    As an owner of three or so Tac Force knives ... They sure are cool *LOOKING*, but they don't hold a very good edge and eventually the liner lock fails and won't hold the blade reliably. I recall they used to claim "440 stainless". Without a letter after the "440", I have to guess it's 440A.

    Love my Kershaws, but I have had to put blue loctite on the adjustment screw of every one. And heads up, the Kershaws break their springs every now and then. Kershaw will send you a new one no questions asked.

    The 58-61 HRC isn't the type of steel on the Benchmade... That's how hard the steel is on the Rockwell scale. The blade steel on that version of the Mini Griptilian is 154 CM which is pretty dang good for the price.

    Question for the true knife aficionado's out there: I have a $25 Kershaw and I love it. I don't have it in front of me right now, but I think it's like T1551 or something like that. What really is the difference between a knife like this and, say, a $180 Syperco knife? I've never held a Spyderco so maybe that's all you have to do to know. But for just an EDC pocket knife I don't know why I would want more than what I have. I ask this with all respect. I accept that maybe it's like wine: the everyday grocery store wine drinker may not really appreciate a $100 bottle of wine that you have to special order from some vineyard.

    • @darthsnowball3157
      @darthsnowball3157 7 лет назад +2

      You're pretty spot on with the wine analogy. With the higher priced knives like Benchmade, Spyderco, Zero Tolerance, etc. you are paying for (much) better materials (S30v, 154CM, M4, etc. steels that far outperform the 8cr13mov or 440c you often find on lower end knives; titanium, carbon fiber, and other materials that reduce weight and increase performance; bearing systems; better lock designs, etc.) you are paying for fit and finish, you are paying (in many cases) for a designer's name, you are ultimately paying for a knife that will last longer, perform better, and just be objectively better (this is where I find the wine analogy breaks down since I don't appreciate fine wines myself and I feel that wine preference is subjective). However, at the end of the day that $25 Kershaw is far and away the better option for most people and will perform admirably. At the end of the day the expensive knives are cool and most of us never grow out of liking cool toys.

      Tom Abbott that little Cryo of yours is a gem of a budget knife! Very much not typical of its price point. I have a couple of ZeroTolerance 0770... one in Elmax and one in M4/carbon fiber. Gotta say except for my ZT blade steels being higher performance, the fit and feel of that little Cryo of yours is very much on par for fit and action, just a little heavier. I also have a couple of Spyderco knives... I think the thing with them is mostly ergonomics, spydes have a very specific feel in the hand and a love if or hate it kind of look, but even cheap spiderco knives have a good fit/finish/feel in my opinion.
      When you start getting into 250$ bearing pivot knives then things start getting really different... like the difference between stick shift and paddle shifters, there are reasons for both, but when the numbers are crunched the performance improvements are undeniable.

      Tom what is the worst situation you can see yourself or family in? Is this knife going to be up to the task of going through seat belts and seats to get you family out of a burning car? This is just an example without getting gross. Talk to a police office you know that has seen bad things and ask them what they carry. I used to be an officer and I carry a Zero Tolerance 0200ST, but I also carry a Buck 301 which I have carried for over 30 years for utility purposes.

    I have a tac force folder and it's great. There's nothing wrong with the liner lock in it. He whacked the tac force 3 times harder and just gently tapped the other 2, lol. Some of us would never pay $100.00 for a pocket knife.

    I've had my Mtech $20 knife for 7ish years. I'm a welder, and it's a great knife. Have to tighten the blade every week, but other than it, it's great.
    Originally bought it so I don't have to worry, but now that I've had it so long, and it's been through my entire career, I'd be devastated if it broke. So it's now retired.

    Personally I am a big fan of the liner locks and I love Kershaw. It was all I carried when I was an officer. Started with the 1550ST and then went to the bigger beefier Zero Tolerance (a Military division of Kershaw) 0200ST. I still carry the ZT every day. I've watched you videos from gun shops, if your going to do knife videos you should do a video from Blade HQ down in Lehi. Their selection is massive.

    never been a fan of the griptilion. have a mini myself and it feels cheap. I hate the handles but it does what it's intended to do and benchmade is a good company. I also prefer a knife with a little bit of weight to it. my knives I carry most are my benchmade Stryker, spyderco paramilitary 2 and the spyderco Gayle Bradley 2 ( think you'd like that one, not super light but very stout). one of my faves is my ZT 0550 gen 3 but that's a tank of a knife so I don't carry it often. great video, I like anything knife related.

    You should do a video on the core15 keymod scout, just bought one and am curious as to what you'd think of it. I bought a tacforce once when I was like 15 because it was so cheap, it showed when the blade got stuck in the locked position, like 20 times on the first day I got it. Keep doing your videos man they helped pass the time and to entertain me during my being stationed in korea.

    Not for nothing brother but I'm a workman and carry a carpenter knife. Olfa is a good brand but for sure not a hacking blade. $50 is a good price for most decent knives by honestly for a 5% improvement over Chinese junk you pay 10 times as much. I use my knives several times a day for work but while camping I do have some sort of Spiderco for my pocket, (decent I guess). What do you suggest for a practical guy who doesn't care a whit about brand or name and is very rough on his gear?

    • @caseylockwood5512
      @caseylockwood5512 7 лет назад

      Go to Ali Express and get the knockoff benchmade and spyderco knives. The metal probably isn't amazing, but the fit and finish of those knives are bang on. It got to the point where it was VERY difficult to tell the real thing from the replica. They were genuinely good knives and cost 1/10th of the price.

    Hey Chad! I have been carrying a Smith & Wesson First Responder knife for about 4 years. I got it at a gun show for $20 and has served me well. So I decided to step up to a Spyderco Manix 2 in orange color produced special for the Cultery Shoppe. It retails for $199, but I picked it for $119 online. The blade is a V90 steel and is pretty lightweight. What's your take on Spyderco? I love it. Thanks, Patrick.

      My wife got me a Spyderco Dice for my birthday two years ago. Since then I've used it as my everyday carry and also used it at my work. I would say that Spyderco is a great company and that they make great knives as well.

    Pro Tip: don’t listen to this guy.
    Under 50$ buy a Rat II or Tenacious
    Otherwise get a PM2 and die happy 💁‍♀️🔪
    I have a grip mini with the same blade play, it’s endemic of the line. Attempting to tighten it just makes the blade hit the scales.
