that's super, too. You two always put a smile on my face and in my heart. Take care and stay safe! xoxoxoxo
Hi guys! That vehicle is an old diesel engine. It has glow plugs and many times, they need to heat up. Especially when it gets cold. So there might actually be a wire plug in the front of the vehicle, so in the winter, plug it in and it keeps the engine block warm so fuel doesn’t condense and not start. It’s FUN using old tech!

It is a heap of a van (that mouldy cupboard of kitchen tools!!!) especially when it won’t start, but you could have slept in there with your little one. I grew up in a single paned Victorian house without central heating and I’d wake up to frost on the inside of the window. I was snug in bed (altho with a cold nose) so you all could survive quite easily - and safely!). You have great attitudes and take it all in your stride!!
You need to do a van tour of New Zealand. Remember when a baby's little light bulb comes on and they realise the sounds coming from your mouth is communication, they start pointing to things because they want to know what it sounds like so they can learn to communicate to.
Where are you getting "old style" from? All modern Diesels have glowplugs, this engine didn't get them till right at the end of the production run! If yours need running 3 times you need to change them.
Going back to the glow plugs, I am glad that you're aware of them but each model is different and I was looking at how long Emma held the ignition on before trying to crank the engine, most diesels I have driven I have had to hold on the ignition 3 times longer than Emma did but you don't have the van anymore so at least you won't have that problem again. ❤
An old transit will always go as long as there's diesel in it. Ignition on, 2nd gear and when rolling drop the clutch 😊 always park facing down hill. I've driven loads of them for years.
One of your best videos. I was smiling and laughing the whole time. Loved the van challenges😂😂 and loved him falling in the bed just exhausted. You guys have great humor!!!!
Hey hardly anyone comes to the North East of England and vlogs it, maybe not so great in winter, but look at York, Whitby and up the coast to Saltburn then up to Northumberland etc. I'm sure you will have a great time x

You guys are doing well with the fast growing Noah, amazing how fast it goes! for the future destination, what about the South of France? A budget flight to Montpellier and take a Camper around Avignon, Nimes, Montpellier itself and slowly move to the Spanish border, must be special during off-season! Definitely warmer than Ireland 😁
I absolutely love watching you two and your adventures, and I agree with everyone else, Noah is a perfect reflection of your happy, positive personalities. On a different note, have you two ever considered adding geocaching to your adventures? It'sa lot of fun, and it's free! 😀🇨🇦
You guys are so much fun to watch. We were in Ireland just 8 weeks ago, and this makes me want to go back TODAY! Love everything in Ireland, and like you, we believe the people are what make it great! Looked like a fun night in Dublin. Stay safe. - Coreen
I love the "free advertisement" of the van rental company's website in the background when you're talking about the enhanced engine capabilities. You know, that cool sound that happens when you turn the key that you just don't get with the typical running car?
No, it just hadn't started on all cylinders. That's a 1984-designed engine, designed at the peak of Ford's reputation for not starting in the cold. Standing on the throttle would have started it first time as well as getting all cylinders firing.
I simply love you guys! You make me so happy and smile with your videos and all your fun travels. Thank you guys for spreading so much love joy and realness. Is that even a word? Just love you so much. Have fun. Be safe and can’t wait to see you in the next video. Your friend Tracy.
Greetings from downunder, Melbourne! You’re all so lucky to have so many places on your doorstep! Love how natural and easy going you appear to be when facing your dilemmas! Noah is so adorable and seems to take everything in his stride. You guys make travelling with a baby look so easy, though I bet it has its challenges! Love how you cope with the obstacles that pop up! Keep up the good work, we’ve been following you for years! Merry Christmas!

I love how happy Noah looks as you are perplexed about the cold. He doesn't need to worry about a thing. You've got him covered!
Yeah, he was like, what are you guys worrying about?
I think it was the cold giving you starting troubles, once it warmed up a bit that's what got it working again. typical of older vehicles.

Stay safe. - Coreen
Thanks so much for watching and for the kind comment Coreen! Hope you had a wonderful trip there!
I love the "free advertisement" of the van rental company's website in the background when you're talking about the enhanced engine capabilities. You know, that cool sound that happens when you turn the key that you just don't get with the typical running car?
Noah looks a happy little bean so cute. Can i ask Emma do you do all the driving 😊 x
Loved seeing you guys experience the spice bag and get a real taste of local culture with your guide. Reminded me of your early videos. Cheers!
In addition to the unnerving starting issue, I'd reckon that, from the way the shifter is shaking back and forth, there's a broken motor mount, too.
No, it just hadn't started on all cylinders.
That's a 1984-designed engine, designed at the peak of Ford's reputation for not starting in the cold. Standing on the throttle would have started it first time as well as getting all cylinders firing.
Merry Christmas to you Beans and your the whole family. Thank you for all the wonderful vlogs you make throughout the year. Happy 2024!!!
Alex what was that comment about Emmas driving, i think she does a good job at driving.
Hey Beans, your videos are so nice and positive! We will definitely visit Ireland once. Greatings from the Netherlands!
