  • YC Onion just released their latest and the BEST carbon monopod PINETA. It is supposed to be better than the previous (apparently voted best amongst RUclips videos) the iFootage Cobra. How does it fair? Here's my review. #olympus #omsystem #yconion

It is indeed yet, the carbon version is pretty expensive, but like all premium tripods, you do get what you paid.

Jimmy checkout a Manfrotto 685B. I have one and although I don’t use monopods often it works great. It came out about 10-12 years ago and seems to be discontinued. But I saw a used one for $107. I think they were about $200 new. Mine was $140. Manfrotto invented this auto locking system. You can fully extend it with one hand, it very tall at 68 inches fully extended. It’s aluminum and mine weighs in at 2.5 pounds. I also have a Benro A38TD with the three support legs on the bottom. It came out long before the i footage version. Not all new products are really new ideas, just copies of old ideas with maybe some improvements.

I wouldn't disagree. I've seen Manfrotto's Neotec locks on their monopod and video tripod range. Clever indeed. This is very similar, just instead of a pistol grip, it has a latch. I've had Manfrotto light stand that features similar internals but failed after a year of use, hence my comment in this video on reliability. While all these internal locks is cool, I always think that they are difficult to service or fix. Time will tell indeed. I've also tried Benro A38TD way back too :) Overall, it's the final execution that makes the difference. Most monopods/tripods have come to a point that they can't improved much, to be frank.

Cool monopod but I don't think it's worth twice the price of the iFootage Cobra 3.

The height of this Onion ,for me is a big no-no. I am 6feet 4inch tall. The cobra ,the carbon , extends all the way up to 6 feet-ish(180cm)

I'm sad that this channel has become more about featuring sponsored gear and less about photography. Oh well, we all need to earn a living, I guess.

Actually if you go down the list of his past videos he has a pretty good mix.

Sponsorship or product placements help my channel to re-coup some costs, as I mentioned in my previous video (The Death of DPReview), most won't realise the time and effort in producing videos. Many think creators like me makes a lot of money from RUclips, the fact is, a big fat NO. I do earn money, but barely cover the costs I make these videos. I make my living from my full time photography and video jobs, but as RUclips is my hobby and community place, any sponsors are welcome as they can help me make more 'free' contents for people to watch. I want to make more educational contents, yet, believe me or not, they got the least views (and least money). So if I want to make those videos, I need to have some sponsored videos like these to supplement.
