That is exactly what I did in your classes (and all of my classes in Law School). When you have to think about the material you write down, you learn and remember it so much better.
I completely agree with everything you said because I have tried both. Typing during lectures almost seems like you’re competing on how many words you can type along with what the professor says, which is what I did one time and it didn’t work for me since I have always written my notes. That’s why I have a notebook for each course every semester ❤️
I completely agree with this as handwritten notes offer much more flexibility. Furthermore taking notes helps material truly get committed to memory. Whereas typing notes leads to more distractions overall.
I usually type when I'm exhausted and know I'm not going to be able to process information very well in class. But I definitely agree. Handwriting for the win !
I was frustrated by having to write copious notes that helped me learn my IT cert book but is over 1300 pages. This video helped explain why notes are better.
I agree. Handwriting notes is so much better than typing them. Since I am a visual learner, when studying biology I always preferred handwriting my notes because it allowed me to draw out anatomy diagrams and cell structures so that I could get a better understanding.
I completed my engineering few months ago. And the thing that helped me was to take notes on my pdf document with my laptop. When you type, you can blast (hoping your typing speed is fast enough) almost everything the professor says by typing and also processing with your brain at the same time. Later at home, you can retype things in the pdf to making it more readable and understandable. This is already a revision on it's own. This is also way more organised and things are in place when you need it. Even during exam times, i "rarely" used papers around the end of the years. I was revising everything on my laptop, cuz typing was way less tiring and extremely faster than writing everything on paper. I used papers to write the layout of a chapter so i can used them when revising chapters on my head and don't have to reopen my laptop every other second. when you write on the other hand, it takes time + when you are writing the first sentence, the professor is already 5 sentences away and now you have no idea what happened. From my experience, using laptop was the best. The grades i received were always equal or greater than 15/20. In all the lectures that i typed on my laptop, i might be an outlier on the experiment talked on the video. Also, if your professor allows, record the lecture. That will be a gem during exam revision. Nothing agains using paper, just sharing what worked for me the best for some of the most difficult and technical lectures in my university. NOTE: when you are in the lecture typing, you have to be really focused, pay attention and really try to enjoy the course material, this way you really understand the material on one go. Later retyping to make things proper will make you remember them even better.
In an American law school that strategy doesn't work, because the professor isn't imparting knowledge. In classes where the professor is sharing knowledge, then capturing that knowledge is very important. But in an American law school class, one only needs about half a page worth of notes for a two hour classroom discussion. This is because the professor is demonstrating how to think.
I totally agree with this as handwritten notes offer much more flexibility. Furthermore, taking notes helps material truly get committed to memory, whereas typing notes leads to more distractions overall. I like to hand write my notes. It allows me to draw things easily. I heard that you remember things better when you write them, but that could also apply to typing. I don't know, I just feel like I remember better when writing.
@@Learnlawbetter I do write short notes only, since the exams are gonna be online, this would be really helpful ☺ Thank you for your reply, keep up your good work. God bless you ♥️ Lots of love from SriLanka🇱🇰
I personally cannot see how people can take notes online. I am a bit more old schooled when it comes with taking notes. I enjoy traditionally writing down the lectures into my notebooks and like what many of these commentators are saying, it is easier to remember and learn things that you write down. Lastly I believe notebooks are much easier to organize and I wouldn't have to worry about losing my work on a computer.
I really don't know, but I suspect that it varies from person to person. Here is my suggestion: spend a week handwriting and then the next week typing. Then stop and reflect on those two weeks, comparing your output and creativity each week.

You're such a nice teacher and a nice person. The topic, research and conclusion is bang on. Thank you .

I use one note. I am able to write my notes on my computer using a stylus. I am then able to convert my handwriting to text for my outline.
Sounds like a good approach. You actually write, and then the computer does the conversion--better than just typing your notes.
Wow, this was so helpful , i'll be sure to write everything down now while studying for a test. Thanks for the info
Glad you found this useful, and hope you do well on the test!
Thanks
Completely agree with this method. Great video!

Writing relatively short notes is great, but capturing everything the professor says is usually not useful.

In case of creative writing like writing short stories (fiction) which one is better? Writing or typing?
I really don't know, but I suspect that it varies from person to person. Here is my suggestion: spend a week handwriting and then the next week typing. Then stop and reflect on those two weeks, comparing your output and creativity each week.
Another benefit is there isn't a Messenger or WhatsApp app for paper.

Great video
What is taught on First day law class?
Brilliant and Eminently Useful.
Thank you, let me know if there are any other topics you would like me to cover.
That I shall certainly do.
Hi sir, How about photocopying a typed notes VS hand written notes : both are paperwork - (especially to manage time)
When you hand write, your brain spends more time on each word, and that’s why it is more effective.
@@Learnlawbetter Thank you, i will stop photo copying of hand written notes and start writing on my own.

its really a great video ((me thinking about buying a ipad or not

Thumbs up
