My Son's Homophobic Insults And False Ab*se Claims Against My Husband Forced Me To Send Him To Live With His Mom.
    --------
In this story, Sean (37M) shares how his 16-year-old son’s homophobic behavior and false accusations against Sean’s husband, Zack (36M), forced him to take drastic action. Sean and Zack have been together since Sean’s son was 7, and Zack became a beloved father figure to the boy over the years. They had a close relationship, and at one point, the son even started calling Zack his "other dad."
However, things changed when Sean’s son had three friends over for a video game session. Zack overheard the boys making homophobic remarks, including slurs, insults about Sean and Zack’s relationship, and even false suggestions that Zack may have abused the son when he was younger. Although Sean’s son initially laughed along and didn’t seem serious, he also made threats about Zack and agreed with his friends' disgusting comments.
Zack was deeply hurt and left the house after the incident. When Sean returned home, he confronted his son. Initially, the boy was unapologetic and agreed with his friends' remarks, even suggesting that "memories of abuse" might be suppressed, despite knowing Zack never harmed him. Outraged by his son’s hurtful behavior and unwillingness to acknowledge the gravity of his actions, Sean decided to send him to live with his mother, even though it would drastically change his son's life. Sean was heartbroken by the situation, especially seeing how much it devastated Zack, who had been a supportive and loving stepfather for years.

OP did the right thing. What the son said was horrendous, but I also understand that kids who have been a victim of bullying can be convinced to say/do some pretty awful stuff to try and make it stop. I am glad that the son, OP and husband are all willing to try and fix things.

Thanks so much for your comment and perspective! It's definitely a tough situation, and Sean had to make a really difficult decision. What do you think could be the best way for Sean and Zack to rebuild trust with his son, if that's even possible? Would love to hear more thoughts from you and others!

NTA, im not a member the community. That was not acceptable of the son. Must learn consequences to actions, and the son must also work out the feelings with a therapist. There was a LOT of damage done over trying to look cool for some loser friends.

I only state that as not being a member, it’s NEVER okay to act in that manner or show hate.

I totally agree - the son's behavior was completely unacceptable, and it's sad how much damage can be done just to impress the wrong crowd. You're right that therapy could be key here. There’s clearly a lot of underlying issues that need to be worked through, both for the son and to hopefully heal the family relationship in the future.

That’s tough. But words do hurt, and once said cannot be taken back. I hope Zach learns from this situation.
But he should have definitely stood up for the people who loved him to his friends. I hope he learned a life lesson from this.

I'm confused.. You're on reddit and you're getting hate as a gay man? Did reddit change?

I get it, we're all dickheads at 16. I think the Dad overreacted, slightly.
I'm not convinced this story's real, because if my Dad kicked me out, there's no way I'd ever want to come back.
The damage would be irreparable, I'd probably become genuinely homophobic, if I weren't before.
    11:20
Again, don't think that story's real. Boys don't talk about their feelings at that age, and the Dad would already know that.
    14:30
I guess it's possible, but still sounds like a fantasy. Young men will gladly destroy everything for perceived insults.
My Dad treating me like a criminal, for Bullshiting with dickhead friends? Ah Hell No!
I'm not a parent, and I'm not really sure what I'd do in this situation. The boy definitely needs better "friends", and my own Dad would never let me disrespect my mother, but ultimatums usually lead to war.

It's the Bi-ble, not the Straight-ble. "YOU CANT FORCE THAT KIND OF LIFE ON ANYONE ESPECIALY A KID" Agreed, you should never force straightness on anyone. Also, you need to retake grade school English.
