During the shut down I had to do some work involving treated 6x6's. I needed to make a mobile "floor" for our big vise and stand while working on a backhoe my dad bought so we didn't have to keep running down to the shed. I had three pieces that were cut to 12 inches each so I could put them side by side and after thinking of different ways to put them together, I figured the best way would be to drive huge lag screw through them. What I found were these massive, 12" x 1/4" landscaping screws that used a Torx bit to drive them in (cost me $2 each!). I pre-drilled some holes to get them started and used my 1/2in impact wrench with the standard black 4.0amp battery to drive them. Needless to say, it got a little warm by the time I was done, but it drove six screws into the wood with almost no resistance. One of these days I'll upgrade to the HP batteries for the brushless stuff, but for now the black batteries seem to work just fine :D
Probably not much difference because both 4.0Ah HP and 4.0Ah Black are using the same Sony VTC4 battery cells according to the Home Depot technical datasheets. Not sure how much more those two extra contacts can extract out of those cells. As such (at least on paper), I think the 4.0Ah Black might be a better value than the 3.0Ah HP which uses Samsung 15M cells. Sony VTC4 is 2100mah/30A, Samsung 15M is 1500mah/23A. It'd be cool if you can test those two.. 4.0 Black versus 3.0 HP since their pricing is similar where I am. Great work. Love your channel!

Thank you for this test. HP is more powerful for sure; however, it would be fair to the consumer that the price would be at 15%~25% premium over the regular P197 cells and not at 40% premium considering the average performance percentage difference.
Thanks for doing the testing on these batteries. I'm planning on buying the Ryobi days 2 pack 4 amp hour batteries and wanted to know what the difference was. 😎👍

What weak sauce impact driver are you using at 10:48 here? I got a refurbished P237 for $35, and I feel like it would smoke that impact driver, but maybe not. Is that an older driver you're using?
Tried some Ryobi tools in the real world today, I can't believe they sell these marketed as tools. It was honestly embarrassing! Used their drill to drill through a pad lock with metal bits took about 25 minutes same lock different door with my trusty DeWalt, done in 2 minutes. I can't wrap my brain around liking/actually purchasing these "tools"
John Bowman I completely understand what your saying .... but that’s why they have different kinds of drills.... some are cheap and week for your household stuff like frame hanging.... then you got some powerful ones ...so your opinion is just that ....with no physical evidence and proof of models to compare it to the dewalt it really doesn’t justify choosing a side .... maybe your dewalt was the top of the line and the Ryobi one was the $40 drill....
Very hard to believe, unless you did the dewalt first then the ryobi using the same bit(wearing out the bit). Or used a different bit with the ryobi. Or they were different locks. Or.... I have a brushless dewalt drill and ryobi brushless. Work similarly. What model ryobi and dewalt you were using?
it all depends on what battery you used for any brand. if I use a 1.5 on dewalt and a 6ah on Ryobi, Ryobi will be more powerful and faster and visa versa, now if you used an old model Ryobi then yea. it will suck
Great video! I had a ton of the 4Ah HP's but I bought a ton of the Stick Vacs & removed the regular 4Ah & replaced it with the 4Ah HP as to compliment the Brushless Motor of the stick vac. Plus I added in the bundle a "Pre-Filter" & spare main filter in the kit. Can't wait for the UpRoar vid! Keep on counting down & keeping it trashy!!
That blower is the Ryobi inflate or. But don't even think of using that inflator with the black 4 amp hour battery. Something about that battery and Tool combination causes the tool to cut out after several second. Every time. I went through four of those black 4 amp hour batteries and two of those blowers before I determined the black 4 amp hour batteries are not compatible with all Ryobi tools. Sad.
Can you do a video of the Lithium+ HP vs Black Lithium batteries on a brushed tool like the basic leaf blower, basic handheld Vacuum and other items that are not brushless? I have a few brushed items like the string trimmer and handheld vacuum. But I want to upgrade the battery. I am torn between getting the Lithium+ HP or just keep using my old lithium black battery. Maybe next year Ryobi will come out with a Ryobi Lithium+ Super HP+ Ultra that will blow all the existing batteries out of the water!
I got my dad a ryobi brushless grinder and it kicks out all the time. He's got the grey batteries. Any recommendations on what battery to use? I got the ridgid grinder and it will kick out with normal batteries but not the high output. From this test both batteries kinda look the same in power delivery.
Great info thanks. I recently purchased the off the shelf 6.0 AH HP battery for $139 and I have never drained it with any of my projects. I see now they sell a 9.0 AH battery for $20 more. Have you ever used either one and is it worth the money Thanks again for your Vids
What are your thoughts on the 4ah batter deal for Father’s Day vs the 3HP they did at Christmas time? My opinion is the Christmas deal was way better. Because the flexibility of power with the HP. And I heard they use better cells. But I trust your opinion greatly so I ask you.
Performance wise the difference seems to be negligible for most peoples application. That being the case the next thing to consider is an accurate measurement of the remaining charge and the time it took to recharge each battery. I feel like you do a good job of telling half of the story but it seems like it's the untold half that's going to tell me which battery to spend my money on...
Agree. Would be great to use a meter and measure. However heat also impacts performance. Including recharge time. That being said fast charge is convenient but not great for battery health. No point charging a hot battery for speed tests. It’s interesting from a marketing point of view. They are suppose to be both 18v/4ah. So obviously I think manufactures are getting away with rounding/generalizing. HP batteries may be a different quality battery. Actual 4ah or even plus more. Don’t let the lawyers get wind of regular battery being less than 4ah. Ryobi has become a very nice tool. Love my Makita. But Ryobi marketing department has paid off.
What is the WH rating on the black and on the grey ? I have 2 different grey ...a 42WH and a 72WH ...looking at the 6AH and the 9AH WH rating too . I'm sure it has something to do with how long they last and the power .
I have some ryobi stuff and never knew that the 3ah batteries I have are HP batteries until I watched your videos and checked them. lol I didn't even know they existed until your videos. Unfortunately though, none of my tools are HP though. Am I right in assuming the HP's are the brushless tools? Great videos by the way.
I really hope someone sees this because I would love to know the difference between the Lithium+ gray battery with the green stem and the lithium+HP gray battery black stem, I know the +hp has extra terminals on the battery for extra power to brushless tools but what about the green stem ones?
Is that what that is? I have the standard brushless drill and even when it's not under load, sometimes it just stops. It's not a lot, but every once in a great while I'll have to double pull the trigger. Like it fell asleep.
FYI next test you do for battery to battery go ahead and tell us what the charge is when you're done that way we know whether it's 60 or a hundred or whatever it isthank you for doing this review to let other people know
Does the 4ah+HP last longer then the black 4ah? For the addition price is it work to get the +HP if I dont have the brushless tools? Also have you every tested the difference between the lithium+ and the basic lithium?
Nice comparison, but I can’t justify spending 2x the price to have such little power gain unless I was running them on a chopsaw or skill saw or something like that but for drills and impacts the standard 4.0 blacks are plenty good n still outlast my buddies with dewalt and makita 👍🏻
Actually time of drill is not correct comparison for battery. The best it would be if you check how many openings can make tool with different battery.
just got a 6amp HP battery (expensive) and im just gonna take everyones and the manufacturers word that the HP batteries are better. i do have an brushless HP impact driver I use constantly at work. The HP batteries work with the Brushless tools. it reads a chip in the battery telling it it needs more power. so the battery gives it more power for that task. the 3ah HP batteries work the best in my opinion, but I do thank you for viewing Tim
Just because you were in the same stump doesn't mean the wood consistency was the same. You should have moved to a new spot and tried it again. Also, you should have tried a different battery , and not both at the same time.,
Sadly, you are comparing the old black battery, which is not a lithium plus, to a lithium plus HP. I have found that under load, the lithium plus batteries hold up the voltage under load without sagging much better than to the non-plus batteries. The lithium + batteries used higher-quality cells inside. And sadly it looks like Ryobi is going to do away completely with the lithium plus batteries. Grab them when you find them, folks.
You should run your tests more like "Project Farm", as his channel uses weights to provide repeatable test, which eliminate inconsistency of your body weight pushing down. Thanks anyway for your review, but its not extremely accurate.

It would be nice to go into a Home Depot in Canada to find a Ryobi tools or any tool you were looking for and I have to use in price but no they bring their tools to Canada and expect the Canadians to pay three times the price for these cheap tools I thought Ryobi tools supposed to be the handyman tool it has a pro tool price well this is my review

What model ryobi and dewalt you were using?
and if you were to use a Ramset you would have the lock open in one second......
it all depends on what battery you used for any brand. if I use a 1.5 on dewalt and a 6ah on Ryobi, Ryobi will be more powerful and faster and visa versa, now if you used an old model Ryobi then yea. it will suck
I suggest you dont lose your key again n keep a spare one in your car
Are those with the tabs in the back? In the UK I see the 4.0 grey version and I don't see the extra tabs for the hp tools
Keep on counting down & keeping it trashy!!
lo Thank you greg
Curious, what’s that small blower that you have? I’m looking for one for my computer and since I have Ryobi already might as well go with that
I do thank you so much for viewing :)
Sad.
Flirtin with the magic smoke after those lags lol
lol I thank you for viewing J W
Can you do a video of the Lithium+ HP vs Black Lithium batteries on a brushed tool like the basic leaf blower, basic handheld Vacuum and other items that are not brushless? I have a few brushed items like the string trimmer and handheld vacuum. But I want to upgrade the battery. I am torn between getting the Lithium+ HP or just keep using my old lithium black battery. Maybe next year Ryobi will come out with a Ryobi Lithium+ Super HP+ Ultra that will blow all the existing batteries out of the water!
yes I can
@@ManCaverTools sorry if I'm blind, but did you ever try this (video or otherwise)? How'd it go/link? Thanks!!
I got my dad a ryobi brushless grinder and it kicks out all the time. He's got the grey batteries. Any recommendations on what battery to use? I got the ridgid grinder and it will kick out with normal batteries but not the high output. From this test both batteries kinda look the same in power delivery.
yes, I think the black batteries have more power than the grey ones. but we will test that out as well
Great info thanks. I recently purchased the off the shelf 6.0 AH HP battery for $139 and I have never drained it with any of my projects. I see now they sell a 9.0 AH battery for $20 more. Have you ever used either one and is it worth the money Thanks again for your Vids
I use the higher ah batteries for vacuums, fans, stuff like that
You should take them apart and compare the insides of the batteries
I will and thank you
I was wondering if you're recording this data (times, conditions, failures...). It would be great to publish.
I have the footage still.
If you had to choose between 3 AH HP batteries versus 4AH black batteries which would you take?
id still chose the HP batteries
What are your thoughts on the 4ah batter deal for Father’s Day vs the 3HP they did at Christmas time? My opinion is the Christmas deal was way better. Because the flexibility of power with the HP. And I heard they use better cells. But I trust your opinion greatly so I ask you.
the battery deal is great, but I wish it had brushless tools for the free tool. the HP batteries are better
which battery has more run time if using on ryobi led light
the one with the most AH
What tool were you using and did it have HP contacts?
Performance wise the difference seems to be negligible for most peoples application. That being the case the next thing to consider is an accurate measurement of the remaining charge and the time it took to recharge each battery.
I feel like you do a good job of telling half of the story but it seems like it's the untold half that's going to tell me which battery to spend my money on...
more tests are coming and thank you Backcountry
Ill take a look and thank you Bruce
I have some ryobi stuff and never knew that the 3ah batteries I have are HP batteries until I watched your videos and checked them. lol I didn't even know they existed until your videos. Unfortunately though, none of my tools are HP though. Am I right in assuming the HP's are the brushless tools? Great videos by the way.
No the HP+ are but Ryobi is now trying to get us all to buy the none hp and the none + to make them money but not help us the HP has more power
Im doing a grey vs black battery test
The HP Batteries give the Brushless tools and it gives it that extra power
I'll bet you're dreaming of the day, the home depot opens a beer garden . Soap Stick Heaven. Aye .
lol
So what's the difference between Lithium+ HP batteries and I guess are new High Performance batteries?
yes, more tests will be coming against the new HP batteries that were just released in 2021
Shouldnt you be appling a fixed known amount of weight? for these tests
Compare these batteries again , please, in a constant drain situa
I can do that and I thank you sir
I really hope someone sees this because I would love to know the difference between the Lithium+ gray battery with the green stem and the lithium+HP gray battery black stem, I know the +hp has extra terminals on the battery for extra power to brushless tools but what about the green stem ones?
I got another video coming
Awesome! Thank you!
Do the regular 4ah last as long as the hp on a charge or is it just a power difference between the two?
The HP batteries are more powerful but doesn't last as and the regular batteries
@@ManCaverTools thank you. There's a sale 80 for 2 black. I usually wait for 2 for hunski (silver)
How come you didn't use the one half inch impact , instead of the one quarter inch model ! The proper tool for the job ?
I am sorry about that sir
I hate the overload protection on the hammer drill especially in speed 2 it’s less with the hp batteries but the others it’s bad but Ryobi still rocks
Love Ryobi and thank you
Is that what that is? I have the standard brushless drill and even when it's not under load, sometimes it just stops. It's not a lot, but every once in a great while I'll have to double pull the trigger. Like it fell asleep.
Dude I need some updated Ryobi cordless tools
I think it Is time sir and thank
I have all of those tools other than that little blower and I am just starting at it right now.....
Do you have a video of the black 4h vs the regular hp?
yes I do. but I think it is time. to revisit this test
I'd Have To Go Look For The Receipt - But I Think I Picked Up A 2 Pack Of The 4 Ah HP Batteries On Sale For $99.00 About A Year Ago....
Very good and thank you very much
FYI next test you do for battery to battery go ahead and tell us what the charge is when you're done that way we know whether it's 60 or a hundred or whatever it isthank you for doing this review to let other people know
I thank you very much
I would try an impact wrench over an impact driver. Crazy how that driver can still handle sockets.
they are powerful and all brands are the same way
I'm fairly new to this channel, but do you really need to count down before the start of everything? Otherwise I'm digging the content so far. 👍
I can try to cut that out. it annoys me as well as im editing the video
@@ManCaverTools I second this person's comment. The countdowns bother me a bit too. Thanks for taking the time to make videos!
I Hardley Use My Black & Decker Matrix Drill

Wiring Through For Building Speakers.
very good and I thank you for viewing Roger
Thanks for the nice test, I’m always debating if I should get the HP! Also, have you tried the Bosch impact adapter?
I am glad I can help and I have not used the Bosch adaptor yet
Does the 4ah+HP last longer then the black 4ah? For the addition price is it work to get the +HP if I dont have the brushless tools? Also have you every tested the difference between the lithium+ and the basic lithium?
we are going to test that out in the summer. the lawnmower is a perfect test for that
Nice comparison, but I can’t justify spending 2x the price to have such little power gain unless I was running them on a chopsaw or skill saw or something like that but for drills and impacts the standard 4.0 blacks are plenty good n still outlast my buddies with dewalt and makita 👍🏻
It is worth it if you do serious work, and it isn't twice as much. There is a $20 difference for a 2-pack 4ah at home depot now.
Actually time of drill is not correct comparison for battery. The best it would be if you check how many openings can make tool with different battery.
I thank you so much fore viewing
just got a 6amp HP battery (expensive) and im just gonna take everyones and the manufacturers word that the HP batteries are better. i do have an brushless HP impact driver I use constantly at work. But i have a hard time with these youtube tests. doesnt wood have various hard spots and soft spots all throughout it? so how 'valid' are these tests...?
proceeds to test hp batteries on non-hp tools
Also your chuck is suppose to move like that its a hammer drill, that is what gives you the Hammer function!!!! just thought i would let you know brother, and take it to home depot they will give you a New one or fix any issues on your hammer drill!!! 3 Year warranty buddy
I have 2 hammer drills, one id brand new. the chuck doesn't move newly as much as the one I abuse.
hold up you never pecked the hp batt when doing the spade bit test
ill check that out and thank you
Yeah as lopsided as his opinions are the regular Batts seemed to hold a charge better too if you watch the times they weren't off by as much as he favors the hps. I'll take an extra battery and charger for $30. Learn how to do comparison videos. We are all watching because we like Ryobi. Do you use a BT3000 EVERYDAY? I DO. It's not about how much green you have in your shop ease up a lil wanna be fan boy and look at your tape
Makita makes the toughest adapter
so far that is 100% correct
Waited too long. It's now $120.
That thing was smoking after the lag bolt
I have 3 4 amp hp battery s I like them.
very good and more tests coming
Thge regular battery did better on the lag screw because it had rest time for the cells to recover.
Have the regular black 4ah replaced the 4ah + ?
it appears so
What the heck never seen that little blower I want that
its worth it and its my 2nd favorite tool. Ryobi power inflator
Man Caver Tools I searched the web for it as soon as I left comment and picked one up. I love it too
Home Depot has 2 4.o ah for $79 dollars
correct. take the deal while you can
Just got the deal for $99. But with a Free tool. Got the $69. Jigsaw. All said and done the batteries were about $58 and the jigsaw was $41. They charged it that way. Great deal.
Why were you constantly only lifting the drill piece out mid drill on the non HP battery? Seems like an unfair test, ate up a good second each time.
Is hp 2170 cells
on the P195 is so far, but we will see what the new batteries are
your hammer drill was on like 16 on the Clutch, you didn't even have it on Max, mode!!! i think you should re-do the test on the Hammer drill
The clutch doesn't matter what its on if its in drill mode. The clutch does not activate on drill mode
Ryobi Man Caver ( yes it does only on drill mode it does, because it has to be on one of the 3 settings either way. I promise you I’m still more the clutch absolutely matters!!!!
Ryobi Man Caver ( I’m almost positive I just did the same test you did in drill mode with my clutch on the highest setting and smashed the test I’m a fraction of the time)
Ryobi Man Caver either that or your drill needs to replaced lol!!! Take that thing to Home Depot ( Rental Center ) if they can’t fix it they will send it out and send you a New one!!! The process is very easy buddy
@@Akerleyc1989 clutch is for driver mode. And he said the drill was shot and needed to be replaced.
You should do the 9 amp battery
more test are coming
A surprise result I must say 🤔
Was expecting better i guess lol
I am as well
ill be doing grey vs black soon
This whole test was pointless.
Tim from Canada I am just watching your video this is what I bought at the Home Depot’s in Canada on Thursday, November 26, 2020 black Friday deals in USA so Canada has black Friday deals at the Home Depot this is what I bought do not know the video you are doing is the same battery I just bought some I can tell me the differencethe difference (Ryobi 4Ah hi capacity lithium battery over 3x The running time price at Home Depot in Canada limited time only (2 -- 4Ah batteries price $ 119 Canadian. This is the cheapest I’ve ever seen these batteries just one battery goes for at least Home Depot in Canada for a one battery $168 is the price on a normal day if you can find these batteries which is damn near impossible in Canada this is my rearview if someone can tell me the difference between what I bought and what is on this video would be most appreciated thank you very much
The HP batteries work with the Brushless tools. it reads a chip in the battery telling it it needs more power. so the battery gives it more power for that task. the 3ah HP batteries work the best in my opinion, but I do thank you for viewing Tim
Are you referring to model #P145?? At home Depot in Canada??? It's still $119 is worth the buy. What's the difference between P145 & P129??
If you use punctuation, we won't be trying to make sense out of run-on sentences.
The difference is the HP uses higher quality batteries.
Just because you were in the same stump doesn't mean the wood consistency was the same. You should have moved to a new spot and tried it again. Also, you should have tried a different battery , and not both at the same time.,
I thank you for viewing :)
Really dude? 15 minutes. Pass.🙄
I Have 4 4Ah Battery's & 1 9Ah & 2 2Ah & 2 1.5Ah
Battery's.
very good and I thank you again
You should run your tests more like "Project Farm", as his channel uses weights to provide repeatable test, which eliminate inconsistency of your body weight pushing down. Thanks anyway for your review, but its not extremely accurate.
Ryobi hp battery won
yes it did but now by much
Cute
.
TIM from Canada I really don’t care on the speed with Ryobi tools and your testing I am just impressed that a cheap Ryobi drill like that can actually do the work everything in Canada has gone up at least three times the price on Ryobi drills and other Big names and drills you can thank COVID-19 for this do you know you can get a better price for drills in the USA and in the UK for better selections and a more variety of drills and you can in Canada let me explain you to this song Thursday, November 26 2020 so USA has Thanksgiving so they had their black Friday deals I went into Home Depot to get batteries just like what he’s got on his video here it was only two days into this holiday.. deal and I got there and I got the last battery this is supposed to be a black Friday deal they are supposed to have deals for everyone which I find is very disappointing for Home Depot and let me tell you the selection they had at the Home Depot the one I went to was very disappointing very little tools they had all the names out that were supposed.. on sale but they have very little there and supplies they might’ve had one or two of each item for example Ryobi batteries were supposed to be the big one like he is explaining to you in this video very little supply very little demand Home Depot‘s in Canada very disappointing especially with Ryobi tools"ever since COVID-19 has hit Ryobi has made it to Maine object of you over a price The Ryobi brand. It would be nice to go into a Home Depot in Canada to find a Ryobi tools or any tool you were looking for and I have to use in price but no they bring their tools to Canada and expect the Canadians to pay three times the price for these cheap tools I thought Ryobi tools supposed to be the handyman tool it has a pro tool price well this is my review
im sorry about that Nash. these tests are to show what they are capable of
Apparently your sponsored by tacklife and Ryobi because you sure plug them in your vid’s. Anyway not enough difference to justify the cost difference when 1 hp cost more than 2 black. Only real difference is hp offers little longer run time. Thanks
this is a very old video and no I was not sponsored by Ryobi or takclife back then
Ryobi is ok but they shut off when pushed to hard its luke they that on purpose so you brag about Milwaukee
I agree, the safety kicks in too soon sometimes
You never do summaries. I can't watch 15 minutes of drills just doing stuff without some data sheets at the end to summarize
Not very meaningful as the operator can apply a difference in hand pressure in each to alter the result.
Einhell vs ryobi
I thank you sir
@@ManCaverTools thanks to you I follow you I live in Italy🇮🇹🇮🇹😉
@@ManCaverTools if you go to my RUclips channel see the video where I did the hammer drill test on battery einhell model brushlles. what do you think about it?
Your test is moot. Nothing to do with batteries.
All to do with the batteries the new 4ah is nothing to the 4ahhp+ but they charge the same price for them my 6 year old knows the difference and you can't see it in this video
more test videos are coming
New design is terrible
This is an old video, which those batteries are no longer the new design.
