Ridgid tool line is a lot more impressive than people want to give it credit for.... mostly Milwaukee fans like to shitt on Ridgid because they bought three Milwaukee tools and want to pose with their drill driver and impact driver...if you are buying 20 tools Ridgid is the way to go... because you will put out way more money for Milwaukee and if you're not a professional it simply isn't worth it.... the Ridgid tools are in my opinion

Picked up new P262 half inch impact wrench last week. Bare tool. Yesterday the last 2 pack of P191 3ah HP batteries in stock locally. $109. In vehicle charger for $40. Yes, works for HP batteries. The idea is being equipped for emergency repairs at the side of the road etc. 3ah HP batteries seem like they would be an all around good match for the P262. Ironically what led me down this path is the pitman arm nut on my '92 C2500. 33mm, the same size used in the test and the socket I bought for it is identical to the one in the test. Needless to say this had my interest and after watching the impact driver perform I'm confident in the capability and value these new tools and batteries bring to the table. These reviews you do really are quite helpful. I am a technician (not automotive) and have a habit of thinking things through in advance. In nearly every case when I take something apart its because I already have what I need to put it back together repaired. Tools, parts and everything else. Thanks for the demonstrations.
Impressive results for both tools. You should consider getting one of the new P195 3.0 Ah Compact HP battery, it's Ryobi's first 18v battery to use the larger 21700 cells. Also, did you ever followup on the shutdown issues you were having with the P262?
I have the Ryobi 4 mode and it's a beast. I've dropped it a bunch of times and it's a lot stronger than I expected. I was gonna upgrade to a Dewalt but I don't think I need to. Imo this impact could be a pro tool. It keeps up with the best of them.
Good video comparison, I've really been happy with Ridgid tools in general. Ryobi is good too, though Ridgid makes tougher tools IMO + you can't beat their warranty and service agreements! Adding the impact driver head temp. and brushless motor temp. for each drill, post nut torque test would be an interesting addition to your test. Nice video though, wishing I could keep my tools that organized👌

Picked up the combo set back in April 21 and after a year or so Ive got only one complaint...the charger. The tools are rugged and have handled all the abuse Ive put them thru The impact by far is better than a ryobi impact in our shop (as far as I can judge lol). Great set and well worth the $400 or so I paid

We typically choose loosening force to focus on, because that's usually what our viewers are interested in, removing fasteners, etc. So, if we need to cut something short, we're going to do so on the tightening side. I'm a ridgid fan. The new sub compact line is built well. They do to expand their selection though. Ryobi has the selection down. They did well with that. Ridgid does one thing right. All metal on the inside no plastic fan.
I paid $99 for this Rigid impact driver, a drill driver, a 4 ah battery, a 2 ah battery and a charger, refurbished in a cloth case with one year warranty. Looks brand new to me and works great!

Just picked up 2 Ridgid Impact kits for Father's Day. It's awesome that this Impact can break 500 lbs and still work as a highly effective impact driver, all in a great balanced gun... No brainer
I bought the 4 tool combo kit a week ago. It was $399.00 I've been using them all this week and so far they are doing the job with no issues. My only complaint is the battery charger is cheap looking. The cord is like a cellphone charger not the normal cord on their chargers now and I wish they would've had the 6ah and 8ah batteries since the hammer drill and Sawzall really need those battery to bring out the full power of the tools.
You are correct, and I should have covered that. The charger is a bit cheap...I wish they included a better charger. The batteries are their largest cost, so I'm not surprised they're not including 6 and 8Ah. Thanks for watching.
Wow!! The Ridgid Impact Driver with a 2 ah HO battery has more nut busting tq then the Ridgid Subcompact Wrench with a 6ah Octane battery that you tested in another video. I believe it maxed out at 450 tq with 6ah bat. With the larger head on the Ridgid Impact Driver maybe it has a larger motor and mechanics and is more efficient.
Which is kind of crazy when you think about it because these 1/4" impacts are really for construction applications and you're really not going to see that very often except for lag screws I suppose.
Idk what cells are in the new ridge battery’s but I know ryobi is still using less power-dense cells in all of theirs but their compact 3ah hp battery.(p195) 21700 vs 18650
Either will do the job for most people... I'm usually inclined to look for reliability as my number 1 pro, had powertools that haven't lasted a year but have cost an arm and a leg.. I do like the look of the ridgid lineup though pricing also looks reasonable, they're named AEG over here in NZ

Great video. Are you a fan of the new Ridgid Max output batteries? Do you think they really do offer more power. The new brushless option is priced higher then the Gen5X, trying to decide if its worth it, especially with the Gen5x combo kits being sold on clearance right now.
I love my Ryobi tools. But I don't use them daily. If I did, I would probably move to Milwaukee. But Ryobi works for me and they make a pretty good tool.
What socket adapter you use cuz I can't believe you're not breaking them. I guess it's cuz you're loosening if you are tightening I'm sure you'd be snapping them constantly
Great video. Is the back of the ridgid tool real metal or is it plastic made to look like metal ? Curious as it may be better construction than the Ryobi with the all plastic back. The back plate is what typically holds the bearing.
That's weird - I just bought this same Ridgid, and it couldn't even loosen a 100 ft/lb lug nut (with 1/2" adapter & 19mm socket) that I had just freshly torqued and not driven the car yet. Could mine be defective, or could I be missing something?
I have a Ryobi 2 ah high performance and it makes my Ryobi compact hp impact driver run a lot slower and less powerful than with a 1.5 ah black battery. U can hear the difference and I tried it on other one plus brushed tools and it does the same. Your feed back would help alot bc it doesn't make sense. They should at least be the same in power but there's a big difference. Ty
See if you can see a difference on the flash light but I've noticed the same on the 4ah battery I seem to get more power with longer life from the reg battery
My only objection to Ryobi drill tools is that they seem to develop what I call "leprosy". The rubber skin deteriorates over time and starts to peel off. I'm not sure if it's from the sweat in the hands or something else, but it is rather hard on the aesthetics. That doesn't seem to affect the function of the tools, however.
Ryobi has the same internals in their higher end line of impacts, power tools etc. The lowest cost Ryobi options are different. Both brands are made by the same company, different colors and marketing wank are the only things that differentiate a majority of them. 💯

Can you do a video for a ll the one key owners of milwaukee and tongue limit test their precision drive modes. Basically their torque limiter. I have a 2769-20 and 2864-20. I'm a tractor trailer mechanic and being able to use the gun instead of sticks and torque ratchets would be really cool. Or get the tool even closer to spec.
Not that sure why these tests were done when using screws, etc. would be more suitable for an Impact driver instead of using torqued bolts, which s more suitable to run tests for an impact wrench.
It's the same picture.... Also, I own the Ridgid and it does not have the contacts to take advantage of the Max Output battery. (Take a look) I'm not sure about the Ryobi because I don't own it. But I would say there will be no difference between the Max or the standard 2ah battery on the Ridgid.
I was planning on getting a ryobi drill/ impact combo but i guess rigid is way better option when it comes to price/quality ... Ryobi are 179 for the combo with 2.0 batteries and each 4.0 and 5.0 ah batteries cost more than a 100 each so at the end of the day we'll spend way more on ryobi than rigid for the same performance🤷🏼♂️ I need both tools for medium-heavy work. Is rigid a good option or should i go with a different brand?
Had an old Ridgid impact I used for HVAC work for 2 years never failed me I had a battery die once after it fell ~15 ft but the driver was fine got stolen one day so I guess someone thought it was nice enough to steal
I Really would like to see some Real World Applications.. Like Rusted Exhaust, Brake and Suspension Nuts and Bolts from 12MM- 17MM or 3/8s - 5/8s... Anything higher I would use a 1/2" Impact... I wish someone would do a review on those type of applications...
We can do that, but you can't replicate that type work. In other words, you can't continue to find rusted fasteners that are the same size, torqued at the same amount, with the same amount of corrosion. We understand what you're saying, but it's just impossible to do in repetition. That's why we try to use testing methods that provide repeatable tests that provide repeatable quantifiable results. It probably could if the lug nut on the wheel was tightened properly, but we would not recommend this impact driver for use on wheel lugs (screws). Thanks for watching.

Adapters take away a lot of torque from a tool 👌also the Ridgid 3ah discontinued octane batteries give you 4.4%+ more torque on the Ridgid octane tools.
You shouldn't tighten with any impact.. especially a wrench.. you can snug it.. and then use a torque wrench... unless you know 100% you will not twist a bolt... especially lug bolts.
Your 2.0 ah ryobi isnt just an hp battery its hp "high performance" . high performance batteries are ryobi's newest version of battery. Your 3.0ah and 4.0ah are your standard hp
The Amp Hours should really only affect how long the battery charge will last. It should not make a difference in the power of the tool. I think if you had just kept using the 2 AH battery, it would have worked too.
That's not totally true. In theory, you are correct, the Ah is more of just the size of the fuel tank. However, what actually happens (and it's worse as the batteries get smaller) is that as the tool is under load, the smaller batteries tend to drop voltage quicker, so this in turn drops power on the tool. Why would any homeowner, DIYer, or shade tree mechanic need to purchase an actual impact wrench after seeing these results. I know it lacks the fastening torque but we are usually looking for help removing fasteners instead of torquing them back down.
We get what you're saying, but it's not entirely correct. Yes, our testing shows them breaking free fasteners tightened to 500 ft-lb, but these are cleaned and greased before each test. Not really real-world stuff. You will definitely encounter lug nuts that were torqued to ~120 ft-lbs, but after months of driving, rain, mud, and snow, it will take more than these impacts can deliver to remove the lugnut. This is where you need a harder hitting impact wrench to break these free. It's like using a tiny hammer to drive a large nail. You may be able to do it, but it's going to take a lot more strikes. I took the inverse of that. Have the Ridgid 3/8" Subcompact Wrench and also use it for screws and lags. imho - not needing a hex/socket adapter for sockets is a better way to go. Especially for impact wrenching. And a small socket is all thats needed for screw bits. And lags require sockets. Also, the 4 speeds including Auto Mode are a lot more useful then I would have thought. These newer models are so powerful and versatile that no bad decision can be made.
@@ridemfast7625 totally agreed. As these videos show, too much torque ends up breaking the 1/4" to 3/8" or 1/2" adapters more often than not. And there may be some minor torque looses around the way by using adaptors. That' s why I love my Bosch Freak 2. It does have a 1/2" anvil with 1/4" socket and it works great with my 1/2" impact sockets
If I ever need 200ft pounds, I'll buy the 1/2 in drive! I just purchased the 4 mode Ryobi, im sure i will be happy. I just retired the quiet drive Ryobi, cause I accidentaly tossed it 30ft and the motor mount broke. It was run over by a 42 ft scissor lift and was dropped from a 32 ft scissor loft, but finaly was broken when I threw wire and accidentaly grabbed it and it hit just wrong!

It seems more powerful than my older one, and it can be set to be really gentle. The drill is more appropriately sized for my use. I used to have a hammer drill, but I did not like that it was so big and it was not a great hammer drill. I rather have a smaller drill like this, and then get a corded hammer drill for the odd case I need that.
Just picked up the RIgid 862311, same one in your video, and I'm having trouble even busting a lug nut off that I tightened by hand. Couldn't be more then 150 ft/lbs. Maybe you got a special one, I don't know, but I'm not seeing the same torque busting power. I am using a 3/8" drive, but I don't think that should matter that much. In the tools defense it did break a cheaper 3/8" drive bit in half before I tried my better quality dewalt one.
I think the Auto-Mode is a little redundant for all the 'novice' or 'would-be' user. It seems every tool line/manufacturer has a different criteria for what Auto-Mode should be.

I left it in the hot august sun while it had been charging batteries all day. I called in for the LSA. They asked what the problem was. Confirmed the part number and my address, that was it. About 4 days later I had my new charger. I work construction and I use my tools a lot. Never had a problem with any of them. Love my ridgid tools.

I am shocked that they managed 500 ft lbs but when I buy tools I am more concerned with the longevity of the tool because I want them to last a very long time so I go with milwaukee they are just about as dependable as they get not to mention the quality & performance that they have.
Ryobi is a good cheap tool for occasional use, but Ridgid just feels odd. Slightly less expensive than other better brands for an inferior battery platform.
Care to explain? Because. . . Milwaukee, Ridgid, and RYOBI are all made by the same company. Ridgid filled the gap and created straight up 'power' tools with the Octane line. Completely unmatched in EVERY WAY by Milwaukee, which only has a longer lifespan(than average, not ridgid) by processing and functioning at a much slower rate. And unmatched by Dewalt as well, which derives power from heavy amp batteries having better quality output than the tool it's put into. Hints the ridiculous overheating as soon as you start one, and a battery amp hour that dies at an eighth of that time. . . . .Let's be honest. So, Milwaukee makes everything under the sun and already has the "high quality" label. Now suddenly, RYOBI is beefing up their power tools as well as introducing a huge line of larger equipment like mowers, pressure washers, chainsaws, augers, etc. So basically they're shitting on the Ridgid name because they're tired of spending money with the only LSA available, because people do utilize it. They're tired of our shit and want us to buy their red and green shit. Fuck them up their stupid asses. I'm switching to Kobalt; the only other brand I've found(though months of testing for work) that out performs both "Top quality brands". So just wondering if you actually came to that conclusion from experience or because it's what you're told.
For instance, the last 2 days I've been installing a fence at home. I put a large auger attachment in my Ridgid Octane drill driver and dug 22 two ft holes, through solid clay, and mixed all the cement, using only 1 and 1/4th 3ah batteries, and never once did my drill get hot. Ever. There's not a tool in the world by any brand that could match it. Especially not those top two brands, in either spec.

@@mattek519 The tool itself is. Sadly Ryobi switched to China made 18650 cells they don't perform as good as the Name brand Cells in the Ridgid packs. thats the only difference really.
I would rather a 1/4" impact driver shut off if you attempt 200 lb-ft or more. That's hard on the tool, and hard on the bit. That is why 3/8" and larger impact wrenches exist, so wrong tool for the job. Having to use an adapter should have been a hint.
No it's not. Ridgid is very much a pro line tool. It's on par with Dewalt, I would say more reliable and longer lasting. I dropped dewalt after I had two drills literally burn up on the job. My Ridgid tools have never done that. And there are a LOT of tradesmen who will agree with me. Milwaukee and Makita beat it out, but not enough to justify the extra cost for a lot of trades.
We do that quite a lot. We also like to include entry-level tools as well. Interestingly enough, both of these impact drivers just performed better than any other impact driver has done, so far. Just sayin'. Thanks for watching.

Nov 20, 2021 .... That specific Ryobi is $79 bucks vs $129 for that same Rigid. $50 difference.
I bought the 4 tool combo kit a week ago. It was $399.00 I've been using them all this week and so far they are doing the job with no issues. My only complaint is the battery charger is cheap looking. The cord is like a cellphone charger not the normal cord on their chargers now and I wish they would've had the 6ah and 8ah batteries since the hammer drill and Sawzall really need those battery to bring out the full power of the tools.

Wow!! The Ridgid Impact Driver with a 2 ah HO battery has more nut busting tq then the Ridgid Subcompact Wrench with a 6ah Octane battery that you tested in another video. I believe it maxed out at 450 tq with 6ah bat. With the larger head on the Ridgid Impact Driver maybe it has a larger motor and mechanics and is more efficient.
Which is kind of crazy when you think about it because these 1/4" impacts are really for construction applications and you're really not going to see that very often except for lag screws I suppose.

Either will do the job for most people... I'm usually inclined to look for reliability as my number 1 pro, had powertools that haven't lasted a year but have cost an arm and a leg.. I do like the look of the ridgid lineup though pricing also looks reasonable, they're named AEG over here in NZ

I love my Ryobi tools. But I don't use them daily. If I did, I would probably move to Milwaukee. But Ryobi works for me and they make a pretty good tool.

Great video. Is the back of the ridgid tool real metal or is it plastic made to look like metal ? Curious as it may be better construction than the Ryobi with the all plastic back. The back plate is what typically holds the bearing.

That's weird - I just bought this same Ridgid, and it couldn't even loosen a 100 ft/lb lug nut (with 1/2" adapter & 19mm socket) that I had just freshly torqued and not driven the car yet. Could mine be defective, or could I be missing something?

I have a Ryobi 2 ah high performance and it makes my Ryobi compact hp impact driver run a lot slower and less powerful than with a 1.5 ah black battery. U can hear the difference and I tried it on other one plus brushed tools and it does the same. Your feed back would help alot bc it doesn't make sense. They should at least be the same in power but there's a big difference. Ty
See if you can see a difference on the flash light but I've noticed the same on the 4ah battery I seem to get more power with longer life from the reg battery

My only objection to Ryobi drill tools is that they seem to develop what I call "leprosy". The rubber skin deteriorates over time and starts to peel off. I'm not sure if it's from the sweat in the hands or something else, but it is rather hard on the aesthetics. That doesn't seem to affect the function of the tools, however.
Use the ryobi for commercial and residential glazing. Works well!

Ryobi has the same internals in their higher end line of impacts, power tools etc. The lowest cost Ryobi options are different. Both brands are made by the same company, different colors and marketing wank are the only things that differentiate a majority of them. 💯

Can you do a video for a ll the one key owners of milwaukee and tongue limit test their precision drive modes. Basically their torque limiter. I have a 2769-20 and 2864-20. I'm a tractor trailer mechanic and being able to use the gun instead of sticks and torque ratchets would be really cool. Or get the tool even closer to spec.

I know a Flex fan on RUclips that has the Ryobi impact wrench and impact driver. He says they’re both good.
Not that sure why these tests were done when using screws, etc. would be more suitable for an Impact driver instead of using torqued bolts, which s more suitable to run tests for an impact wrench.
It's the same picture.... Also, I own the Ridgid and it does not have the contacts to take advantage of the Max Output battery. (Take a look) I'm not sure about the Ryobi because I don't own it. But I would say there will be no difference between the Max or the standard 2ah battery on the Ridgid.
I was planning on getting a ryobi drill/ impact combo but i guess rigid is way better option when it comes to price/quality ... Ryobi are 179 for the combo with 2.0 batteries and each 4.0 and 5.0 ah batteries cost more than a 100 each so at the end of the day we'll spend way more on ryobi than rigid for the same performance🤷🏼♂️

Had an old Ridgid impact I used for HVAC work for 2 years never failed me I had a battery die once after it fell ~15 ft but the driver was fine got stolen one day so I guess someone thought it was nice enough to steal
I Really would like to see some Real World Applications.. Like Rusted Exhaust, Brake and Suspension Nuts and Bolts from 12MM- 17MM or 3/8s - 5/8s... Anything higher I would use a 1/2" Impact... I wish someone would do a review on those type of applications...
We can do that, but you can't replicate that type work. In other words, you can't continue to find rusted fasteners that are the same size, torqued at the same amount, with the same amount of corrosion. We understand what you're saying, but it's just impossible to do in repetition. That's why we try to use testing methods that provide repeatable tests that provide repeatable quantifiable results. We actually made a video on removing broken impact driver bits. The DeWalt, Husky, and Harbor Freight bits hold up very well. However, we do notice that everyone seems to change the designs on their bits on a regular basis.

Adapters take away a lot of torque from a tool 👌also the Ridgid 3ah discontinued octane batteries give you 4.4%+ more torque on the Ridgid octane tools.

Not 100%. TTI has the licensing to produce tools under the ridgid name. They are not the same as the pluming and pipe fitting tool brand Ridgid.
You shouldn't tighten with any impact.. especially a wrench.. you can snug it.. and then use a torque wrench... unless you know 100% you will not twist a bolt... especially lug bolts.

Ridgid is finally expanding their line soon.
The Amp Hours should really only affect how long the battery charge will last. It should not make a difference in the power of the tool. I think if you had just kept using the 2 AH battery, it would have worked too.
That's not totally true. In theory, you are correct, the Ah is more of just the size of the fuel tank. However, what actually happens (and it's worse as the batteries get smaller) is that as the tool is under load, the smaller batteries tend to drop voltage quicker, so this in turn drops power on the tool. Why would any homeowner, DIYer, or shade tree mechanic need to purchase an actual impact wrench after seeing these results. I know it lacks the fastening torque but we are usually looking for help removing fasteners instead of torquing them back down.
We get what you're saying, but it's not entirely correct. Yes, our testing shows them breaking free fasteners tightened to 500 ft-lb, but these are cleaned and greased before each test. Not really real-world stuff. You will definitely encounter lug nuts that were torqued to ~120 ft-lbs, but after months of driving, rain, mud, and snow, it will take more than these impacts can deliver to remove the lugnut. This is where you need a harder hitting impact wrench to break these free. It's like using a tiny hammer to drive a large nail. You may be able to do it, but it's going to take a lot more strikes. I took the inverse of that. Have the Ridgid 3/8" Subcompact Wrench and also use it for screws and lags. imho - not needing a hex/socket adapter for sockets is a better way to go. Especially for impact wrenching. And a small socket is all thats needed for screw bits. And lags require sockets. Also, the 4 speeds including Auto Mode are a lot more useful then I would have thought. These newer models are so powerful and versatile that no bad decision can be made.
@@ridemfast7625 totally agreed. As these videos show, too much torque ends up breaking the 1/4" to 3/8" or 1/2" adapters more often than not. And there may be some minor torque looses around the way by using adaptors. That' s why I love my Bosch Freak 2. It does have a 1/2" anvil with 1/4" socket and it works great with my 1/2" impact sockets

I just retired the quiet drive Ryobi, cause I accidentaly tossed it 30ft and the motor mount broke. It was run over by a 42 ft scissor lift and was dropped from a 32 ft scissor loft, but finaly was broken when I threw wire and accidentaly grabbed it and it hit just wrong!

It seems more powerful than my older one, and it can be set to be really gentle. The drill is more appropriately sized for my use. I used to have a hammer drill, but I did not like that it was so big and it was not a great hammer drill. I rather have a smaller drill like this, and then get a corded hammer drill for the odd case I need that.
Just picked up the RIgid 862311, same one in your video, and I'm having trouble even busting a lug nut off that I tightened by hand. Couldn't be more then 150 ft/lbs. Maybe you got a special one, I don't know, but I'm not seeing the same torque busting power. I am using a 3/8" drive, but I don't think that should matter that much. In the tools defense it did break a cheaper 3/8" drive bit in half before I tried my better quality dewalt one.

I left it in the hot august sun while it had been charging batteries all day. I called in for the LSA. They asked what the problem was. Confirmed the part number and my address, that was it. About 4 days later I had my new charger. I work construction and I use my tools a lot. Never had a problem with any of them. Love my ridgid tools.

I am shocked that they managed 500 ft lbs but when I buy tools I am more concerned with the longevity of the tool because I want them to last a very long time so I go with milwaukee they are just about as dependable as they get not to mention the quality & performance that they have.

Ryobi is a good cheap tool for occasional use, but Ridgid just feels odd. Slightly less expensive than other better brands for an inferior battery platform.

Because. . . Milwaukee, Ridgid, and RYOBI are all made by the same company. Ridgid filled the gap and created straight up 'power' tools with the Octane line. Completely unmatched in EVERY WAY by Milwaukee, which only has a longer lifespan(than average, not ridgid) by processing and functioning at a much slower rate. And unmatched by Dewalt as well, which derives power from heavy amp batteries having better quality output than the tool it's put into. Hints the ridiculous overheating as soon as you start one, and a battery amp hour that dies at an eighth of that time.

So, Milwaukee makes everything under the sun and already has the "high quality" label.

I'm switching to Kobalt; the only other brand I've found(though months of testing for work) that out performs both "Top quality brands". So just wondering if you actually came to that conclusion from experience or because it's what you're told.
For instance, the last 2 days I've been installing a fence at home. I put a large auger attachment in my Ridgid Octane drill driver and dug 22 two ft holes, through solid clay, and mixed all the cement, using only 1 and 1/4th 3ah batteries, and never once did my drill get hot. Ever. There's not a tool in the world by any brand that could match it. Especially not those top two brands, in either spec.

I would rather a 1/4" impact driver shut off if you attempt 200 lb-ft or more. That's hard on the tool, and hard on the bit. That is why 3/8" and larger impact wrenches exist, so wrong tool for the job. Having to use an adapter should have been a hint.

No it's not. Ridgid is very much a pro line tool. It's on par with Dewalt, I would say more reliable and longer lasting. I dropped dewalt after I had two drills literally burn up on the job. My Ridgid tools have never done that. And there are a LOT of tradesmen who will agree with me. Milwaukee and Makita beat it out, but not enough to justify the extra cost for a lot of trades.
Test a real one not these Mickey Mouse brands.
We do that quite a lot. We also like to include entry-level tools as well. Interestingly enough, both of these impact drivers just performed better than any other impact driver has done, so far. Just sayin'. Thanks for watching.
