It was Independence Cup played at Chennai. I was 11year old then, watched in a black and white TV which had an antenna on roof. I cried a lot after loosing the match to Pakistan. My uncle (Mama) held me tight and condoled me telling "it is just a match My boy don't cry and enjoy the great batting of Mr Anwar." I could not appreciated his words then. Now, whenever I watch Anwar sir's 194 run innings I always spellbound and thanked him for this great innings. The innings always remembers me about my uncle because he passed away after 2 months at the age of just 28. He met with a train accident. I still miss him.

His placement and timing was perfect, by the time I started watching cricket he had retired but my dad and grandad always used to refer to this innings of his and that he was really underrated but a special talent.

Im an indian for that matter.....Saeed was Desert Fox.....truly a commendable inning.....I watched the whole match and he kept the whole family mesmerized....I miss the Pak team consisting of Saeed, Wasim, Waqar, Mushi, Saqqi, all functioning together.....
It was Independence Cup played at Chennai. I was 11year old then, watched in a black and white TV which had an antenna on roof. I cried a lot after loosing the match to Pakistan. My uncle (Mama) held me tight and condoled me telling "it is just a match My boy don't cry and enjoy the great batting of Mr Anwar." I could not appreciated his words then. Now, whenever I watch Anwar sir's 194 run innings I always spellbound and thanked him for this great innings. The innings always remembers me about my uncle because he passed away after 2 months at the age of just 28. He met with a train accident. I still miss him.

Honored to witness that game live on TV when I was a kid. Saeed Anwar made it look like a one-sided game. At that time no batsman would even dare to score 194. Saeed has this record for more than a decade.

He already hit 2 boundaries off the first 2 deliveries of the over & just broke the record for the highest ODI score.He didn't need to go to the air again.Granted,it was towards the end of the innings and he had to 'thrash out' to get the team score up to a winning total but he still had 3.2 overs (20 balls left) of the innings and could've easily got his 200 with low 4's.
His placement and timing was perfect, by the time I started watching cricket he had retired but my dad and grandad always used to refer to this innings of his and that he was really underrated but a special talent.
