Today, we’re going to be finding out vocabulary differences between Australian style English and New Zealand style English aka Kiwi English!
Australia and New Zealand are close to each other but they have their own words as well!
Let’s find out the differences with Walter and Kate!

And her Māori intro was 100%, depending where you are from in Nz there are dialects. It’s the first language of Nz
Some places in Australia also call corner shops "milk bars". Maybe that's connected to dairies in NZ.
In the Australian state of Victoria, we call convenience stores "Milk Bar" - I believe in South Australia it's a "Deli".
Here in W.A. It is also a Deli. But I do know of them as Corner Stores as well. Not Milk Bar though

I grew up in Perth and have only ever heard it called a deli.
In QLD it’s called a corner store 🤔
At 2:18 , that kind of store is also known as a "Milkbar" in some parts of Australia
Or deli.
In my school in the UK, we never called it correction fluid - we just called it tipp-ex because that's the brand over here

corner shop in western Australia is called a deli
Especially as in Freo where I live, there is a shop called the Corner Store. And it’s not a Deli.

In UK, we never use correction fluid, we say tipp-ex. Corner shop is common, because most of the shops are on the corner of a street. (They can also be called sweetshops)

In the Philippines, correction fluid is called "snowpake." I have no idea why is such though 😂

In the UK we say cool box not cooler and I never say correction fluid. We tend to use the brand name as well, which is Tipp-ex.

In some places in the US there are “dairy stores” too. They are drive up convenience stores. But they are sort of old fashioned and disappearing.
As a australian i have never called it a corner store most people i know call it a "deli"

Here in the US, I think "flip flops" were more often referred to as "thongs" a few decades ago. However, nowadays, "thongs" typically refer to the undergarments.
There are some regional variations to the word "convenience store". In the Midwest, we typically called them "party stores". And I think they are often called "bodegas" in NYC.

The corner shop is called “milk bar” too here In Australia close enough to “dairy” I suppose. Haha another comment mentioned it too.. well I’m in Melbourne I know it’s called that here dunno about the rest of Australia

Good to see Walter again 🙂 I'm old enough to remember when white-out was new in Australia, in the early 80s. The first brand I remember was Liquid Paper. We used that term for other brands too, when they came onto the market.
In the US convenience store, corner store, deli, and Bodega are used interchangeably. It often depends on where you live in the US.
In the UK we call it Tippex, not correction fluid (it is the brand name here)

NZ has both, but the sausages are a specific type that are about 10cm long & also known as cocktail sausages.
In Australia a Corner shop is a Milk Bar. And white out is also called Liquid paper.
Not all parts. In Perth we call them a deli which is short for delicatessen. As for wite-outs, we can also call them correction tape/liquid or liquid paper too but mostly just wite-outs.
In India the 1st one are known as slippers..

In American English I’ve never heard correction fluid either. It’s always Wite Out for me and people around me. Interesting.

Kiosk? Waw that is similar with indonesian. Sometimes we call it kios, but mostly warung or ruko
we call it dairy because those shops used to be the only place you get your dairy products like milk back in the day in new zealand, and they would have big signs that would say like dairy products, so it turned into dairy.
I think in Australia, people call corner shop "milk bar".
Jandals in Indonesia is called Sandals. It sounds similar tho
Tippex is what we say in the U.K. & Ireland, no one calls it correction fluid.
In English we say tipex for ‘white-out’ and we say cool-box for ‘cooler.’
Kia ora also has another meaning to it other than hello it also means thank you
It was also a drink I remember sold in cinemas in the 1970s and 1980s in the UK. Named after the Maori word.

Hello billy, i m studying British English. But I m stuck in intermediate plateau for almost a year. I really want to jump to advanced level speaker so bad. But I keep losing motivation whenever I study! And my country is currently having political affairs, so it is impossible for me to go out and talk to native speakers. Do u have any tips of how to keep myself motivated to continue learning and keep on track without any distractions? How to make your mindset just to focus on studying to become an advanced speaker?
Not sure what country you’re in but there’s an app that’s available in most countries than you can learn languages on. Just to point out Koreans tend to speak American English in Korea.
